HI I JUST GOT MY MACBOOK AND EVERYTHING'S PERFECT BUT YOUTUBE...IS VERY SLOW...EVEN MY INTERNET SPEED IS VERY FAST.

I've noticed that too today, and I have a 15M down/1M up cable connection. They may be having server issues.

I know why Pages sometimes very slow!!!!

Hi, I faced the problem with Pages become extremely slow. Sometimes Activity Monitor showed that Pages used 58-70% of CPU (I run PowerBook with 2 Gigs of RAM)
After readying all related threads and trying everything, the problem still remained.
Then I tried something else - I changed all graphic settings from "Fixed on page" to "Moves with text." Bingo! No Pages flies consuming only 10% of CPU.
My document was only 20 pages long and had a couple dozens of graphic items (some of them were groupped), still they consumed a lot of computational power.
So, if your Pages document becomes slow and you suffer as I did - check how you postition graphics on the page and try what I have done.

I've tried all of the above to no effect. When I take one of the templates that Apple offers I can type at a normal speed. However, when I create an original document, text goes in sooo slowly as to make the program unusable. I have a simple two page three column brochure with about 400 wds in it and three simple jpeg files. I quite using Pages 1 for this very reason and Pages 2 hasn't seemed to have corrected the speed issue. Frankly Appleworks works better. I'm running a G4 1GHz Aluminium Powerbook and while it's over two years old it should have plenty of horsepower to handle this simple program. I've gleaned the lists here and other than anecdotal 'fixes' that work sometimes and sometimes don't I've yet to find a reason or a solution for this issue. Pages 2 will be put back on the shelf. No Office killer this...yet. On the other hand Keynote makes the buy worth while. I'm just disappointed that the world's best programmers have dropped the ball here. Frankly, I shouldn't have to implement 'work arounds' for a program this simple.

having problems with the video streaming from You Tube if I use WifI but 3G is fine though tested the speed WiFi is faster than 3G provided by my carrier.
* Play YOUTUBE with WiFi, it will load slowly to its first 3-6seconds and then stop, wait for long time and press play again and it will move bit to another 1 sc or 2 sc and I have to keep press, hold and wait for the buffering but turn out nothing. BUt play with 3G then it is normal though have the video quality/resolution might not as good as Wifi
* quiktime video play smoothly, safari speed good, apps store download good, testspeed in iphone normal.
* use PC to access WiFi and play videos on YouTube is Normal.
* change the router setting as per many people here advice from 802.11g TO 802.11b OR Channel ID: Channel 9 (2452 Mhz)
Beacon Interval: 50
RTS/CTS Threshold: 2305 (Also try 1500, 2305 works better for me though)
Fragmentation Threshold: 2304 (Also try 1024, 2304 works better for me though)
DTIM: 1
Protocol: 802.11 b
It WORKS for AWHILE after few hours then back to the same problem again!!! SO FRUSTRATED!!! APPLE PLEASE HELP TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM!!!!

Apple is not here-just us users like you.
If the problem is wifi, troubleshooting should focus on your wifi network.

Why YouTube isn't working

Does anyone know why youtube on all my phones keeps telling me "There was a problem with the network response"? It won't let me uninstall and reinstall.

No YouTube is no fun! I hope this issue has been resolved by now. If not, do you see a 3G or a 4G connection on the notification bar? How many bars of service? Do you encounter same issue when connected to WiFi? What's your phone model or models? Power off and on to reset connection and test. Keep us posted.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
You might also reset all Settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings

If possible, connect to your router with Ethernet and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

No cordless phone (two iPhones and two iPads though). It does have one or two walls on line of sight. A few wireless door security zones. And a large china cabinet that my wife sure wouldn't let me move. Do any of these sound significant enough to drop the dowload from 30Gb to .1GB...while upload stays consistent. I have had better signal strength through two walls 100 feet out from my house, havent tried recently though. I am suddenly aware as my switch is acting up and i had to use wifi on my xbox.

Hard to say. The speed of your Internet connection. Congestion on YouTube's servers, problems at any point in between you and them... When you are connected to WiFi, you will get a substantially higher resolution version of some videos than you do on 3G.
Are you using the youtube app or are you just accessing it via a web browser.

There can be several reasons:
You have a slow Internet connection
You Tube is experiencing connection slowness
Anywhere in the route between you and You Tube is experiencing slowness
I'd start troubleshooting with the Internet connection. What upload speed are you paying for? What upload speed are you getting?

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

In my Macbook Pro finder folder under All Images, there are duplicate files, but one is small and the other is full size. I wanted to clean up the files, but don't know why I have two of everything. Any Ideas?

Nearly all images are JPG with a few GIF and PNG sprinkled in.
I opened the inspector so I do get info when opening each image, but it a slow process.
It seems that one image is around 70k while its twin can be up to 4Mb which is what comes unedited from my camera. Sometimes there will be 3 or 4 identical images in finder, but when I open iPhoto to see what ‘s really in the file, I find only one image, and it’s full sized.
Are all these extra images, even if they are aliases, taking up space on my drive? And should I delete them? The info bar says I have over 10,000 images, which is rather a lot for what I do.
I am unable to add the file size on the view menu as it is grayed out. Don’t know why it’s gray, but having that info on the screen would save a lot of time and fiddling with each image.
I am trying to resize selected pix so I can upload them to e-bay, which requires less than 70k. I have looked at resizing programs but most are for PC platform and not Mac, so I am trying to resize in the finder window under tools. Tedious at best. Any suggestions will be appreciated

The spinning beach ball - why has my MacBook slowed down SO much?

My MacBook has become terribly slow. I get the spinning beachball almost every time I hit a key now, and I am just about ready to throw everything out the window. Mainly I use my laptop for internet browsing (Safari only), iTunes and iPhoto. I do have third party stuff on my computer such as the software for my Nike Fuelband, and Jawbone Updater for my Jambox. I have Java too, which I probaby don't need. Oh I also have some card games - but those sorts of things I get from the App Store. I don't muck around with settings or anything, because I don't know anything about that! I just USE my laptop. So having said that, I don't know why I would have the spinning beachball as my new sidekick....
I have followed instructions I found on another discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5303293?start=0&tstart=0) to test my MacBook. My results are good news I think: Logging in as a guest account, everything runs like I would hope - iTunes opens up quickly, same with iPhoto, and when I look up sites on Safari they load up quickly. I then started in safe mode, and logged in as myself. Excusing the "stuttering" of the graphics and such, I would say that in safe mode things moved along much more quickly. I got the beachball in safe mode but not every time I tried opening something, and only briefly when it did appear.
My question is, where do I go from here? How do I "clean up" or fix my MacBook so that it runs like it used to? Like I say, I think it must be good news that in those test scenarios my MacBook performs much more like the good old days. Does this suggest that my own account just has crap on it that needs to go? And if so, the big question is, how on earth would I go about identifying the source(s) of the problem and then getting rid of them?
I have searched some on the forums here but I'm at a bit of a loss because I don't really even know what to search for! As I say, I am a complete user only! I do follow instructions pretty well though, so if anyone could point me to the right help page or give me further advice, I would be oh-so-grateful!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as certain other aspects of the configuration that may have a bearing on the problem. Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode, if possible. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing. If you can only boot in safe mode, you can still use this procedure, but not all of it will work. Be sure to mention that in your reply, if you haven't already done so.
Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. The commands are safe and do nothing but produce human-readable text output, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. I am not asking you to trust me. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
The commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
You can then quit Terminal.
To prevent confusion, I'll repeat: When you type your password in the Terminal window, you won't see what you're typing.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, set one before taking Step 2. If that’s not possible, skip the step.
Important: If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output of these commands, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
Remember, Steps 1 and 2 are all copy-and-paste — no typing is involved, apart from your password. Also remember to post the output.
