Unchecking/deselecting is what I have been doing. Separating configurations using the "playlists" seems to be the only/best way to accomplish what I need ~ different library files for different iPods being used.

Have you noticed that iMessage now takes up a lot of space in iOS7?

I just updated to iOS7. One of the things I noticed when I look at my usage of the memory is that it says Messages is taking up 4GB of space. Is that true? I don't recall every seeing that in iOS6. Are you seeing something similar?
If it's true, how would I be able to clean out that space?

Regularly update and sync your iPhone with iTunes. Syncing will permanently remove any cached files or other items that have been deleted from the device. When you sync your device to your iTunes, it will overwrite those old files with fresh ones.
If the 503MB you see is in the iCloud section then backup your phone (Settings > iCloud > Backup & Storage > Backup Now) and check again when it finishes. The 503MB may have been from a backup before you deleted them.

Update: An Apple rep called me today to update the status of my return. I was told that the replacements for the BLACK iPad 2's was still another 3 weeks out (at least) so they offered me a brand new WHITE 16GB iPad 2. I could have that or continue waiting. I have verified the sharing folder and also the remote access but it not let me turn it off.

I have been using I Tunes Playlists for some time.
Recently, I was creating some new playlists, and seem to have goofed up somewhere.When I open an existing playlist,and when I try to play each of the songs in the playlist,the same song plays,even though I scroll down to the next song.I also notice that,there is a ! sign next to the serial nos of each song.How can I remove this sign ?I suspect that this is the problem.

The exlamation mark happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

Do you use Outlook or Entourage? If so, that's where all of your emails are stored. If you don't use either of those applications I'd go digging through the folders and see where all the space is tied up. Check the Identifies folders, that's probably where everything is located.

iCloud doesn't store movies that were not purchased from the iTunes store unless they are special digital copies that came with a purchased DVD and are designed to be compatible with iTunes in the Cloud (not all are). Other movies have to be synced to your phone using iTunes.
