Hi everyone. How do you get the 'var' folder out of your trashcan? HELPPPPP

my friend jess put her var folder in the trashcan so she could make room on her laptop but her apps started to stop working and then her computer turned to the screen with the wheel on it and now shes freaking out help!
(also she wants to know if all her tv shows are going to be deleted)

How well do you know your way around Mac OS?
you are going to need to boot into Recovery and reinstall the system.
they should already be using TimeMachine at a minimum for backups
If you need to erase the system drive AND don't have backups, then yes you could lose files.
Also might want to shop for some drives to help with this /
Install OS X to another external drive rather than on the laptop's so you can boot and work at backups and reinstall and repairs.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because
the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

You should back up any important files that are on the device to a different drive.

tripple click the home button and then turn voice over off... you can also access this from setting>general>accessibility right under vision

How do you get the Event folder date to match the media dates in FCPX

Modifying the clip date/time with the Modify command works fine ... but the Event itself still has the date the event was created, not the date of the media that it contains.
If tried using Touch on the Event folder but FCPX ignores it.
Any ideas on how to get the Event folder date to match the media dates (or set to any other date desired) so that Events sorted by date show the actual dates of the media that they contain?

Now this kinda works?? but it still looks not as good on an asian person.

How do you get the root folder to recognize updated file in nested folder?

I believe in OS 9, a modified file nested in a folder would trigger the root folder to recognize and update to the top of the "date modified" column. As long as I've used the Mac (20 years) I've used the "date modified" to force my current client folders to the top of the column. Lately, I have many nested folders in the root client folder. When I make changes to a file in a nested folder, OS X doesn't make the root folder recognize changes within a nested folder. I realize there is not likely to be a fix for this in OS X, as Apple probably deems this behavior to be proper (I do not,) so my question would be expanded to include suggestions for third party software that may accomplish this.

Sorry, posted that last post and ran out of time while editing it. It should read like this:
"Yes, if you ADD a new item or folder to a folder, it updates the root folder, but if you simply MODIFY a file (like Photoshop) within a subfolder, the root folder WILL NOT update the date modified. Check it out."
Actually, whether the directory that a file is re-saved in will be modified or not can depend on the application in question and how it saves files.
Let's say a folder has a single file in it. The modification date of the folder will be the last time a change was made to the directory, either by adding or removing an item from it. (This can include the invisible .DS_Store file in which the Finder saves view settings for a folder, which can often be written without you're realizing it unless you have the Finder show all files like I do).
Then, let's say you open that file, which is a stream of bytes, in an application. You make some changes which alters the representation of the stream of bytes in RAM. The application then saves the changes to the file by filling it with the stream bytes as they now are in RAM. Modifying the contents of a file in this manner does not alter the directory that it's in. The modified date of the folder should remain unchanged.
Some applications use a different method than above to save files, however. Let's say that theoretically while the application is re-writing to the original file during a save, the power goes out and your computer shuts down. There's a good chance that the document that was being saved is now corrupt. A safer method that some applications use, is to first write out the information to a new file in the same directory as the original file, then delete the original file, and then rename the new file so that it has the same attributes as the old file. This method will, of course, modify the directory that the original file was in by adding and removing a file.

How do you get the iTunes visualizer OUT of fullscreen mode?

I'm using WhiteCap as a Plugin visualizer.
I pressed CTRL+F once upon a time to put the visualizer full screen, now I'm finding it impossible to put it back.
Whilst in the visualizer if I right click or press CTRL+F again, it closes the visualizer, and when reopened it's still full screen.
I need it not-fullscreen to change the settings in WhiteCap.
So how do I fix this?
I don't want to Re-Install iTunes because I spend ALOT of time sorting my iTunes library.

1. Make sure Safari is updated completely. You can check by clicking SAFARI> ABOUT SAFARI
Safari 5.0.5 gave me this problem but the new update is 5.1.2
2.Glims - Free ad on for Safari which enables you to view you window in COMPLETE full screen at all times, as well as maximise your window to fill all empty space (makes so you dont have to worry about accidentally clicking on your desktop which I do all the time lol). You can use this option once Glims is installed simply by clicking on
SAFARI> Full Screen
or
SAFARI> Maximise Window Size
By doing Full Screen mode you can then click on the full screen capability on the website you are on

How do you get the Menu Bar out of Fullscreen mode with Safari?

When I click on Full Screen mode to watch video the Menu Bar remains at the top of the screen. This just recently happened and its only with Safari because Firefox's Full Screen mode works as it should. I have read many forums with questions similar to mine but none have helped. Please keep in mind when you answer this question that it is NOT JUST WITH YOUTUBE. This is happening with every website that I use to watch videos. If you have an Iphone that is already registered but you have a new computer how do you get the new computer to recognize your device

I need help I just got this computer today and I have been trying to hook up my phone to it. My phone has been hooked up to other computers but this one won't recognize my phone is there a way to fix that without resetting my phone because I don't have it backed up anywhere. I am able to see any photo I took on the iPad using the iPad camera (in iTunes, photo stream, or when I open windows explorer and browse the iPad director), however I cannot see any photos transfered from my camera to the iPad. The camera connection kit must have put my photos in a directory I cannot get to and cannot sync.

We need the Request Restart ability when scheduling a single reoccurring job in Redwood. Most of our jobs are scheduled in CHAINs which offers the Final Status Handler on Step level, and the schedule is "paused" when a job in the CHAIN has failed ( the next instance does not populate until the OP MSG has been Replied to) , and once the OPERATOR message is replied to, the CHAIN can resume running again ( desired ) . But we need this same ability when scheduling a single job not in a CHAIN. In our testing, we set up a job with Request Restart chosen on the Error , Killed and Unknown selections on the Restart Behavior Tab. But we found when a job is scheduled say once a day at 8AM, and when it fails, an OPERATOR msg appears allowing a Restart choice ( desired), but the next day's schedule also populates ( undesired) and we do NOT want the schedule to continue on yet because we need a chance to fix the error before the next insance runs for business reasons. So how can you get the schedule of a single reoccurring job with Restart ability in Redwood to pause when it has failed...?

You can wrap the job chain in a master job chain in the first step and set the final status handler there.
You can also set the Restart Behavior to 'Stop Submit Frame', in that case you will have to resubmit the job once you are finished troubleshooting.
