Hi everyone.   Weird Zoom in Safari

Hi everyone.
Something weird is going on with Safari where suddenly and unexpectedly, it will ZOOM in.
At first I thought it was the new scrolling, three finger swiping, etc that Lion has but I cannot get my Magic Mouse to zoom in or out at any time, without holding the command key, just as before with Snow Leopard.
Also, when it has super zoomed, the Command Key + Magic Mouse function will not zoom it out again.
So either Safari 5.1 or Lion has a bug, or I'm doing it with my Magic Mouse but I don't know what I'm doing!
Anyone shed some light or anyone suffering the same problem?  It makes filling out forms on most sites impossible.  I am using Mozilla for most browsing now.''

It sounds like the new Lion feature of "smart zoom"  only a few programs support it but Safari is one of them.
A double tab with one finger will zoom and another double tap will unzoom.

Captfred

  • Zoom in Safari is terrible in Lion. SL was better. Can it be fixed?

The two finger zoom in safari actually zooms (makes pixels bigger) instead of before when it would increase font size. The old way was much better on my 27" iMac. I have trouble seeing small font, so making everything bigger helped. With this new method, it tends to make certain things blurry or pixelated. For one of the online games I play (not flash, but something else), when I make it bigger in lion now, i can't click on buttons in the game (i have to click to the far left or right of the button to get it to work). Can I revert this back to the SL way of zoom?

Hey fredryan..did you end up getting the rMBP?  I too am a little concerned about the screen performance while I wait for mine to ship.  If you have gotten yours do you mind commenting on how Mountain Lion affected it?  Is the lag still a big issue?  Thanks!

  • Is it possible to adjust the sensitivity of multi touch zoom in Safari 4?

    Hey, everyone.
I got my Macbook a few weeks ago, and it's my first exposure to OSX. I really enjoy it, and the mouse gestures have really been an incredible user experience (especially the two finger scroll- how absurdly convenient). I also occasionally used the zoom-in|out feature with multi touch, but something's changed. Before, a pinch would bring me one up or down one 'level' in Safari. Now, however (and I don't think I've changed much... upgraded to Safari 4, which come to think of it might have something to do with it) it skips over pretty much 6-7 'levels' of zoom from a pinch. It still works fine in Preview, it's a Safari only problem.
Is this a known problem with Safari 4?

I have noticed that problem with this Safari 4 beta, also, hypersensitive touch pad zooming. So it must be a software issue that is out of our hands. Hope the development team gets this fixed soon.

  • Magic Trackpad...Jerky Zoom in Safari 5.0.1

I was hoping that the two finger zoom would work well in Safari 5. Unfortunately it zooms in a jerky step fashion.....Unlike Photoshop CS4 where it is silky smooth. So why can't Apple implement a smooth two finger zoom in two of it's otherwise really well matched products?

    HI John,
Even though you are experiencing the "jerky step fashion" in Safari, try posting in the Snow Leopard forum also.

  • Two major bugs in Lion - Zoom and Safari auto fill search bar

    hey there
every since I updated to Lion I've been experiencing two major bugs... zoom randomly stops working (the one where you press control and zoom in and out) even though it's set to work on the settings. Safari is also experincing a problem concerning the search bar. mine is set to google and whilst on full screen mode, it randomly stops auto filling as opposed to what happens in non full screen mode. I actually need to get off full scren mode and go back to it to make it work again. as to the zoom thing, I need to restart my computer everytime is stops working. any ideas ?  thanx !!

You don't need to restart. Quit Safari or logout and back in.

  • Weird issue with safari on iPad mini?

I just had a weird issue with my safari web page, it stopped responding to my scrolling. I then tried coming out of it and going bad in again a couple of times, which still did not work. It then started jiggling around all over the place (jiggling is the only word I can use to describe it), it was as if you had clicked and held the page with a mouse and then started moving the page all over the place, or even like an earthquake on the page. The tab then closed. Can anyone explain this? Thanks.

Quit Safari then reset your iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Smart Zoom in Safari 7/Mavericks?

After the upgrade to Mavericks Smart Zoom seems not to work in Safari.  Is there a way to re-enable the convenient zooming in of a web page by double tapping my magic mouse?

I mean to say: after you enabe Smart zoom, you have to restart your Mac for the changes to take effect.
I apologize for accidentally leaving out that detail.

  • Change default zoom for Safari

I have a 11" MBA and find there are two much blank space on both sides.  Can someone advise me how to change the default zoom level.  Thanks!

I implemented the MacWorld suggestion.  I am running Mac OS X 10.7.5 (11G63) and Safari 6.0.1 (7536.26.14).  I found that the 'global' zoom changes were problematic — meaning that on some web sites the new override zoom setting was correct but on others the override zoom changes were not.  I do not have time to research the web pages in question to see if there was a common denominator for this inconsistency.
Moreover, when I tried to change my zoom setting a second time, Safari 'flashed' the new setting momentarily and then immediately displayed the first setting as noted above.  Deleting the CSS file reference within Safari preferences had no effect on how Safari displayed each web page - nor did moving/deleting the CSS file itself.  I also tried the following with no effect this behavior:
    Stop/start of Safari
    Reseting Safari
    Rebooting my MBP
Resetting OS X file permissions from 644 username staff to 777 root wheel
My 'fix' was to move/delete the $HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist file so that this file was recreated by Safari the next time I started this app.  I surmised that somehow OS X was retaining the first CSS file override zoom setting but not updating it with subsequent changes (or deletions).  Be forewarned that by regenerating this plist some Safari customizations (toolbar, etc.) will be lost.
I hope this information will help others moving forward...

  • Weird / Incorrect Icons - Safari, Lion, MacBook Pro Retina Display

Something weird seems to be happening. Certain icons, menu items and what not in Safari, System Preferences and so on do not show up properly on my new MBP Retina Display. Take the Safar bookmarks bar below, for instance:
What's with the little boxes next to the bookmark folders? And the bookmarks button itself doesn't show up properly.
    This is not all.
The back / forward buttons on system preferences windows don't show up properly:
This is the "accounts" option within MS Office for Mac. Look at where the "+," "-," and other buttons should be. Doesn't show up properly or doesn't show up at all.
And here is the window that allows me to add photos to this post. Again, screwed up:
It doesn't matter whether I'm using my Thunderbolt Display or the display on the MBP Retina. Same issue.
Anyone know why this is happening? It's incredibly bothersome / annoying. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • Weird thing in Safari

Not sure why, Safari just started doing this weird thing.
After I click on an item in eBay, or click any page on any site, when I 'swipe' back using my Apple Magic Mouse, the page jams a few pixels back and it freezes, mouse won't click on anything in Safari after that. I have to quit and start again.
I trashed system pref plist for Safari, made no difference.
I repaired permissions (three times) and get the following, anyone know what this means or why Safari has started doing this or how to fix it?
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”Permissions differ on “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .Repaired “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”
    Thanks

    1. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Test.
    2. There are reports that this problem can be solved by simply restarting, or by resetting the PRAM.
Repairing permissions is a waste of time.

  • Smart Zoom in Safari with YouTube

    Hello.
I like the Smart Zoom feature that OS X and Safari has. It allows me to easily doubletap my mouse and Zoom in to whatever I want. I used to do it all the time when I watched YouTube clips, just doubletap and the clip is almost (but not) in full screen. Nice and practical.
However, that is now impossible. Whenever I smart zoom onto a clip, the "black box" that has the actual clip in it and also the controls gets zoomed, but the clip itself does not follow suit.
See the attached screenshot to see what I mean.
I have tried this on a completely new and fresh install of Yosemite.
Why is this happening and how can I fix it? Is this a known issue?
    My setup is:
27 inch iMac, Yosemite, Safari 8.02

I mean to say: after you enabe Smart zoom, you have to restart your Mac for the changes to take effect.
I apologize for accidentally leaving out that detail.

  • When I pinch-to-zoom in Safari, sometimes buttons become improperly displayed

    Hey out there,
I have noticed an issue with Safari's Pinch-To-Zoom feature. When I zoom in on a website containing specific types of buttons, the buttons appear to become full of question marks or something, instead of the button. As far as I can tell, the types of buttons that do this are ones like "Login" buttons, and others.
Since I don't know how exaclty to word the description of the buttons, here are examples of them:
    http://www.wikipedia.org/ (the home page)
When I go here, and zoom in, the buttons by the search input are distorted.
This is not specific to wikipedia, because it happens with other buttons like with the kind of glossy look in safari, that become looking like:
    when I zoom in.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
If so, is there any way to fix it?

    Back up all data.
Boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the Recovery desktop appears, reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • Cannot zoom in Safari using the trackpad

    Hi,
I have got a MacBook Pro 13" 2011 with OSX Lion, and I've got a problem using my trackpad in safari : I can zoom once or twice, and after it doesn't zoom anymore. I can do all others multi-touch gestures...
    Thanks

And at the times when it's working, it's very unstable in Safari and will quite often make the web page view "freeze" in a "half-magnified", "blurry" state. If that happens, scrolling the page or clicking links doesn't work. A double-click to zoom often "wakes" the page up again.
I haven't had this problem for a while, but it occurred once yesterday (fixed with double-click-to-zoom twice) and today in my first attempt of using Safari after upgrading to 10.7.2!! (And despite the fact that I've disabled pinch-to-zoom in the preference pane) And this last time I couldn't fix it with a double click, I had to close and reopen the tab with the "frozen page" in it.

  • Zooming in Safari and bigger fonts

Their are times I want to make text larger in Safari than it'll seem to allow. A good example of this is when using the mobile version of Google Reader. That site doesn't zoom at all and as far as I'm aware their is no way to make the font size a bit bigger. I'd like to make it a bit bigger for easier reading.
Is their a way to either enlarge the font size (akin to command-+ on a web browser on my Mac like Safari or Firefox) or to force a site to zoom even when it is displaying at "the proper size" already?
    ** Ken **

No it won't. Not on all sites. You cannot zoom forever. Try the mobile Google Reader Mobivle version <http://www.google.com/reader/m/view/>. You can't do an expand (reverse) pinch and have it zoom. At least it does not for me.
