Hi folks -ipad2 and iCloud storage....

I've taken the plunge and have come over from the darkside and bought my first Mac device!
I have a 16gb iPad2 and I want to use it primarily for photo work. I use Nikon DSLR cameras and want to load pics onto the 'pad (via the camera connection SD card reader), retouch and upload to iCloud to store them indefinitely in full resolution. I would then delete them from the 'pad (with the originals still on the SD card, which is backed up elsewhere) Is this possible? I don't think I want to make use of photostream's rolling access as I do not have any other mac devices. I guess I'll have to buy more storage? That's no problem though.
Am I on the right track here? Be gentle as I'm a mac newbie!!
TLG

Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately, iCloud does not offer that sort of storage solution. You might try a third party solution such as dropbox or sugarsync. The iPad will do everything else through the new iPhoto app.

  • What happens to my apps, iTunes card, and iCloud storage if I change my Apple ID?

What happens to my apps, iTunes card, and iCloud storage if I change my Apple ID?

Depends upon what you mean by change.
If you update your existing account to have a new primary email address then you shouldn't lose any of the account's past purchases, balance, or iCloud storage - you may have to log out of the old version of your account by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in with the updated version, and similarly for iCloud (Settings > iCloud > Sign Out).
If you create a new account then your existing account's purchases, balance and iCloud storage will remain tied to the existing account, you can't transfer them to a new account or merge the new account with the old one.

I have the IPhone, IPad and MacBook, IPad and IPhone share the same Apple ID and Icloud storage. Cannot make ID Change on MacBook as it says the ID is already taken. How can I make all three match?

The problem is that all services are bundled with your Apple ID ([email protected]):
Your iCloud account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes, Backups, etc.),
also iTunes & App Store purchases (Music, Movies, TV Shows, etc.),
    and the iTunes Match services.
(I guess that all your devices - yours and your wife's are connected to one iTunes library, right?)
If you want that your wife gets her own iCloud account for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, etc. but gets also access to your media then you have two set up two things on her device:
iCloud (Settings > iCloud) with her account (e.g. [email protected])
    and
iTunes & App Stores (Settings > iTunes & App Stores) with your account (e.g. [email protected]).
In this case she gets access to your library and could use the same iTunes Match account.

  • Am in Europe (UK) with iPad. Comput er(Mac) at home. Bandought videos and iCloud storage, but still can not download all the videos. How can I get them to store in the cloud and come out a gain to my iPad? Need something to watch at night, etc. tx

Hi all. I. Bought videos from iTunes and also bought the lowest amount of extra iCloud storage. I assumed the videos could be stored in the  cloud and called back automatically to the iPad when I needed them. They won't all download, Apple hasn't answered my call for help via e mail, and I don't know what to do. I deleted stuff from the iPad and got rid of some of the videos I'm not watching (hoping to maybe download them again later on).
I don't get how the Cloud works, and I don't really know which article to read for info. HELP?
    thanks,
    Isabella

Not all video is available for redownload.
Purchasing more icloud storage has nothing to do with itunes purchases.
Itunes purchases ( the ones that are made available for redownload) are automatically available in icloud.  you do not have to purchase any icould storage for this.
You should not delete anything.  you should always have a backup copy.
Movies are only available for redownload in the U.S:

  • Aperture and iCloud storage

Any idea how I can up,oad images from an Aperture library to iCloud storage? So far I've managed to get some photos to transfer by selecting jPegs and then dragging to the iCloud window. But, apart from being incredibly slow, all I get is a few (up to 20 out of 97) photos transferred. They aren't in any particular order (i.e. not consecutive and not starting with the first image in the set) and it's different images each time I try.
    THanks
    B

    You're welcome!
It is not yet possible to store a photo library in iCloud. You can share photos (My Photo Steam or shared abums), but trying to put your aperture Library on iCloud Drive will damage it.
iCloud Drib´ve is very different from other cloud storage and that may be confusing. It is not an external storage, and it is not a backup medium.
    See:  iCloud Drive FAQ
It is meant as a central storage to keep all files updated across all devices. The recent problem with the iCloud servers may have contributed to your problem:   Apple - Support - System Status

  • Whats the difference in regular storage and icloud storage?

Trying to download i0s 7my iphone 4 says not enough storage, go to manage storage.  I upped my icloud storage thinking, this would do the trick and increase reg storage.  Puzzled.

What you call regular storage is storage that is in the device.  iCloud storage is on the network and not in the device.
In order to download iOS 7, you need sufficent storage in the device.
Storage on the network or iCloud storage will not work for that purpose.
You might try do the upgrade to iOS 7 by connecting you iPhone to your computer then doing the upgrade from iTunes. By doing that storage on your computer will be used instead of on your iPhone. This will reduce the amount of storage needed.

  • OSx 10.10.3 Photos app and iCloud storage

What does OSx 10.10.3 Photo app do if iCloud is enabled and photo library exceeds size if iCloud storage?

thank you for the fat response
actually on system preferences it says 52.8gb of photos and videos
    and on photos app 70.47gb
when i go to photos app in finder and go to "show package" and then get info for  the folder "Masters" it says   55.45gb
a bit weird but according to the thing you mentioned obviously the uploading process involved uploading specific  parts of my library and not the whole thing

  • Match and iCloud storage limit

My iCloud account for the first time has sent me a message saying that my storage has reached it's limit; also advising that my iPhone can not be backed up any longer.  Is my service with iTunes Match affected by this status, meaning that Match also cannot take on any more files from my iTunes?

    Hi Jimzgoldfinch:
I have two simple questions about iTunesMatch:  Can you check on how much it currently being stored in Match or do you just have to wait until they notified you that it's at the limit.  Also, whenever I get new music I put in my own label for genre - I also sometimes change the date to be to the original vinyl release instead of the "incorrect" CD date, though I never change the actual name of the song file.  Does changing this information make Match think of the file as a distinct file that they do not have and thus must be uploaded into my memory space or can Match determine a match even though I've changed some of the info on the file?

  • ICloud photo library and iCloud storage

How do I clear up my iCloud photo library because I uploaded all my photos to my Mac so they're safe and I deleted a lot from my phone because I had no use for them since they're  on my computer but I still have like no storage on my iCloud. So is it best that I turn off I loud library to clear and then after 30 days turn it back on ?

yeah, I don't think they are allowing you to do this. You can only optimize the locally stored photos, and if the phone fills up with those, it will then dump some from your phone but keep them in the cloud. Like you, I was hoping that once you store a photo in iCloud, you could remove the local copy of the photo. and worse, if you do start deleting photos from your phone, it sounds like they automatically get deleted off of the cloud, after 30 days that is. Doesn't make sense to me. Finally, on your mac, if you have more photos than you have iCloud photo storage, it just stops syncing, rather than just storing your most recent pics?!?

  • Macbook Pro and iCloud storage questions/help

Hi all, Im needing help here as my Macbook Pro has become extremely slow and sluggish, is this because there is too much stored on it? Having iCloud should help take extra room up on the Macbook should it not?
Just general help and advice regarding these matters would be appreciated.

iCloud is a syncing facility, not a separate storage one, and any data on iCloud is duplicated on your Mac. You would do better to buy an external hard disk and use it to store bulky data such as media files.

  • Calendar and iCloud storage

In Calendar, an exclamation point appears beside my iCloud calendars, showing the message 'there is insufficient storage space for account iCloud'. Yet if I go to Settings-iCloud the display tells me that I'm using 3.17 GB of my 5 GB allowance. I'd happily pay for more storage, if necessary, but can't believe that my iCloud calendars take up 1.83 GB.

  • Pages on ipad2 and icloud

I just purchased pages on my Ipad 2 and the application is not showing up on iCloud.  Do I have to purchase pages twice - Once on my Ipad and Once on iCloud?
    thanks.

That depends on which operating system you are using.
If you are using 10.7, yes you need to download it as a pages document, edit it in pages and then put it back in iCloud by dragging it into the iCloud.com/pages window (be careful you don't get confused between old and new documents)
If you are using 10.8, you don't need to use iCloud.com at all. Pages on your Mac will see the documents in iCloud and let you edit and save with down/up loading.
This is what you will see in 10.8 when you open an iWork application. I'm using keynote again so as to be consistent with my previous image- but the same goes for pages)

  • HT4847 Don't understand the purpose of icloud storage

    Hello,
Maybe I'm alone on this one, but even after reading Apple's articles on iCloud and iCloud storage, I don't understand the purpose of it.  I am only using 23.5 of a 25 Go storage (all of it is backup of all my apps and files (not sure the movies and music is covered even though the iPad general setting info implies this since I'm in Europe) and yet, if I delete the app files from the iPad, I also delete them from the cloud.  So for instance, I want to update to the latest iOS and it says I'm short 312 Mo and need to delete stuff from the iPad.
If I understand correctly, the only way to do this safely is to make sure a duplicate is on my PC via iTunes. So then what do I need the iCloud extra storage for (for which I am paying)?  Is this like a SkyDrive or Dropbox or not???
Please someone clear this up in simple, step-by-step type language.  I feel like I'm getting a round around when I read or take to Apple folks via email.  Thanks in advance!

Movies, music and apps are not part of your back ups, they are all available already on Apples servers as part of the iTunes Store. Backups consist of settings, photos and other data which cannot be obtained from elsewhere.
iCloud is not general online storage like Dropbox, in addition to back ups it keeps all your app data from apps such as contacts, calendars etc so it can be accessed by all your devices and keep them in sync. But in keeping with the mobile system structure the data is accessed through the app rather than a folder structure.

  • Reduce iCloud storage

I keep getting this message although when I check my storage it tells me I have the largest plan 50 GB.  But the email states:
When your complimentary iCloud storage upgrade expires in 6 days, your iCloud storage will be automatically adjusted to the free 5 GB plan.
You are currently using 5.26 GB of storage. iCloud Backup, Documents in the Cloud, and iCloud Mail will temporarily stop working on September 30, 2013, unless you reduce the amount of storage you are using or purchase a storage plan.
How do I make sure there is no interuption of service

After rereading the posts from all you good people on related storage issues, and experimenting on my part I have come to the following conclusions:
    1. The apps somehow take up more room on my iPad than is stated in iTunes, and even after deleting some of the larger and less used apps I only freed up 1 GB of space. There must be some sort of hidden memory usage by the iPad of information from apps. Since purchased Apps are free in iCloud storage, this must happen internally to the app and be out of Apple's ability to calculate in Manage Storage. I lose nothing in deleting apps since I backed up to my computer and they are still all available on the computer.
    2. Since my App usage is greater than my actual backup to iCloud, and I have no wish to delete further Apps, I need to purchase the minimum backup storage on iCloud that is needed to back up my iPad using the iCloud. I do want to use ICloud to back up the iPad, so this seems to be my only option.
    3. Since I am a photographer, and use my iPad to store my photos temporarily, linking Camera Roll and iPhoto to the iCloud just uses up huge amounts of iCloud back up space needlessly, since all those photos will be manually backed up to my hard drive later. I will try the Photo Stream and see if that helps make this easier, since the Photo Stream is free.
    4. I also freed up about 1.8 GB of storage by deleting a lot of old mail, but that thousands of emails for very little gain.
I hope this helps someone, and thank you for all the helpful discussion threads which helped me manage and understand iPad and iCloud storage.

  • When I delete iPhone images are they saved on my iMac? New Photos and iCloud not clear yet

Since the NEW Photos is out and my new subscription to iCloud storage increase I an not clear(or feel safe yet) what happens to my images when deleted from my iPhone5 to clear up space. It asks if I want photos removed from all my devices. Is my iMac a "device" and how can I save all my images, iCloud or not, to a hard drive? I feel like a newbie now because of new insecurities with Photos and iCloud storage/manipulation of photos... Sorry for the silly question but any clarity would help... ThankX

Yes your iMac is a device. If you are using iCloud Photo Library on both your iMac and in Photos on your iMac, if you delete a photo on either it will be deleted from both and from iCloud. If it is iCloud it is also on both devices. You save storage on your iPhone by setting it to optimize storage. See the quote below from iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support
Can I use iCloud Photo Library to save space on my device?
iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps all your photos and videos in the original, high-resolution version. Follow these steps to choose how you store your photos and videos on your device:
In iOS, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select a storage setting.
In OS X, click Photos > Preferences > iCloud, then select a storage setting.
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. All of your original, full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud while device-size versions are kept on your device. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them.
If you turn on Download Originals, iCloud Photo Library will keep your original, full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and on your device. Download Originals is the default setting for iOS devices with the free 5 GB storage plan and for all Mac devices.
