Hi guys, I have MBP mid 2012 (non-retina) with ML and now I have the USB problems.
As of now I cannot use one of the USB port (the port that close to the card reader). I have tried to use every thing to connect to this port but it's not showing anything. I have tried to connect my iPhone with this port, it just charge the phone but Mac didn't saw it. So is there any other person who have the same issue like me? I switch to use Windows via Bootcamp and trie to use this port and it's work perfectly. So is it about the Mountain Lion issues?
I should also mention I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on the 2012 MBP (where the headphones won't work)
and running 10.5.8 on the 2008 model where they DO work.

MBP 13" Mid-2012 (Non-Retina) - Display Washed Out
Just received my new MBP 13” Mid-2012 (Non-Retina). Comparing this to the 1280x800 display on my 2010 White MacBook, it looks washed out at full brightness, the colours are not deep and rich as they was on my old MacBook. Has anyone else experienced this? My next step is to use the calibration tool built into OS X to see if that helps.
If I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store and compare it with similar models on display. My late 2011 15" has a bright, vibrant screen and so should your new 13".
If you see that your display is simply not up to par, exchange your computer for another - you have 14 days from date of purchase to exchange or return for a full refund.
Good luck,

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I am interested to know which Mac mini has the power equivalence to a MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.9GHz 13" Mid-2012' non retina's Specs?
Macbook Pro Specs here:
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.9- 13-mid-2012-unibody-usb3-specs.html
My 2012 Macbook Pro was sadly stolen from my university's dorm room at UCLA. I am now looking again to buy another Apple Mac product. I specifically would like to buy a Mac Mini, since I believe it will fit my needs.
Any comments are greatly appreciated, thanks!Given they all run at closely similar clock times I would expect similar or relatively close performance from either the i7 MBPs and i7 upgraded Minis from the same production periods. They both have similar hardware and similar CPUs. The upper-end MBPs, however, may have better GPUs - something you should check. Minis all use integrated graphics. MBPs of 2012 and on are all Retina models except for one 2012 MBP model. All 13" models use integrated graphics only. The 15" models all have an additional discrete GPU.

I am trying to use a PNY 4GB SD Card on my Macbook Pro Mid-2012 (non-retina), but I cannot get it to mount or for the Macbook to even see it's there. I read some people had success slightly pulling it out, pushing it in faster, cleaning the port, etc. which I have tried all of these, but to no avail.
Anybody have an idea?
Thanks,
-Justin B.Had problems reading SD cards after a Mountain Lion update. Try this XQuartz solution that fixed this for me. I'm using a 13" MBP mid-2012. All you have to do is install this programme and re-insert your SD card.
XQuartz no longer comes with new Macbooks, only X11.
See this support page from Apple on where you can download XQuartz.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5293?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
You can download Xquartz directly from here:
http://xquartz.macosforge.org/landing/
This should be the most up to date version. If not check for updates once you have downloaded it.
Simply re-insert your SD card and voila! -
I have a mid 2012 non retina 15inch macbook pro, and a 27inch 2012 imac, and a 27inch thunderbolt dsplay and I want to use the imac and the thunderbolt display as dual monitors for my macbook pro and daisy chain them together. I have an extra thunderbolt cable, How would I go about doing this, every time I try to connect it via Target Display mode it only shows up on the imac and the thunderbolt diplay shows the imac screen but I cannot access anything on it. I would love some help, I am probably just missing something simple.
Yes there is on Mac computers that do not come from the factory with "Built In", Note the Words Built In, DVD drive.
On all Mac computers that come with Built In DVD drive Apple has Restricted the installation of Windows from ONLY That Built In drive and Only when it is Physically installed inside the system.
Many people have tried what you want to do and to my knowledge None have been successful.
It is something that is Hard Wired, Written, into the Firmware of these Mac computers.
Some have tried installing Windows on the standard HDD and then moving that HDD to the optical bay or leaving it in the main bay and installing a SSD into either the main drive bay or optical bay and have been greeted with the system not booting to either OS or not booting to Windows.
Something about how boot camp sets up the drive and possibly makes changes to the Firmware or EFI partition on the drive that Windows is installed to or to both that restrict it. You can't even make another Mac OS X partition on that drive without screwing up the Windows install.
To your last post the Answer is NO as stated above. -
Macbook Pro 15in mid 2012 Non-Retina Freeze
Macbook Pro 15in mid 2012 Non-Retina Freezes randomly. OSX 10.7.4. Do not have Google Chrome installed. I have to press the power button to restart. Any idea how to fix this?
When ever the computer restarts it looks like this:
http://i45.tinypic.com/2mrin7t.pngI would like to share my experience with the random freezing on my brand new Retina MacBook Pro.
This may apply to non-Retina and MacBook Airs, too.
My rMBP had randome freezes; seemingly starting from Safari, then spreading to the whole system, refusing to launch programs, etc., forcing me to restart every 1-2 hours. There was just no other way to come out of this coma other than forced rebooting.
Tried all the usual recommended remedies, but nothing worked. It's been about 2 weeks like this.
Then I remembered from my past experiences that with every new hardware there seemed to be issues with graphics card/driver. I did the following and so far I havent' had a crash for 24 hours and counting.
1. Turn OFF "automatic graphicss switching". You can do this in System Preference>Energy Saver. It's the top tick box. Untick for both AC Power and Battery Power.
2. Turn OFF "automatically adjust brightness". System Preference>Displays.
Can't tell if it's the combination of the two or one effecting the other, but seems to work!
I have a feeling it's the "automatically adjust brightness" could be the culprit.

As of 2015: Best SSD for 9,2 Macbook Pro (mid-2012 non Retina)
Hi All, this is my first post in the community, so I apologize ahead of time if it is evident in my query.
I currently purchased a Mid-2012 Macbook Pro Non Retina. Model ID: MacBookPro9,2.(i7, 2.9 GHz)
My question is: as of today (April 2015) what is the best SSD available (around 500GB in size) for my specific laptop? I've searched quite a few communities and just around Google and have found numerous options that people swear by and the same options that people swear against. What's been difficult is a lot of the posts were created much earlier on (which is expected for a MBP from 2012). I have read good (and bad) things about Samsung 840, 850 pro, 850 evo; as well as hearing good things about Crucial's M4, Mx100, Mx200. My preference is to spend approximately $200 for a 500GB unless there is clear evidence that I need to splurge on an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro because the Samsung/Crucial drives will just cause me trouble.
If anyone can lead me to the SSD's that Apple themselves use, I would be much appreciative. As of now, I'm not even sure which Controller they utilize (Marvell?) and if they support TRIM. Any information to shed some light on this would be great as a lot of my knowledge has purely been from the articles I've been reading in the past few days.
I know this question has been asked over and over again; but again, I am asking it to try and find the best SSD as of late.
Thanks ahead of time!"I thought the non Retina MBPs were still connected via a SATA connection. "
That is correct and that is why I was recommending that people buy that 2012 MBP non Retina that Apple was selling until just recently. Having the SATA connection while slower than PCIe allowed you more flexibility in purchasing upgraded drives.
"I currently purchased a Mid-2012 Macbook Pro Non Retina"
So you bought one of these? Be aware that if you modify the laptop in any way your warranty will be void unless the work is done by an Apple approved tech if Apple becomes aware of it.
That said you could put a 480 SSD from OWC:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Mercury_6G/
That can be had for $229 currently.
I'd be wary of installing a Samsung in there because of problems like this:
Samsung 850 EVO in Early '11 MBP
A lot of people are running that drive just fine but now and then....
I've installed 6 OWC SSDs in various Macs and have had 0 problems and 0 hassles formatting and installing them. -
Macbook pro mid 2012 non retina goes ramdomly into sleep mode
Hello people,
I bought a macbook pro non retina mid 2012 and everything was going fine until I installed Mountain Lion OS X. From this moment, my macbook is going into a random sleep mode. It is important to notice, that I cannot see any pattern, it can happens even when I am typing something and when it happens the screen goes black suddenly and it takes some seconds to return. When I was living in Germany last year, I called apple support two times. I installed the mountain lion update the first time as they recommended and the second time I reseted the SMC settings. They said to me that if it didn't work, I should reinstall the operational system before going to an apple store. Thing is that in the meantime I returned to my home country Brazil, where we still don't have a physical apple store and unfortunately the problem was not solved when I reinstalled the operational system. I don't know what to do next. I am afraid that since there is no apple store in Brazil, I just lost the chance to exchange it for a new one... Any suggestion that I didn't try would be welcome. So, nobody can give me a suggestion? I am disappointed. When I googled for this problem I saw some people facing a similar problem, but their solution they offered didn't help me.

My fans don't speed up until 95degrees celsius on MBP 15 2012 non-retina, why?
I recently upgraded my laptop from a mbp 15 2.2ghz late 2011 to mbp 15 2.3ghz mid 2012. After I installed iStat menu I noticed that my fans speed increase only after the processor gets 95 degrees celsius (until 95 stays at 2000rpm); when it gets to 100 fans are only at 3500rpm; on my old mac I didn't have this problem (ex: at 70degrees C fans where at 3500rpm...never went beyond 90degrees celsius). I don't think that any temperature over 85 degrees C is good for the processor, not to mention at 100 (my cpu model support max 105 until damage). What can I do? Is there a problem with my mac or is a common problem to this 2012 model? Thank you!
This doesn't sound right. Have you tried Resetting the System Management Controller ?
Failing that, I would take it in for service.

Macbook pro 15" mid 2012 non retina display flickering
My macbook pro 15" non retina mid 2012 (got it 15 days ago) is flickering on any website in Safari. Any reason why is like that? Adding screenshot of example (gmail and Facebook)
http://shrani.si/f/2q/kE/9ex36nw/screen-shot-2013-01-25-a.png
http://shrani.si/f/1A/nP/2wr0HIid/screen-shot-2013-01-25-a.pngAnyone? Someone told me, it could be also because java is disabled by default. Mine is enabled everywhere, where is possible. Also I made a short video about how my picture is shown on non retina macbook pro (17 days old now)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEFDPAr1RJ8 -
Basically what the post says. I go through the normal rounds of creating a bootable flash drive (i've tried ISO files from 7, 8, and 8.1 -- all 64 bit versions), downloading the drivers either off the website, or through the Boot Camp Assistant, then I finally partition my disk equally and go through the normal install process with the version of windows. Everytime windows installs correctly and starts up just fine, but as soon as I install the bootcamp drivers (or any drivers at all, say the graphic drivers from intel's website) all **** breaks loose. Near the end of the bootcamp driver install on windows 7 it blue screens and shuts the computer down. In windows 8 and 8.1 it installs without a hitch then when I go to restart it the machine boots into the windows partition, shows the windows 8 logo with the loading circle thing under it for several minutes then I get presented with the new Windows 8 blue screen of death with the (sorry there was a problem loading your system ) on it. Then it shuts down, restarts and does it all over again. Someitmes it will try and "repair" the system on windows 8 start up but that never does anything.
I've tried what seems to be everything with this situation and still I get the same results. Even reinstalled OS X. I've searched the internet for hours upon hours for an answer and I've gotten nowhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
here are my exact system specs if anyone needs to know anything more than what I've posted in the title: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD101/refurbished-macbook-pro-25ghz-dual-core- intel-i5
Thank you to anyone in advance.Well, at least my Windows won't boot after renaming them to *.sys.old.
But anyway, these two drivers aren't the cause, instead it's actually BootCamp.exe and/or the trackpad or keyboard drivers.
This guy had the exact same problem and the 'solution' was to disable BootCamp.exe.
https://discussions.apple.com/message/10301692#10301692
I finally managed to install all Boot Camp updates but still nothing has changed; as soon as I launch BootCamp.exe or change settings for the trackpad the system crashes.
It seems I have two options now: Use Windows without "Tap to click", "Secondary Tap" and modified keyboard settings, or find suitable trackpad/keyboard drivers.
Speaking of which, is there any chance to get Boot Camp drivers for Win 7? Maybe this would solve my problem since I only have Vista/x64 drivers which I used for Win 7.
Thanks! -
Upgrades on MacBook Pro 15 inch mid 2012 non Retina
Hello all,
I was wondering other than memory is there anything else i can upgrade on my Macbook Pro. Currently i have ordered the following since reading other post and suggestions.
1.5TB Toshiba Aquarius 5400RPM 12.5mm slim SATA Notebook Drive with 8MB
OWC DIY Kit: Data Doubler + 120GB OWC Mercury Electra 6G SSD Drive
Corsair Vengeance 16GB RAM DDR3 1600MHZ Laptop Memory
I really want size because i bootcamp Windows 8 64bit and play games like COD Black Ops 2, Dark Souls, and Arkum Asylum to name a few. If your wondering they run very smooth with COD Black Ops 2 i get 60 FPS easily the lowest i seen was 53 (I forgot to plug the charger in). Also i only plan to use the SSD for Mac OS. To get back to topic is there any other upgrades i can do?
Thanks for the upcoming feedback.Yes there is on Mac computers that do not come from the factory with "Built In", Note the Words Built In, DVD drive.
Macbook Pro Mid 2012 Non Retina. SSD/HARDRIVE
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 384 MB/
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
500gb sata disk
My question is that i was thinking about upgrading my my hadrive to an ssd, im not sure how to go about it, also my my memory to 16gb. any suggestions on what hardware i can use in my computer?Go to the OWC website. Any of these SATA drives will be compatible with your MBP. Other options can be found with other vendors, but this is a good place to start;;
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
Ciao.
16 GB RAM is the maximum that your MBP will accept.

My 13" MBP MD 101 / A1278 / 9,2 / Mid 2012 is still in production and it is performing like a windows pc; super slow after updating it to Yosemite.I can't afford to upgrade its HDD to SSD and 4GB RAM to 16GB.
Tried everything found on internet, nothing got successful in making it fast as it was once with mountain lion. I hope I could have Yosemite's features and leopard's responsiveness and stability.
I think Apple guys have designed Yosemite only for SSDs only. They should design OS X according to every mac's different hardware, like if I have a spinning old hard drive it should mould itself to the capabilities of it and not demand responsiveness of an SSD.
Please do let me know if anyone have brilliant new idea other than found on the internet.
Problem description:
My MBP acting like a windows pc; running really very slow after Yosemite update
