Hi I am a lecturer at a university in the UK.
I am preparing a proposal to the Vice Chancellor about incorporating Ipads into the learning process.
I am thinking it would be a tangible gift as part of their fees.
Does anyone have experience of Ipads in education, what are your view? I have seen Apples articles but want an un corportae viewpoint.
Does anyone know of any funding routes?
Do Apple have grants available or specific support for institutions?

Apple has no grants or funding I've ever heard of other than the standard discounts for purchasing multiple units. I'm sure you're probably far more aware of other funding resources available to UK institutions that I would be.
As to non-corporate opinions and resources, if you seach the web for "ipads in education" and "ipads in the classroom", you'll find a plethora of sites with information that should be of help. The "iPads in Education" ning is probably a good place to start:

Anyone here study with the Open University in the UK?
I'm about to re-embark on OU studies, and the course I'm going to do requires ... Windows ... Pentium ... etc. etc. I don't know, as yet, what software I'll need, but there's a good deal of 'interactive CD-ROM' material involved.
I am getting a new iMac as it happens so will have access to the Windows environment. Done some reading up on Boot Camp, Parallels and Fusion.
I'm interested in what any other Mac users might have to say about such matters, whether from having undertaken an OU course and remaining Mac-based, or maybe just general comments about the comparative merits of Boot Camp, Parallels and Fusion.

Hi. I need make a universe with the BO repository tables, in order to get user information .
But, when I try to insert tables in designer, using a new conecction to BO repository. I can't see tables.

The CMS repository is organized into both physical and virtual tables. Only the CMS can access the virtual tables, therefore you cannot create a universe on the CMS repository. You can access the CMS repository information through the Enterprise SDK.

When I'm trying to manage spaces in SAP Business Objects Explorer 4.1 SP04, I'm getting the following error:
Failed to retrieve the data source list.
There was an error while retrieving the universes from the CMS (Central Management Server). (PS 20003)
For input string: "false"
I've already restart Explorer servers (Explorer Exploration Server, Explorer Indexing Server, Explorer Master Server and Explorer Search Server) and rebooted the server where Explorer is installed.
Nothing seems to fix this error message. I'm not able to create new spaces because I cant access the sources:

Admin is on the Administrators Group, which as Full Control on the Explorer Application
I think this worked on the day the Explorer was installed (past week).
Since them never worked.

I have a macbook pro 2012 13 inch, which i use for uni and youtube etc. I use firefox for my web browsing, whenever I go to watch videos, from youtube or even uni lectures (for all my subjects) the video and audio play fine, but as soon as i switch into another tab, the audio continues to play whilst the video lags and stops all together, freezing on the current screen. The timestamp on the video players also stops, which gets incredibly frustrating when I am watching uni lectures, does anybody know how to fix this?? Please help.

Which os version are you using?
Which Firefox version?
Have you posted in the Firefox forums or contacted their tech support for assistance?
Have you made sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Flash Player?

How to change the universe at the Webi report

In BO 3.1 , I can select a new universe. useing the button to the right of the Universe field of Query Properties at the query panel .
But at the BO4.0 , I can not find the button at the same place . How can I change the report's universe to new one ??
Anybody can answear me ? Thanks !!!

When you go to the Query Panel in Design Mode:
Click on the tab 'Data Access'
Click on the tab 'Tools'
click on 'change data source'
If you have multiple Queries than you can select which query you want to change the datasource.

I got the same problem recently in BI 4.1 Platform and all the permissions were already set, I mean on the universe and all others which are required but I found there was some problem in Dashboard Cache server, when I restarted that it worked fine ...
I was able to see the universe once I restarted it. I was getting a Java unable to invoke object Error..

Can I universally change the title styles in my iMovie? They're all set in "Lower Third" and I need to change all of them to "Gradient White" and I don't want to retype everything in the new style! It'll take forever, as I have many titles in this movie.

Interesting. http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov9c5e9641f describes how to change a title. I tried selecting 2 titles then chaging the style but it didn't work for either. So it seems the answer is no (though it should be yes).

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod. If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. This requires action before the device is lost/stolen. If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

How to make a simple C program universal from the command line???

I've developed widgets that use a simple C program. I had no clue how to make it universal. Apple documentation is all about big projects to be developed inside Xcode and so on, but I don't understand even the introductory remarks...
As far as I've read, I have to make a binary for PPC and a binary for i386, and then merge it with lipo. Fine. I get my PPC binary from:
gcc-4.0 prog.c -o prog_ppc -lm -arch ppc -arch ppc64
Now, it seems that I have to use:
gcc-4.0 prog.c -o prog_i386 -lm -arch i386
The latter command didn't work until I added -L/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/usr/lib/ at the end. With this, it creates a binary file, but with the following message:
/usr/bin/ld: warning fat file: /usr/lib/system/libmathCommon.A.dylib does not contain an architecture that matches the specified -arch flag: i386 (file ignored)
and I guess this is quite an issue if I don't have the common math functions, no?...
Can somebody help me? I googled a lot on this, and found nothing helpful.

If you've bought a film from iTunes then you can only copy it to a DVD or CD for backup purposes, you won't be able to watch it on a stand-alone DVD player.

detail spec of BOE setup is :-
1. I have access to SAP GUI through citrix.
2. Business objects xi 3.1 is installed on single server.
3. I am using full client.
4. Universe designer is on client machine.

Hey as u told that you will access the sap system through Ctirix. it means you have such a set up .
1. you are a client and you have a connectivity through BO server directly.
2. and as a client only you have access to sap bi system through citrix.
If yes then try it , i have doubt if you able to connect it .
b coz you need to have direct connectivity to sap bi system also.

Are apple wires universal around the world? Or do you require a converter?

I am traveling to Europe. Someone had told me that Apple products are universal around the world. Basically, insinuating that you do not require a converter. Is this accurate? My biggest fear is that I short the fuse in my apple products.

Warranty and support is only valid in the country of origin. The only exception being the EU where a device bought in any EU country can get warranty or service in any EU country.
Warranty is determined by device (serial number), no documentation required.
Apple does not repair devices, they replace them. For that reason, ensure the device is backed up and any pictures take with the device are copied off the device prior to going in for service.

Universe Connections - The Page Cannot be found

I'm new to BOE XI R2. Our parent company installed it now I have to troubleshoot it.
I log in as administrator and navigate to the Central Management Console. I then click on Universe Connections and I get a page which tells me "The page cannot be found". I'm not having any trouble with my other links to other items.
I did try to create a case but the information that comes up is for our old 6.5 version even though I registered the new products today.
Any suggestions?

Is this a java deployment?
the universes uses a different war file than most of the CMC (jsfadmin), it may need to be redeployed, open a case with the BO deployment team if you can't figure it out.
