Hi I am having problems with my old airport extreme base station.  It is a 802.11g with airport utility version 5.5.3.

On a regular basis connection is lost by al of the apple products connected to it even though signal strength is still showing to be good and its green light is still on. The only way to resolve seems to disconnect it from the power and then reconnect. All the apple products connected to it are more up to date than the bsae stationis this the problem?

I think it may have more to do with the older AirPort Base Station failing than it has to do with the fact that you have newer Apple products.
One option is to perform a "factory default" reset on the Extreme, and then, reconfigure as required for your networking needs. If after this type of reset, the Extreme still acts up as you described, it may be faulty or about to fail.

    So my question is for you Mac users that use Firefox, have you had major problems with the newer version? I'm real hesitant to download if I'm going to have the same problem PC users are having...like constantly crashing. Also would my old Tiger software be compatible? I don't want to upgrade to Leopard.

    Yes. I had problems with Firefox 3.5. The primary problem was very slow or never-ending loading of certain websites (particularly secure sites and sites with many features). I also have had similar, but not as bad, problems with Safari 4. I never had these problems with Safari 2 or Firefox 2. It just seems that with each update, the problems increased for me. I have read the Safari and Firefox forums and tried many fixes with little improvement. I have come to the conclusion that there is some kind of compatibility problem between the latest versions of Safari and Firefox and Shockwave Flash and/or Javascript and OS 10.4, particularly on PPC Macs. I expect there are many who will disagree and I cannot argue or prove the point. This is just my opinion. And I recognize that my problems could be caused by my setup and not by the browsers. By the way, I do not use any add-ons with any of my browsers. Anyway, I got tired of dealing with it and installed the latest version of Camino about 2 weeks ago. I also did a clean install of Firefox 3.0.13. Camino is working out great for me. It is simple and it works. No problems at all. So currently I am using Camino as my primary browser and Firefox 3.0.13 as my backup. I hope this helps.

  • Having problems with View All Versions in Pages '09 version 4.1

    When I click View All Versions in Pages it displays a pop-up that reads:
    There was a problem connecting to the server.
    URLs with the type "file:" are not supported.
    On the first try it always brings me out of the View All Versions menu, but if I try it again I can look at and edit the version – however, the pop-up remains displayed (and is hard to work around..).
    If anyone knows what's going on, please help me out! I've looked into it, and from what I've read it has something to do with TimeMachine but I don't use TimeMachine. I've tried my best to explain the problem, if more details would be helpful I can provide them.

    Delete Pages will delete the whole document if it has only one section.
    Did you start your document from a Word Processor template? If so, the blank page may be there because there is an invisible character such as a paragraph mark, space, tab...
    Menu > View > Show Invisibles. Click after the offending character(s) and press the delete key.
    Or did you start your document from a Page Layout template?

    Not sure if this is the appropreiate area to post this question but I did not know where else to post it. I tried repairing permissions on my emac and I keep getting an error message saying that disk utility lost conection with Tool Management. Has anyone else had this problem? Do you know what I can do to correct it?

    Try force quitting the app. Double tap the home button. You'll see hte app icons and previews lining up on the screen. You may need to scroll sideways to get the app in question on the screen. Flick the preview window up and off the screen to force close the app. Single tap the home button to exit the mode

    You can also try to reset your device. Hold down on the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. WHen you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
    If the app is still messing up, go and look on the app's page in iTunes. If others are having crashing issues, it'll usually be reflected in the reviews for the app. If the app is broken, then it's up to the developer to fix it.

    WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. If you still have your windows machine then iTunes for Windows can convert them from WMA to MP3 format : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24158701#24158701
    Or try a search for, for example, 'convert wma to mp3' to find programs to convert them.

  • Is anyone else having problems with the Canon Online Store?

    In the last month or so, I've had one problem after another with the Canon Online Store; from being unable to delete items from the shopping cart; to not being able to add "in stock" items; disappearing Wish Lists; and just now, I tried to add one lens cap to the 6 or 7 items I already had in the Shopping Cart, and they disappeared.
    I've called, more than once, and I've written, also more than once, to Canon Support about this, but they ignore what I tell them, and tell me there are no problems with the Online Store.  They don't even seem to report to anyone that anyone has complained, because each time is "the first time", even though I've called (more than once) and written (more than once) to them about continuing Online Stores problems.
    Is anyone else having problems with the Canon Online Store?
    Why does Canon not care to track reported problems with the storefront part of their web-site? 
    I'm not trying to insult Canon, it's just that I've been a Canon customer for less than 3 months, and the're only batting .333, so far.  Canon Support was very quick to respond about a concern I had that a 50mm f/1.4 I had just purchased was authentic or not.  In trying to register that lens, I looked up on the Canon web site where to find the serial number.  Since my new lens did not have any numbers there, I was concerned I had been sold a fake.  But, then Canon Support sent me link to a different online document that showed a few different places where it might be, and there it was. 
    Is Canon like that with other problems, as well?  Or is their "batting" average better than my very limited experience? 
    I just love my Rebel T5i, and my Canon lenses (from "the Kit brothers of the Cropped Frame coral":  EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, and EF-S 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM; to the "Truly Nifty Fifty", the 50mm f/1.4 USM, [the f/1.8 is just a "thrifty fifty"], and finally, the "Super-Macro" MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1x-5x Macro)!

    I only use my desktop PC to access Canon's web site, and I've been using Mozilla Firefox for years.  And, yes, it is the latest version.  Since Canon REFUSES to support the use of Firefox on it's web site, WHAT BROWSER DOES CANON SUPPORT?  WHEN did Canon STOP SUPPORTING Firefox?
    I've been told that there are 2 pending orders in my account.  Yet, I NEVER placed those orders!  WHY CAN'T CANON SEE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM??? 
    Instead of off-target suggestions, and pasted boilerplate REFUSALS TO EVEN LOOK at this issue, I would prefer it if Canon went "old school", and FIXED THE PROBLEM, in the first place!  But, maybe that's a bit too grown up of an answer for you! 
    "Award-winning" support???   And, just exactly WHAT AWARD did Canon "support" WIN for CONSISTANTLY IGNORING REPORTED PROBLEMS???  The OSTRICH?
    Please pull your head out, and FIX this problem, OR YOU ARE THE PROBLEM!!!

    Indesign CS6 on MACs with 10.8 are having problems with links. All links to other files have to be updated when opening a file although definitely nothing has changed to the linked files.
    We can rule out our company's networking and the system hosting the files (HELIOS software on RedHat Linux VM). This happens with newly created Indesign files and with old ones. E.g. we create a file on Tuesday, save it and open it again on the exact same MAC on Wednesday and all links to other fiels (.indd, .png, .bmp, etc. nothing uncommon) have to be updated as they all show the yellow triangle + black exclamation mark symbol next to them. Has anybody else experienced this, What can we do? We have tried absolutley everything and updated all software from MAC OS to CS6 itself but nothing seems to help on the long run.
    Any further information required?

    We actually noticed that there also seems to be something wrong with the timestamps:
    If we open the infos via the MAC finder to a file (.psd e.g.) which is linked in one of our indesign files, it states a certain date of creation.
    If we then switch to the Indesign file we just opened in which we had to update all links and open the infos to exactly the same file we looked at in the finder, a different date of creation is stated. So there also seems to be a mistake here (hope it's clear what I mean).
    We are ruling out our network as the error cannot be "re-enacted". We have created numerous test files in Indesign (simple white page containing one link to a .psd file which is also used in one of the supposedly defective files) and have opened them on various MACs with various OS versions over the past days/weeks but unfortunately the files open without any notifications or errors.
    Just as a background: a few months ago, the problem seemed to occur between MACs with differing OS, 10.6 - 10.8 at first. A file which was created on a 10.6 MAC could not be opened without updating all links on a 10.8 MAC. That is why we updated everything to 10.8. The error did not occur for about 2-3 weeks but then reoccured again.?
    Have you heard anything similar?

    For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices. 
    That all works.
    It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
    I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
