Why is it that i am unable to buy an ipod nano 16gb in germany? In the stores it is advertised however not available, the store only has the 8gb and I can't ship it here? Is it a case of not yet launched, patent infringement or apple just being annoying?

How is this possible? If I buy the Nano, will I not be able to have all my songs on the ipod? The music is my first and only prioarity. I want to be able to have up to at least 3,000 songs, even if that means not having video or pictures. Can someone please help me?

The estimated song capacities, such as 4000 songs in 16 GB, are based on 4 minute songs of 4 MB each, which is what you get at 128 encoding.
Most of us nowadays use well above 128. (For example, the iTunes Store and Amazon MP3 both sell songs only in 256.)
However, you can still make more songs fit! When you sync your iPod, use the option to "convert higher bit rate songs," as pictured. Choose 128. This fits more on the iPod, but does not change the songs in your library.

I saw that today the new lineup of iPod Nanos is out, but I really would like to buy the 6th generation (the square one) because of it's clip-on ability. I don't see any available in the Apple Store (online) anymore, and Target doesn't seem to carry them anymore, either, at least not online.
Any idea of retailers that are still carrying them? Historically are they discounted after a new model comes out, too?

I picked one up not too long ago on Amazon. This is about the only place I have found to get a recently priced one.

after reading this rather amusing site i have come to my own conclusion, im gettin one and ill look after it as i would any expensive piece of hardware and hopefully it will last

I work in the mobile phone trade and you should see the state some ppls phones that come back in they say they only had it a few weeks but it looks like it been throu a tumble drier filled with sand. put the phone in a case it lasts longer, same with anything ya gota treat it with care

Apple only sells the iPod nano (RED) Edition at Apple Retail Stores and the Apple Online Stores, not at any other shop. However, if you want, you can search one on a different site in the Internet, but you won't find it on a different shop than an Apple Retail Store

Cracked screens are very rare and replaceable.
Scratching is another issue. Will it get better? Probably, but "when" would be the question to ask.
I am in the spot were you are except I'm now 1 week into an order and have not cancelled the order. In fact have ordered martin Fields Overlay Plus to protect the little guy from what will probably be changed in future models. (Scratches)
So to answer your question ... I chose to get it now and spend $6 more for some protection. I have never own an ipod so I am probably more eager than most.
Toyota is well known for quickly reacting to consumer concerns ... I can only hope Apple will be too.

The Nano does have 3G or 4G capabilities nor does it have any Wi-Fi hardware and capability, so no need to worry about setting up a plan/service with AT&T.

Can't decide which ipod nano case to buy :S

I am actually planning to buy an ipod nano 2gb. I want to buy a nice protective leather case with it which will protect my ipod from scratches. But I am actually very confused which one to buy :S Can any one of you help me with the decision? yeah, thats what i mean. This is the one I bought, though is basically the same as the one you found. This one actually has a warranty on it, and I've heard its the best out there. It gives full body protection, too: front, back and sides. Unfortunately, I don't think you can take them off and put them back on, at least they wouldn't look good reused. They are basically a sticker that you apply to it, using a tiny bit of water to keep the air bubbles out.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
So long at you friend or relative has a Mac or PC that meets the minimum specs then everything you need is in the box. However there are a couple of accessories you should consider:
Case - although Apple include a slim case it's the most basic-of-basic types. Personally when I gave a Nano as a gift I went out and let my wife choose the case herself - there are thousands of designs each with a different style, colour or function. Nanos do scratch easily if they aren't in a case! The choice of case really depends on when the iPod is going to be used.
Mains adaptor. Sometimes it's just not convienient to get to your computer to charge rhe iPod. Also mains adaptors are essential when you go on holiday. We have the Gear4 World Tour V2 which is cheaper than Apple's model and offers a greater functionality.
The bottom line is that everything you need is included. There are literally thousands of accessories. I'd just let whoever is receiving your very generous gift choose which accessories they might need.

Sorry Moncorge. To buy from the Apple Store US, you need an American billing and shipping address. You can only buy the nano from the French Apple Store
I can why you would want to buy it. It works out much cheaper, and i wanted to get it from the US store aswell, but i had to get it from the UK store.

Can I sync my ipod nano in store when I buy it in 5th Avenue?

I'm going to New York in October and planning on buying my iPod Nano in 5th Avenue. I known that the staff will set up my iPod in store but is there a way in can sync it in store too? Will the staff be able to take me to a Mac and I will log on and I can sync then log off again? I don't won't to wait 7 days to get back to the UK as a 8hr flight will be much better with music!
