Hi, i cannot shut down my mac, and there is several times lagging, hanging, and auto restart. what should I do ?

Hold the power button till it shuts off (10 seconds or so)
Then try a SMC reset:

Follow directions for a battery you should not remove yourself.
You can also try a pram reset, which has a link at the bottom of the page of the first link above.

My computer is saying that I am not in the US and so I am unable to view shows, Youtube, etc. I've gone under the location settings and put US several times but nothing has worked. What should I do?

It may not be your computer telling you this, it is probably the company providing the shows to you over the Internet. If that is the case, no setting on your computer can change it because the media company is going by your network address (IP address), which is where your Internet modem (cable or DSL) connects to the outside Internet. If the location of your Internet connection appears to be outside the US (even if it is mistake), media companies that distribute shows under contracts with geographical restrictions may lock you out.
If you use a service like a VPN service, you may have the ability to use IP addresses from other countries so that you can appear to be connecting from there. But it takes some setting up.

This is not a reply. I just want to elaborate on this problem.
My computer freezes occasionally when it is used after being sleep for a while. The spinning ball appears and everything is totally disabled. Nothing on the keyboard works.
The mouse moves, but does not work.
The only solution is to turn the power off and on (losing all data in open applications.)
I kept the System monitor running on the side to find out which program was running when the computer froze. The Monitor as well as all other applications froze, but the data showed:
    Firefox 18.4%
    Activity Monitor 0.9%
    Firefox Plugin 0.2%
This is all the information I have. By the way, I am using iMac with OS 10.6.

Hi Beth, sounds like your Username got edited or changed.
Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory, (it can happen spontaneously too)...

That could be a hardware problem with the screen digitizer but first try these troubleshooting steps in this order:
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.
Restore: Connect your device to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory.
See here for more details on restore: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252
If none of these work your device may have developed a hardware problem. Contact Apple Support: http://www.apple.com/contact/

  • I cannot shut down my Mac Book Pro

Lately whenever, I try to shut down my MBP (properly from the menu) the shut down process starts, until nothing is left but the wallpaper and then... nothing. Long minutes go by and the shut down is not complete.
I make sure to shut down all applications individually before attempting shut down of the OS.
In the end, I just hold down the power button. But this is not a one-time occurrence. This happens repeatedly.
I should point out that I have recently also experienced situations in which the machine heats up to 80, 90, even 100 degrees. I am not sure why. It might have something to do with the fact that I try to browse my Time Capsule and... nothing. The Finder window tells me it is trying to connect and never does. Maybe this leads to the heating. I'm not sure.
Either way, what should I do to try and pinpoint the source of the problem?
    Thank you...

    John

    Hi John,
Not much you can even try, but...
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.
When you disconnect he power lead, where all peripherals disconnected also?

  • My iphone4 round button stops working sometimes. And i need to push it for several times to get a respond. What should I do?

Why the round button in iphone4 does not operate sometimeS?

Because something is wrong with your iphone.
Try the basics from the manual: restart, reset, restore.
If these fail, it is likely a hardware issue.  Make an appointment at the genius bar.

  • How do you Shut Down your Mac?

I just converted from Windows to Mac yesterday and today I'm trying to shut down my Mac, but there's no Start button! How can I get my Start Button back?

Why would you want a start button to stop something?
Seriously, I would not routinely shut down your Mac. It is not necessary. Just set it to sleep in System Preferences > Energy Saver.
When you are not using it, just walk away. Things will work better that way. Most of my Macs don't get shut down except while restarting them for software updates. This might be once every couple of months.

  • Plugging in my Shuffle shuts down my Mac

Plugging the shuffle into any mac in the house shuts down that mac.
There are no lights on the shuffle.
Resetting it from the control does nothing.
    Can anyone advise me here?

You do not provide what computer or which OSX you are using.
    Try a SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Follow directions for a battery you should not remove yourself.
If that does not help, bring it to an Apple Genius bar (make an appointment) you may have a bad battery, or connection, or charge circuit, etc...
The diagnosis is free and they will give you options.

My mail won't open but it won't close on my finder bar...won't let me shut down my Mac.

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu and shut it down from there. If that doesn't work, save and close everything you can, and then use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force quit the loginwindow process.

  • Frozen systemr won't move, cannot shut down, what can I do?

Cursor won't move, system not responsive to keyboard commands, cannot shut down the system.

I have been getting the gray screen and lock-up on my Air. I bought the machine in November. I took it in and got it replaced for a new one - now the new one is doing the same thing. The whole situation is obviously a bit annoying. Sure, I could go and have this one replaced as well, but to what end? Just to wind up having another Air that does the same thing. Eventually my warranty will expire and I will be stuck with a machine that freezes up on us. Not to mention the glitchy way it wakes up from sleeps then goes black for a few seconds before RE-waking up occasionally.

  • After charging my iphone5 for many hours I checked it and it 100% charged but not fully charged as the sign of charging on the top of the screen is still and the sign of unblug the charging cable doesn't show up and this happened several times ...!?

After charging my iphone5 for many hours I checked it and it 100% charged but not fully charged as the sign of charging on the top of the screen is still and the sign of unblug the charging cable doesn't show up and this happened several times ...!? What is the problem and how I fix it !? Thanks in advance :)

Apple told you it was unrepairable.... You had it serviced by an unauthorized party. It's now no longer eligible for out of warranty replacement by Apple.
There's really nothing else we can say about it. Find a competent 3rd party repair shop or buy a new one.

    Could this be a virus?

Hold down the Power button until the computer shuts down.

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using Dr.Web Light from the App Store. It's free, and since it's from the App Store, it won't destabilize the system. If you prefer one of the better known commercial products, then Thomas recommends using Sophos.(Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.) If you already use Sophos, then be aware of this if you are using Mavericks: OS X Mavericks- Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause unexpected restarts
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.
