Hi I have a HP Envy dv6 Laptop, and I'm wondering if I can upgrade the graphics card on here?

It has a decent graphics card but I was looking for something with slightly more kick.
Processor is: Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU@ 2.40GHz
RAM:12gb (11.9 usable)
system type: 64-bit
Graphics card I have now: Nvidia Geforce GT 650M 2gb.
Is it possible? If so you someone recommend it? Or is it not even worth the hassle?
Because it IS a laptop and idk if the graphic cards are specialized for them specifically. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Well, there is no "card" as that term is understood. It is a chip built right onto the circuitry of the motherboard and cannot be replaced or upgraded. The video you have is top of the line for recent HP consumer laptops so you cannot even get an improvement from a new motherboard. No upward headroom is available. You have to think in terms of a new gaming laptop if you want performance any better than a 2 gb GT650M.

    Hello,
Unfortunately Apple do not offer a download for mac OS X 10.5.8. They will only provide updates available for download. ( Normally you would do so once the OS is installed)
To do a fresh install of this software your going to need to buy a retail copy of the disk.
There are some vendors who do still stock the media disk, but they can be expensive.
    Best of luck.

You should be able to sync both to the same iTunes - I sync my iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch to the same computer. With the iPad connected and selected on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, you can use the tabs on the right-hand side to select which of your iTunes content to sync to it, so you can control which apps, photos, music etc are synced to it, and (via the Info tab) from which email account your contacts are synced from. Your computer's iTunes should remember your syncing preferences for each device.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card in the HP ENVY 17-j053ea?

    Hi
I'm considering buying the HP ENVY 17-j053ea for use as a portable workstation for applications such as Max Design, autocad and photoshop as a second system for when I need to be away from the office but still need the ability to work.
This machine seems to have a lot of bang per buck and is more in line with my budget than a full on portable workstation.
As far as upgrade options I presume I could max out the ram at 16GB and put in an SSD as the main OS and application drive and use the main 1TB drive as the mass storage unit.
What I'm wondering is if it possible to upgrade the graphics card in this machine?
I don't imagine I would be attempting such an upgrade myself but assuming I leave it into a professional is this possible.
My worry is that with some of my heavier model files I could feel the limitations of the mid range portable gfx card onboard. I could probably live with it if it is not an option but just putting feelers out.

    Thanks for the reply Paul
    I see.
    That doesn't sound feasible so.
I can manage the other 2 upgrades within my budget but things seem to get quite expensive on the higher end platforms very quickly.
It's my first foray into the laptop/workstation arena so I'm not that familiar yet with clever upgrade strategies.
I did have the use of this model for a few days and It is a really nice overall laptop, both aesthetically and value wise.

  • Upgrading the Graphics Card in HP ENVY h8-1414 Desktop Series PCs

What are the steps you need to do when Upgrading the Graphics Card  in HP ENVY h8-1414  Desktop Series PCs, with the HP M3970AM-HP (Angelica2) Motherboard. As it has no onboard video, so if the new card isn't installed correct you will not have picture on monitor.
    Going to install Radeon HD 6950 / 70 2GB DDR5

    Hi:
The only advice I can offer is to make sure you change the 2 BIOS settings required to be changed when you install a non-HP video card.
    See this link...
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03653200&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...
Also before you install the new video card, make sure you uninstall the driver from the old video card, shut down the PC and then install the new video card.
To uninstall the driver, go to the device manager, click to expand the display adapters category, right click on the display adapter listed there, select uninstall and check the uninstall driver box.  Do not reboot as prompted, shut the PC down.
However, I have no idea if the video card you intend to install is compatible with your PC.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card with my HP Envy DV7 - 7332EA

    Hi all,
I was hoping someone on here may be able to answer my question. I recently purchased a refurbished laptop from certain computer retailer, an HP Envy DV7-7332ea, it is an Intel i7, 16GB RAM and was supposed to come with a 2GB Nvidia GT635M. Long story short, said pc retailer did not tell me that the fault/refurbishment was with the graphics card and despite advertising it as being installed with the GT635M, it in fact had a shared Intel graphics card installed. Long story short after some truly horrific customer service - talking to my bedroom wall would have yielded the same level of responses - they have told me that the will not be fitting the correct graphics card - when pressed for an explanation or reason for this they have been unable to give me a technical explanation.
So, I'm assuming possibly the motherboard has been replaced as well which is preventing the graphics card from being upgraded. Now I realise that there could be numerous reasons this has happened, but I was hoping someone could answer me this.
Would the artchitecture of my laptop allow for a graphics card upgrade? If the motherboard has problems and these were resolved are the Envy range generally able to be upgraded?
    Thanks guys,

    Hi:
Unfortunately, the only way to upgrade the graphics adapter is to replace the motherboard with one that has the better nVidia GPU.
Doing that would cost about as much as buying a new notebook with the graphics solution you wanted in the first place.

  • Dv6-6052ea (LL050EA). Can I upgrade the graphics card?

OS: Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
    Here's the spec: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02787054&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=uk&dlc=en...
Is there any way to ugrade the graphics card without buying a new laptop? Or allocate more dedicated RAM?
The BIOS is Insydeh20 F.1B and there are no options to alter any graphics settings. Is there any way round that?
Not that I know a lot about computer specs but the GPU seems to be the reason I can't play games on decent settings and it's driving me mad.
    Cheers

    Hi:
You could upgrade the video in your PC to the Radeon HD 6770 with 2 GB of dedicated memory, but the entire motherboard would have to be replaced.
The costs attendant to doing such an upgrade would exceed the cost of purchasing a new notebook with the graphics solution you were looking for, when you consider the money you may recoup selling or trading in your current model.
There are no settings in the BIOS or elsewhere to allocate a different amount of memory (dedicated or system) to the video adapter. It is all done automatically.

  • How to change out or upgrade the graphics card on a HP ENVY 17-j020us Quad Edition Notebook PC

I am trying to find out if I can add another video card or if I can swap out the HP intel-4400 video card that came with this computer. I have tried looking on HP sites and can not find out if the graphics card is intergrated or if it is seperate.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
The "Intel HD graphics 4400" is soldered to the motherboard (or integrated) and you can not change or swap out. You have to live with that and saving money to buy another machine.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the Graphics Card on my laptop?

Hey quick question about my notebook. I own a dv6 laptop with an Nvidia Geforce GT 650M 2GB graphics card, (Here is a link of the laptop if you need more info http://asia.cnet.com/product/hp-pavilion-dv6-core-i7-3720qm-processor-2-6ghz-8gb-ram-45929959.htm)..... i was wondering if my card was upgradable. Im familiar with that most laptops are not upgradable but i have hope that my card is of the exception. Thanks everyone for taking the time and hope to hear an answer soon!

    Hi:
I highly doubt it can be.  I can't tell you for sure because the link you posted doesn't work.
Please enter the product number of your notebook (found on same sticker as the serial number) in the applicable box at the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=228&sw_lang=&product=top
You will then be directed to the support and driver page for your notebook.
Click on the manuals link on the right side of the page, and then click on the Maintenance and Service Guide.
Look in chapter 4 for the removal and replacement procedures.
If you don't see one for the graphics adapter, then that means the entire motherboard needs to be replaced with one listed in chapter 3 that may list support for better graphics.

  • Trying to upgrade the graphics card in a HP Envy H8-1414

I bought a Sapphire  HD 7950, and tried to install it. When booting up it would beep 6 times then the power light would just stay on. I did replace the power supply from a 300w to a 550w prior to putting in the new card. Originally the computer was a prebuilt HP H8-1414 with the power supply being the only thing I've changed.

Unfortunately it looks like this article applies to you. Computer Does not Start After Installing a Video Card (Windows 8). For the system to recognize your new video card and to boot up, you need to disable the secure boot feature in the BIOS and enable legacy boot. Follow the instructions in the article above to do so.
I work on behalf of HP, but my opinions are my own.
Please click the "Thumbs up + button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved. If both apply......do both.

  • Are there any ways to upgrade the graphics card on a sony vaio laptop?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Pretty much if you have to ask, the answer is no.
For those laptops that allow it (and "Sony Vaio" isn't specific enough to determine this, an exact model number and current configuration would be needed.), it's usually a difficult and expensive procedure that WILL void your warranty (unlike desktop video card upgrades).
If it has Intel GMA graphics, 100% are non-upgradeable.
If it has discrete graphics (ATI or NVidia), there's a slight chance but it's getting more and more rare.  In general, if multiple video card options were offered at purchase time for a system, it is possible to upgrade from the lower options to higher ones at a later date for significant expense.  The exception being systems that offered Intel GMA or other options - the GMA-based systems usually use a different motherboard than the other options (This was the case with the Dell E1705 series.)
