Look at what is happenning with your Mac when you run Activity Monitor.
Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor
Click on the CPU tab on the lower half of the window to see how much time you are using.
Click on System Memory to get statistics on memory usage. You should have some free memory.
When you have lots of page outs more memory will be helpful. My entry for entry for Page ins/outs is:
Page ins/outs: 29163/0
Notice I have 0 pageouts which says that I am not using my harddrive for extra memory space. Thus, I have enough memory.
Activity Monitor has a neat feature where it can display a dynamic dock icon. In Activity Monitor View > Dock icon > Show cpu history.

Lion uses Recovery to reinstall OS X. Press Command and R keys when your Mac starts, open Disk Utility, erase the drive and reinstall Lion. The other Mac has probably got its hard disk damaged, so take the Mac to an Apple Store

I am running the latest version of Internet Cleanup, version 5.0.0 (536) and don't see any updates to that, however, my MBP just started Kernel Panics (very rare) after a recent Software Update (Security or similar). Won't removing the files NetworkSpyAlert.kex and NetBlockade.kext uninstall this function of Internet Cleanup? I realize kernel extensions (.kext files) can bring down the OS, and try to stay away from them, unless they're from Apple directly. Third parties may be slow to fix or they blame each other and guess who usually wins? This leaves the user in a pickle, unless one adopts the practice of "it if crashes the Mac OS and didn't come from Apple, remove it" stance: practical.

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session. 
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows. 
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time. 
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History. 
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
Another possibility is to use:

How can I make Terminal run Java 7 downloaded from the Oracle Website?

I've downloaded Java 7 from the Oracle website, and I want the Terminal application to run that Java 7 download. I try to run Java programs that require Java 7, but it runs with the Apple Internal Java 6 release. How can I make it so my MacBook Pro runs the download of Java that I downloaded? I know this sounds stupid, but am I routing my machine to run the internal Java 6 version? I have seen many videos in which people with the same software version as me run Java like this with no problem. Could you please let me know why this is happening and how I can fix it? I really want to be able to use the Java 7, particularly because I'm always getting this "Unsupported Major Minor Version 51.0" from many applications that are Terminal based.

I think I've answered your question. The Oracle JRE is a web plugin. The JDK is a development kit for applications with embedded Java. Neither one replaces the Apple-distributed Java frameworks for running standalone applications without embedded Java. Any other questions you have should be answered by the Oracle documentation.

My provider is gmail through Rogers in Canada. I use Thunderbird. My iMac is set for imap. I am unable to find where it tells me what mu iPad is set for. I've checked settings: mail and can't find it.

It seemed to be pretty quick when I first bought it. but it started slowing down.
So I put 8 gigs of ram into it.
but it still runs painfully slow.
I spent the day putting files in the trashbin. Today I am deleting them perm. BUt even the empty function is slow. It can take 2 or 3 seconds to delete a single file. Right now, the process has been stuck on the same file delete for almost a minute.
I have run disk utils, and it came back instantly as fine.
So, I have 4 questions.
1... is there a check list to improve speed.
2... It there a utiltiy program I should run to confirm my files. I have uninstalled a number of programs. Perhaps they were not uninstalled properly?
3... I understand that there are some disksweep tools to stay away from. Especially the free once. Can I get a list of the bad players
4... I am thinking of replacing the Hard Drive with an ssd/hard drive combo. they seem to be getting cheaper, and I have heard some good thinkgs about them. I know it would void my warrentee, butcan I get some stories about the transition.

Whenever I play a video the flash player logo shows and I have to click it first. How can I make videos play automatically?

Every time I go to play a video the F symbol appears and I have to click it each time to play the video. Alternatively I have to right click the page and go into "no script" and allow that particular page. This didnt use to happen until recently. Running windows vista Firefox 3.6.

If you use extensions like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
You need to check the (global) settings in NoScript to see how you can unblock Flash content.

I have bought a German card for the app Store, but I have a Dutch Ipad. Nobody tells you that you have a problem.
I assumed that Apple was international and that cards bought in different countries were no problem and you could use them anywhere.
Sofar for Apple. I did not expect this from such a big firm. so what am I to do. I can't get my money back, no help from Apple non what so ever.

All iTunes cards are country-specific, and can only be used in their country of issue - those that I've bought here in the UK say on them that they are only valid in the UK store, does the card that you have say similar ? Do you know anybody in Germany that you could sell or give the card to ?

See QuicktimeKirk's post about Poster Movies in this thread: Movies on iWeb. The movie file size is probably the prime contributor to the slowness of loading. Some other tips I've learned in the forum are:
1 - do not use and frames or borders, etc. around photos.
2 - don't use any reflections.
3 - create your own navigation bar with linked text* and turn of the iWeb Navigation bar. The nav bar is all png based.
4 - use only the web safe fonts from the Font pane.
5 - do not use drop shadow on fonts.
6 - turn off smart quotes.
7 - don't let text boxes overlap with other objects or put graphic files in a text box with the text.
The above will reduce the number and size of files associated with a web page quite a bit. Photos with fancy frames and reflections can generate a thumbnail png of around 110KB whereas the plain version will be a jpg of only 28KB. Although it doesn't sound like a lot, it can speed up loading of the page and be more darkside (i.e. PC) friendly. But it takes away some of the fancy stuff that iWeb can do.
Run a test with a test site and publish to a folder. Then follow the hints above and publish to another folder and compare folders.
*Put your linked text directly under the Navigation bar. Then turn off the nav bar in the Inspector window. The nav bar will disappear and the linked text will move up to the top of the page.

Help needed with a SELECT statement. How can I make it run faster?

not sure if my brain is just too tired but I can't seem to crack this problem today.
Here is my scenario.
I have 2 tables
TABLE1 (searchId INTEGER, routeId INTEGER);
TABLE2 (routeId INTEGER, cityId INTEGER);
There are indexes on all 4 columns.
(routeId on TABLE1 is a primary key).
In the data I am using, a given search has more than 500 routes, each route has between 10 and 300 cities among more than 4000 possible different cities.
Now, what I want to create is the list of route couple, within a certain search, that do not have a single city in common.
That list should populate a table with the following structure
TABLE3 (searchId INTEGER, routeId1 INTEGER, routeId2 INTEGER)
Here is the fastest select statement I have found so far.
SELECT :searchId, t1.routeId, t2.routeId FROM table1 t1, table1 t2
WHERE t1.searchId=:searchId AND t2.searchId=:searchId
AND t1.routeId>t2.routeId
