  • I have two .mac addresses; how does this work in iCloud?

This is not about consolidating Apple ID's... I think.
When I got my first .mac address, I thought I picked a good one at the time. Later on, due to the peculiar spelling, I opted for an additonal (paid) address which I use every day. Now the first one (which is an Apple ID) contains my calendars, contacts, etc. I never use the email portion of it, again because of challenging spelling. The second .mac address (also an Apple ID) is an email only account. This is the email account I use daily.
When I make the transition to iCloud, I intend to keep my original AppleID (from the pre-.mac days) as my iTunes store ID.
My question is, what happens with my two other accounts?
.mac #1 with the contacts and such would move to iCloud and sync everything there as it currently does with MobileMe. Since .mac #2 is an email only account, would I even need to bother moving it to iCloud (if that's even possible), or would I just keep using that as email only using the current mail settings on my iThingys and Mac? Does anyone know if .mac #2 will live on after MobileMe vanishes, or will I loose my daily and coveted .mac email at that time?
I'm sure Apple has a good reason for not allowing us to just consolidate everything in one place, but I know there are many out there with a similar situation to mine.
I've spent a good deal of time tonight searching the various threads and can't seem to find an answer to the two .mac email dilemma. My appologies if it's already been discussed.
To sum up, I have one Apple ID that I use for iTunes and intend to keep as such. I have two .mac addresses which are also Apple ID's; one that syncs with MobileMe and one that is email only. I would like to use iCloud to sync what is currently on MobileMe, AND continue to use the simpler email address that I've been using for years.
    Am I screwed??
Thanks in advance for your help, and Happy Holidays to all!!

Migrate the account which contains your calendars, contacts etc. first, at http://me.com/move and set it up on your Mac and devices.
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html
Now migrate the email-only account in the same way. On a Mac you can add it in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars - it won't sync anything but will be added to the accounts in Mail where you can then use the email in the normal way.
I don't know what the equivalent process on an iOS device is; very likely you need to add it as an account in the Mail app.

  • Does the C7200 All in One have a MAC Address?

I need the MAC accress from the printer so I can enter it into the security of my router.  Does the printer have a MAC address and where do I find it?

As a side note -- MAC-filtering does not improve the security of your wireless-network in any meaningful way.  The best way to secure your home wireless network is to use WPA-PSK (or WPA2-PSK) encryption.
MAC-filtering is easily spoofed.  It's trivial to listen in on a wireless network, note the MAC addresses being used and to reprogram one of those MAC addresses into your notebook's wireless radio.
BTW -- hiding your SSID is also a bad idea from a security point of view since it doesn't hide your network at all.
There's a good discussion here on this subject.

  • Will I Still Have a .Mac Address

I have not switch to iCloud yet, mainly because I currently do not wish to upgrade my Mac to Lion as I would lose the functionality of some software I use just about daily.  But next year when MobileMe is sent packing, I will have to switch.  When this day comes, will I still have my .mac address?  I've used this for so many years, I don't want to have to let everyone know that I have a new address.  Also in the Mac mail program I use an AOL account as well, will this address be supported in iCloud as well?

Yes, I believe your .mac email account will still be available once mobileme is fully retired.
You should also have no problem accessing your AOL account through the OS X mail client.

  • Does the ethernet adapter have a MAC address?

Hi, I wonder if anyone can answer this one for me. I use programs under bootcamp that need a 'dongle' to prevent them being used on more than one machine at once. ProE for example uses a Pluscom ethernet adaptor that carries its own unique MAC address that the license is assigned to. My question is, is the Mac ethernet adapter the same? does it have a unique address - should be six pairs of numbers / letters.
Just wondering if I could use one of the Mac adapters for this purpose.
    Thanks for any help

Yes, the Apple Ethernet adapter will have a Media Access Control (MAC) address. In general, every network adapter (NIC) will have a unique MAC address. So if your program only works with a specifc MAC address, basically you can't install the program on a different computer without contacting the software vendor for a new installation code or whatever. (More specifically, you can't change the NIC. If you change computers, you need to keep the NIC.)
In Windows, to get the MAC address, open a command prompt and type "IPCONFIG /ALL" (without the quotes.) The line that says "Physical Address" is the MAC address. Note that you may have more than one NIC. (Wired, Wi-Fi, etc.) So you need to be sure you get the appropriate MAC address for the desired NIC.

  • Considering buying time capsule have some Mac address related questions

    Hi,
as mentioned above I'm considering buying a time capsule for backup and wifi purposes.
My internet providers connection depends upon a set Mac address from the first computer you register with, the system works with any router which then clones the MAC address and issues a wifi signal to all computers. I don't have access to the origional computer which we registered our connection on, it went to the great computer graveyard in the sky and I have no record of the Mac address.
I Would like to use the time capsule system as a router and remove my existing router. my questions
can the time capsule spoof or clone a Mac address ?
I Don't want to be offline while we deal with technical support as they are quite inept sometimes.
Is it in this case really plug and play ? Can I just plug it in set it up on my Mac and away it goes where other non Apple devices can use the wifi.
Without the existing router the cable that comes into the house connect directly to the ' original ' computer and the Internet only works on that computer
hope  someone can help me I would like to purchase this device

The Time Capsule cannot clone a MAC address, so quite simply, the product is not for you.

  • HT204088 My company purchased a macbook air with cash in march. I need the billing note for accounting but im not a 100% sure what store in New Jersey i bought it in. I have the Mac address of the computer, where can I send it to get an accounting note?

The question pretty much says it all. What can be done?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Take the Mac's serial number, not a MAC address, to one of the stores and perhaps they know how to find what you need on Apple's retail servers.

  • WRT54GL MAC ADDRESS FILTER

Hi I have a wireless access point WRT54GL and i configure it with mac address filter but it allow me to put only 40 mac and i need more? Is there any way to add more? Thanx

Install 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt or hyperwrt+thibor. That should give you more. However, remember a bad flash may brick the router and is not covered by warranty.
Also remember, that the wireless mac address filter does not provide you with any reasonable security. MAC addresses are quickly captured and quickly cloned. It only takes a few minutes to gather some mac addresses which are allowed into your wireless network and that's it.
Set up wireless security with WPA2 or WPA and a strong passphrase. That's all you can do to really protect your wireless.
If you want more detailed access control, consider installing a RADIUS server and using user/password authentication based on WPA2 or WPA (using the RADIUS or Enterprise variants).
But the wireless mac address filter is widely overrated as security mean and only requires a lot of work and time to maintain the lists.

Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
    Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.

  • I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router that has a MAC address

A month ago, I could print from my PC and my Mac to my Epson printer over my Linksys WRT54G wireless network.  Now, for some reason, I cannot connect and print from either computer.  An Epson tech asked me to check the MAC address of the Mac and the printer to see if they were the same.  They were not.  He then opined that might be why I couldn't print.
I don't know what changed a month or so ago or why it changed.  I have not done anything to change the MAC address on either the MAC or the printer.
The Epson guy said the problem might be fixed by adding my printer's MAC address to my router's MAC address.  Something about "enabling MAC address filtering".  Then he told me that was an issue to pursue with my router manufacturer.  Naturally.
Speaking of that problem...someone else had it, too...another technician at another site wrote: "...by default, routers don't come with mac address filtering enabled...and if that's the case....then adding the printer's MAC will not solve any issue that you may be having..."
    So, three qustions:
    (1)  Can I add my Epson Workforce 545 printer's MAC address to my Linksys router?  Is that possible?
    (2)  If I can do it, how do I do it?  I saw no "add" or "edit" functions on the Linksys WRT54G Status Page.
    (3)  What causes MAC address mismatching to happen?   What is unstable in that assembly?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Mac addresses with different devices will differ. No two devices will have the same mac address. this is also called the hardware address. This is designed so that it will serve as a unique identifier of your devices in the network which you can check thru the router. Now it is possible that wireless mac filter might be blocking it from connecting to the network. But it would be best to check as well and make sure that the printer is connected to your network and has the same ip address segment as your router.
How to check if mac filter is enabled:
Setting up wireless MAC Filtering to permit users to connect to the wireless network on your Linksys...
Setting up wireless MAC Filtering to prevent users from connecting to the wireless network on your L...

  • WRT54GL V 1.1 : how to reserve IP for specific MAC address using DHCP

My !free! made in China router have this functionality. And yet I have been banging my head with this new reasonably expensive wireless router from Linksys. Anyway I lug my notebook around. I need my home router to be able to automatically configure notebook IP address using DHCP. At the same time I need the ip given by home router through DHCP to be the same IP all the time. So "static" ip is not the solution. Alternative "static" ip is also not a solution. Anything with the word "static" in it is not a solution. I know about third party firmware (wrt or tomato) and I know WRT54GL can be flashed with this third party firware. But I'm not going to void my warranty. This will be my last option but not the solution that I seek. I would like to know how to reserve ip for specific mac address using DHCP for WRT54GL V1.1. If this version have no way to make such configuration, I would like to know if there is official firmware upgrade that address this. Thanks in advance!

  • Block curtain MAC-addresses on my WRT54GL

    Hello
I use a Linksys WRT54GL for my wireless setup in my apartment. I have noticed that there sometimes are unknown MAC-addresses in "DHCP Clients Table". I guess it is my neighbours or someone on the street.
Am I able to block a curtain MAC-address, so I precent them to connect to my network. And how?
    Best regards,
    MAthias

Under the Wireless tab, click on the Wireless Mac Filter>>>>choose the option enable and click on the option "document.write("Prevent PCs listed below from accessing the wireless network.") Prevent PCs listed below from accessing the wireless network" and then, click on Edit Mac Filter List to enter the Mac Address which you want to prevent.

  • How to make mac address gmail contacts overwrite the ones on my HTC Android phone - I don't want to sync - that makes the phone scramble and overwrite my computer.  I want to remove or correctly overwrite the phone information as I have done with iPad.

Please help - I am beginning to hate google, my android and gmail.  I have just wasted about 5 hours in a futile attempt to try and get my current Mac contacts list on my computer updated to my phone. I'm not that computer literate but I have looked up about google phone accounts, vCards, backing up contact lists, what SD on phones are, and God know what else.  I have searched the internet and tried all sorts of things and I still have a mac with a now correct contact list (after the iPad contacts scrambled it and I spent ages manually correcting them all) and a phone with an outdated contact list.  If you try and sync them the phone wants to overwrite the computer one just like the iPad did (would it be so **** hard to give you a choice on the phone as to which overwrites which!).  After all the  advice on the internet failed, I got the bright idea to completely delete all the ones on the phone and if it was empty of contacts the computer one could be exported to it.  Not as simple as it sounds.  First I backed up (I think) my computer contacts list. Numerous futile attempts to go through the phone options to globally delete all contacts did not work - they gave a warning message and you got to choose whether to continue or not, I did, and it looked like it might be working as it changed to zero data on the phone, but then they all popped back up again from God knows where from, but without their little added bits like pictures of the people.  So, I tried un- syncing the darn phone from  google and then deleting them globally.  That didn't work either.  I tried deleting them  all again and again and google would crash and not let me do it. It is absolutely ridiculous that this is so damned difficult to do (especially if you are not computer savvy) and that you cannot choose which device overwrites which when syncing. I gave up and ticked sync with Google again (not that it appears to do anything to the phone contact list at all).  So after 5 hours I am back to where I started from, with a phone showing all the same  incorrect contacts (but the pictures are back), which wants to overwrite the computer if I try any sort of sync, and no way to fix them except go into each one manually and try and do it - and how long would that take (and I've already wasted hours and hours fixing scrambled contact lists!).  I think I will do a print out of the computer contact list and just carry it around with me like an address book - so much bloody simpler.  So now I have a headache, am fighting an overwhelming urge to hurl the phone at the wall,  hoping for a heat wave to evaporate icloud things and am wishing I had bought an iPhone instead of the stupid HTC Android.  Can any one offer me any suggestions on how to get rid of the contacts on my phone and replace them with the ones in my mac address list - hopefully after that  they can sync to their hearts content and not stuff everything up again (which was why I unsynced google a while back - because the phone's list kept making stuff ups and scrambling and duplicating my computer contacts list).  Am I the only one on the planet having this problem or is there someone else out there who has had it and solved it.

Without "pretending" to be yourself on the other phone (change settings) there's nothing else you can do.
iOS devices are meant to be single user and can't view iCloud.com the same way a Mac or PC can do.
You need to find a desktop or laptop machine (Mac or PC) to log in at iCloud.

I have 2 email addresses (1 mac.and 1 blueyonder.) each with separate identities and passwords. I am forever getting asked to verify identity and/or passwords and having these refused and me then having to set up new ones. Can I combine my email addresses to a single Apple Identity and Password? If yes then How?
Any help much appreciated as this is driving me crazy!

    Depending on what you're asking...
There is no means to merge Apple IDs.  You can change the mail address assocaited with your Apple ID, so you might switch to using and purchasing from one email address, and using the second as a backup.  (There's no means to merge the purchases, and related baggage.)
While I'm guessing this was about Apple IDs, for completeness...  Combining the mail messages involving multiple email addresses is separate from the Apple ID; that is usually done with some combination of notifying the senders or with the forwarding of messages from one mail server to the preferred server.  Or running multiple mail accounts in parallel, depending on what you are up to.
