Hi guys.. Can anyone help me merge these two accounts or take sensible steps to get rid of one account.. So that I can see all my music from one account?

You cannot merge Appleaccounts. Delete the one you do not wish to use from the device.

I'm afraid there is no way too merge two icloud accounts together per se. However if you;
1. Go to SETTINGS on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Go to iCLOUD.
3. Scroll to the very bottom, press DELETE ACCOUNT. Before you panic, this is not going to Delete your iCloud account. It is simply going to delete the bridge that connects your device to the iCloud.
4. Choose to KEEP ITEMS ON YOUR DEVICE if asked.
Then sign into your 2nd account, and this will merge both accounts onto one device. There is not much else you can do I'm afraid!

If your second account is actually an iCloud account with data in it, as opposed to a login for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match (which isn't actually anything to do with iCloud itself) you can sign in with it in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars and its data will appear alongside the main account. (You can't use PhotoStream and a few other facilities with this secondary account, and you don't get 'push' email, only checking at intervals).
If the second ID is in fact only for iTunes just go on as you are: there is no conflict about doing this and you won't even notice as Keychain will log you in with the correct ID in each case. It's also better security not to have your iTunes login also your email address, given the number of complaints about hacked iTunes accounts.

I originaly had an apple ID with itunes established many years ago. Some years later I obtained a .me account. It appears that when iCloud was created I somehow seem to have ended up with 2 identities. the original iTunesone and the one associated with the then new .me email. I would like to continue using the original iTunes ID (as most of my content is there) but iCloud insists that I need to create another .me email address for that iTunes ID. I do not want two addresses, can I merge these accounts and only use 1 .me addres?

You can keep the original ID for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match, and use a different ID for iCloud for email, calendar, contacts and bookmarks syncing and PhotoStream.
In iTunesStore>Account you can change the email address associated with the login ID if you with - the actual login doesn't have to be a functioning email address.
This means that iTunes will have a different login to iCloud, but Keychain will take care of this anyway so your won't need to remember which one to use. It's better security to have your iTunes login different from your easily discoverable email address, given the number of complaints about iTunes accounts being hacked.

You cannot merge Apple IDs, so content in an iTunes account controlled by one Apple ID cannot be merged with another so that you can then abandon one Apple ID. But you can merge the content from multiple iTunes accounts into the same iTunes libraries on the same computer. You need to authorize the computer for the content. You do so by signing into an iTunes account in the iTunes app on the computer and then authrizing the computer for content from that account in the Store dropdown menu. That merged library can then be synced to multiple iOS devices. The first time you use content from one of the accounts, you will most likely be asked to sign into that account to authorize the use of the content from that account on that device.

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
For compilations that aren't, select all tracks, Get Info, and on the option tab set Part of a Compilation to No. If it already says No tick the box alongside, then click OK.

Thank you for your suggestion. I backup on itunes. I went to itunes, deleted syncing my contacts, then re-synced them. But the Facetime capability option continues to be there on most (not all, for some curious reason) of my contacts. I am not sure I posed my question correctly. I want to be able to FT with my family, so don't want to delete the FT capability totally from my iphone and ipad. But I don't want all these other iphone calls from various contacts to ring on my ipad as FT calls. I want a way to select with whom I have FT capabilities. Any further suggestions? I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

No, unfortunately you cannot merge accounts or transfer any purchased content from one account to another. As I said Apple won't let you do that.

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
