hi i have the 1st gen apple tv and suddenly when trying to rent a movie i don't see the rental interface. i did a factory restore and now i see movie trailors and my movies but not rental option. any idea what could be wrong??

Sorry, no way around this limitation on an iOS device. To use a new iCloud account, you need to create such on a computer first, then setup the account on your iOS device.

Is it possible to run iTunes from a NAS hard drive so that the content is available to 1st Gen Apple TV and I can turn off my MacBook and still see the content of the library?

I have a first gen Apple TV with a 160 gig hard drive, it is nearly full with films and music, my iTunes library is well over 190 gig and climbing, the only way I can access all of my music and films is to have iTunes open on my Mac. I have now moved my library to a NAS device and I want to be able to run iTunes so that my entire library is available on the Apple TV without having to have my Mac switched on. So the first question I have, is this possible? Secondly, if it is possible how do you do it?
The ideal solution would be for iTunes to run from the NAS as I have already told iTunes my library is there.

You can certainly put your library on a flash drive, though I'd strongly, strongly recommend that you have another copy of your library elsewhere, as flash drives are easily lost, broken or corrupted. You cannot count on tracks always being available for redownload from the iTunes Store, if you have any such.
The easiest way to move your library is to just drag the entire iTunes folder (the _entire_ folder, _not_ just the iTunes Music folder) to your desired location. Then hold down the Shift key while launching iTunes. You'll be given a dialog box where you can select the iTunes library you want to use. Navigate to and select the iTunes folder in it's new location.
Note that this procedure assumes that all of your tracks are contained in the iTunes folder. If they're scattered around your volumes, moving them becomes much more complex. And don't launch iTunes with the flash drive not mounted or iTunes will default back to the internal drive. If it does, though, just mount the external drive and launch iTunes with the Shift key again.
Don't delete the tracks from the old location until you've confirmed that they're working correctly from the flash drive.

In theory I would expect it to do so, but I would check with B&W if it behaves to all intents and purposes as an Airport Express does for Airtunes.

My older iPod Touch has music from another Apple ID, but I have had multiple other Apple IDs and I can't find out which ones they are from. I would also like to know how I can copy the music and have it saved to my computer as an audio file.

So I have an iPod Touch, 2nd or 3rd gen., and it has music synced from multiple Apple IDs. I need to know how to copy that music as an audio file to save on my computer.

You can copy iTunes purchased from a device to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases - if the account is authorised on your computer's iTunes then you should be prompted to authorise it when trying to copy them.
Or there are programs listed half-way down this page which can copy them back : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
You can then add them to your iTunes library via File > Add To Library, again you should be prompted to authorise the account if it's not already authorised.
You can also find the account that a track is tied to be selecting/highlighting it in the My Music part of your library, or the Music section of 'OnMy Device' when you select the device, and doing 'get-info' (command-i) - it will show on one of the tabs on the popup

My main computer I have my itunes with died, I had all of my music there. I do have all music on an ipod nano but when I connect it to one of my other computers it wants to erase what is there, can I use the cloud to upload all my music from the nano?

My main computer died where i was keeping tohusands of songs, never had a icloud account to share with all my computers I authorized for my account. I do have just about all of the music ononeofmy ipod nanos. Can I set up a cloud account and then upload all of my music from the nano? Premiere Pro CC gradually slows down, then crashes, but won't quit all the way. Corrupts project, and hangs when trying to open it.

Working on a project, updated to newest Premiere last night. This morning my project had terrible performance on playback, and eventually the viewer froze on one frame (though audio continued to play back). Every time I try to open it now, it freezes. Really screwing me over, as this project is one a time line. Any suggestion for trouble shooting?

"Music Videos" under "Music" header on my 1st gen Apple TV menu is missing.

I no longer seem to have "Music Videos" under the "Music" header on my 1st gen Apple TV menu. This occurred about a month ago now (early October). Does anyone know why? I have worked with Apple Support and I have reset my device to factory settings to no avail...
I actually used this menu option often but I might have been the only person who did since I cannot find any information on it nor does anyone seem to know it even existed:)... I am more curious to find out what has happended now than expecting a fix for it.
I have had a rough couple months with my Apple products actually...:(

Having the same issues.....I have two 1st Gen Apple TVs and neither are showing on the Remote App on any of my devices as of Dec 24th. Everything is connected to the same network, have most recent updates to Remote App, software of devices, itunes. Rebooted router, computer, apple tvs....deleted the app, reinstalled...turned off wifi and homesharing, then turned back on and the Remote App will only find my itunes library and not the Apple TVs. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 1st gen apple tv. I have always and only streamed from my 1T TC. What has heppened is: it follows menus to the selected movie and when i select the movie, the 1st 1 second of video plays and then freezes. The audio continues for i don't know how long because i stop it. I have tried to sync a movie to it (wirelessly) and it tells me i have to open port 336(?)
1. Anyone know how i can fix the streaming? or how to open a port so i can try syncing...
I'd rather stream as i have 100's of movies to stream

sudo ipfw add allow ip from 336 to 336
sudo reboot
If this does not work, try connecting the Apple TV to the Time Capsule via ethernet.
WARNING
Before entering sudo reboot, save any open files. You will lose all changes during the reboot.
You will need an admin password. The characters will not show when entering the password.
Also, you could go to Settings>Computers>Your Library.
Then go to Settings>Computers>Add iTunes Library. A code will be displayed. In iTunes, go to iTunes>Prefrences>Apple TV>Remove.
After that, restart iTunes. Your Apple TV should appear under Devices. Select it and enter the code.
If that doesn't work, I don't know what will.

Using 1st Gen Apple TV on several Logins

I have a house guest that I have set up a separate login account for on my Mac. I have already setup my iTunes library so they have access to it, but no purchase rights, while on the machine. I have 2 1st Gen Apple TVs associated with my library. How can I enable the apple tvs so he can watch movies or listen to music from his side of the Mac?

More or less the same story here.
My Apple TV and my iTunes got along just fine until I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Now Edit > Preferences > Apple TV no longer exists so it's hard to check "Look for Apple TVs". The Apple TV device doesn't show up in iTunes.
I, too, am afraid I'm going to lose stuff I bought with Apple TV that hasn't been synced with my iTunes library.

1st gen Apple TV - synced photos not visible

I have my iTunes set to sync all my photos with my 1st gen Apple TV and this has worked flawlessly until today.
Although the "settings" tab on iTunes shows all my photos are synced, on the Apple TV when I go to my Photos tab I get the error message that "there are no photos on your Apple TV - to sync photos set up a connection with iTunes"
I do have a connection with iTunes - all my other media is synced, and according to iTunes the photos should be there too.
I'm at a loss as to what to do, and would be grateful for any advice.

If I can stream HD on my 1st gen Apple TV can I expect same from 2nd gen?

I just rented Legend of the Guardians in HD on my 1st gen Apple TV and it played instantly at 12pm on Sunday. My connection is 15 mbits according to DSLreports. Can I expect the same performance from Apple TV version 2? When I got the 1st generation Apple TV it sucked for streaming HD and now I never use it for that because the experience was so frustrating. I got an Apple TV 2 for Christmas and I'm trying to decide if I should return it before opening it. Netflix is the main appeal but I can get a bluray player that streams netflix, vudu and more for about the same price. More reliable HD streaming from Apple might be enough for me to keep it.

I have 3 Apple tv's one that is the 1st gen I think 40 gb one that is 160 gb and finally the streaming one. I think that the newer one for me seems to suffer maybe a little more interference than the 1st gen models. My fix with suggestion was to have it run on the 5GHZ side maybe it was interference I don't really know all I know that I can stream movies no problem. I do have cable service at 20 mbps it should have no problems but running at 2.4 I did have problems saying it would take hours before I could watch the movie.I download on Itunes HD movies.
