I am trying to reinstall my programs (which I lost when my hard-drive crashed) on my Mac Book.
The unit works well, having used my mac os x Leopard Cd.
I am however, unable to load my Address Book (from a stick) and some pictures from a Cd which used to work previously on the unit.
Can you help?

You probably want to start by updating your OS, if your information is correct and you are still running 5.1.1. You may also want to try the Gmail app. I find it works very well.

Hi there sorry to hear that, if you have previously backed up your iPad you can restore it to that backup, do you know if you have a previous backup? If you go to iTunes,edit then preferences then devices you will see you previous backups, your photos could be there if you backed up your photos previously though i hope this helps you.

Didnt help. The night I asked this question I was able to reboot from the external hard drive after running Disk repair (which said everything was fine). Tonight I have tried again and cannot boot from the external. So I tried the Safe Mode restart and then chose restart with the option key held down as well as shutting down and trying holding down the option key while turning on the power. I have never been able to reboot just choosing restart and holding down the option key. Whenever the reboot from the external has worked I've had to shut down and hold the option key while turning the power on. Now that is not working. My computer is brand new as is the hard drive. I don't know where to go from here.
I can access the drive just fine while I'm in Lion. I just can't boot up using it. Help!

I'm trying to load the Snow Leopard disc into my older 20" monitor but it isn't working...

Hi, I'm old school still using the OS 10.5.8 on my 20" monitor iMac, I've purchased the snow leopard upgrade but the drive won't accept it and spits the disc out so how can I get the drive to read it?
I put the disc in and about 30 seconds later it spits the disc. I've attempted this procedure 8-10 times. Obviously, I need to upgrade so I ordered the Snow Leopard through Apple and they sent me the disc.

Your optical drive may be out of alignment or the laser may be dirty or the disc you received is defective.
What you can try is to use a different Mac that can read the DVD, if it's not defective. Get an 8 GB or larger USB flash drive. Partition it GUID and format it Mac OS Extended, Journaled. Clone the mounted DVD to the flash drive using Disk Utility.
Drive Partition and Format
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
the Source entry field.
6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the USB flash drive. Source means the mounted DVD on the Desktop.

If you restored to factory defaults/new iPod and still have a problem then you likely have a hardware problem. An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money..

Can I use the new cheap Snow Leopard disc on a G5 that has a wiped system?

I was lucky enough to get hold of one of my companies old G5's recently. It is a 1.6 single core and has been refurbished. For whatever reason though my company always wipe the hard drive clean before handing them on to us so it does not actually work at present. What I need to know is will the new ultra cheap Snow Leopard disc get this system working or do I need the full package version? My budget is limited and I am ignorant of all things Apple so want to take baby steps with this.

Just make sure it's the generic DVD (one that will work in any Mac model) and not a model-specific version.
You might be advised to Google for it, for a while, before buying.
But it seems to be selling cheaply now.

it's less powerful than your average computer. THink of it like a netbook but with a better processor.
It'll do fine for surfing (although if you browse a lot of flash based sites you will need to get a third party browser since safari doesn't accommodate it)
You may do OK on reading books, papers or magazines, especially if they have apps, but the ipad's screen is backlit, so it doesn't work well outdoors and you may need to fiddle with the brightness so that you don't get eye strain (it's just like doing too much reading from a computer screen)
I would say the biggest short comings are data transfer. Apple's preferred work flow is that everything is done via iTunes or the internet....well people dont' always have 100% reliable always on internet access so you can find yourself in a situation where you can't get things on/off the iPad.
By and large, it's a good device for day to day stuff, but is not a computer replacement.

When this happens to a new user the two most likely causes are:
Aperture opend a different library that is empty. To check this go to File->Switch to Library. You'll get a window that looks somehting like this:
Of course the names for the libraries will be different. What does yours show? Is there more then one library listed. If you select Other/New you get this:
The first library in the list is the currenttly opened Library. What does you window say?
2. The other possibilty is that you have a filter set on the library keeping you from actually seeing the images in it. Go to the Library tabb of the Inspector and select the Photos icon. Make sure the search box looks like this:
If neither of these two actions clear up your problem post back.

Backup do not contaiuns music or apps, you will either need to resync them from your itunes computer, or you can go to purchase history in itunes or app store app and go to purchase history and redownload them.

I have lost all the notes I have taken for the past several months.

I have reset my iPhones and made sure all notes accounts are being displayed and active.
