Hi. I'm running Mac Tiger 10.4.11 so can't upgrade Firefox.

How long will I be able to use the old version? Is security still OK?

Support for Firefox 3.6.x is expected to end in the first quarter of 2012.
Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do have) '''''<u>and</u>''''' OSX 10.5 or higher ('''''yours is OSX 10.4''''').

'''''The good news''''' is that Firefox 3.6.24 still supports OSX 10.4 and Macs with the PPC Mac architecture. '''''The bad news''''' is that support for the Firefox 3.6.x series is likely to end in the first quarter of 2012.

Looking at the qualifications for the upgrade my machine seems to qualify.  Any ideas?
    Thank you.

Your computer doesn’t meet the requirements for Yosemite(it doesn’t have a 64-bit EFI), but can be upgraded to Lion.

  • I am currently using Tiger 10.4.11 how can I upgrade to Panther?

Hi  I have a iMacg5 intel,  currently using Tiger 10.4.11 how can I upgrade to  10.5? Thanks in advance, Rene.

There is no iMac G5 Intel,
"G5" is a PowerPC processor and "Intel" is well a Intel processor.
    10.5 is Leopard
10.6 is Snow Leopard whichh only runs on Intel processors)
10.7 is coming out soon and doens't run on 32 bit Intel Core Duo processors.
You can find out exactly what machine you have by going to the Apple Menu > About this Mac > More information.
Look for something like "iMac 1,2" and post what you see here.
You might have to have someone from a Mac friendly computer shop come take a look at your machine, set you up, backup your files and set a backup plan in place and so forth.
Problems with third party software could arise, and you might be forced to upgrade software. All that will have to be investigated before you proceed with a operating system upgrade.
Don't want to be caught later paying for upgrades you might not be able to get.

  • I have just brought a new ipod and it won't work with my old imac as it is running pre 10.5 software. I can't upgrade the software, so what should I do?

I have just brought a new ipod and it won't work with my old imac as it is running pre 10.5 software. I can't upgrade the software, so what should I do?

There is nothing to do, unless you buy a new computer.
Mac OS 10.5.8 or later is required.

  • Downloaded Firefox 4 to my Mac OS10.5.8 and now can not open Firefox.

Downloaded Firefox 4 to my Mac OS10.5.8 and now can not open Firefox. The processor is 1.25 GHz Power PC G4 and 768 MB DDR SDRAM memory. Is it possible to go back to an earlier version that was running very well on my Mac?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

    I have an iMac4
We're missing a character here. If you have an iMac G4, Klaus's info is spot-on. However , if you got that model info from System Profiler and it was really iMac4,1 or iMac4,2 then you can run up to 10.6.8, available for about US$20 by calling Apple at 1-800-MY-APPLE if you are in N. America.
Please do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and tell us what processor is described. That will settle this quickly.

  • I have an imac 2006 running 10.6.8 but I still can't upgrade to Mavericks. Is this model not able to run mavericks or is there a way to download?

I have an imac 2006 running 10.6.8 but I still can't upgrade to Mavericks. Is this model not able to run mavericks, or is there a way to download? Apple says any imac running snow leopard or later.

Again, some proof would be nice
Instead of just making a casual, blanket statement, why don't you just post the actual install procedure here, then.
Also, the 2006 models really do not have sufficient RAM specs to run Mavericks well.
So, I seriously question that your 2006 model iMac is running well on Mavericks.
2006 models could either take 2 or 3 GBs of RAM (you can install 4 GBs of RAM to take advantage of more efficient RAM processing of matched pairs of RAM, but the hardware will only recognize 3.2 to 3.4 GBs of that total RAM). This is barely the needed "real world" "working" minimum of RAM needed for Mavericks to run adaequately.
New iMacs ship with a much better 8 GBs of RAM.
If you can't offer/post proof with an actual install procedure for installing Mavericks on unsupported Macs, then I would suggest you stop posting your assertion that
"I have done it" garbage and post knowledge and info that is REAL and relevant to users of 2006 model Macs that need accurate info about this.

  • My cd/dvd drive isn't working and i want to upgrade my mac os x10.5.8, how can i upgrade without the software CD

my cd/dvd drive isn't working and i want to upgrade my mac os x10.5.8, how can i upgrade without the software CD

I think not.   You will need to order a disc from Apple quoting your serial number, as many of these discs are machine specific.   So unless you can get your drive working I think you will have to take a trip to an Apple store.
Indeed, you have an old computer that may not be worth the cost of repair ... but it is still worth seeking Apple advice and a visual inspection.   It just might be something not too drastic.

  • I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, can I upgrade to Mountain Lion without first upgrading to Snow Leopard or Lion?

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, can I upgrade to Moutain Lion without first upgrading to Snow Leopard or Lion first?

    No.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • I am running on an OSX 10.6.3 can i upgrade directly to os x lion?

i am running on an OSX 10.6.3 can i upgrade directly to os x lion?

You'll need to update to 10.6.8 before you can download the Lion installer from the App Store.  Also, note that once you download the installer, make a copy of it (it'll be in the Applications folder) before installing, as it'll self-delete.  Use the copy to make a bootable Lion install disk for future use.

  • June 10 2012 Firefox automatically updated itself (no choice) on my Intel Mac/Tiger 10.4.11. Can no longer use Firefox, so how do I get back the old one?

June 10 2012 Firefox automatically updated itself (no choice) on my Intel Mac/Tiger 10.4.11. I can no longer use Firefox. I have an old version of Firefox on my Mac G4, but am scared to use that machine in case that Firefox also automatically updates itself. How can I transfer a copy of that older version of Firefox (from the G4) to the Intel Mac, and how do I stop both versions from then automatically updating? How do I then remove the updated version of Firefox from the Intel Mac, which I cannot use? Thank you for your help.

esqki FF update to 13 and now you can't open ? sorry about that.
    1. Download (with your safari) a copy of the latest (3.6.28) from your 10.4.11 mac
    from
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.28/mac/
    2. '''Trash''' the current Firefox application to do a clean install.
    3. Install the version that you have downloaded (3.6.28).
Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder], so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.
see also: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-mac?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Installing+Firefox+on+Mac Installing Firefox on Mac]
after install the 3.6.28 version go to: Options > Advanced > Update tab > Firefox updates, check mark '''Never check for updates (not recommended: security risk)''', click Ok to save it, exit firefox and restart it.
