I need help securing my linksys wireless router with speed boosters. In august me and some friends took over this rented house, and with the house we got their old internett system, we use a linksys router, This nett is open for everyone, but we want to secure it for other users. We didnt get the manual and i've tried the guide on your site but it says it cant be changed. The old owners didnt either know what to do. Is there some help i can get with this? Is there some buttom i can push to reset it and then make it possible?
Connect your computer using wire to router. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser's address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name, if admin doesn't work reset router and do above step again. Go to wireless tab, here change wireless network name from linksys to any other name. Save the settings. Go to wireless security sub-tab here change security mode to WPA personal etc, and enter you secret key in passphrase/shared key, Save the settings.This secret key will be security key of your wireless network.

Did you purchase them on your iPad with the same Apple ID that you are using for iTunes on your iPhone and that iTunes on your Mac is sign into?

my ipod is not recognized by my latop and even not connecting to itunes. I also tried to connect to other laptop and it works. I think the problem is with the software, how to fix this? a big thanks.
Update: I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure? Help!! -

Open Safari and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar. Press return. A small box prompting you for a username and password will appear.
The default username and password for Linksys routers is "admin" On older Linksys routers leave the username blank and type "admin" for the password.
Once inside, it's very easy to change the password for the router. Best of luck! -
My friends MacBook connected easily to my wireless, but why not the ipod touch? When prompted for "Password" I enter the security key info and nothing, nadda....zip. The MacBook asks for the "Security Key" info not "Password", like the touch. What's the difference?
Click on the blue arrow to the right of the network name, if IP address starts with "169." ,restart your router. It should connect properly after your router reboots in a minute or two.

It sounds like you are unable to sync your device to iTunes because the device could not be recognized properly. I do not know if this is the guide you are referring to, but I would recommend the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot what is happening named:

I recently purchased an airport extreme to replace my older linksys wireless router. had a successful set up but can not get connected to the internet. for some reason, which I am sure is apparent to others, i am missing some needed info to connect to the dsl broadband modem that I have. would love some good tips.
Try this:
Turn off or remove power from the DSL model, the router, and your computer. Wait not less than one minute. Restore power to the modem and wait until the status lights indicate a connection to the ISP. Next, restore power to the router and wait until the status light shows connection to the modem. Last, turn on the computer. Check your Network preferences to be sure they are configured for a DHCP connection and that the router has received a valid IP address (not 169.xxx.xxx.xxx). -

New to this community, so I hope that my description is understandable. Plus, I've been reading with ernest, am totally confused and wish someone could just tell me "this is how you fix this: Step 1..." but it never seems to happen that way.
1. WRT54GS Wireless Router, (not sure of the version because my setup page says one thing and the bottom says different) was originally setup with a Gateway Desktop, longer than 5 yrs ago.
2. Currently the host computer is a Dell. We have 1 wireless laptop, 2 netbooks, 1 iPod, and 2 wireless printers in a home network.
The main problem is getting online (I never know how many devices will try to do something at the same time) with the router (keeps saying that the "Security" is Open"). I've tried to setup new networks, resulting in the same problem. Is it possible to just remove the Dell from the network or could the wireless laptop become the host computer? And could someone explain to me how to do that? The last time I tried to change the security on the router, (I believe that WEP is what the Dell set it at and I was trying to change it to a higher level), I got a notification that not all the devices were the same, security could not be changed. Where does it say "security is open" exactly? What page? Where? When?
Go to the setup page of the router. Wireless and Wireless Security. Post your current settings on those two pages. That will show how your wireless is configured.

I need help in setting up a wireless connection.
I have a 2005 iMac G5 and currently I am using a Qwest DSL Modem with a Belkin router.
Qwest suggested that I buy a new wireless modem/router. It may be the Motorola 3347 or another wireless modem. I am worried about security when on the internet and have read about changing the SSID password and use the WPA for encryption. All of this is a mystery to me.
Also, I would like to buy from Directv the Linksys wireless adapter to use on my HD-DVR receiver to get their “On Demand Movies.”
My question is, does my iMac G5 have all of the security I need to use a wireless modem, and with the Linksys adapter can I view my photos or DVD’s in iMovie wirelessly to my TV in the living room?
I am concerned about security with a wireless setup, but it seems that all of the new TV’s have the ability to have a wireless connection to the internet.
Any suggestions would help me.

Need help w/ my automatic car wash router
It's hard to explain but we have an automatic car wash that emails us nightly reports and also emails us when there is an issue with the machine. We have had it all set up for over 2 years. All worked fine until a few weeks ago. We can still get in it remotely and clear any issues or change settings but it will no longer send us emails. We have called the interenet 3 times. No help! We have put a new part in the machine itself..didn't work. could it be our router. I cannot get into our router to look at the settings. Any help would be appreciated.

Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6 is recommended.
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.

For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm and http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/ If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. Ensure modem is working well too. Bad modems are out there as well. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

Need help connecting to ISP through DSL/router

I need help configuring my intel solaris8 box to get to the internet. I have dsl going into a linksys router. my windows machine have no problem using the DNS servers from pacbell. i also have DNS setup on my novell server, but the solaris8 box still can't resolve anything. I can ping everyone on my segement, I can connect to my novell web server netscape navigator but can't resolve it's name, i have to use it's ip address. I can remote logon. I lloked for a resolv.conf file but can't find one, help!!!!
DannyEdit /etc/resolv.conf (it may not exist) with the following lines:
domain your.domain.name
nameserver your.primary.dns.ip
nameserver your.secondary.dns.ip
search your.domain.suffix
The last line is optional, but please do substitute those values for the ones that you use.
As far as a default route goes, just edit /etc/defaultrouter (may not exist) and put the ip of your default gw on a single line.
