There is nothing anybody on these user forums nor Apple can do - unless you can contact the previous owner (you haven't got any contact details for the person that you bought it from ?) and get them to remove the phone from their account then you won't be able to re-activate the phone

Need help activating my iPhone

Here's the deal:
I got a used iPhone that was previously owned and used from a family member, and now want to activate it myself. But when I connect it to my computer (its a Gateway, if that matters) it doesn't automatically go into the activation process and instead comes up with an error message reading: "This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started."
Anyone know how to fix this? Or do I need to contact At&t?

The Apple Mobile Device service is needed by iTunes to communicate with an iPod Touch or the iPhone.
If it is not starting, you can try enabling the Apple Mobile Device service as discussed in the "Verify iPhone Driver/Service Installation" section of this article:

In order to use the iPhone on a new account you may need to get a new SIM card from AT&T.

Okay. I would just restore the phone as new. Follow the instructions here. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5014 See if that helps. Restore as new, then try the new SIM. You could always try going into General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings. That should force the phone back to the activation section. If you are still having difficulties, you can check with Apple.

i need help activating my iphone 4s i no longer have a contract and i just reset it and i cant seem to use it at all.

Is the iPhone still locked to the carrier you used while under contract? If it has not been unlocked by that carrier you cannot use the iPhone with another cellular carrier. Make sure you are using a valid sim for that carrier.

Activation issues are almost always the result of a device that has been hacked or jailbroken. If that is the case, no support can be provided here.
The other possible issue is a device running the iOS7 Beta. If that is the case, and you are a developer, sign into the developers forums for assistance. If that is the case and you are not a developer, try google.

I looked at your post this morning and did not know enough to respond, other than to find out that links to iListen now go to newer, renamed software. Considering it's been nine hours with no response, I'm suspecting few people here have experience with that software. You could contact the current copmany that used to sell that package and see if they have any archived support info.
BTW: please check you entry for "Mac OS" in your profile. It says iOS, which cannot run on an iMac. iOS is the system for phone and iPads but can't run on Mac computers. Do "About this Mac" from the Apple menu and see what it says about the OS version. Should look like this:

I just bought iphone 4g and after using it for some time i became very sad as it has alot of problems that i want your help to solve them..first u should know that my iphone came with ios 4.2.1 and locked to vodafone and my 1st problem is when i connect iphone via wifi to my TP Link access point which is connected to Linksys router ,i can surf net for some time but suddenly iphone lose its net connection and then all web broswsers and even App store and itunes applications become not able to open any net page and all of them say that there is no internet connection although iphone is connected very well to acess point and iphone say that wifi signal strength is excellent and internet at this time is working very very well in other devices via wifi also like my laptop and nokia n95 phone and ar this time i have to switch wifi off in iphone and switch it on again to make it able to use wifi internet connection again and my 2nd problem is with bluetooth as when i try to connect iphone to bluetooth headset ,iphone keep saying Searching but it can not find any bluetooth device so i am very sorry for this long topic but as u see this device is full off bugs :((

First the bluetooth issue. Your headset or other bluetooth device needs to be 'discoverable'. You may need to press a sequence of buttons on the device to get it into this mode. If it has ever been paired to anything, it is probably not discoverable by default. This is normal. Consult the manual for your headset. Otherwise any yahoo on the street could connect to your headset.
As for the WiFi issue, I would check with the access point vendor to see if there is a firmware upgrade available. If my search results were accurate, this is a "Super G" access point, which means its implementation of 802.11G is somewhat non standard.
If a firmware update doesn't fix it, see if you can disable the 'Super G' feature and see how it works on 802.11G. Failing that, throttle it down to 802.11B as a test.
It's most likely a compatibility problem with your specific wireless access point.
