It means that it cannot locate the operating system.
You need to reinstall from the disks that came with the iMac and which the vendor is required to give you.

I don't think i migrated anything over, i had a bit of trouble restoring my accoun from a backup and never actually did.
My time mechine backups are currently on a hard drive adn the only way to access the data is to run StellarPhonixMacDataRecovery every time to accesss my data.
But thats an entirely other problem/ storey.
So if i press commmand R when it starts do i need my Mac OX Disc becuse i baught the newest version on MAC OX X from the app store.
The funny thing is , even tho there is a cirlce with a slash all the applictions in question that has this works fine like ical and address book, iuse them all the time.

Are you talking about restoring? A reset is:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

I got that message yesterday. I'm new at this so don't know if this is the correct solution but it worked for me. I reset my iPod by holding the 2 buttons down until the apple appears AND I restarted my computer. After that everything worked.

If a reset doesn't work, try and force iPad into Recovery Mode:
1. Turn off iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, slide to turn off.
2. Connect USB cable to computer
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

When an app is downloaded to an IPAD and below the icon it says waiting, what does that mean?

Try this.
Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it shouild resume the download.
If that doesn't work:
• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
• After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

Dashed circle movie icon. What does it mean?

What does this round "hollow" movie icon means?
The problem
The movie, which according to iTunes is present on the iPad, does not show on the Videos app on the iPad.
The backgound
I bouhgt a movie ("Amazonia") for my daughter on an iPad that did not sync its movies with iTunes.
I synced the iPad to add a few more movies from iTunes.
The new movies synced fine, "Amazonia" got transfered to my iTunes and got removed from the iPad.
I tried to move the movie back, and according to iTunes it is present in the iPad, but with a strange hollow icon besides it.
"Amazonia" cannot be seen in the Videos app on the iPad.
Notes
Even though I bought the movie, the store would allow me to buy it again. Why?

Top right corner, beside the power supply bar, ther is a padlock with a circle around it. What does this icon mean?

On my ipod touch, in the right hand corner, beside the power bar.... a padlock with a circle around it has come up. It doesn't change the actions of the ipod, but I'm just wondering what it means.

this meens that when you turn it landscape it wont turn. to fix this double click the home button then it will come up with the multi-screen options. Pull the bar to the left and there is a grey box with a circle and padlock in. Press this button and the sign will come off and you will be able to turn it landscape now. Hope this helps. This morning when I turned my macbook pro on, an alarm sound came from my computer and a thin, short line of light was flashing next to the pulsing light that did not come on. The pulser light has not come on at all today.

Blinking folder with question mark what does it mean?

Okay so my harddrive failed in my 13" Macbook I used to have a WD scorpio black 250 gb for a while. I upgraded to a WD scorpio black 500 gb 7500 rpm hard drive. Okay so I installed the harddrive and ran my friends startup disc to learn that grey face discs are specific to that computer. The start up disc ran fine (minus the error stating it could not install OSX because its specific to another computer) and I looked in disc utility after installing the new harddrive and it said verified. I lost my startup disc and did not have another one. Using a friends mac I created a bootable USB drive with mountain lion on it, I plug it in and it comes up and when I choose to start up on the harddrive a 0 with a line going throguh it appears. If I do not start up with the USB or my friends startup disc then a blinking folder with a question mark appears. So my question is what could the problem be if a startup disc runs on a new WD harddrive and says under disc utility that its verified but the 0 with a line through it appears after I try to boot it with a flash drive containing mountain lion? WHats the issue here im completely lost now

MacBook turns on but doesn't go to home screen, instead a folder icon with a question mark on it keeps flashing.

It means that your mac is unable to boot, try doing a safe boot http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455 first, if that does not work insert your OSX disc (the one that came with your mac) and boot to that, post back with a report.
Is your backup 'bootable' (Carbon Copy or SuperDuper) or non-'bootable' (Time Machine)
