Hi - I was updating the operating system on my I-Pod touch (to Ios 5). After the download finished an error message re my touch came up. The Ipod has frozen, with the apple icon and an empty bar on the screen. I can't hard reset. Help!

Hold down on the home and power buttons at the same time until the iPad shuts down and the Apple logo appears again.
You might need to connect to a PC running iTunes to restore if the update got corrupted and can't complete

You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

I had this problem also. Several times in fact. And it has not been any relation with sw update (Apple TV). I managed to fix this on a strange way. I drop off WiFi in iMac and joined back. Right after thatI tried to adjust Airplay settings, but I didn't manage. Reason was that my iMac didn't found any Airplay devices (?). After about 2-3 minutes iMac recognized my Apple TV. And also audio "posting" to Apple TV started to work.
So restart your WiFi connection on your iMac or MacBook Pro - it may help.

I did a system restore, trying to get rid of the new update (which I HATE), and now when I try to open iTunes, I get an error message telling me that "This version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language. Please run the English version." You can't change the language option unless you can open iTunes - and IT WON'T OPEN!!! What a piece of crap! If there existed an iTunes substitute, I would purchase it in a hot minute!

Strip it out and start again.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Have exactly the same problem with my wife's MacBook Air. After restaring in Restore mode and trying to repair the disk (Disk Utility showed errors in the verification), the system tells me to backup as much data as possible (how?), re-format the disk and restore backed-up files. Error comes up when "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required".
Original restart action was done due to software update requesting it, if I remember correctly, iTunes was updated.
I don't want to start a painful back-up procedure (although I do regular back-ups): how should I know, where iPhoto stores it's data or where my mails are (yes, still using local mail)? How can I access the data if I can't boot?

Same thing happend to my Girlfriend, you will have to connect to the computer and snyc with iTunes. Make sure you update your iTunes software. we had to click on "Restore iphone...". phone updated and she lost everything on phone , we then tried to get everything back and only thing we got was her apps . Since receiving a iOS software update (6.1.2) my iPad has frozen and only the iTunes icon and a usb cable show on screen. Try and turn off iPad/iPod and proceed to step 3 of Recovery Mode.
Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.
