Actually maintaing the master data also we can do in BI, then why we have to need MDM.
What is special purpose with mdm. please tell brefily,

In MDM we maintain only master data
The goal of MDM to make master data unique and accurate.
BI is used to analyze data from diverse source to support decision making. In BI transaction data are placed in a table named Fact table .This fact table or transaction data are connected to master data /dimension table using some foreign key. Example of different transactions data are :- Quantity sold, sales revenue .In BI /BW we can analyze transaction data i.e. we can calculate total quantity sold for a particular region .
There may be different sales representative for different region. And every sales representative have different and unique ID.
To calculate total quantity sold we have to do the following things
We have to select sales representative Id of the specified region.
Based on sales representative Id (which is master data) for a particular region and the summarized quantity sold by them we can get the total quantity sold for a particular region.
So this master data sales representative Id should be correct and unique based on which we will analyze transaction data otherwise the result would be wrong.
These sales representative ID is maintained in MDM.
Basic scenarios of MDM are
1)     Consolidation
2)     Harmonization
3)     Central master data management
MDM assures following things
u2022     Accuracy - Does my data adhere to defined formats and standards?
u2022     Validity - Does my data contain incorrect information?
u2022     Completeness - Does my data contain all the necessary information?
u2022     Consistency - Does my data contain contradicting or duplicate information?
SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) is a component of SAPu2019s Net Weaver product group and is used as a platform to consolidate, cleanse and synchronize a single version of the truth for master data within a heterogeneous application landscape.

How to set up replenishment or what must maintain in master data?

I seted up replenishment in master data but it was not available when the stock less than minimum. So I will set what and How to set it.

1) MAintain min. bin quantity and max bin quantity in WM2 view of material master.
2)Whenever the bin quantity will fall below the min. bin quantity system will propose for replenishment.
3) This is valid only for fixed bin so fixed bin needs to be maintained in WM2 view of material master.
4) Run LP21 and system will create a TR automatically

This happens for a specific employee.
There are two records in PA0001 table, but they are on a different date ranges, so this should be OK.
PA0001 table content:

I suppose this happens when PA30 before showing screen to a user tries to read info of users used in last usage of PA30.
Maybe clear of SAP GUI cache should help? (Do you know how to cleare GUI cache on user's desktop?)
Maybe field SPRPS ("Lock Indicator for HR Master Data Record") should not be empty for the second record of PA0001 table?
Anyone know any solution for that or OSS note?

To solve that I've run program RH_DELETE_USER_SETTINGS via se38 transaction. I've selected only first checkbox named: "Delete last object selection".
Now PA30 works fine.

PA30, attaching documents through the employee personal master data

We want to add documents to a pernr in PA30 via Extra -> assign original. We configured the archive link but it asks for "Bar Code Entry" when we want to add an document. In http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/d7/e2270b408e11d1896b0000e8322d00/content.htm they say However, it is also technically possible to store without a bar code (that is, you can use the "assign then store" scenario). But I don't find the information to do it. Please can somebody assist?

Updating the Master data Infoobjects attributes from the Portal

Dear All,
There is a requirement where through portal i want to retrive the master data infoobject ( based on the value seleceted for that infoobject by the user ) and its attributes in the portal , edit them and save them back so that the updated values goes back to BW master data infoobject data base tables and updates the value.
Eg . I have Natural Account master data infoobject in the BW with attributes fucntional area and expense center.Based on the user selection of any values for the Natural account lets say 01110 , then for 01110 natural account the portal should display the correspoding attributes values of fucntional area and expense center.Lets take this values as 10 , 20 respectively for fucntional area and expense center . What I want to do now is to change these attrbute values to 30 and 40 and I would like to save it back as the changed attribute values for that natural account for 01110 with new attribute values 30 & 40 respectively for fucntional area and expense center .
Is this possible through portal and BW?
Any idea on this would be appriciated.

this is a quite tough but not impossible requirement. Maintaining Master data is possible with Visual Composer and some function modules (at least that's one way I know). However it could be a bit complicated maintaining attributes Master data depending on your data model. This How might help getting familiar with this topic:

Maintain penalty costs in product master data via macro

Hi all,
I am trying to use the function MATLOC_SET to maintain the penalty cost (field Non. Del. Penalty) on SNP1 tab, but it didn't work.
Is it possible to use this function to update this field or I need to use an other function to do this?

Yes, it's possible to maintain product master data via macro by functions. In my case, I'm using MATLOC_SET and it's work fine... except for the penalty costs fields.

I can't use the MASSD to do this because the costs are calculated in the macro based on sku/location forecast. But call a custom program in the macro is a good idea. I only have a doubt... Is it possible to transfer the calculated values in the macro to the custom program? If it's possible, how can I do to call the custom program transferring these values?

The function MATLOC_SET works fine for other fields, only doesn't work to penalty costs fields...
I saw that the structures are different, but the help that provides by SAP not mention any restriction. So, I think there is some other specific function to update the costs and i tried the MATLOC_EXTRA_SET, but it updates only extra fields...
May be having another function to do this...

Error while deleting the Master data

Hi Friends,
i am getting the below error while deleting the data from a master data:-
The system is unable to delete all of the specified master data,because some of it is still in use. (See log:Object RSDMD, sub-object MD_DEL )
Do you want to delete the data records that are no longer in use?
Could you guide how should i proceed to delete the data.

If you are using master data in someother data targets u cant delete master data.So first you have to delete the data in data targets where this particual master data object is used, then remove the data in master data object.

Error while assigning infoobject to the read master data in rule type

I want to read the zwostd info object data from zemployee master infoobject attribute list. For that i have selected rule details of zwostd infoobject in transformation of info cube, then i am tring to select the read master data rule type. It is taking more time and then it displayed error like permitted time was exceeded. Could any one please give me the solution for this problem.

Sometimes directly typing the infoobject name in the field helps - otherwise it tries to fetch all the infoobjects available which is possibly why the time out occurs..?
Enter the Master Data infoobject directly and then you will get the fields assigned.
However my experience with read master data has been that whenever you change the master data IOBJ by way of adding / removing Nav Attributes / attributes etc - all the transformations using the read master data for the IOBJ that is being changed will get deactivated and it is a pain reactivating and transporting them again - particularly so when you are developing something on them and the changes are stuck across multiple requests ...
IMHO use a routine instead to do the same - it involves lesser maintenance. SAP is anyway going to run a similar SQL...

How to activate fields under origin tab in the asset master data

While creating asset master data under origin tab there are two fields in display mode . I am unable to change these fields . the fields are 1.) Asset purchase new. 2.) Purchase used. I want to check one of these two check boxes. But they are in display mode. How can i activate these two fields.
In asset master data screen layout also i didnot find these two fields under origin category . Pls advice

Is it normal that the DataSource field is blank when opening a master data

Is it normal that the DataSource field is blank when opening a master data which is also an InfoSouce in InfoSource page.
Just locate an InfoSource which is also a master data or data target where next to which is a green triangle picture icon in InfoSource page, open it, the top part (Commnication Structure) is automatically expended. Expend the lower part "Transfer_Structure/Transfer_Rules", find the DataSource field is blank. This only occurs for an InfoSource which is also a master data which have more than two data loads (e.g., one is attibute, and the other is text load) or there are two InfoPackage loads for this master data. We checked for master data with only one InfoPackage under it (e.g., only text load) and find it's OK that the datasource field is not blank when expending the lower section.

It's not common. If you have three Data Sources like attributes, texts and hierarchy by default attribute data source will appear on the screen and for the rest of the things we need to do dropdown and select. This is how in general it appears.

Gurus,
The SAP helpfile say we can re-organize the Master Data as following:
You can reorganize the dataset for texts and attributes belonging to a basic characteristic. The reorganization process finds and removes redundant data records in the attribute- and text- tables. This reduces the volume of data and improves performance.
But exactly how? How we do the Re-organize Master Data manually, not thru process chain.

We need to reorganize master data and texts to remove redundant data(ie multiple storage of the same logical data set), thus reducing the data voulume to be scanned during each read/insert/delete operations, thus imporving performance.

You can run the elementary test in RSRV, to check all SID tables S,X and Y tables are in sink with th master data tables.
You can delete master data that is not referenced by any transaction data
RSRV allows you to perform basic elementary tests on your master data objects and also allows you to perform correction in case the master data is corrupted.
