The iPod touch does not have GPS, so the location accuracy is greatly reduced. It relies on the known location of nearby WiFi networks. As WiFi networks can extend for 100m or so, the iPod could be anywhere within a 100m radius of whichever WiFi router it is connected to.

As indicated by the title, my brother has lost his ipod touch at his school. Is there any way to locate it remotely?
If the FindMyiPod feature was already turned on and wifi an and connected go to iCloud, sign in and go to FIndmyiPhone.
Otherwise you will have to find it the old fashioned way.
Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to school and police.

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). Follow these steps to restore your device:
1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
2. Connect your device to your computer.
3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
4. Select the Summary tab.
5. Select the Restore option.
6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up

If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:

My iPod touch was stolen.. and recovered.. but the kid that stole it cleared my iPod and "made it his own".. it has a password that makes me unable to use it. (He won't give up the password). I have tried to do the restore thru iTunes but the "note" from iTunes says it is unable to restore without the current password.. is there anyway around this... HELP !
You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it. If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone/iPod Touch is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.
If your carrier offers Blacklisting & they Blacklist the phone, it will be unusable as a phone.
If locked with a passcode, all a thief or whoever finds it has to do is force the phone into recovery mode & restore it. While this deletes all data on the phone, it also removes the passcode so the phone can then be used as a phone or touch. -
My grandson delted all data from his ipod touch {thinking he was deleting his songs.] Now all he gets when he turns it on is a gray screen with an apple logo. We do not have it backed up nor was it ever turned on to itunes. We purchased it used from a co worker and didnt get that far.. I am trying to take songs from my PC AND My Itunes account and send them to my husband's IPOD TOUCH First Generation BUT I don't want to change my whole ITUNES account that is already on my computer. Is his iPod usually synced to a different iTunes library/computer? If so, that would explain the message iTunes is giving you. An iPod is designed to sync with only one computer/iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it with a new library, the iPod's contents will be erased and replaced with what is in the newer/different iTunes library.
So if there is content you would like to add to his iPod, simply transfer it from your iTunes library to his.
