Hi, my iMac G5 is constantly restarting, help really appreciated!

Hi, I tried to update an iMac G5 (no iSight) from Tiger to Leopard and had to abort during the update.  It gave me the option to either reboot from the disc or from the hard drive; I chose the hard drive and now it seems to be stuck in a constant restarting cycle.  I have tried to start in safe mode and this has no effect.  Would really appreciate some help and advice. Thanks community!

does something here help? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1541

Thanks for advice, I dont have the osx disk available, is there a way i can still use Disk Utility ? There are only 2 usb devices connected (iphone / ext HD) so im not sure about issue with usb ?
Yes, restart the computer and when you hear the startup tone hold down the Option Key, then choose the Recovery Volume and run DIsk Utility from there.

  • Eligibility Profile for GSP - help really appreciated

    Hi there,
I am in the process of setting up grade ladders and I have a requirement where the employee needs to have been on their current grade for a period of 6 months to qualify for progression. I know I need to set up an eligibility profile stating this however I am unsure of how to implement this logic and would really appreciate some help.
    Many Thanks
    Kev

    Hi there,
Thanks so much for that. However the criteria I have need to implement is that we want to run the Participation Process: Grade Step process and pick up any employees who have been on their current grade for 6mths or longer. They can be progressed from any grade in the grade ladder to the next if they have been on their current grade for 6mths or more.
Any further help would be very greatly appreciated
    Many Thanks

You have added third party RAM to your computer. The first thing I would look at is that, many kernel panics are caused by RAM which can be:
Incorrect RAM (iMacs are extremely sensitive to this)
    Failed RAM
    Unseated RAM
Please removed the upgraded RAM that was added to the machine and then retest. If the machine works OK, that confirms it's a RAM issue.
On these forums the experienced users tend to all agree that RAM should come from a reputable supplier such as OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial.

Troubleshooting help needed:  My iMac keeps crashing and restarting with a notice: "Spinlock application timed out"  What can I do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Why does iPad 3 4G constantly restart after 8.3 update only when docked with iMac?

Why does iPad 3 4G constantly restart after 8.3 update only when docked with iMac?

That question is impossible to answer without more information. What troubleshooting steps have you performed? Did you try using another cable? Did you try using another USB port on the Mac? Did you reboot the Mac and reset the iPad? Have you tired restoring the iPad?

  • IMac won't complete restart after upgrade to 10.5.6

I recently ran Mac OS upgrade 10.5.6, but iMac won't complete restart. After the apple appears, script appears across screen and a box appears in the middle telling me to restart my computer by "holding power button until shut down, then press on/off button again to restart. Any suggestions to try before taking machine to Apple Store?

Thank you everyone. The correct answer was a kernel panic, and although the resolve kernel panic links above did not offer a successful solution, it was a correct diagnosis. Following the Apple Troubleshooting steps allowed me to determine that a faulty third party keyboard was the cause. Restarting with shift, restarting with 'x,' and restarting with ctrl-option-r-p did not solve the issue. Unplugging the keyboard and restarting did identify the keyboard as the culprit. Thank you all for your help.

  • Constantly Restarting Pearl

    Hi,
I am hoping someone can give me some help solving my problem. I have a Blackberry Pearl. Yesterday, it started to constantly restart itself. Some times it will run fine. Then it will shutoff, and just have a long slow pulsing of the red light. Then it will start to boot to the white screen and keep shutting off. Then eventually, it will start working again. Any ideas on what is going on?
Edit: Also, I think there is something funky going on with the trackball, when pressed, it acts like the 1 key was pressed. Any thoughts?

Here is a log I pulled from the device. This was after a crash. Hopefully, this might have something helpful.

  • BT Cloud constantly restarting after being updated

MY BT cloud app is now constantly restarting since it was updated a few days ago.
The only way to stop this is to enter Task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and end the task. I can then restart it and it all come up as it should for a few minutes then its back to constantly stopping and restarting.
Ive had to stop it from starting now when PC starts as it gets in the way of the normal PC use.
Ive saved teh programs logs so if someone wnats to see those Ill happily send them over
Hope there some help for this.
    Solved!

    Hi SummermoonUK and SueL,
I am sorry to hear that are having problems with BT Cloud. If you take a look at BT Cloud says "Could not connect to the service. Check your network connection" that should help with the issue.
    Thanks

  • Phone constantly restarting with ios5+

I upgraded to ios5 from 4.3.3 and my phone is constantly restarting itself every few minutes. I have tried to restore it and restore it in DFU, both from a back up and a new phone and nothing seems to fix it. I have also redownloaded ios5 to see if it was a dodgy download. The only way I can stop it is to turn wifi off altogether. This will make the phone stable but it still might restart once or twice a day. I was hoping 5.0.1 might fix something but that didnt change anything either.
Is anyone else having these problems or knows of a fix?

When you set up the new phone did you set it up as "restore from an icloud backup" or did you set up the phone as a "new phone" and then signed in with your apple id? If you chose "restore from an ic,oud backup" then there might be something wrong with your icloud backup. You can try restoring the phone as "erase all contents and settings" and when it asks you how you're setting up your phone you can chose "set up as new iphone" and then sign in with your apple id and you should get your contact synced over at least. You can then go to the itunes store and app store to manually download your purchases. Or you can plug in your old phone to your computer and use itunes to "back up to my computer" and once that is done you can plug in your new phone to your computer and use itunes to "restore from a bckup". Hopefully that is more helpful.
Also, what exactly did the Apple Store say as to why they "couldn't help you"?

  • 160 GB iPod constantly restarting

I hadn't updated the firmware on my iPod for a while since it's formatted for Windows but I use Mac. After installing it my iPod would just keep restarting. After two hours I unplugged it, restarted it, but nothing worked. I can put it in disk mode and the computer will see it then. All files seem to be intact so I don't think it's a harddrive problem.

Hi, sorry to "jack" this post in a way, but I'm having the same problems. My iPod 160G Classic is constantly restarting, and after I had only put a few text documents into the 'Notes' folder on the HDD. I am also using Linux (Ubuntu) instead of Mac, so is there any program that is compatible with Linux that can help with this problem?
EDIT: I'm new to Linux and such, I just installed it last night, but any help wil be greatly appreciated.
