  • I have an iPhone 5 that constantly shuts off after 5-10 minutes..

My iPhone 5, purchased on Amazon, used, constantly shuts off after 5-10 minutes of uptime right after a color fade. I got it to stay on but I just can't reboot it otherwise it'll happen again. But if I don't reboot it, my battery percentage will not update. I'm not sure if it's water damage or just a bad battery. I'm afraid to leave it charging overnight since the battery percentage doesn't budge and it'll just continue charging.

You should get it checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store and see if the battery needs to be replaced.
Did you check the moisture indicators to see if the device did get damaged by liquid?

  • Can't re-download any purchased apps//app store constantly shuts off in the middle of searches.

After iOS 6 update--cant redownload any previously purchased apps from app store. App store constantly shuts off when in the middle of searches.

It happens to me almost every time but if you hold the power/sleep button and the home button for about 10 seconds to do a hard reset it usually works for me. I have an iPod touch 4G with ios6.

  • Constantly shuts off while playing music

My 6th generation nano constantly shuts off while I am running and listening to music.  I have tried pressing the sleep button and turning off the shake to shuffle.  Please help!!

This is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure the white part of the headset is flush with the body of the Nano.

  • My iMac is constantly shutting off.

I am ready to chuck my iMac out the window! It has been constantly / randomly shutting off for at least 4 months. I have taken it in twice. Once they did a quick scan and nothing came up.  Took it home and for about 2 weeks it worked. Then it started again. I can be doing something like this where I am typing this question or not even touching it and it just shuts off. If I unplug the cord from the back of the monitor and wait approximately 10 minutes it will turn back on for a small while. Once it starts shutting off it does it a lot more. It is so frustrating when my daughters are trying to do their homework and can't just sit down and type a paper without it taking hours to get done. When I took it back in they had it for at least 3 days and it never shut off and all their tests showed nothing. i brought it home and it worked for about two weeks with no problem. They suggested I try a new outlet. I have tried three new outlets and it doesn't work. One person on the phone actually suggested that I try it at someone else's house. How obsured, what is the point if I can't use it at my house. I think it is possibly the cord is bad, they don't, but they are willing to switch it out, (hopefully without a cost), but I have to get back up there to the store to do this. My iMac is only a year and a half old. However, it won't be under warranty now. It is so frustrating to buy an expensive new computer to only have more problems then I have ever had with another computer. Also, you can't get any help without packing it up and heading into the store or it costing you money. I am definitely reconsidering ever buying a Mac product again. In addition, one day I realized I was missing 50,000 photos and I called for help and their expert was unable to help me, basically said they were gone and suggested a $100 software that may recover them.  Well, I managed to google and find out how to repair my iphoto library and got them all back.  It was my fault not having them all backed up, but ridiculous that they were gone when I had nothing to do with it. I think it was because the computer keeps randomly shutting off. Once I got them back, I ran out and got a external hard drive, but have yet to back them up because everytime I try to transfer them the computer shuts off and I have yet to get more than one folder done. Another reason I don't want to take my computer back in to be looked at. I really only use my computer to download my photos and read my emails. I am not downloading anything that should ruin my computer. Just wondering if anyone else out there is having these issues and if they have found a solution. Apple apparently seems to be clueless.

  • My Imac 27' screen is shutting off for no reason. The Imac is still running but the screen is black and stay like that. Is there anyone else with the same problem, and does somebody know what is this?

I had my Imac27' for about 1 year (I bought it january 2011) , and it worked fine. But two days ago a problem started. The screen is turning black suddently, and it stay like that until I reboot it. It's not cool. The first time it happen it was hafter a very long days of video editing, I tought it was to hot. But now I just started up the Imac and 10 minutes later it happen. And now  I transfer my desktop on my second screen, because the one of my Imac is constantly shutting of. What is this? Can I do something about that?

I´ve came across with the same problem and when I look out for solutions I found out that basically I had Three options
1.- Dim the brightness to the first 2 dots (that is the limit for me, anything above that shuts down again my screen)
2.- Replace an expensive part of the screen (about $900)
3.- Try with an external monitor to see if the problem was the screen or something else
What I did was to plug my flat screen to my mac with a Mini Display Port to VGA Adapter
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/B/mini-displayport-to-vga-adapter?fnode =51
And… Problem Solved! now Im going to buy a Monitor that gonna cost me less than half of the replacement parts, my main monitor will keep siting down if i dim it above the 2 dots but at least I will have the other to work properly
So that´s that, I hope someone finds this helpful
P.S. Sorry if my english it´s not that good

  • Old Topic, looking for newer answers....iMac (Late 08 model) shuts off

Hi all, I've posted this topic before but became really busy and was unable to troubleshoot this problem to the fullest. Long and short is that my iMac decides to shut off on it's own. I've ran the hardware test months ago with the code saying that the temperature control was messed up. I've since taken my iMac to an Apple service center where they have changed the display and the power source and I'm still having problems. I've surpassed the Apple warranty and was dumb enough to not get the AppleCare for this system.
A little more details, temperatures of core components (the ones that iStat Pro would show) seem to be normal. Nothing is over 120 F yet my CPU fan is spinning at nearly 4k rpm. For whatever reason, when this fan kicks in, the computer likes to shut off, even if temps aren't that high. Has anyone else experienced this? I know I'm going to either have get a new computer or face the bill for repair, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lastly, I've tried running the Hardware test before posting this and the dang test won't launch. I'm losing too much hair people, please help!

Ok, figured out the hardware code, it is: 4SNS/1/40000000: TpOP-131.000. Any takers?

  • IMac G5 non-isight shutting off randomly

My iMac g5 keeps shutting off randomly during use. I have a niMac G5, non-isight and it stays on for 30 mins, an hour, or 3 hours and then shuts off as if someone is pulling the power cord out.
Upon starting up, sometimes it doesn't make it to the login screen before shutting down again. It runs normal for a while, then it would randomly turn off. I have downloaded heat temp monitor programs and it seems to get to about 70 degrees celcius sometimes. Upon restarting, I get the "report problem to apple" screen with this information. I have tried to restart the power supply too.

The problem is a thermal one, somehow there's a malfunction and the computer shuts down because it's overheating. You should take it in and have the power supply looked at. You can also take the bgack off and check the capacitors to see if any of them is swollen or leaking.

  • Imac G5 PowerPC Display shuts off intermittently

I have a iMac G5 PowerPC 2.1 GHz running 10.4.11. A few weeks ago I started having this problem where the display shuts off intermittently (as if it was going into screen saver mode). If I move the mouse or press a key the display comes back after a few seconds. I've made sure that I turned off all screen saver settings. I have yet to determine if there is a pattern to this behavior. It happens every few minutes on some days and not for several hours sometimes.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help.

  • My iBook randomly shuts off HELP!!!!!

My iBook started to make a high pitched sound which I'm guessing was the fan. After about 15 seconds of that it shut down yet still continued to make that sound. Finally after about 30 more seconds of that it stopped, so I proceeded to turn my iBook back on. When booting it started up just fine, I signed in to my Admin account with no problems. After about 2-3 minutes of use it shut off again, but this time with no high pitched sound. Now every time that I try to turn my iBook back on it boots just fine, but continues to shut off after only a minute or two of use. What can I do to fix this????

    HI,
    Try Resetting the PMU
Might want to run the Apple Hardware Test also.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • New iMac 27", will just shuts off.

I recently just received the new 27" iMac. Have been using it for about 4 days. When I'm not using it, I normally let it run on screen saver mood for about 3 mins and then sleep mode after 15 minutes. However, after  the computer goes to sleep, I try to turn it back on, it won't start. I'm not sure if the computer is still asleep (and my keyboard/mouse) is unable to wake the computer up or the computer is off.. I then will try to turn it back on by using the on button but it will not start at all. I have to wait for about 5-10 mins to turn it back on and I have to press the button a few times before it does. Is this the same issue with the computer shutting itself off because of the computer overheating?
