Hi, my iMAC is running pretty hot since Apple upgraded the motherboard, it this normal^
Hi,
Since Apple changed my Motherboard and Hdd inside my iMAC running Windows 7 bootcamp, I find the case or the iMAC runs very hot compared to before...
Post actual temps and then we can tell, please use iStatPro which can be found at www.macupdate.com.

IMac 24" running very hot (just upgraded ram)
Hi
I just upgraded my RAM from 2gb to 4gb. While doing so I noticed a lot of dust where the RAM sticks go. I might be a bit paranoid but it seems like my iMac (late 2008) is, all of a sudden, running pretty hot, hotter than what I'm comfortable with.
Does anyone know if this may be because of the RAM upgrade? I'm not very tech savvy, sorry. No temp changes have nothing to do with RAM changes but dust can. If you did not vacuum out the dust then shut down, remove the RAM cover and vacuum the RAM area. In addition while you have the door open make sure the RAM is fully seated by pressing very firmly with both thumbs and double check to see you installed the right RAM. When you turn the machine on this is a good time to do a SMC reset too. Here are instructions for that:
_SMC RESET_
• Shut down the computer.
• Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
• Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
• Release the power button.
• Attach the computers power cable.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.

I am wondering if it will be a good move to install fusion 5 on my iMac. I am wondering since I did the split to run windows 7 if this means that I will have to erase all and start from the beginning
From what you say, I understand that you already installed Windows 7 on a second volume. Is this correct?
In that case, it doesn't make sense to use VMware Fusion unless you want to run Windows and OS X at the same time. If you do that, you will keep all your data.
If you haven't installed Windows 7 and you want to install it in VMware Fusion, you will be installing it in a virtual machine, so you won't lose anything.
I recommend you to have a look at VirtualBox first > http://www.virtualbox.org It's free and it's sufficient for most of users -

Ever since we upgraded the operating system on my iMac to OS X, Ilost the function of exporting photos directly into iPhoto from my email. What should I do?
Let Apple know you want this bug fixed:
http://www.apple.com/feedback
Workaround: drag the images from the email to the iPhoto icon on the dock. -
I've recently upgraded my system to Mountain Lion, trying to run XCode. I am having the following message: This installation of Xcode 4.2.1 requires Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Please advise. Thanks
I've come across the same thing, and went to the Mac App Store and downloaded and installed Xcode through that.
However, it seems to have put the new Xcode.app straight into the Applications folder, whereas before (v 4.2.1) was installed in Developer\Applications\Xcode.app. In fact, it still is!
How do I uninstall everything that belongs to Xcode 4.2.1 from my system, but leaving Xcode 4.4. It seems parts of the new Xcode (4.4) have been put into the \Developer\ folder as well, so it's not obvious what I would need to delete... Can anyone shed some light on this? -
Hi there, pls help since I upgraded the software to ios7 i have no more facetime neither in my contacts nor in settings... so i cannot activate it. anyone knows why this happened and how to fix it?thanks
Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure. -
When i use my macbook it gets hot on the bottom is this normal?
If you're talking about the "new" MacBook with retina display, it's normal (Especially when you're playing games or watching a movie) and like Stark_Hu said, it will start displaying the temperature warnings, slow the processor, and try to regain normal temperatures. I actually had that happen to me while I was playing the Sims 4 while having 3 Pages documents and 5 or so Safari pages open.
Now if you're talking about the Retina MacBook Pro, I would clean out the fan ports and everything because that doesn't seem too normal! -
When I plug my iPhone into my iMac via USB I can choose to "back up to this computer". On another sync to my iMac, can I choose to " back up to the iCloud"? This way I could restore all my info and settings from either source. Is this possible?
On the phone, under Settings > iCloud you can select to turn iCloud ON or OFF.
One iTunes, it senses that toggle and if you had selected iCloud it will say backup to iCloud. Here you can change the toggle to backup to computer and click "Apply" prior to syncing.
I do both for good measure. I backup to computer and then after i disengage the device from the computer, I set the iCloud toggle back to ON and then perform the iCloud backup over wifi.
I found that using iTunes and saying to backup to iCloud isn't always successful in the "last backed up" time and thus I do it separately. -

The iMac 2011 graphics card is now separated from the motherboard?
Hi,
Edit: Sorry on the new models you can remove the graphics card if thats what you mean , without changing the whole logic board, this is the same as older iMac models though, this is not new. -
IMac boot issues, panic report since Yosemite upgrade
I've been having serious issues getting my iMac to boot ever since upgrading to Yosemite - Basically it turns on, makes the chiming sound, goes to the white screen with the apple logo and progress bar and at about 1/3 of the way, goes blank white/black, then either reboots on a loop or freezes until I'm forced to manually shut it down.
When I boot in safe mode, I get this ProblemReport:

I have a late 2009, 27" iMac, 2.8 GHz, 8gb Ram - was running Mavericks, upgraded to Yosemite
Ive run disk utility and verified disk multiple times - on one occasion it said the HD was corrupt but successfully fixed and hasn't reappeared since.
I've also run the hardware test (hold down D as computer restarts) with no problems found
And the ram reset thing (hold down R when computer restarts)
Ive also reinstalled Yosemite and clean Installed it so my computer is now empty.
I've also taken out each piece of ram and tried booting with each individual piece (the same problem occurred with each piece)I am experiencing this same exact problem; however, I upgraded to Yosemite a couple of weeks ago and didn't experience any problems until this past Friday. The only other thing that's been done since then was installing some updated drivers for my daughter's Wacom Intuos Tablet. Everything was fine for a bit and then (as best we can tell), the video froze up on my son while he was using it and he walked away without shutting it down. We *think* it got overheated and appears to have resulted in the ATI Radeon HD 4850 now causing kernel panics during boot-up.
Symptoms:
On boot, the chime plays and apple logo appears and the progress bar begins to fill in until it gets about 1/4 of the way across.
After the progress bar gets about 1/4 of the way across, the screen goes gray/white, then black while the machine shuts down and re-starts
The machine starts back up and there is an error message (sometimes) that appears and says something went wrong during boot.
After a bit (or if I press a key), the whole cycle starts all over again with Step 1. above.
I've done the following, myself, to no avail:
Reset the SMC (unplug the power and all cables, wait 15-20 seconds and plug the power back in) - didn't help
Reset the NVRAM/PRAM - didn't help
Attempted to boot into Safe Mode - boots and then the display shifts to the left and has garbled/pixelated squares on the bottom right corner
Attempted to boot from the 10.6.2 DVD that came with the iMac when we purchased it back in November, 2011 - boots and then the entire display is pixelated/garbled
Ran the Apple Hardware Test (simple (5+ minutes) and extensive (1+ hours) - no problems found by either, but it didn't appear that the GPU was tested during this diagnostic
Verified that the EFI and SMC firmware is up to date with the latest for the iMac 11,1
Booted into the Recovery Partition (this is the only thing that has succeeded)
Recovery Mode: Ran the Disk Utilities to verify the 1TB HD - no issues with the disk or with permissions.
Recovery Mode: Created a .dmg of my entire 1TB Disk to a backup drive (No time machine backups...I know, bad practice on my part).
Recovery Mode: Attempted to re-install Mac OS X Yosemite - problem persists on reboot
Recovery Mode: Erased and Low-Level (1 pass) write of the entire 1TB partition on the HD and re-installed Mac OS X Yosemite - problem persists on reboot
When I attempt to boot into Safe Mode (Verbose: Command + Shift + V rather than Command + Shift), the messages scroll from the screen before I can catch what it's saying, but it appears to be stating that the machine is re-booting after a kernel panic due to display problems...which correlates with the garbled/pixelated display.
I've found a couple of other posts on here and they seem to point to the ATI Radeon HD 4850 and issues with it overheating and going tango uniform as well.
Basic Troubleshooting of Gray Screen Situations: Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup - Apple Support
Specific Troubleshooting and ATI Radeon Info: 09 27" iMac 2.66 grey garbled screen, no boot up 10.8.3. / Senior mods please
I've scheduled an appointment to take it into the Apple Store next Saturday (my first available) to have them verify my findings. I'm hoping and praying that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to repair/replace the GPU...can't really afford it right now.
At any rate, I hope this information is useful to you! -
My iMac is running slow. When searching in safari it freezes and I have to shut it down several times before it will search. Apps are running slow. What can I do to fix?

IMac 2008 running very slow after Mavericks upgrade
Hi everyone,
I upgraded to Mavericks not long after it was released and my machine has been struggling since. It's very slow for normal everyday computing - and I actually had to stop using certain programs, like Chrome. Chrome would get stuck just trying to load google - and I would get stuck with a spinning beach ball for upwards of 5 minutes. I've switched to Safari and that's helped - but when switching applications, the system still really struggles. It makes multi-tasking very challening.
I downloaded EtreCheck, could anyone help me out to interpret the results? Is there anything I can do to speed things up?
Thanks!

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

I'd love to get an imac but is there a way to upgrade the sound card?
I love the new imac's.. but I would need to upgrade the sound card if I got one. I have a recording studio and i'm using a delta 1010 pci card that is compatible with macs.. I can't see how it would work with an imac.. I'm also a graphic artist and use a mac for all my graphics but it's an old g4 that isn't exactly up to the task of running my studio as well.. I'm sick and tired of my crappy pc giving me grief in the studio and an imac seems like the perfect and affordable price for me.. (i definately need an intel mac so i can run boot camp or parrallels to run a few programs that aren't available on a mac... **** you adobe audition)
does any know if there's any way this will work or do i have to save my pennies for a g5 desktop? (i kinda hope not because it will take me a LONG time to do that)ahhh.. that's what i thought.. just was hoping I was wrong. Getting a new interface is NOT an option because I just got the system I have and am extremly happy with it... I used to work with a firepod but wasn't all that impressed... I like the 1010 because it gives me more options (mixing analogue and whatnot)
thank you very much for the advice

Outlook 2007 doesn't show the icloud service running in Windows 7 within outlook. Does anyone know what the dll for this service is so it can be manually added to outlook? I've installed the icloud control panel app and set it up to synch everything, but after initially downloading my icloud calendar, it won't process any calendar updates (new entries made on either iphone 4 on ios 5 or outlook).
So since the control panel installed, but the service doesn't show running in outlooks "trust center" add-ins list, anyone know the actual dll file it would point to so I can see if I can add it the hard way?I had the same issue and figured it out. First you have to start Outook as administrator. To do this, shift and right-click on outlook and click run as administrator. Next you need to enable Hard-disabled add-ins:
Hard-Disabled Add-Ins
Hard disabling can occur when an add-in causes the application to close unexpectedly. It might also occur on your development computer if you stop the debugger while the Startup event handler in your add-in is executing.
To re-enable an add-in
In the application, click the File tab.
Click the ApplicationName Options button.
In the categories pane, click Add-ins.
In the details pane, verify that the add-in appears in the Disabled Application Add-ins list. The Name column specifies the name of the assembly, and the Location column specifies the full path of the application manifest.
In the Manage box, click Disabled Items, and then click Go.
Select the add-in and click Enable.
Click Close.
Then you need to activate it.
To re-enable an add-in
In the application, click the File tab.
Click the ApplicationName Options button.
In the categories pane, click Add-ins.
In the details pane, verify that the add-in appears in the Inactive Application Add-ins list. The Name column specifies the name of the assembly, and the Location column specifies the full path of the application manifest.
In the Manage box, click COM Add-ins, and then click Go.
In the COM Add-Ins dialog box, select the check box next to the disabled add-in.
Click OK.

How do I activate iMessage?
Whether I try it from Settings or in the app it's the same: It wants my Apple ID to log in, then bounces back and says I need to do so again because my password or ID has changed. I do so again and it asks for an email address to use to message me. W
