If you don't have a backup then you won't be able to restore your content to it, but you might be able to re-download some/all of your purchases via the Purchases tabs in the iTunes and App Store apps, and the ibookstore in the iBooks app -
I changed my password and used the new computer, next time I tried to log in it wouldn't accept the password. I tried the old one as well but that doesn't work either. Can anyone help?
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu. Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

Be sure to open Keychain Access and repair the keychain:
Assuming that you are using a recent build of OS X, go to /Applications/Utilities and launch the app called Keychain Access. Go to the Window pulldown menu and select "Keychain First Aid". Enter your password, set the radio button to "Repair", and click "Start". -

You need to follow the instructions in the article you reference, restore using the recovery mode as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 which should also make iTunes see the iPad.

Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost. -
my daughter's itunes library is on a computer that now has a broken usb port. can she view her library and download from my computer? is so, how?
If you set up Home Sharing and are on the same network you can share your library. However you must be using the same itunes account. Another option (if you are trying to download to a device) would be to sync over Wi-Fi. I hhope this helps a bit. If you let me know what you are trying to accomplish I may be able to give a better answer

I forgot my pass phrase and do not have my wep number and I need to add another computer to my network. Any advice on how to proceed?
You should access the router through the connection you already have and either change the wep key or get the wep key from the router. If this is not possible you always have the option of connecting via wire and getting the key this way. However, I suggest using WPA encryption since WEP keys are easily exploited.

I am having the exact same problem with my itouch 16GB! I called apple support and was told that sometimes this problem happens when the computer is not hardwired into the internet but I did try that and it didn't help. I keep recieving a message that states that the file is "invalid or too long". Any suggestions??
