There is no way I would do the smc thing with a laptop that won't come on.

If it's new and you're anywhere near an Apple Store, take it in. If it's less than 14 days old you can exchange it. If it's more they'll repair it for you.

Did you purchase the Mac new?
You have 14 calendar days from the time your items are delivered to initiate a return as noted here.
Even though you are past the 14 day limit, if it were me, I'd take the Mac back and explain what's going on. Your Mac should work out of the box.

I am stumped I do not understand why my roommates macbook pro when duel screened will display perfectly on my monitor while mine refuses to, but mine will display perfectly when using another monitor that is not mine. Please help me out.

One day when using my duel display the second monitor decided it wouldn't display at full resolution in the middle of doing something i was confused. I use a mini display to hdmi then hdmi to the second monitor. I thought maybe the converter or cable died. I bought another another mini display to hdmi and tried another hdmi cord and the same issue. My roommate has macbook pro as well so i decided to see if it was the monitor, when i pluged the mini display converter into his and used the external monitor it displayed perfectly not below resolution. Doing this I knew it was not the monitor or the mini display to hdmi or the hdmi cable. I took it into the genuis bar assuming now that it was my grapics card or logic board. When the genuis went to duel screen it on a cinema display it displayed perfectly. So went home tried to duel screen it again and still not displaying at full resolution. That is where I am stuck, in summary:
My screen used to display perfect resolution on a second monitor and suddenly did not.
Tested two mini display to hdmi and hdmi cords both were fine.
Tested to see if monitor was issue but displayed perfectly when i used roommates laptop.
Went to genius bar and displayed perfectly on second monitor so it can display perfect resolution on apples monitors but will not do so anymore on my monitor, even though roommates macbook pro will display perfect resolution on my monitor.
I am beyond confused.

Apparently you have tried everything except - take the monitor in question to the Apple Store along with your computer. If it works there, the mystery continues.

TS1398 My ipod touch will not connect to our wifi all of a sudden. It has worked fine for 6 months and now just has stopped connecting. I have done all the trouble shooting tips available. Any other ideas?

We bought this itouch for our daughter for Christmas (2011), It has worked fine all this time until now. All of a sudden it will not connect to our home wi fi. All the other ipods/iphones/laptops and desktop are connecting fine so I know it is not the router itself. I have tried all the standard troubleshooting tips (forgetting the network and resetting it on the ipod, turning it off an on, plugging it in and updating the software, we even restored it completely from itunes as a new ipod). It lists the network as available but then when you try to connect it just sits there with the little circle icon thing spinning, trying to connect but never does.Please help!

So you also rebooted your router correct? Does the iPod still connect okay to other networks?

You can try contacting Apple and explain that you have been using Windows PCs that last only a few months before failing. Perhaps they will make an exception to the 12 month wait.

In a jspx page of an application there are some parent tabs.There is no pagedef file for that page. I created another page and copied whole of the source code of the other page. Those tabs are not present in this new page. What could be the reason? What should I do to bring the tabs?

Well, you see, it makes it so much harder for someone on this forum (who doesn't have access to these special bits) to try it out and see what you see.
In general, copying and pasting the source, together with any required page definition should work... having said that, we non-Oracle employees cannot comment on things such as those internal tag libraries. When you say the "global tabs," what component on your page generates those tabs?
About the only thing I can guess at this point is that you need to include the new page in your menu model in order for it to render correctly.

Try this for making an external USB/DVD copy of Recovery on an external disk. internet is still required for reinstall, though, I believe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848. But at least you have a separate Recovery Partition if you ever need a fully new and empty internal disk.
Your assumption is incorrect. Although he may not be able to download it from the App store he can download it directly for the Apple servers using the recovery partition on his original drive.
All you have to do is start the install routine and then point the install to an external hard drive. Once the download is finished the computer will reboot to start the install. At that reboot disconnect the external drive so the install can not start. Boot the computer back into the OS on the internal hard drive, which is what will happen automatically once the external drive is disconnected. Then connect the external and copy the files from it that were downloaded. Right click on that downloaded package file and select Show contents. In the contents of that package is a file called InstallESD.DMG. Copy that file out of the package and burn it down to a DVD or USB thumb drive and you now have the Full Lion Installer. I have several of them laying around on different hard drives and 2 USB thumb drives which I have used to reinstall Lion on my 15" MBP.

You mean take the cover off of the iPhone, to look inside? I'd recommend against it. Even with warranty expired, you might qualify for an out-of-warranty service, which for 3GS is $149.
Other than that, any repair/service options are going to cost money. You might want to see if a wireless carrier will let you get a new contract & phone.

If I open up the iTunes app and select "purchased > music > not on this iphone" it tells me "All of your available music has been downloaded to this device." However, my purchases are not yet downloaded to the iphone and not available to download. If I go to "purchased > music > all > recent purchases" it will show me the purchases that were most recent the last time I synced my phone, but not the purchases since then.
Any thoughts on how I can remedy this and make all of my purchased music available on my phone without requiring syncing?

Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

Had a bit of problem last time I started it with flashing screen, but it settled. After leaving it on screen went black (as usual) and on waking had desktop up but continued to flash. My battery got swollen (and I unfortunately noticed it very late and might have be running with it for months, which potentially explains all the crashes everyday and the trackpad not working anymore, the Apple test also says I have a bar of ram broken...) and I had to remove it because the back pannel did not close anymore... Can I still use my MBP normally forever that way? I was planning on buying a new mac anyway but maybe waiting for the next iMac upgrade in the year... Should I wait?

Other than the system shutting down instantly if you have a power outage, whcih could corrupt the OS. Nothing else bad will happen.

What does the message say, exactly?
Try this:
From the Finder's Go menu, choose Computer:
Double-click your hard disk icon. It is usually named "Macintosh HD":
Look for this folder:
If it appears in that window, drag it to the Trash.
