  • Computer Crash - If I Hook Up My IPOD again, will I loose all my songs?

My computer just crashed, and I lost all my documents in a user file, and all my songs on Itunes. If I hook up my Ipod to Itunes again, will I loose all my songs, or the songs stay in the Ipod?

You can a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
From here you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    TuneJack Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • I have had to update my iphone 4 through itunes and it has come up that itunes has found a iphone that is in recovery and needs to be restored, I cannot loose all my pics on my phone so need to know what I can do! My phone is not working now.

I have had to update my iphone 4 in itunes and it has now come up with a message, itunes has found a iphone in recovery and needs to restore it.
I dont want to do this as I cannot loose all my pics on my phone!
My phone is now not working and has an itunes symbol on it with a usb cord!!!!
    Please help!!

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, try this a few times if necessary. If still problem, you may have to just Restore your iPhone to get it working. In the future sync your iPhone with iTunes routinely and when it contains important data, iCloud when set correctly will do this for you continuously.

  • Win 32 and win 64 bit, tried to download itunes and nothing happens

I am massively frustrated. I have tried to download the new version of iTunes about 20 times. When I download 32 bit ( I have win7) it says I need to download the 64 bit! When I download the 64 bit, it says it not compatible. I have completely uninstalled the previous versions as per your support pages and removed temp files. Now I have no iTunes, I cannot download it and I have a new iPod shuffle which I cannot use. When I had iTunes 9, it could not find it anyway.
So what the HECK will I do now? Nothing works and whenever I try to download iTunes, it crashes half way anyway.

I use mobile broadband, that I get credit of data per month. It connects through a dongle with a mobile phone SIM card.
Ahhhhhh ... you might be getting "the Australian problem". Downloads do seem to get damaged reasonably often going through those (and for some as-yet-unknown-reason, it seems to be unusually common in Australia by comparison with other countries).
Okay ... generally if we can get an undamaged installer onto the PC, it will install okay. So, try downloading an installer on a different PC. Copy it to a memory stick, flash drive, thumb drive or other external hard drive (or perhaps even burn it to a CD-R). Carry it back to your PC, copy it to your hard drive and doubleclick the installer to start the install.
Does that one go through okay, demodia?

  • My iPod Nano 7th has a strange blue tint in the top right corner, Help Please?

I just recently was givin my step dad's ipod nano. When it was givin to me it was in great shape. Not a scratch or any cosmetics ware and only a couple of songs. Over the past week, i have used it casualy. About Tuesday, the top left corner was white. It went away the next day. Then Thursday, the top right corner turned blue and has gon from better to worse randomly.
    Please Help

Well, shut my mouth!  There was a similar question over to the right about a 6th generation nano repeating over and over again -- I read the answer to that one, followed the instructions, and holy crap, it's back to normal.
Is there a name for this when you end up replying to your own aggravating question?  That's what I did.  Now I can go out and listen.  It's only 91 degrees.  Heaven. Thanks, Apple.

  • I tried to open my iPod but it's stuck at the Apple sign!! I need help, please :(

HELP! I opened my iPod and it had the usual Apple sign. A few minutes later, it was still there. After about ten minutes, it went all white, then black, and then the Apple sign came back. Since then, it has done it a few times again, like a cycle. Please help me get it fixed because I really need it. Thanks to whoever helps me (:

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I plugged in my new iPhone4 and it thought it was my husband's so it made my phone mirror his and I lost everything! Can I undo and restore it back to mine??

I don't know what really happened but it said Restoring to Jeff's phone and now my stuff is all gone! Help!

    No.
The first time you connect a new iPhone to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone to the new iPhone, or set up the new iPhone as a new iPhone. The former does exatly as provided - the backup for the other iPhone is transferred to the new iPhone replacing all data on the new iPhone with the data included with the backup for the other iPhone.

  • My iPod nano will not put the pictures i want on my iPod. Help!

Ok, so i connect my iPod to my computer, and i select the files with the photos i want in them. From there i click apply, and it will say its syncing, and about 2 or 3 minutes later, it says it is done, but the pictures are not there? How do i fix this?

Plug it into power (a wall charger is best) let it charge for at least 30 minutes then Reset it while it is connected to power. May take several tries.

  • My daughter was trying to update her itouch and somehow lost everything on it.  She had a different ipod before this one, and I think we never registered this one, so it seems the computer restored her itouch to what was on her previos ipod. Any ideas?

My daughter was trying to update her itouch and somehow lost everything on it, but itunes seems to have restored it back to what was on an older ipod she used to have.  I don't think we ever registered her itouch, and I know she didn't back it up to the computer.  Any chance of getting her stuff back?  She lost hundreds of pictures.

    - You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - On the computer go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backup of her iPod.
Note that the backup does not included synced media like apps and music.
    - Is she update the iPod via iTunes on other then the computer she syncs with the media on the iPod gets erased. Same for if on the syncing computer if the media was not in the iTunes library.

I recently had my computer redone and had to redownload itunes on my computer and when I synced my ipod none of my music went into my library.  How do I get my music that is on my ipod into my library on itunes?

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone .  The exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases
