Hi. New iPad Air for Xmas. Intermittent issues with Safari closing suddenly or just suddenly opening App Store on a second tab. HELP!

Hi
There is an intermittent issue with either Safari just closing suddenly (looking at other discussions, believe this is to do with the RAM - wish this had been mentioned in at least one review of iPad Air I investigated before purchasing) however the most irritating issue is this constant 'jumping' from whatever I'm reading to the App Store which has been just automatically opened on another tab.. App Store is either showing William Hill app (never looked at or downloaded this) or on some occasions, some random game app which again, I've never looked at or downloaded... (I've checked the pages I've been reading & none of these are pop-ups or ads on these pages either...)
Any ideas?

I have this issue too. I don't think it's a problem with anyone's iPad or iPhone, it's internet advertisers who have worked out how to automatically trigger sending a person to the App Store just by loading a web page. I've seen William Hill and various games come through on the App Store with this technique.
This could mean Apple have no protection in Safari for preventing redirects to the App Store without a user specifically triggering it (like the way pop-ups used to happen before pop-up blockers were invented). Although I suspect that Apple wouldn't be that blasé about that sort of thing. More likely I think is the advertisers are binding a page event like onscroll which shouldn't allow this but was perhaps overlooked by Safari's developers. Apple need to make an update to Safari to prevent anything but ontap/onclick events from opening the App Store.
You should perhaps consider banning apps on the App Store using this advertising technique. They'd soon start behaving if they thought their app could be de-listed!!!

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
    I have bought new iPad air for the new app I book apple charged 1$. On the web sit it's say free .
    If you have recently created a new iTunes account, the $1 charge will most likely be for account verification. The money will be refunded shortly.
    I bought a brand new mac and follow through setting up process with my apple id but when I open App Store I don't see lion into the purchases list. why?
    Updates come through Software Update not the App Store. If you have to reinstall Lion that is done via Internet Recovery.
    OS X Lion- About Lion Recovery
    OS X Lion- Run Software Update to use Lion Internet Recovery
    Lion maintenance and recovery operate via the Recovery HD. It's possible to create a separate recovery disk on a flash drive using OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant.
    To boot into the Recovery HD:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
  • New iPad air 2, numbers not compatible with iphone
    I have just upgraded my iPad first generation to a new iPad Air.2. I have a problem with numbers spreadsheets which I access using my iPad and iPhone via iCloud. The iPhone is a 3GS with ios6 and the latest version of Numbers it will load is version 2. The new iPad air comes loaded with Numbers version 3.
    If I amend a spreadsheet with the iPad then I cannot open it with the iPhone. I have been on apple chat and they say I cannot downgrade the numbers app to version 2 on the iPad. Only solution they can come up with is to buy a later iPhone.
    my question is
    Apple say that numbers version 2 cannot be put on the iPad air. Does anyone know if there is a way of putting an old version of Numbers or iWork's on a new iPad.
    any help would be appreciated
    I have tried using the free app iSpreadsheet. It loaded Ok on iPhone 3gs and new iPad and appeared to sync via iCloud but I did not fully check this. The main problem is that the spreadsheet is limited to 50 rows so is no good for me.
    Work around I am going with is to upload spreadsheet from new iPad to Dropbox in exel format. Then download from dropbox to Adobe reader on iPhon. I have found that Adobe reader is quicker reading the exel format file than converting it to PDFs. Seems odd that a pdf reader is better at reading xls files than pdf files but there you go.
    i have not mentioned in the above but I have a Mac with numbers version 2 also linked to iCloud. This cannot be upgraded to numbers version 3 without an upgrade to the operating system. I also have excel on the Mac so I am going to look at putting the free exel app on the new iPad so that at least I can sync it with the Mac.
    the annoying thing about this is that
  • My wife and I have new IPad Airs. I was able to download and use the NY Time Crossword app, but can't get it to download on hers. It shows as "purchased" but does not appear as an icon on her home page, but is on her purchased page. Any ideas?
    Can't get NYTimes Crossword app to download onto my wife's IPad Air. It shows as "purchased" but when trying to download with the Cloud icon, it just circles for a while, then stops. The app works fine on my IPad. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage.   There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
    I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.
  • HT5622 App store on Ipad asks for wrong ID when downloading, The correct one is entered in the App store in my settings. How do I get the app storeto let me download??
    On Ipad the app store asks for the wrong ID when I try to downlaod or update an app. But the correct ID and password are entered in the Settings for App store on the same Ipad. I have re-entered them, but I still get wrong one requested. Any suggestions??
    apps are forwever linked to the ID that was used to downlaod them.  I suggest you delete the apps that ask for the old ID and download them again with your current ID
  • Mac Air vs. iPad Air for a college student with writing courses.
    Along with the occasional short story, I enjoy taking photos and editing them. Also need an HP Photo printer that has AirPrint. Any suggestions?
    Note: Check to make sure you can format your documents how you like.  Footnoting tends to have limited fixiblity.  Some profs my not accept these limitations.
    Check around and see if you might be missing common apps.  Some online learning course have not been updated to support mobile devices.
    In a local college library I have noticed that the students have made a rapid move to the Mac platform from 20% to 70%.  I do not see many tablets.
  • Issue with Safari closing down mid use - iPad 1
    I have an iPad 1 wifi (not 3G) 64gb and it has all latest updates via iTunes, even done a restore recently but my safari keeps closing down mid use, all the time now. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    That is usually a symptom of too much stuff open.  Try this, and if it works, make it a regular part of your day.
    Doulbe tap the home key to see the task bar.  Touch and hold any of those icons until they jiggle, then delete them by touching the minus sign.
    Do a reboot.  Push and hold the home and sleep button until the apple logo appears.  Ignore the red slider.
    You also might go to settings, safari, and clear histiry, and cookies.
    The operating system is supposed to close off apps if the memory is needed for the active program, but sometimes that does not as well as it should.  If you are opening a lot of safari pages, or doing some memory intensive stuff, it simply gets overloaded and closes down.
    Battery on new iPad Air running down really quickly with all apps closed down and whilst asleep- any ideas?
    Hello, juliefromaltrincham.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    I would check to make sure Rotation Lock is not engaged.  The article below will walk you through that process and has some helpful troubleshooting steps if that does not resolve the issue.  In regard to your battery concerns, I would need more information regarding usage patterns and how you connect to a data network.  The best option for that would be to contact us here.
  • HT2589 My new ipad air will not download apps or ask for my itunes account info when I do try to download or purchase an app.
    Just added the new ipad air to my itunes account. When I go to purchase or download apps it will not ask for my itunes account info, a grey box appears on my main screen with "waiting" under it and in the "app store" it will show the app that i chose with a constant spinning circle. Any ideas?
    The iCloud account has nothing to do with downloading apps over wireless, but if you do not have an iCloud account you can delete that account information if you want to do so.  Do you have other use of WiFi with the iPad?  It is connecting and working correctly for email and such?
    You could try going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and then re-select the WiFi network and enter the password again...then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
    All of that may clear problems of a minor nature.
  • I have a new ipad air, and the notes app does not work right.  I write a note and it will keep it for several days, or weeks and then I go back to it later and it has disappeared.  This has happened several times.  Any ideas why?
    I have a new ipad air and am having trouble with the "notes" app.  When I write a note to keep, it will stay there for a few days or a week, and then it disappears.  This has happened several times.  Can anyone suggest why this is happening and how to fix it?
    Ok. I disabled hardware acceleration. The only extension is the McAfee Scriptscan for Firefox 15.1.0, which was already disabled. I then disabled all plugins (Acrobat, Google Update, Intel Identity Protection (2x), Java Deployment Toolkit, Java Platform, MS Office 2013, Quicktime, Shockwave, Silverlight), which were all up to date.
    Normal or safe mode still has same result. No startup, no option button and no customize.
    Thanks for your help. Got any other suggestions?
