Hi performance audio amp to match Audigy 2ZS noteb
The audio-out performance of 2ZS notebook seems to be reasonable impressi've from an audiophile point of viewfrom bottom of 2ZS notebook retail box
?S/N: 04 db?Freq. Resp: 0 Hz to 46 kHz (2 V output)?THD + Noise:? 0.006%? (2 V output)?I have some high quality recording gear (good mic .. high-quality low noise mic preamp etc..) and can record high-quality 24 bit/ 96 kHz WAV. So, I'd like to get suggestions on a real Hi-Fi *Stereo* (not multichannel) low power analog amp (say < 20 Watts RMS/side) which is a reasonable match to the above sound-card specs. I have a Gigaworks S750 system and it is spec'd at:?S/N: 99 dB?Freq. Resp:? 25 Hz to 40 kHz?THD: 0. %?but I want a smaller system with better specs ... (even 0 Watts per side but super-clean would be fine). I don't want to spend $$$ on a top-flight pure audiophile system but something of high-quality.
I recently bought a NAD 902 power amplifier (and a 92). Details are [url="http://207.228.230.23/info/NAD_902.pdf">here[/url] [PDF]. I havent tried driving the S750 satellites with it thought. I have tried driving the S750 sub, seems to work ok although really needed both in bridged mode (90w rms each) to do it well. Unfortunately I dont have a decent crossover to try it properly, I was using the sound blaster as a cheap one.
It sounds like you have already found a 0w amplifier? I will give the satellites a go on this anyway soon. I can tell you the nad is far (so far you wouldnt believe) better than the goodmans integrated amp i was using before (due to lack of cash).

Midi/audio sync prob after sblive to audigy 2zs upgrade
Have posted the following earlier today in Soundblaster forum - then thought it may be better off here.....
Hi all - have just had to quickly buy new soundcard as main line-out on sblive gave up the ghost, after years of no probs. Bought Audigy 2zs, as thought this would not be too much of a shock for ageing AMDk6 450mhz running Win98se. (Am waiting for new pc music system.) Installed Audigy, using 1xm1n's excellent set-up guide, and thought everything was ok. However, when running sequencer, the midi tracks are fine, while the audio slowly goes out of sync. Can anybody explain what's happening? Would not normally panic, and wait for new pc, but have a deadline to finish project for the Barmy Army !!
Seriously thinking of reinstalling sblive, and using the rear line-outs to monitor on - but line-in & mic will then not work. Also was hoping the Audigy ASIO drivers would let me do the final mix in Cubase.
Did I mention the odd crackle & pop....? .....Aaaaaaargh!!
Regards.Jason,
Yes I tried pulling card. What has happened.
. Card was "re-found" by windows for no reason which started the problems.
2. I deleted driver in control panel, shutdown and pulled card, rebooted again with no card.
3. Put the card back and rebooted again and at that point it showed as Audigy ZS, although it did not look like all functionality was there as before.
4. So I installed the new January 06 drivers. Seemed to go okay.
5. Upon reboot, came up as Creative Audigy Audio Processor" again. However things "worked" for a while. The mixer came up, etc.
6. Seemed to be working, then stopped working (no sound)....and upon a reboot, was re-found again and was using old generic drivers from 2003. And was no longer called a ZS.
7. EDIT: Important, in the "sound and audio" devices in control panel, it is listed as an EMU0k (or some such designation) which I understand may mean the card has gone bad.
8. The network fiber connection also periodically came up as yellow exclamation mark or working based on what was going on above.
It appears that these problems may be symptoms the card is going bad based on some other posts I found? Something about a scrambled EPROM? I do have a new unused Audigy ZS card I can try.
What is the best approach to put in another ZS. Delete the driver, shutdown, pull the card and put the new one in? And of course plug in the breakout box to it. Will it "find" the new January 06 drivers upon install or will I have to re-install those again on this new card. I know it is the same card but I assume the ID will be different.
If I need to re-install the drivers, do I just re-run the install or do I need to run CTZAP etc. first? I already have all the applications loaded off the original CD and would prefer not to have to do all that again...
Thanks again,
BJB

Audigy 2Zs No System Sound, No Audio Card So
About a month ago I ugraded to the latest drivers for audigy 2ZS and everything ran smoothly until now. I can't understand all of a suden have no sound at all. Checked everything is connected properly. My os is windows vista. Please help. I tried google to find and answer but not luck.
Well to upgrade to beta driver is never a good thing to do . If you have system restore go back in time to before the new drivers were installed . If that does not work uninstall the new drivers and install the old drivers again .Good Luck :smileyvery-happy:

Hey CL, Audigy 2ZS need beta drivers/Crackling problem fixed t
 Owners of Audigy 2ZS need beta driver and or fix for the crackling and popping audio problems to. My system is: ASUS A8V with latest official BIOS, ATI x850 Pro, WD SATA 250GHD, AMD A64 3700, 2x52 twinx Corsair matched memory, Antech true power 2.0, 500 Watts. I have all the latest drivers and I am running XP pro SP2. I to have the bad audio when playing games such as BF2, COD2 and UT2004. I also have bad audio when playing music through WINAMP and surfing the internet. I have no IRQ conflicts and have the beta drivers for the Audigy installed. I can reduce/eliminate the amount of popping/crackling by going into my BIOS, then save and exit.Message Edited by Dirty_Harry on 06-07-2006 09:55 AM
No it does not, as long as you do as follows: (Instructions are copied over from my previous posts on the subject)
How to manually change the Windows HAL:
Use the following command: "expand d:\i386\halacpi.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll"
Whereas: <EM>d:</EM> is your CD-ROM letter, or where you Windows XP Installation resides.
halacpi.dl_ can be any of the following depending on what you want to install:
"Standard PC", Non-ACPI PIC HAL (<EM>Hal.dll</EM>)</LI>
"MPS Uniprocessor PC", Non-ACPI APIC UP HAL (<EM>Halapic.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"MPS Multiprocessor PC", Non-ACPI APIC MP HAL (<EM>Halm
ps.
dl_</EM>)</LI>
"Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC", ACPI PIC HAL (<EM>Halacpi.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"ACPI Uniprocessor PC", ACPI APIC UP HAL (<EM>Halaacpi.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"ACPI Multiprocessor PC", ACPI APIC MP HAL (<EM>Halmacpi.dl_</EM>)
</LI>
Offcourse, the HAL you should change to is Standard PC. You will lose Dual Core or HT support in the process, but I strongly believe it can help. As per above, you can switch back to your previous HAL without reinstalling. You will be most prolably asked for the drivers of your devices, but on my setup, it didn't, as they were already stored in Windows' System Folders. -

Thanks for your reply
I am sorry for the problem you are facing.
To achieve outputs from all the speaker during speaker test, you will need to have an analog connection, or digital DIN connection.
That will be possible if you connect the three line out jacks on your soundcard, to the three audio input (analog jacks->green,black,orange) on your speaker, if it has this connection. Or, you may connect them using Digital DIN, if they have this connection.
If you are using digital connection (coaxial, optical), there will be no way to achieve sound output from all the speakers during 5. speaker test, as they carry stereo signal.

Hello
Your email was helpful, unfortunately, not for my unit, you see I would
have
connected the Jack leads in by now if the inspire had Jack lead inputs
as
you describe
Please don't think I am being sarcastic, but from reading the
correspondence
below it would seem as if your department is having difficulty
understanding
my problem.
Also it would seem your department doesn't have the necessary technical
information on your very own product, so to help with your dilemma I
have
taken photos of the input/outputs on the Inspire unit.
You will clearly see the inspire has no inputs other than Coaxial and
Optic.
This leaves me back to my last post. I think the solution would be for
me to
purchase the correct processor, which would have come with the original
sound card had I not been a little tight on the money front.
I have attached a photo of the sound card with the processor, I would
love
to buy this processor but find myself unable to locate this product on
your

item so I can buy this Processor Please?

Thanks for your reply
Your soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS
Your speaker is Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500
You will need to have a 3:3 cable(with the color green, black, orange)
to connect your soundcard to your speaker, to achieve the 5. effects
with games.
Below is the connection:
- Connect line out jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Front' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the green color
connection
- Connect line out 2 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Rear' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the black color
connection
- Connect line out 3 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Center/Subwoofer' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the
orange color connection
Once you have done the correct connection, play the game DOOM3.
Ensure you have selected either the EAX or surround option in the game
settings.
Does it work?

You have lost me. Your sound card clearly states that I can have EAX
surround decoding from the sound card I have purchased.
All of the games on your web site claim to give me an environmental
effect
that will blow my mind, hence EAX.
All I have done wrong is NOT buying your decoder that comes with the
sound
card. My mistake.
All I want to do is re-address this issue and buy the correct
decoder/processor.
Can you point me to the correct link on your web site so I can buy the
correct decoder/processor?
As for the PCM out of the above cables, this foxes me as my other
equipment
only use Optical cabling on my Lexicon processor and from that I have DD
7., DTS 7. and meridian 5. lossless.
My issue is more to do with NO EAX from the rear and centre channels
while
in-game.

Dear Martin
Thanks for your reply
All commercial digital connection eg. optical or coaxial cable will only
carry PCM stereo signal. If you want to output the signal to a surround
5. with extra EAX environment effects, it will not be possible at all
since it is only restricted to stereo channel signal.
As per current industry limitations, we are bound to follow the standard
one-signal output for all our SPDIF and Optical output jacks. This is
something that is currently shared by all vendors for all products.
Please note that all games are not dolby digital, even they are , it
will require certain motherboard to encode it to dolby digital signal,
which our soundcard does not support.
You can only use analog connections to gain true 5. surround for
gaming..

Dear Martin
Thank you for the reply.
Computer games written with support for 3D audio do not require a Dolby
Digital Interacti've Content Encoder (DICE) to output multichannel sound,
with no exceptions. Sound devices that support the real time encoder
technology from Dolby will simply receive the multichannel wave file
output and encode it in real time to a somewhat modified Dolby Digital
bitstream. Creative does not support the Dolby Digital Interacti've
Content Encoder on any of its sound cards.
The only difference between a Sound Blaster card and an audio card that
has a real time encoder, is that you can make a one-wire, digital
connection from your audio card to your home theater receiver and enjoy
discrete multichannel sound from the game. However there will be a
continuous, slight delay, known as "latency", as the encoder is creating
and transmitting the bitstream, and of course the compression scheme
being used is "lossy" (i.e. not bit-accurate).
If you want to enjoy 3D audio in 3D enabled PC games in multichannel
surround sound with a Sound Blaster card, it is recommended that you
connect the analog outputs of the sound card directly to the analog
inputs of the receiver. This will require 3 cables for 5. surround
sound, one for front right and left, one for rear left and right, and
another one for front center and subwoofer. Though it requires more
cables than a real time encoder system, it will not have any latency
issues. When connecting PC audio to a home theater receiver, Creative's
latest sound cards such as Sound Blaster Audigy, Sound Blaster Audigy 2
are likely to provide higher quality audio than any Dolby Digital real
time encode system available for the PC today.

Hi

listen in stereo.
No, inspire 5500 does not automatically switch while "in-game" when DD

me
think the DD stream isn't getting to the processor.
I originally thought I could put all this to rest if I could buy the

money, but every time I search your accessories site I get completely
lost,
it really isn't user friendly, the sub-menus are very time consuming and
point you in the wrong direction because they are not categorised as Joe

I downloaded your TEST Movies and creative demo player utility, ran it

still no EAX HD or DD if that were present.
I want to put this card and Processor into my boys computer (which is
the
same Spec as mine and I will update to the FX series, but I am unwilling

I cannot find a logical reason why this set-up cannot work first.
Would it have anything to do with the pins on the Digital out on the

sending
certain channels down to the processor?

Your speakers are fine as you mentioned that there is sound from all the

May i know what game are you playing when there are no sound from the
rear speakers?
Have you done the appropriate settings in the game to achieve the 5.

Is there any game patches that you will need to update?
Does the Dolby Digital LED light up when you are playing the game?

Problems transferring music from turntable to computer with Audigy 2ZS Plse He
I originally had Sound Blaster PC28. I have installed last year Audigy 2ZS with 6 analog plugs and updated regularly. Everything is fine from burning to playing music of any format allowed. However, last week I tried to transfer vinyl music to my computer using Sony Sound Forge Version 8 and nothing works. Here's what I did. Luxman Turntable connected with ground to LINE IN ( in DENON amp ) and in the AUX output I have 2 Monster cables boing to my computer twinned on goldplaited /8 jack which is connected to the second (from right) LINE IN in the sound card. This done while referring to Manual & Getting Started Demo Creative program in the software. NO SOUND AT ALL COMES IN the computer - while the music is playing qell on my audio system player. I've done all kind of adjustment with the Microsoft Volume Play & Recording Controls and with Creative Mixer.
I can only distinguish on Sony Sound Forge two volume bars that there is some faint connection fluttering . I still tried to record but upon playback, there is no visual waving lines illustrated in SoundForge window nor sound played back. I expected that. What am I doing wrong or is Audigy 2ZS not suitable for such ? FYI, I tried the other5 jacks on the sound car ( adjusting to WHAT U HEAR or LINE IN controls ) .
The infos in Creative manual and software demo show the 2nd jack of analog sound card from the right being used as a LINE IN for cassette, synthesizer & cd player ( Iguess it goes also for truntable ? - i tried with cd player and it does not work either ) Third jack from the right is only for microphone (also tried but does not work either) . Sorry for lenghty description, I tried all I could . Am retired 7 yrs old and i wish to transfer all my jazz vinyls to puter inorder to make cds. Kindest to All for your help. Audigy 2zs to Audigy 4 pro, it is worth
Hi,
I am deceptioned with the sound quality of my X-Fi fatality compared to my old Audigy 2,?so i want to buy Audigy 2zs?or an?Audigy 4 pro, what you guys thinks is the best of the two ?I already know the difrences from the Audigy 2zs?or an?Audigy 4 pro (better dac?s, higher snr) in therms of hardware, what i am seeking is someone wo listen the above two cards and can tell me about sound quality.Message Edited by Rubix on 05-0-200703:56 PM
Message Edited by Rubix on 05-0-200704:00 PM...the "improved" SNR ratio due to better DACS will probably go unnoticed unless you're one of those "golden ears" who'd willingly spend money over gold-plated mains plugs and the such. In other words, if your speakers and amp don't have a comparable/better SNR ratio than the DAC, you won't even notice any difference. And if you're using a digital speaker/amps connection, then the internal DAC doesn't matter at all.
As the rest is concerned, all Audigys ,Audigy 2 and Audigy 4 cards have that nasty 48 KHz/ 6 bit internal resampling when using their DSPs, so neither card would actually sound different in that respect (and, the poorly resampled 48 KHz/6 bit signal will also appear on the digital outputs).
X-Fis do perform better resampling than Audigys, so they SHOULD sound better.
I don't know exactly what let you down about your F4t4lity, sound quality-wise.Message Edited by CreativeSkeptic on 05-0-200704:2 PM -

Connecting Soundblaster Audigy 2zs to Home Theater Amplif
Can I connect my Soundblaster Audigy 2zs directly to an amplifier and still get 5.,6.,or7. speaker setup? I feel it's kind of redundant to use a reciever when the Audigy has all the capabilities of a Home Theater Reciever. And it outputs sound at 92khz, which currently is only available on more expensi've recievers.
My goal is to use my pc as a souce and connect it directly to amps and speakers. I would like to put money I save on recievers into a high end speaker system
I have read in the previous posts that it may be possible to do 5. by getting an mini jack to RCA adapter for each channel. But no details on 6. or 7..I am in the same situation as you. As the CL told me

You can either use the audigy to decode the sound or your reciever to decode the sound with the SPDIF passthrough. Just whichever has the better specs.
From my situation I would recommend having speakers with analog hookups to the front/rear/center sub rather then the digital output. The only way to take advantage of the digital output is with a DVD and in that case you can just watch a DVD on your TV rather then your computer. For games the analog 5. hooks is better as well because with games it decodes it and with your reciever it would only have 2. sound. -
I upgraded my SB Li've card with the SB Audigy 2ZS and noticed that while listening to songs and playing games, the sound is distorted. It sounds like the music is playing at a high speed and breaking in short intervals.
I have upgraded the drivers with the latest version available from the Creative website. I also upgraded to the latest Direct X driver - Ver 9. The Creative Diagnostics indicate no issues with the card.
Please advise, ThanksPaulBrain wrote:
Hi!
I've noticed partially extremely distorted MIDI-Sound on my Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro; it seems that the problem gets worse the more instruments are playing simultaneously; it doesn't seem to depend on which soundfont is loaded, and if, then only slightly. I didn't encounter the problem with the original drivers (at least I believe so), but I can't step back to the old ones because of their awful BF2-support. Currently I'm using the latest drivers (not beta). Anyone else experiencing this problem? Thanks for your answers!Message Edited by PaulBrain on 02-04-2006 07:7 AM
Select another MIDI Playback Device on Windows Audio settings (try "SB Audigy 2 Zs Synth A [xxxx]" for example).

Connecting vcr to external SB Audigy 2zs Platinum Pro
I've just joined, so apologies if I "mess up". I have some precious things on vhs tape, and want to transfer them to cd/dvd. I run Windows XP. I have to use rca connections, don't think there's another option on the vcr. I see the red and white rca connections on the back of the external 2zs, but where does the yellow (video) connection go? Would be very grateful for help. TIA.

Message Edited by Drummond on 04--2009 05:32 [email protected]Re: connecting vcr to external SB Audigy 2zs Platinum Pro~ Hi Katman - many thanks for the reply. There is no video connection on the SBA2zs that I can find either. I did send mail to Creative, but they haven't had the courtesy to respond. If I use the 2zs for the audio connection, can I then attach the video connection from the vcr to a separate video capture card? Will this bring everything together and in synch? Sorry, I'm still very much on L plates with all this. Once I get things on to the computer, I can then edit out what I don't want, and burn the rest to cd/dvd; or that's what I'm hoping!! It's getting the data from the vcr tape that's the stumbling block. I know there are?expensi've machines that you can put the vhs tape in and it will copy direct to dvd, my friend has one, but she doesn't know whether you can pause the recording (disk) and let the tape continue running till she gets to the next bit she wants to copy, then start the disk again. TIA of further help.

Audigy 2ZS 5.1 speaker settings won't h
I've had a problem numerous times. It involves my Audigy 2ZS (Creative) sound card. What happens is that I'll install the most recent software update (driver and Audio Console) for the card and go through the process of making sure the Creative Audio Console recognizes my card as a 5. speaker system (which it is [Creative]). I also make sure that the box is checked to synchronize with the Control Panel in Windows XP. I then make sure Control Panel is set to 5. also. Almost without fail, within a relati'vely short period of time (day/days), the Creative Audio Console has lost the setting and either has Desktop Stereo or nothing as an option that I can chose from as far as a speaker configuration is concerned. I hope that someone of you forum people can lead me in the right direction. Thanks.
Walter
p.s. one other quickie. Should I get 5 speaker separation on all of my audio output or should I only expect it to get it on PC games?I'm betting it's your antivirus. Many antivirus programs block registry changes, when when you change the speaker settings, it changes them in the registry. You might check into disabling that and see if it makes a difference.
As for when to expect 5. output, generally when you play something that is 5., you'll get 5. output. Most music for instance is stereo (2.0) so that's what you get when you play it. I suggest turning on "CMSS-3d" which will upmix stereo to 5. for you.
Enjoy!

Audigy 2zs notebook - Can hear but NOT record effect of Graphic Equalizer
Dear people,
Audigy 2zs notebook card, using with sonar-le to record (and also with Audacity).
I can record all I play with my soft synths, and mic voice, perfectly. Various tracks simultneously.
Playback is also great.
I use sonar-le in Asio 2-Mode, and MME and all works good.
HOWEVER, I bring up the Creative equalizer, and I enable it, it makes a NOTORIOUS difference.. I can enable it while I am recording, before, or after.
So I record a track as usual, but I enable the equalizer, and I am FINDING-OUT that I can not seem to be able to RECORD the effect of the creative EQUALIZER!
Even though I can hear it in and out, big difference, the track recorded wave continues to record as if it does not see the equalizer at all.
I have tried all available inputs and many many things, but I just can not get the eq. effects to RECORD.
I have two speakers connected to the dongle that attaches to the notebook card... I have also tried using headphones, directly connected to card, and all I can think. I tried also mme mode.
I also tried audacity and same. Can't get the recording to be like what I hear with the headphones.
Why would this be? How can I solve the problem?
Thanks a lot!neutron wrote:
Whoops!? That sequencer/recording application "Cubasis VST 4" comes packaged with Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro but not with the Notebook soundcard. A similar product Cubasis LE comes with X-Fi Elite Pro.
I haven't seen any details of the internal layout/architecture of the sound card, but I don't think that would help you in terms of some new configurations for recording.
In terms of recording capability, since there is only one input port with the NOtebook card, you are of course fairly limited in terms of connectivity, unless you have an external mixer (if you are talking about recording two things at the same time).
However, the audio quality of the Notebook card is certainly good enough to record very good quality audio with S/N, THD etc. My opinion is that people spend way too much time fussing about specs, noise etc. where in reality, most external transducers (mics, guitars etc.) always limit the recorded quality (unless you have really good professional recording gear and you have a lot of experience.
I've heard outstanding quality recorded music made on recording gear with much poorer specs than the Notebook card.
Best thing with your Notebook card is do what you've been doing. Use it and experiment and concentrate on the music generation itself.
Thanks for the reply!
I gather that the application may not be downloadable, specially if it is third-party. I do have the Synth effect, though that I can plug into Sonar.. I like the hardware enabled effects, though, specially since my music playing/recording system is a little complex.
Yes, I do have external hardware mixers, and though there is only the mic/line input, that's not too bad since this card has MANY internal inputs and outputs that I DO USE. All? of my instruments and music is now software based..Only the Mic is external. That's why the hardware synth of the 2zs laptop is so attracti've.. It does not bear on cpu or data... That's why I asked about architecture info orient myself.
Also, I may be wrong, but I read that many of the hardware capabilities of the 2zs notebook card are no longer there on the newer cards... That effects and other things are now mostly software based? Is that so?...Can I use two cards on the laptop, the 2 zs and the express slot one simultneously and have more inputs/outputs?
I am still interested in all practical possibilities, and I do like the Creative soundcards.
The great thig is that you told me that the Eq can not be recorded, so that's very important to me.. I can still record it, though out into a second laptop via the headphone jack. But I will try the VST's I have here first and see how they feel and sound.
It really amazes me, though, that I can hear the effect, but there's no way to record it.
Maybe a new driver could do it's
Thanks and best wishes! -
SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS VE Vista Driv
I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS Video Editor and am running vista business, i have installed the latest creative Drivers and have been waiting for months for creative to release PROPER WORKING FULLY FUNCTIONAL VISTA DRIVERS,? so that this product can work as its meant to work. I have been advised that drivers are being worked on and that they should be released soon. Its been 6-8 months and still no drivers that can deli'ver the functionality i expect in a $600 sound card, when i purhcased this product, there was a vista logo located with this product descrition saying it is supported and is vista ready, quite clearly it is not. I need accurate information on the following questions:?. Is there a creative team in fact working on a fully functional vista driver for this product.2. When will this vista driver be released?3. Will this driver deli'ver a fully functional product?Do not reply to this with some crappy template response as this will infuriate me, please reply with logic as i am a paying customer and have been for many years, i expect respect and i expect the truth from creative on this occassion. Please advise and escalate this matter to the MANAGING DIRECTOR OF CREATIVE, if you cannot then provide me with the correct contact details and i will do it myself.
Vespa,
We do not have plans to support Vista for Video Editor.
However, if you check the discussion on the Forum (primarily in the Video area) you will see that the audio portion can work due to the Vista support for the Audigy 2 ZS line and for the video portion, check the info on how to make it work. It works with Vista 32bit.
