Hi Res PDF to Web Optimized PDF

We are looking forward for optimizing the HI- resolution PDF files into low resolution PDF files. Can this by done by some automated way using any adobe s/w. Please provide additional details on this and costs if any.

Ok, let's see. Acrobat is out, because it's technically unsuitable for server use, and Adobe don't sell a server license. Frankly, even if they did, it isn't robust enough to be left doing a task for months unattended.
Adobe do have a family of server PDF products, about a dozen of them, all called LiveCycle something (plus LiveCycle Designer for clients). Most deal with forms, but some do other things like PDF creation or output.
So, it's worth looking at them to see what features are offered (or asking in a LiveCycle forum). Unfortunately, LiveCycle is very much its own world and the Acrobat users here seem to have very limited experience of them.

  • PDF Optimization (web-optimized)

    Hi,
I am looking for some capabilities of WCC 11g for optimizing the uploaded PDF files. Essentially following is what i am looking for:
Step1 User upload High res PDF files
Step2 It goes through the workflow and admin checks the PDF file
Step3 Once it is approved a Low resolution PDF file needs to be created.
So system will contain High resolution and Low resolution PDF files after approval.
I am fine till Step2, but can Step3 be automated in WCC i.e. automatic creation of low resolution PDF files (web-optimized) after approval using OOB WCC capabilities?
Do we need to setup IBR for this??
    Thanks.

Are their any configurations in IBR, where PDF optimizations can be specfied?
Actually, this is not a question directly about IBR. If you see this link: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10800/c03_pdfi_all.htm#sthref255 IBR is just a server, which processes conversions, but conversions themselves are performed by other technologies. Oracle now holds two of them: OutsideIn, and OpenOffice, but you can also use Microsoft Office or other 3rd party conversion tools.
The mentioned chapter in the manual also provides information what parameters can be set up at the IBR side - unfortunately, resolution or size is not listed.
You may have to get accustomed to other technologies - for OutsideIn (OIT) see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26550_01/index.htm
I have checked it real quick and OIT has an option to modify resolution of graphical images...
...which leads to a question: what exactly is your use case? As far as I know PDFs can be with the textual layer, or graphical ones (a simple test: double-click a word in a file and when it highlights the word, it has the textual layer). I'm not sure if resolution can be changed for textual PDFs (except for few images, that of course might be contained). Also, what are the reasons for having a "smaller" PDF?
Can this low resolution PDF file be created after the workflow is approved? It certainly can. I am not, however, aware of any method how to do this with a customization.
Out of my head I can think of two methods:
    - conversions are performed during CHECKINs - you could customize these services not to perform conversions, create your own service that would do it, and call this service explicitly when an item is release from a workflow
    - read also http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10800/c02_ibr_all.htm#sthref29 This contains an option: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10800/c02_ibr_all.htm#CBHBGGCF If you could a) modify the file format at the end of a workflow b) resubmit the item (it is possible, but only manually from the Repository Manager) you could achieve the required without modifying the services.
Somehow, I don't like either of these methods. If feels there must be something simpler, but I don't know where to find it.

  • Help Needed:  Acrobat Pro XI - Reduced Sized PDF vs. Optimized PDF

Hopefully some of you folks can help me, as I cannot get in touch with Adobe customer service.  I recently upgraded to Acrobat Pro XI.  In my old version of Acrobat Pro, I used to be able to take a PDF file of large size (let's say 10 MB) and shrink it down considerably with relative ease (down to less than 1 MB).  The file could then be easily emailed, shared, read, and most importantly wouldn't take up tons of hard drive space.  With this new version of Acrobat Pro XI, that same 10 MB file barely reduces down to 7 or 8 MB.  I have played with the various settings in both the File -> Save As Other -> Reduced Sized PDF and File -> Save As Other -> Optimized PDF.  Regardless of what I try, I cannot achieve anywhere near the same compression results as what I used to be able to achieve with my old version of Pro.  I can get the file size reduced, but the reduced file quality is trash.
Has anyone else encountered this problem as well?  Do any of you have any suggestions on what to do to fix??  I primarily scan a document as a PDF file with my HP OfficeJet Pro, and then reduce the PDF file size after the scan.  I could scan the document with lower DPI to begin with (currently scan 300 dpi typically grayscale), but then I don't have the scanned image quality that I need to reduce the file down so that it can be reprinted later at a good enough quality.

I had previously ran the audit, and 99% + of my bloat is in the image.  All of the other possibilities for bloat do not even add up to 1%.  For my purposes as a Financial Advisor, I print out blank applications & account forms, fill out the paperwork by hand, and then scan copies of the completed paperwork back into my computer for electronic filing.  Some of these completed client documents can be 50 to 75 pages long ... so the PDF scanned at 300 dpi obviously starts out as a substantially sized document that can take up 25, 35, or 45 MB per scan.  The crazy thing is that the old version of Acrobat Pro (I believe it was version 7 or 8) would take a 45 MB file and compress it down almost to 1/10th of the oiginal size.  As a result, a 45 MB file would end up as a 4.5 MB file.  This significant reduction was always accomplished using the one button selection "Reduce PDF" command ... had nothing to do with optimizing the PDF with the old version.  Once I ended up with the 4.5 MB file, I could open that file at a later date and print out a page that I needed and you couldn't hardly tell if it was the original or a scanned copy.  There was no loss of quality whatsoever!!  The Reduce PDF size in Acrobat XI just doesn't work well ... will take that 45 MB file and reduce it down to 42 MB which defeats the whole purpose of the Reduce PDF command in the first place.  If I play around with the inputs in the Optimze PDF, I can shrink the file size lower but lose way too much image quality.  The only variable that has changed from my old scanning results vs. my new scanning results is the upgrade from Acrobat Pro 7 to Acrobat Pro XI ... everything else that I'm doing is the exact same.  Same thing applies when I create a PDF portfolio from multiple PDF documents ... a 150 MB PDF Portfolio will barely reduce in file size.

  • Best options to save PDF for web?

I'm trying to save a PDF with CS5, which if saved at high-quality for print comes out to about 144mb. It has 30 pages, high-quality pics at 300dpi. The problem comes in when I try to save for web, I save as Interactive, and if I lower it to 72dpi it becomes unreadable, so I try 150dpi and it comes out ok, but at 40mb.
Yet I constantly see other PDFs around the web, of catalogs which have over 140 pages and only 19mb, or 54pages, and only 7mb, and yet the quality looks really good.
How should I save, and what options can I use to make quality reasonable yet in low MBs?

You may want to try optimizing PDF see link:

  • Error Message when Optimizing PDF

I am working on a project in PowerPoint using text, shapes, and clipart.  I save that as a PDF and then open it in Adobe and then prepare to save it as an optimized PDF.  When saving, I get an error message "An error was encountered while processing images."  As a result, the file does not optimize nor save.  I can't figure out what is causing this to occur.  I have completely recreated this document from scratch, and the error message is still occurring.  What can I do to prevent this?

You can't directly open a Pages  (or Word) document and Excel and, its equivelent  Macintosh program  in Acrobat. That's true. In OSX.5.8 and lower and 9.2 and lower you can go to print menu and choose AdobePDF and print a PDF. Or simply use the Mac's PDF button in Print menu. Or Most programs will allow you to save as Post script by going through the print menu click on PDF button and choose create Postscript from PDF (I know it sounds stupid but that what Apple has it listed as. ) Then Drop the PS File on Distiller. or open with distiller.
ON OSX.6.x (Snow Leopard) all bets are off.
you need to read this link.
Note: to make sure that everything goes smooth locate Automator select, do get info (Command key-I) and change from 64 bit to 32 bit. Its seems based on info from Acrobat the automator action for Create adobe quality PDF Automator action

  • Print multiple pdf from web site

    Hello everyone!!,
I need print multiple pdf from web site (web page) to the local printer o client printer.
I have investigated : cfexecuted, java code, javascript, but i can't do it.
The idea is don´t open printer dialog box for to print.
    Thanks.

It is NOT POSSIBLE (for security reasons) to do silent printing in this way.  (you wouldn't want to visit a web site and have your printer start spewing out page after page of profanity, would you??)
You can, however, offer the user the choice to print and then have it print.  That can easily be done by embedding JavaScript into the PDF to be printed.  If you have multiple documents, you should merge them together on the server first and then send a single document.

  • Automize Create a PDF From Web Page

I am trying to create PDF's from a list of 100+ web pages / URLs.
I would like to automize the process as to save me time.
(I have been doing some research but I am a newbie when it comes to programing / scripting / coding)
    My questions are
    1) Is it possible to write a script to execute Acrobat's Create PDF from Web Page option in order to automize a long list of URLs?
Something along the lines of .bat file (reading something like)
    acrobat.exe "http://www.google.com" "%CD%\GoogleTest.pfd"
    acrobat.exe "http://www.yahoo.com" "%CD%\YahooTest.pdf"
    2) If it is possible to script / automize Acrobat's Create PDF from Web Page can you lead me to the right direction as to what programs I need to write a script (if any) and any examples of how the script would be written would be extremely helpful
    Thank you for your time

You can post your question in the forum for Acrobat Scripting or Acrobat SDK.

  • I am experiencing difficulties opening some web-based PDF files on my iPad. I was having the same difficulty opening the same PDFs on my iMac (after I upgrade to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in settings.

I am experiencing difficulty opening some web-based PDF documents on my iPad. I had exactly the same difficulty on my iMac (after I upgraded to Yosemite) but was able to overcome it by adjusting the Adobe Reader plug-in security settings in Safari (in OSX).
Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to similarity adjust the security settings in Safari in iOS 8.
The message I get when I attempt to open the PDF (on my iPad) is as follows:
"To view the full contents of this document you need a later version of PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from ..."
Needless to say this is unhelpful for two reasons:
    - I have the very latest version of Adobe Reader; and
    - in iOS Adobe Reader is not a plug-in and plays absolutely no role in opening web-based PDF documents.
If anyone has experienced this difficulty and has been able to overcome it I would be most appreciative to hear of you solution.
    Cheers

  • Save As Other - Optimized PDF error

I'm on OSX Mavericks, Acrobat XI.
I read the other forum called "Reduce file size Acrobat X" but couldn't find an answer to my specific issue.
Since upgrading to XI I've been unable to succesfully reduce the file size of a pdf. Here's my workflow:
    - I start by going to "Create > Combine files into a single PDF"
    - I'm creating a pdf of scanned documents (no fonts used) so I drag in the jpegs in and it successfully assembles a multipage pdf
    - I go to "Save As Other... > Optimized PDF..." and then make a few adjustments like lower the jpeg compression level and the DPI.
    - I then save the document and there is absolutely no change in the document size. It doesn't matter what settings I make, they don't seem to have any effect on the image sizes.
    - Another bug keeps occuring that may or may not be related. Every few days I see a popup window asking me to update Acrobat. When I check the Creative Cloud app it says that Acrobat XI is up-to-date. Is there any connection? How do I make that popup stop (it seems like a pre-CC style popup).
I've been using Acrobat Professional for more than a decade and never had any issues like this in the past.

Using Acrobat XI Pro you could try a workflow that uses an Acrobat Action.
    Be well...

  • Errors in Export to PDF for web use - some images are lost when PDF is enlarged & in browser

I have a multi-page PDF in InDesign CS6 that I want to export to view on the web. I need the file to stay under 2MB, and I need it to be crisp and nice enough to read the type on the page (as small as 9pt type).
The errors that are occurring are the following:
On some browsers, some images will entirely not show up. Some of the missing images have been pasted into the document, some placed. I cannot think of a correlation.
When the PDF is enlarged (Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.10) to more than ~200%, there is one placed image that will mostly disappear. What I mean by "mostly" is that little bits of it are still visible, like I masked it carelessly or something. Since this is only occurring with one image it seems that it would be a problem with the image itself, yes? I'm all ears if I'm making a mistake. It is a placed .ai file with no link errors. Should I not be placing directly from illustrator? It renders wonderfully from 100% all the way up to 188%, and then if you enlarge by margins of 1% little bits of it disappear, almost a chunk at a time.
The way I've been exporting is:
File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print)
Adobe PDF Preset: Smallest File Size
    Standard: None
    Compatinility: Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)
Options: Optimize for Fast Web View
Export Layers: Visible & Printable Layers
    Compression
I always change the downsampling from [100/150] to [150/225]. I usually leave the JPG image quality low. I leave both bottom boxes checked (compress text and line art, crop image data to frames)
    Output
    Color Conversion: convert to destination
    Destination: sRGB 1EC61966-2.1
Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile
However, after reading a few other forum questions I started trying to export as Acrobat 4 so that it would flatten. When I do that, problem #2 still persists although I didn't test problem #1. I haven't tried using Distiller, and using the "prepare for web publishing" action within Acrobat itself makes the PDF too artifacted.
At the heart of my question is this: I am a young designer at an old company that is not necessarily keeping up with the times. I REALLY want to know what the best, most efficient way to export a pdf for web viewing is. Does this exist in InDesign, outside of InDesign? Does it exist at all? Tell me what I'm doing wrong so that I can get better!
    Thank you in advance.

Show Large Images is a preference inside of Acrobat which might be disabled.

  • PDF Portfolio - Web links do not work

    Hello,
I created a PDF with web links from a Word document. The links worked correctly in the PDF. I then imported the PDF into a portfolio (Acrobat X Professional, using the Grid layout). When I opened the PDF in preview mode the links no longer worked.
I need a way to either make the links work in preview mode in the portfolio, or to have it so that when you double click on the file it opens up outside of the portfolio.  Any help with achieving this would be greatly appreciated?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Would you try this experiment so that we can diagnose the problem?
On your Windows or Mac desktop computer, would you open the PDF document in Reader and check the General Preferences?
Preferences > General > Basic Tools > Create links from URLs.  Is the "Create links from URLs" check box selected?  (It is selected by default.)
Would you deselect it, close the PDF document, and reopen the PDF document?  Do the links still work in the desktop version of Reader?
