You cannot. You must use 10.7.2 or later for iCloud.
Please do not include real email addresses or other personal information in forum posts.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
     Snow Leopard General Requirements
       1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
       2. 1GB of memory
       3. 5GB of available disk space
       4. DVD drive for installation
       5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
           fees may apply.
       6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
           terms apply.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
     Lion System Requirements
       1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
           or Xeon processor
       2. 2GB of memory
       3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
       4. 7GB of available space
       5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
         1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
         2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
         3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
         4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
         5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
         6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
         7. Xserve (Early 2009)
     Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.

  • HT201210 I have an i-pod touch (16gb) bought about 5 years ago. It was left for 3 years, unused. I cant restore it at all - it seems to not start, open, respond.  Help!

I have an i-pod touch, bought about 5 years ago.  I used it for a bit and then left it unused for about 3 years. I cannot now get it to respond - it seems to have gone to sleep/died.  It does light up with the apple icon and the 'plugging in' graphic when connected to my PC.  When I have tried to unblock/restore it with the i-tunes tool, it goes through the process, but i-tunes eventually tells me that the restore is blocked.  This is a shame, as I want to use the i-pad again, but it seems to be dead due to lack of use!  Nothing else has happened to it - no bad use, no damage.  Help?!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Is there a faulty hard drive issue with MacBook Pros recently? (I say recent, mine was bought about a year ago)

The reason I am wondering is because previously my MacBook Pro crashed and failed to load past the white screen with the logo and a spinning disk.
So after googling the problem, fiddling about in recovery mode (which is pointless given I know next to nothing about computers), I went to an Apple Dealer
and they very kindly re-installed OS X Lion for me, because the hard drive had decided to play up.
Now, I am again facing problems with my hard drive, after both Safari and iTunes crashed. After this Safari refused to open and I restarted several times before a loading bar appeared at the white logo w. spinning disk screen, and after the loading bar filled my mac finally managed to open Safari, albeit minus the close tab 'x', only now, it is also claiming there isn't enough memory to open iTunes (there is, almost 7 GB of free RAM) and after installing ClamXav and Sophos and finidng no viruses, I ran Disk Utility which informed me after I had verified the disk that I need to run in recovery mode using another disk (which, I don't have. My family has another mac running Snow Leopard and I have no disk for OS X Lion... or would an external hard drive do?) and that I need to repair the disk using Disk Utility.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated
Additionally, a program that I have called Sibelius also plays up at around about the same time that the disk keeps crashing. Could this be the cause...?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
As far as I know, I haven't noticed any problem with the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro about their hard disks. All hard disks fail with their use, but it looks like the hard disks you had on your Mac were defective (at least, the last one). If the hard disk was replaced recently, you should be able to take it and they should repair it for free, or at least, that's what Apple does on Apple Stores

  • I have used firefox for Mac OSX 10.4.11 for about a year and i quit it and opened up again later and all of my bookmarks were gone and it seemed like it was a whole new firefox is there anyway to get my stuff back

Everything that was saved on my Firefox including bookmarks for work, important add on with things saved on them, and all of my previous downloads. One minute it was working i quit Firefox then opened it up again and all of my items had been deleted. Please help!

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I have an IMac 10.5.2 from about 5 years ago and recently my flash player stopped responding.  I tried to update my flash player but it tells me I need an updated system to install the player.  Can anyone help me figure out how to solve this problem?

I have an imac osx 10.5.2 from about five years ago and recently my flash player stopped operating/responding.  Does anyone know if I have to install a new flash player?  I have attempted it several times and it won't let me.  I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this problem.  Do I need a new operating system?

Why have you not updated to 10.5.8?
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC (G4 or G5) Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:

However, the system requiments are pretty steep:
    Mac OS X v10.6 or v10.7
    2GB of RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo or later
so you at minimum need to upgrade the OS to at least OS 10.6. That is this package:

Anyone out there have a mac osx 10.3 install & restart discs?

Some Powerbook G4s actually would only work with the Gray discs that came with them.

It is impossible to know if system specific 10.3 installer is needed, or if a retail 10.4 is needed.
    Know these dates:
Macs that were released between 10/24/2003 and 12/17/2003 (xx343...xx350 serial numbers, where x can be any letter or number) could only install 10.3.2, or 10.3.5 retail as is labelled on the disc, and the prebundled installer disc that came with them.  All retail discs for 10.3 looked like: and did not say upgrade, dropin, or OEM.
Macs that were released between 12/17/2003 and 8/12/2004 with serial numbers xx351...xx432 could only install 10.3.5 retail as is labelled on the disc and the prebundled 10.3 installer disc that came with them.
Macs released with serial numbers xx433 to xx516 could only use the 10.3 installer disc that shipped with them to install 10.3, and for retail release could use 10.4, or 10.5 depending on their configuration stated in this user tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2541
This is all covered in my tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2831
Please do NOT post your serial number on the forum, as it is public.

  • I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

I am a new mac user and I switch to mac due to the graphics that it brings. I do website in pc and I heard iweb is the best.NOW i heard that iweb will be discontinue. so what is the best application there for website using MAC OSX lion?

It is now confirmed  that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.
This might be of some interest to you at this time: Life After MobileMe.

    Hello,
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much free RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
    Also...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

There is none. You are at the end for a PPC machine. To upgrade you need to purchase an Intel Mac.

Not sure I understand how Migration Assistant is doing anything. I thought MA was for connecting your computer to another computer or volume and transferring files. I'm just not sure how you're using it. Like I said earlier, everything you do on your Mac overwrites more of what data may have been recoverable if there even was any. Not to kick you when you're down but this is exactly he kind of a situation where a time machine or other back up would have saved you a lot of heartache. I'm sorry but I don't think I can be of any help :-(
