Hi there. I have received a message with a heading software upodate.. it says that something is trying to trip firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network supplier. Please help

This message has appeared before, I thought I had dealt with it but it has just appeared again.
I have also lost my firefox desk top page with the world logo enwrapped with a fox

Apparently this occurs when Firefox has problems with security certificates. There have been a few questions about this. I will try to get advice about this.
Apparently you are using Internet Explorer 9 (From your system details). Do you have Google Updater plugin installed on Firefox ?
(That been implicated in this sort of problem by one poster, and some users with the problem do have Google Updater, but some do not)

I'm getting an error message from Firefox that says, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help." Do you know what is going on here--what this problem could be? (I do have the latest Firefox version already installed. I have previously received Firefox error messages that say "Firefox Update Failed." However, I already had the latest Firefox version installed when I received those error messages.)

  • "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help."

This message appears in regular intervals. I think it is intended to prevent Man-in-the-middle-attacks that want to foist you a rogue Firefox update.
In my company the "Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway" with HTTPS inspection is used. This HTTPS inspection is done by installing a local (company-controlled) Certification Authority in the browser on the users computer and then performing a de/encryption of the SSL-stream on the proxy server.
But as Firefox not only verifies the certificate of the update server, but also the Issuer of the certificate, the update is rejected because of a possible Man-In-The-Middle-attack. In case of the "Microsoft Forefront TMG" this is an intended MITM-attack ...
Is there any possibility to change the expected certificate chain of the update server in Mozilla Firefox?

    To access the preferences:
<br> Type '''about:config''' into the url bar and hit enter. Click on the ''I'll be Careful'' button. Then type '''app.update.certs.1.issuerName''' in the filter or search box. Then double-click the pref or right-click > Modify and fill in the new value. Then close Firefox to save the changes.
To add the other 2 preferences (app.update.certs.3.commonName & app.update.certs.3.issuerName) that are not there by default, right-click on one of the prefs inside the the about:config window. Then choose '''New > String'''. Then fill in your custom values in the boxes that pop up for each preference. Make sure to close Firefox to save the changes.

  • I think I have the latest Firefox version, but keep getting messages about updating it. 1 says something is preventing Firefox from updating securely; another says something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update. What's going on?

The 1st message goes on to say, "Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox from http://www.firefox.com." Assuming 4.0.1 is the latest version, it seems this is a bogus message and I haven't clicked on the link.
The 2nd message goes on to say something like, "if this continues [the attempt to trick Firefox into accepting an unsecure update], contact your network administrator."
I started getting the messages on all 4 of our PC's (2 desktops running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 1 running XP 32-bit, & a laptop running Vista Home Basic 64-bit) after updating to Firefox 4.0 on them. I manually updated to 4.0.1 on all thinking that would stop the messages, but it hasn't.
I loaded & ran free versions of McAfee Stinger, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Super Anti-Spyware programs on all our PCs; each program found & repaired some infected files on each computer, but the messages continue on all.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Your signature in 1st post was 10.8.2.
    You went backwards?
Did you reformat and reinstall when you first purchased it?
If not I HIGHLY recommend you do that before you do anything else.

  • Two days ago I started receiving this message,  "The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again." I have no idea what to do or what I did to get this mess

ssage. I use Time Capsule to store my iTunes library and to back up with Time Machine. Since I started receiving this message, Time Machine is no longer backing up and I can't access my iTunes library. Any ideas what happened? I also use Time Capsule for all of my wireless devices. Apple TV is working fine, my iPads are accessing the Internet fine. I just can't seem to access the information contained on the drive.

Here is another part of the error message I continue to receive
"There was a problem connecting to tge server "David-Kimmels-Time-Capsule.local".
If anyone could help I would surely appreciate. Going crazy not able to access iTunes.

  • Firefox was not working properly with facebook, so i restored my system to a previous version, after the restore, firefox is not working, i am trying to launch firefox but it is not opening, please help me...

    fire fox is not starting.

Be careful with using system restore as it only restores some file, so you end up with a Firefox installation that has a mixture of old and new files.
Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • When i check yahoo mail on iPad i have numerous empty messages with a 12/31/69 sent date that contain nothing.  they do not show on my mac though...what is going on?  i cannot delete them either....

When i check yahoo email on my ipad2  there are numerous messages dated incoming on 12/31/69 that are empty.  They do not show up on my mac.  Also, if i try to edit emails on my ipad2  it will not allow me to delete them.  what is going on?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT5824 The only thing I want to use iCloud for is to back up my contacts.  Since I have almost completely filled my my free 5GB I am assuming that iCloud is backing up other stuff I don't want.  Please help!

How do I ensure that iCloud is backing up only my contacts list?  I want to stay within the 5GB and it apparently is almost full.

You can manage your iCloud storage here:
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Select your device
From here you can mangae what gets backup and see how much spoace each item is using.
I assume it is mostly your Camera Roll.
If so Import your photos and videos from your iOS device to your computer so they can be backed up. Then they can be deleted from your phone.
You can also turn off iCloud Backup and backup with iTunes instead.
