Hi - Will Ipad Air word apps convert to .doc or .docx?

Hi,
I have been a microsoft user most of my life.  I have decided to buy an ipad air and I need to know whether its word programme will convert to both .doc and docx
Also, on my laptop at the moment I save files on microsoft skydrive - will I still be able to save files on this cloud from an ipad air?
Thanks
Sofia

There is no Word program for the iPad.  Microsoft hasn't made one.  But Pages can read and write most Word files:

Microsoft has published a free SkyDrive app for the iPad:

How much RAM will Ipad Air have and will it be sufficent?

Its just apple tend to give their devices the minimum RAM they can as a sort of a limiting factor, ive had my Ipod touch 4 for 3 years now and its virtually useless now because of the lack of RAM they put in them and i dont want to be paying over 600 pound for something thats not going to run good apps after two years because theres not enough RAM.
Well, any mobile computing device you buy is technically obsolete within a year or less of being released - for any company's products that's true.  And with all of these all-solid state devices, you cannot update the RAM or the storage, so they basically remain useable and supported as long as they do - there really is nothing you can do to avoid that sort of situation.  Smart phones and tablets are evovling at an almost frenetic pace, so nothing in that arena is going to be compatible with the operating systems and apps of newer future devices for very long.
You can maintain your own device's usability for longer by making sure to keep backups of apps & versions of apps that you know do run on your device so you will not be left behind if an App store update drops support for your device and removes the older app version.
And as far as iOS devices, I don't agree that Apple only installs the minimum RAM.  The amount of RAM is going to be based on a number of factors - the capability of the mobile cpu being used, the footprint of iOS and the built in functions, the typical RAM usage of known iOS 3rd party apps, the size of battery(s) available to fit in the space available, the added cost of additional RAM and any number of additional parameters.  In a device like a tablet or smart phone, every single component that goes into them involves some trade off or compromise.

  • When will ipad air 2 ?

when will ipad air 2 be available in canada

This is an iPad user to user forum, so you are not addressing Apple. We have no way to know what and when Apple will do something. You'll have to wait for an announcement by Apple.

  • IOS 8 iPad Air Pages App Capitalization Mid-Sentence.

I have noticed this problem with Pages operating on my iPad Air only now that I have updated to iOS 8. The autocapitalization feature for proper nouns and the beginning of sentences works as usual. My issue is when I replace the cursor in the middle of a sentence or at the end of an unfinished sentence that has no punctuation. Begining with iOS 8, Pages will now capitalize the word I am tying regardless of where I replace the cursor. Let's say I forgot to put the "s" at the end of "pages" and I replace the cursor directly after the "e" in "page". Pages will automatically capitalize my cursor, even though I am at the end of a word mid-sentence, and the result is "pageS". This is incredibly frustrating when going back to correct errors mid-sentence. After each time I correct an error, I return to the end of the incomplete sentence and my cursor is capitalized, even though I am mid-sentence. iOS 7 pages never did this.

I Have had the same problem, which I posted at Uppercase on when insert text in Pages iOS 8. I'm glad to learn I'm not alone.
BTW, I have had a capitalization problem with typing in these forums. Note the second word above. Also, if the first word has more than one letter, the second letter is also uppercase. Maybe this is related to the Pages problem in some weird way.

  • Buying New iPad Air: Transferring Apps

I'm buying an iPad Air and am concerned about transfer of apps.  Is there a way to do that or will I have to manually re d/l each?

    Hey peterfromhighland park!
I have an article here for you that should be able to address that question:

  • My iPad Air iMessage app froze and would not budge!

iPad Air 1, iOS 8.2.  The iMessage app suddenly froze and no touching could unfreeze it.

Force close the Messages app and reset your iPad. You will not lose any data.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
In order to reset your iPad, hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen after which time you can release the buttons and let the iPad start up.

  • I cannot find my downloaded podcasts in my iPad Air music app. Where do I click next?

Where are my recently downloaded podcasts in my iPad Air?  I have the Podcast App; I went to the Music App. as one person suggested and the inquiring party was successful.  I'm missing a step here.

If you downloaded them using the IOS Podcasts app they will be in there.  Open Podcasts and then select "My Podcasts" found in the lower left part of the screen.  You should now see them.  Many other apps also download podcasts.  For instance I download a lot of radio station podcasts using the radio app TuneIn Radio.  The only way to play them back is to use TuneIn.  The IOS app "Podcasts" has no idea they exist.

  • IPad Air Included Apps

I just received my new iPad Air. I had understood that it came with several apps including: Pages, Numbers and Keynote, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Did I misunderstand the promos? I use a Dell XPS desktop running Windows 7.

Maybe try one last thing before contacting Apple:
Log out of the iTunes Store on your device:
Settings>iTunes & App Store...tap your Apple ID, then select "Sign Out"
    Reset your device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
After the device has restarted, sign back in to the App Store as above. Try to download the apps again.

  • When will ipad air 2 be hitting indian stores??????

i have been waiting for ipad air 2. if anybody can tell when it will be available in india

Last Year iPad Air was Launched in US on 1st November, 2013. But it launched in India on 7th December,2013. The Pricing of iPad Air wasn't announced officially till mid-end November.
This Year, the Pricing of iPad Air 2 was announced on the first day itself, and even the iPhone 6,6 Plus launched Earlier in India compared to Previous iPhones.
Considering these things, I Believe It won't be too Long.
I Guess 7th November or 14th November 2014, could be the Official Launch Date in India.
Though there are some other factors to consider:- Due to Anti-Reflective Coating, the Manufacturing of iPad Air 2 is Slower and hence stocks could be limited.
Hope it Launches Soon. BTW it'll be in news everywhere when it does.

  • IPad Air music app always defaults to Genius Mixes

Apologies if this has been discussed and solved in a previous discussion but I can't trace it.
I have an iPad Air and when I select the "Music" app it the always defaults to Genius Mixes which have somehow been created by Apple albeit from my own music. I then have to tap on one of the other tabs like Artists or Albums to proceed. Even I left my iPad on Artists, next time I switch on and go to "Music" once again it defaults to Genius Mixes. How do I stop this happening please? It's not a great iss
BTW, I don't have iTunes Match and Genius is switched off in iTunes on my PC.
    Thanks.
    Brian.

Wow thanks James I didn't realise it was possible to edit and therefore rearrange the icons at the bottom. Because Genius was at position #1 I suppose it always defaulted to that (perhaps!). Anyway I've moved it well along the line of icons and now when I select Music it starts at position #1 which is now Albums.
    Thanks so much.
Well, I had not thought about the icon position controlling the default. Albums is in my #1 position and it is pretty much the only view I use on a regular basis.
Glad you got it sorted out.

  • IPad Air Mail App & Exchange 2013

    Hi all,
My iPad Air (iOS 7.1.1) Mail App was setup with our work Exchange 2010 and it worked with no problem. Just today they upgrade to Exchange 2013 it stopped connecting. I deleted the account (after searching the internet) and trying to recreate it with no success it says "Unable to verify account information"
Any idea how to solve this.
FYI, my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.3) working with no problem with Exchange 2010 and the new Exchange 2013, I just Quit the Mail prog and run it.
    TIA

To delete an email account, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > [your account] and find "Delete account" toward the bottom.
Regarding printers, make sure you use an AirPrint printer.  They are listed here, along with instructions:

  • Will iPad Air support IMAP e-mail server

I have an iPod whereupon my Sky IMAP e-mail account works fine, I am close to buying the new iPad Air, but read many off putting comments about IMAP e-mail not working with iOS7 within the support communities forum?
    Can you advise according please
    Kind regards

I use Mail+ (the app JimHdk linked to) to access my work exchange mail via the web exchange portal our company runs (at work I just use Outlook, as my work machine is a Win7 box).  It works quite well and the developer is very active in adding improvements and enhancements as well as being very responsive to questions.
If your Outlook mail is accessible via an Outlook Web page, it is one possible alternative.  For me it means I have my work email on my personal iPhone and iPad without having to accept and live with our IT security settings in place on my own devices.

  • Will iPad Air 2's touch ID fingerprint sensor recognize 2 authorized fingerprints?

My wife and share use of an iPad 1. We're considering upgrading to a shared iPad Air 2, but am concerned about the touch ID fingerprint sensing function.  Will the function be able to record and allow use of 2 authorized fingerprints - my wife's and mine?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5883 referenced in Star Traveler's Apple Support document (Touch ID security) gives the really useful answer to my question ... assuming the iPad Air 2's Touch ID operates the same as the iPhone's Touch ID.  The "Using Touch ID on iPhone" Apple Support document tells how to configure up to 5 different fingers to have their prints to be recognized as legit, while the "Touch ID security" Apple Support document makes only passing reference to multiple fingerprints being recognized.
