Hibernate (pm-utils) on a desktop

Hi,
I'm trying to get pm-hibernate to work on my desktop. It mostly works except it doesn't power the machine down after writing memory to swap. I can hear the hard drives power down, but the machine stays on.
Thawing works perfectly fine once I've manually powered off. The machine powers down properly when issuing a "shutdown -h now"
Any ideas? Attached are the log files from pm-utils, I can't see anything that can help me there.
/var/log/pm-powersave.log
/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/sched-powersave false: **sched policy powersave OFF
success.
/var/log/pm-suspend.log

OK,
I'm making progress with this:
echo -n "shutdown" > /sys/power/disk
echo -n "disk" > /sys/power/state
Will hibernate and power off the machine.
The docs for this are crap, however the bash scripts are well documented, I can achieve the above by putting
HIBERNATE_MODE="shutdown"
in a file in /etc/pm/config.d/
However, should it concern me that /sys/power/disk isn't set back to the default value on thaw?

I have a mid-2010 iMac and just purchased a 2TB TC, I just found out that it can't join existing wireless network with new AC standard so attached to iMac via ethernet with TC's wifi turned off.  How do i access TC now? not showing up in disk utility or on desktop. It is working fine with TM.  My cheeper seagate drives etc kept crashing, so i didnt trust cheeper back up options anymore.  Connected those drives to TM via firewire and could see the drives and access them.
Also, I didn't want to bridge TC with my new fios router that I paid 100 dollars for, to get N speed and also paying 10 dollars more a month for fast speed.  I heard that bridging slows down everything and then there can be port issues with mail etc.  I connect to the internet via airport only and it is pretty fast. Getting over 50mbs downloads and over 30mbs uploads.  Plus everything in my home it connected to my fios router, airport express for music streaming, two apple tvs, vuezone camer system.  I really didn't want to monkey around too much with my system.  But are there other options to connect the new TC.  Can't find info anywhere for this and called apple who gave me the info above.  after hanging up, i see that i cant access my TC and I am wondering if i would have to reset it to turn wifi on again to make changes to the drive, turn off blinking light  or repair it in disk utility if it should become corrupted.
For other with similar issues i did solve some other problems: when i connected it to my ethernet port on my iMac wifi stopped working.  Found that I had to turn off the ethernet in the system>network screen, but then TM didn't see the TC so i restarted after changes and then it saw it.
Now a rant.  I can't believe in this wireless age that Apple would make a product that cant join a wireless net work.  The apple rep said i could return it and look for the previous TC that would join an existing wireless network.  Are we going backwards?
    Thanks!
    lennydas

Ok... it is getting a bit clearer but there are still some questions.
I connect to the internet via airport only and it is pretty fast.
I was assuming airport in this statement in your first post meant the TC or the Express.. but I now realise we are still in the mass confusion stage where apple calls everything wireless an airport. So what you mean is the airport internal card of the computer??
Also, I didn't want to bridge TC with my new fios router that I paid 100 dollars for, to get N speed and also paying 10 dollars more a month for fast speed.  I heard that bridging slows down everything and then there can be port issues with mail etc.
    I think this is mistaken.
Putting the TC in bridge mode plugged into your FIOS will not slow the network.. nor will it cause mail or port issues.. in bridge the TC is just a fancy WAP and switch plus the network hard drive.
If the computer is close it will be faster than the FIOS.
You can run both wireless networks with different names.. so it is clear which is which. But you can also setup roaming so the computers themselves pick which is the best wireless.
I tried extending the wireless net work and tried joining wireless network, but the TC kept crashing and I had to keep resetting the TC.  the Apple support person said these, extend wireless network and joint wireless network, are no longer a connection option with the new TC because of the new AC protocol.
    Thanks again!
You cannot extend to a non-apple wireless router.
You cannot use join a wireless network because when you do the ethernet ports will be cut off.
But that has not changed.. I don't think Apple support is correct.. there has been no change with the AC model.. it is simply a fact that apple routers do not work in join wireless mode other than as a dumb client. The same applies to AC as to the earlier version.. but I have asked another person to check this.
Join in the express is the only apple router that still allows an ethernet connection.
For now you best use of the TC is bridged to the FIOS. Wireless you can sort out between several options.

  • External Hard Drive showing in Disk Utility - but not desktop.

    A little background:
Yesterday, I moved my shelf where I have my modem, Airport Extreme, Airport Express and an external HD connected to the extreme to be a wireless HD for all users to access. Everything worked great - no problems whatsoever.
Problem: I have reconnected everything exactly as it was and reconfigured it as it was and now the external HD is having issues. When connected to the extreme, I can see it in the airport utility, but cannot gain access to it in that way. When I connect directly to my macbook, it is recognized by the disk utility, but does not appear on the desktop.
I don't know if this may have caused the problem, but I carelessly, unplugged the power bar for which all the above mentioned hardware plugs into when moving the shelf. Now, everything works as it did, except I can't get the express to show up once it is configured (but this isn't surprising as I had to fight with it the first time I configured it - not uncommon I am told), and the HD is no longer accessible via the network, or when directly connected to my macbook.
Help! According to the utilities, the data is still on the disk, I just can't access it in any way.

From the Disk Utility, select the drive and click on the Repair Disk(not Repair Permissions) button. If the Disk Utility finds a problem it can't fix, DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro will likely succeed.

  • Time Capsule Not Seen By Disk Utility, Not On Desktop

My 1T TC works like a champ and backs up as expected. Can TC be used as an ordinary external HD in addition to being the location of TM back ups. The TC does not appear on my desktop and is not discovered by Disk Utility.

    Rocky,
Be very careful with the xxxxxx.sparsebundle file. That is an image of all of your Time Machine backups. Leave it alone unless you want to delete all of your backups.
If you do want to delete your Time Machine backups, use the gear icon just above the xxxxx.sparsebundle file. Click the .sparsebundle file to highlight it and select Move to Trash. This is only safe way to do this.
There is also an alternate way to delete your backups and wipe the Time Capsule clean if that is what you want to do. Open AirPort Utility, select Manual Setup, click on the Disks icon, then click on the Disks tab just below that and select Erase. This is probably the better option if you want to start over with a clean disk.
Now, if you want to create a folder or folders on the Time Capsule to move files into, use that same gear shaped icon in the preceding paragraph and select New Folder. Once you see the folder, you can rename it as needed. Create more folders in the same way. You can drag files into the folder from the desktop.
I haven't tried any kind of automated backups into the folders and don't know if this might be possible.
If you add folders and keep your Time Machine backups, Time Machine will leave the folders alone even if the TC is full and deleting old backups to make room for new Time Machine backups.
Hope this helps. Just be careful and you will be fine.

  • BW Reporting from Portal on utilizing Manager's Desktop

    Hi BW People,
I needs an help from you.
I posted this thread on Forum Portal side
    /thread/540267 [original link is broken]
    The question is,
    on customizing Manager's Destop
in table <b>T77MWBBWS</b>, in the field BW Rep.Templ.ID
is not possible utilize standard template QGL_STANDARD_TEMPLATE but it needs custom Templete.
I'm now able to start BW report from portal but
    1) In custom Templete i insert a Query, is not possible to transport this. I have to create this custom templete directly in Production system?
    2) Before to start BW report, as standard in Manager's Desktop is, i have to select on Employee number, manager's subordinate, but on calling BW report I have one selections screen and not in the field Employee of the report the number selected.
I have this possibility, I have at least the possibility to Skip the screen regarding Employee number selection?
    Thanks in advance for answer

    Hi guys,
    just for your information
    Problemems are solved both:
the first one by SAP through a customer message and
the second one by a standard webdynpro modification.

  • How Do I Get More Printing Options As on My Desktop???

I am printing on a HP Officejet 7410. On my desktop with the HP software I can change Print qualities as well as many other factors. I don't seem to be able to do that with my Powerbook? Can anyone help?

    Hi
Do you have the same versions of print drivers on each computer? You often get more options with the official drivers/print utilities than with any built-in driver. Although OS X comes with support for many printers, it doesn't always include every driver feature for those printers.
For example, you might find there's an "HP Print Utility" in your desktop's Applications folder, but not on the Powerbook. If so, locate the official driver from the HP site and install it on the Powerbook.
    Does that help?

  • SAP HANA One and Predictive Analysis Desktop - Time Series Algorithms

I have been working on a Proof-of-Concept project linking the SAP Predictive Analysis Desktop application to the SAP HANA One environment.
I have modeled that data using SAP HANA Studio -- created Analytic views, Hierarchies, etc. -- following the HANA Academy videos.  This has worked very well in order to perform the historical analysis and reporting through the Desktop Application.
However, I cannot get the Predictive Analysis algorithms -- specifically the Time Series algorithms -- to work appropriately using the Desktop tool. It always errors out and points to the IndexTrace for more information, but it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.  The HANA Academy only has videos on Time Series Algorithms using SQL statements which will not work for my user community since they will have to constantly tweak the data and algorithm configuration.
In my experience so far with Predictive Analysis desktop and the Predictive Algorithms, there is a drastic difference between working with Local .CSV / Excel files and connecting to a HANA instance.  The configuration options for using the Time Series Algorithms are different depending upon the data source, which seems to be causing the issue.  For instance, when working with a local file, the Triple Exponential Smoothing configuration allows for the specification of which Date field to use for the calculation.  Once the data source is switched to HANA, it no longer allows for the Date field to be specified.  Using the exact same data set, the Algorithm using the local file works but the HANA one fails.
From my research thus far, everyone seems to be using PA for local files or running the Predictive Algorithms directly in HANA using SQL.  I can not find much of anything useful related to combing PA Desktop to HANA.
Does anyone have any experience utilizing the Time Series Algorithms in PA Desktop with a HANA instance?   Is there any documentation of how to structure the data in HANA so that it can be properly utilized in PA desktop?
    HANA Info:
    HANA One Version: Rev 52.1
    HANA Version: 1.00.66.382664
    Predictive Analysis Desktop Info:
    Version: 1.0.11
    Build: 708
    Thanks in advance --

    Hi,
If you use CSV or XLS data source you will be using Native Algorithm or R
    Algorithm in SAP Predictive Analysis.
When you connect HANA, SAP Predictive Analysis uses PAL Algorithm which runs
    on HANA server.
Coming to your question regarding difference,
In SAP PA Native Algorithm, we could provide the Data variable, Algorithm
picks the seasonal information from the Data column. Both R and SAP HANA PAL
does not support Date Column. We need configure seasonal information in
    Algorithm properties.
    R Properties
    1) Period : you need to mention the periodicity of the Data
    Monthly : (12)
    Quarter : (4)
Custom : you can use it for week or Daily or hourly.
    2) Start Year: need to mention Start year.
Start year is not used by algorithm for calculating Time series, but it helps
PA to generate Visualization ( Time series chart) by simulating year and
    periodicity information.
    3) Starting Period:
if your data is Quarterly and you have data recordings from Q2, mention 2 in
    start period.
    Example.
If the data periodicity is Monthy and my data starts from Feb 1979, we need to provide following information,
    Period: 12
    Start year: 1979
    start Period: 2
PAL Properties. : Same as properties defined in R.
    Thanks

  • Disk utility died after 10.4.6

I've just got round to installing 10.4.6 (via software update), I repaired permissions first, did the update and then tried to repair permissions again afterwards...
    but...
disc utility just crashes each time I try to use it...it opens but 'quits unexpectedly' when I select a disc or volume...
so how do I solve this? How do I repair permissions or erase volumes?
    cheers
    Ian

right have copied the backed-up disc utility to my desktop and that runs fine, will do permssions repair etc
tried the original disc utility in Utilities and that one still wouldn't work so have replaced that with the copied version off the desktop and checked that that still runs fine...all seems well!
this I guess is why you do backups! Never had to use one before although have always taken them :o)

  • Airport Utility and new AirPort Express - Window XP

I have a desktop PC that is hardwired into my wireless router and a laptop PC that is connected wirelessly, both are running Windows XP. My AirPort Utility on my Desktop will not recognise my new AirPort Express, but my wireless laptop will. Here's the fun part....when I click on the "Continue" button to complete the initial setup the Utility goes through the "Connecting To Network" procedure but does NOT continue past. Same thing happens if I click "Manual Setup"I have reset the AirPort Express and still have no luck. Not sure what to do now...can anyone help?

There are many in the same situation.  See this thread
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23470358#23470358
And there is a fix but Apple keep deleting messages that mention it.

  • MAC Desktop Software not connecting

Okay, here is the problem...apart from the missing Languages:
When I connect the 9800 to my MAC utilizing the BB Desktop Software. If  I click Applications, the only things that come up are  third party Apps that I have downloaded, AccuWeather, The Weather Channel and WhatsApp Messenger. Nothing else shows up!.
Now if I check for updates I get the following message:  "BlackBerry Desktop Software could not connect to the update server. There may be a problem with your network connection or the server is not responding. Please try again later". Now obviously I can connect to the internet and read my mail so the network is working fine!
So as to performing a clean reload, they do not apply as it seems its impossible to get that far.
Also I do not understand how the the carrier can determine what is loaded on ones phone. I have tried loading the device software with the SIM card installed and without it, same thing.
Or is it that I am doing something wrong?
I should perhaps mention that I am in Germany and my Carrier is eplus!
I am adding my original post, as I believe my problems are all connected:
    Languages Missing
After reinstalling OS Software on 9800 I no longer have the languages that I had before e.g. German, French, Italian, Spanish,…don't get me wrong there are other languages, but the ones I need.
Using the BB Desktop Software I have looked in the Backup/Restore and Applications Folders, but no mention of Languages.
How can I get the others back?
I  connected my 9800 to my Mac  OS  10.8.4  with the BlackBerry Desktop Software 2.4.0 for the first time. I made a backup and after that somehow my 9800 restarted and then a message came up on screen (Mac) that the device had not been put away correctly, then another message came up that the 9800 did not have an OS installed, it gave 3 options to install all 6.0.0 but with different bundles. I installed the recommended bundle. I have also tried the other bundles, with the same result, which is not the Languages that I require!
MOD EDIT: Subject changed to reflect a new topic

    Hello nealpferd,
Thank you for your question regarding BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac and language support.
All language packs for BlackBerry smartphones are provided to BlackBerry smartphone users by the wireless service provider where the BlackBerry smartphone was purchased. The language packs are contained in the BlackBerry Device Software for the specific BlackBerry smartphone model and specific wireless service provider.
Please refer to the following article regarding language support on your BlackBerry smartphone:

  • Hibernate 3.6 Final (JPA 2.0) + WL 10.3.x :Unable to deploy sample appn

    Hi,
Is anyone able to deploy a JPA 2.0 (Hibernate 3.6 Final specifically) application on WL 10.3.x?
I tried on 10.3.2 and 10.3.3 but I get following exceptions
    Caused By: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.persistence.spi.PersistenceUnitInfo.getSharedCacheMode()Ljavax/persistence/SharedCacheMode;
    at org.hibernate.ejb.util.LogHelper.logPersistenceUnitInfo(LogHelper.java:39)

    at weblogic.deployment.PersistenceUnitInfoImpl.createEntityManagerFactory(PersistenceUnitInfoImpl.java:352)
    at weblogic.deployment.PersistenceUnitInfoImpl.createEntityManagerFactory(PersistenceUnitInfoImpl.java:332)
Or (when I set to use prefer-application-packages for javax.persistence.* and org.hibernate.*, I get the following exceptions:
Caused By: weblogic.deployment.EnvironmentException: Error processing persistence unit TrivnetEJB of module TrivnetEJB.jar: Error instantiating the Persistence Provider class org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence of the PersistenceUnit TrivnetEJB: java.lang.ClassCastException: org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence cannot be cast to javax.persistence.spi.PersistenceProvider

I have seen few forums that specify a workaround for this for applications that use spring.
    WebLogic 10.0 + JPA 2.0 = errors
The above forum also specifies that till WL10.3.3, full JPA2.0 support is not available. So does it mean that Hibernate 3.6 based applications won't work at all on WL 10.3.x and have to wait till 10.3.4 is released? Or is there any other solution or patch available for this.
This is really a high priority issue for us.
    Please suggest.

See the recent OTN post from 20110115 detailing the latest release of Oracle WebLogic Server and some retesting of the previous issues related to JSR-317 JPA 2.0 support below.
Re: Deploy Hibernate based EAR file on Weblogic 10.3.3?
The latest release of Oracle WebLogic Server has been available on OTN at the following location since 20110115.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic/downloads/wls-main-097127.html
This release provides support for JSR-317 JPA 2.0 container managed applications using the QWG8 patch or a manual prepending classpath change.
In 10.3.3.0 you were required to use the FilteringClassLoader via the *<wls:prefer-application-packages>* addition to your application managed persistence unit - this workaround as well as the persistence.xml renaming one is now fully deprecated and not required in 10.3.4.0 for both application and container managed persistence contexts.
As of 20110115 the 5 outstanding issues below look to be fixed by applying the http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/web.1111/e13720/using_toplink.htm#EJBAD1309 patch for QWG8 or manually prepending to the WebLogic 10.3.4.0 server classpath.

A JPA 2.0 EE application using EclipseLink as the JPA2 persistence provider on WebLogic is detailed in the analysis section below1) JPA 2.0 XSD parsing - verified
    2) New JPA 2.0 schema elements like <shared-cache-mode>NONE</shared-cache-mode> - verified
    3) JPA 2.0 runtime API like a entityManager.getMetamodel(); call on the Servlet or Stateless session bean - verified
    4) JPA 2.0 weaving/instrumentation - this will require a more detailed lazy model and more debugging to fully verify
    5) Dependency Injection of a container managed JPA 2.0 entityManager on a EJB component like a stateless session bean - verified
