Hibernate Question - Startup Key Sequences

The macBook has a feature such that if it runs out of battery it saves an image of the RAM to HDD and goes into hibernation. We can see this in the System.log as [Aug 15 16:45:59 machine-name kernel[0]: hibernatewriteimage done(0)]
Due to a separate fault my macBook is not then going into Hibernation, it runs until the power fails and of course switches off.
So when I do the restart the macBook does not "see" the hibernate_image and simply reeboots.
QUESTION; is there a keypress sequence [altctrlh, etc] to invoke the last/any hibernate disc image of the hdd?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Try resetting your SMC.

  • Startup key sequence to enter EFI

The open firmware startup key sequence [cmd] [opt] [O] [F] does not enter the EFI equivalent on the Intel iMac. What is the key sequence?
    Thanks!

No. What they did was boot into an Intel EFi test interface that they downloaded and installed. The Mac EFI still has no user accessible interface.
Careful messing around with that. Several people have already hosed their new iMacs beyond user repair by throwing commands at the EFI firmware.
Once you break it, you are done. You can't zap your PRAM or NVRAM if the firmware that listens for those keys at startup never actually comes up. =( You are just hosed for good at that point.
When my MacBook arrives, I will not be messing with this sort of thing at all. I value my money too much to have a $2000 paperweight.

  • Startup keys with new Apple Keyboard and MacBook Pro

Upon powering up my Rev. A MBP, I hold down the OPTION key on the new Apple Keyboard to select my startup disk. Strangely, the startup went straight into the default startup disk that I have chosen previously. I didn't get to selection stage.
I tried with the old/white Apple Keyboard and my MBP keyboard and startup disk selector is A-Okay.
I hooked up the new keyboard to my new Mac mini and did the same thing and no problem.
Haven't tried with the rest of the startup keys like C or X yet with the MBP. Wonder is this a software bug between the MBP and keyboard.
    Anyone with similar experience?

Actually, startup keys sequences do work with the Apple Wireless Keyboard (the old white one). I know because I have been using it that way with my Macs, PPC and Intel ones.
I tried Command-V, Command-S, Option, T, C and Shift on the new keyboard with my Rev. A MBP and it goes go straight into the Apple logo.
Swapped back to the old Apple Keyboard with my MBP and tried the keys above and no problems whatever so.
Hooked up the new Apple Keyboard to my new Mac mini and did the same keys without problems.
So, my conclusion is there something between the new keyboard and Rev. A MBP. Maybe someone with similar setup should try wha I did and see if they face the same issues.

  • Magic Battery recalibration startup key?

    Hi,
a while ago a iBook G3 dual battery wasn't recognized at all (X as batter indicator...).
I searched Apple's support site for battery recalibration (or something like that) and found a document that described a "magic" startup key sequence which worked. If a remember correctly it involved a "F" function key...
Somehow this document doesn't exist at all anymore....
Anybody knowing what sequence I am looking for?
Just if anybody is curious about it:
I have an iBook battery which had capacity for about 10 minutes when fully charged. After applying this startup thing the remaining battery time was shown as 8 hours, but the battery worked an unbelievable 1.5 hours (measured time under workload)...

Sorry if this is too dumb but find did not know "Open Firmware". Is this a OS 10.x app or ???. I have copied the answers and will try to use it but I'm stuck at the start because I don't know where to find "Open Firmware" unless it is just the act of opening the system.
    Sorry.
I have been reduced to using the laptop as a plugged in "desktop" for a couple of years. I had looked into buying a replacement battery but the forums said Apple is not supporting/selling replacements and info on third party suppliers was nil at that time. The only ID on the battery is Apple's name (sorry can't get it right now). I had checked for a Sony name when the fires started. Oh well I'll try ??
"In the Start up into Open Firmware by pressing
and holding the Command-Option-O-F key combination
during startup" of the machine or the "application??" Open Firmware. I am guessing when I first turn on the computer, I use this combination?
Is that the letter cap o or zero. The "F" key is that the fn next to ctrl since the other "F" keys are numbered. See how lost I am.
I do not have anywhere on my start up that I have a password so I am guessing I am completely missing the point or guidance.

  • Interrupt Key Sequence? Is there one?

    Hey everyone... a quick question.
Sometimes I'll forget to leave the 'abort' button in the menu bar and then I write a bit of code that hangs up somewhere and can't stop it.  So I have to kill labview to get out.
Is there a key sequence (like 'open-apple . ' for anyone who ever used hypercard on macs) which will interrupt the program?
    thanks,
    jonathan

    Hi,
I alway use a vi that runs on start up. I usually call it "Stop All.vi". This vi gets all vi's in memory (application property node), and then in a for loop opens references to each vi and aborts (vi method) it. If LabVIEW hangs up, I open this vi from windows explorer (or desktop, or recently opened) and all vi's are aborted.
When you aborting all vi's in memory, don't forget to check if the name equals "Stop All.vi", or "Stop All.vi" itself will be aborted!
If you didn't make such a vi at front, you can use task manager to stop LabVIEW (but don't press "end now"!). Then LabVIEW will prompt with a dialog. If you cancel the shut down, you'll still get a change to save all modified vi's.
    Regards,
    Wiebe.

  • Nokia 5610 key sequence to turn on Bluetooth

    Hi!
The screen on my Nokia 5610 stopped working. Or I can see that it's working since the light on the screen changes on startup. Though it's still black. Does anybody know how to fix the screen?
Anyway I want contacts back that I thought I saved on my SIM card but I didn't. So can you help me out with the key sequence to turn on bluetooth?
I think it's something like left top button (shortcuts),down x4... Or something like this.
    Thank you in advance!!

  • Hibernate without primary key?

i need to use hibernate for the table which do not have primary key. I found many explanation about there should not any table without primary key.
plz let me know for this case-
user table with unique pk userId
group table with unique pk groupId
and one more mapping table for them group-user table which will contain both of the primary keys. there should not have pk for that group-user table. but, with userId and groupId, the rows from that tables are unique.
I just wanna show a sample for this kind of case. plz let me know is there anyway to solve it?

Read chapter 7.3 of the Hibernate Reference Documentation.
For future Hibernate questions, please checkout http://forums.hibernate.org
This has definitately nothing to do with JDBC, but with lack of effort to gently read documentations/manuals.

  • Trap force quit key sequence

Does anyone know of a way to trap the Mac OS X Force Quit key sequence (Cmd-Opt-Escape)?
I want to come up with a way of preventing a user from force quitting.
On using SetSystemUIMode(kUIModeContentHidden, kUIOptionDisableForceQuit), disables the dock also. But I want dock to be visible.
Is there any way to trap force quit sequence so that I could be able to disable it.

Can not start up on my Macbook pro. All I get is a grey spinning wheel. Tried all the Startup key combinations and nothing works. I reset the NVRAM and nothing. I booted with start up disk , ran disk repair and all is ok. Tried to re-install OS but when I get to designating drive its blank. When I go to startup disk there is a "?" mark. When I restart under startup disk search for a drive it still comes up with nothing.  Before I got the grey spinning wheel I had a locked screen. Could not move curser or click on anything. Finally just shut down. Thank you in advance for any help!

Shouldn't still have a 'beachballing'... if the drive is being found and the system is trying to boot from it but is having problems, I would suggest looking over ds store's user tip - Step by step to fix your Mac.
It's likely either something corrupt in your system files or a failing hard drive. But follow ds's steps until you find the cause of the problem.
    Good luck,

MacBook Pro 2010: Flashing folder w/? on not responding to startup keys & I'm trying to install a new hard drive, can anyone help?

Thanks. It started up com that disk but when I went to install it had an error message (didn't get to write out what it said). So I attempted to restore from time machine but it said there was no space, even though it's a new (replacement under warranty) HGST 1TB HD,  so I did what  I think was right and tried to partition the disk but it now says 'Partition faild...POSIX report...cannot allocate memory'.  im not sure what to do, and I'm trying to remember how the previous hd was installed and formatted for use but that was over a year ago now. Should have erased the hd first or something?

  • Startup keys don't work

    Hello everyone
My iMac g5 powerpc has got problems with the keyboard startup shortcuts. It doesn't want to do anything. I have tried to use the C key, Option and about all the other startup keys I know. I have done a nvram reset, nothing changed. Tried plugging in a different usb keyboard, nothing either.
Anyone know what could possibly be wrong?
PS: I have got an intel mac also and it experiences the same problem, only there I can boot from the remote. Is it possible that I HAVE to use a mac keyboard? Because I'm currently using a logitech usb keyboard.
    Thanks in advance.

Using a Mac keyboard is not required, I have used other makes without problems. Do you have another kb that you can try?

  • Lion Terminal Application key sequence "cntl-shift-E-c-." doesn't work???

This key sequence "control shift E c ." terminates my Linux console application session which used to control a second Linux session
If I am unable to enter it, I must end the terminal window to end the console session
The sequence worked on Snow Leopard by default, but does not work on the Lion Terminal Appication
I get a "beep" when entering the E
    Anyone solved this problem?
    Thanks,
    ...Jim

    Thanks for your insights
Although I haven't tried it yet, I think the "Return-Tilda-Period" sequence will drop my ssh connection
made to my desktop linux system (where I was running the console command) and end the console command
I really wanted to preserve the terminal log files on the MacBookPro
I went to the Los Gatos Apple Store Genius bar this morning with 2 MacBookPros (Lion and Snow Leopard)
After a lot of experimentation, DJ was able to discover that control prefaced commands are insensitive
to case on Lion. They are always upper case.  So am able to terminate the console command run
from an ssh session on my desktop linux workstation using Terminal from the the MacBookPro (Lion)
using the sequence cntl-e-. which is passed through
Control C will not work, this sequence cntl-Ec puts the input into a mode where around 20 commands
can be passed to the console application.  These commands include buffer playback form the console
input-output log, bumping a user who had attached before you, disconnect, and some others
    Background:
The linux "console" application attaches the caller to the serial console port of a connected linux system
The sequence with the shift key I use on a lot of terminal emulatiors (Windows putty, other linux terminal
simulators, the "Termainal" app on Snow Leopard all accepted this command sequence (cntl-shift-E-c-.)
and passed it to the application that was connected.  Now I am able to disconnect from Lion without killing
    the MacBookPro Terminal session
