Hidden Acrobat comments exposed through Apple Mail Maver-ick

Acrobat Pro on Maverick has botched up the capability for me to hide areas of an edited Acrobat document. I created many PDF documents and over the last 5 years.  I will create a rectangle of solid white in the comments tool and a cover selected areas of copy I want to hide from the intended recipient, or add typwritter comments over the white box I create to modify the original content. This process of editing my estimates worked well in all previous versions of Mac OS until Maverick.
I have not upgraded my macbook and it created the covered file which I sent through G-Mail then opened it in my iMac with Mavericks and Apple Mail and the type was exposed the copy I covered up.
Mavericks has messed up Acrobat's commenting function.
Rich

I hate to break it to you but maybe your system for redacting content was flawed for all these years.
The comments box isn't intended for this & you may have been leaving them exposed in other PDF readers. Simply layering white comment boxes doesn't necessarily remove the underlying text, especially when the text is 'image based' on another layer. It's equivalent to using a post-it note to redact a physical document, the text still exists if you know how to lift the layer.
PDF Pen is another app that can redact sections if you want another tool. Acrobat should have an actual redaction tool, check it's help. Also look for updates as Eric suggested.
Mavericks may actually be saving you from an incorrect assumption.

  • Hidden files sent through Apple Mail

Whenever I send attachments through Apple Mail, I get these 1KB files showing up in the attachment. For example, if I attached and sent a 1MB file called "photo1.jpg" through Apple Mail, my friends receive two files; 1 MB file called photo1.jpg and another one 1KB file by the same name. If I sent two attached files, I get two more 1KB files by the same name. Depending on how large the main file is the other file may vary from 1KB - 8KB.
I do not know how to avoid sending something I do not see.
Are these .ds_store files? When I sent this to myself on Gmail through Apple Mail I get the same. So, it is not as if ONLY windows guys see them. I can also see them in my Safari.
    Please help.

This is likely the results of the AppleDouble MIME encoding mechanisms used within your Apple Mail client; the second hunk is the resource fork from the image file.
You can ignore it, or you can switch to a sending client that doesn't generate the AppleDouble MIME message (and the resource fork), or you can switch to a receiving client that does.
Reading fodder (though potentially more detail than you probably want) is available:
    http://home.earthlink.net/~bobbau/email/more-tips/
    http://db.tidbits.com/article/05787
There are other discussions of the AppleDouble format around.
The Windows Friendly switch disables this mechanism; the resource fork is not sent within the MIME-encoded message.

  • I have updated my iOS and now my hotmail will not verify my password through apple mail app.  I have reset password - tried new password and old password and it still gives me password incorrect.  Hotmail works fine on Mac.  Has anyone had this difficulty

I have updated my iOS and now my hotmail will not verify my password through apple mail app.  I have reset password - tried new password and old password and it still gives me password incorrect.  Hotmail works fine on Mac.  Has anyone had this difficulty and been able to resolve it?

Did you try deleting the mail account, then adding it back?   I've read a lot of times that is what needs to happen in order for it to work properly.

  • Emails always are suck in outbox when sent through Apple mail

Emails always are suck in outbox when sent through Apple mail. How should I deal with it ? Many thanks!

As mentioned, Outlook is not email standards compliant. It probably never will be based on Microsoft's history. However, I think there are various issues involved in the problems people have. I often send emails from home to my Outlook account at work. I have never experienced any of the problems that I've seen posted anywhere regarding Mail and Outlook.
My conclusion is that there are issues with certain Exchange Server configurations and/or issues with your own ISP mail server causing the issues.
I do have my system set up to Always send windows friendly attachments (from what I've read, this really is 'send Outlook friendly attachments'), and always put attachments at the end. Prior to the 'always put attachments at the end,' I wasn't having any issues, either. However, I read that that setting helped with other email clients, so I use it.
The obvious question is, "well, how is your exchange server configured." I would love to provide the answer to that question; however, I work for a DoD organization, so actually tracking down the person that knows the answer to that question will take somewhere between five years and never. With my 20+ years experience with the DoD, I'm leaning towards the never end of the spectrum. The other half of the equation is, "I'm using cox as my ISP."

  • I'm unable to send and receive email through Apple Mail 4.  I've checked my settings on Preferences, and my password to Gmail is up to date for syncing with IMAP, but it still won't connect.  Suggestions?

I'm unable to send and receive email through Apple Mail 4.  I've checked my settings on Preferences, and my password to Gmail is up to date for syncing with IMAP, but it still won't connect.  Suggestions?

I think it's trying to open it in a gMail eMail & is losing your gMail password that it needs log into gMail, but not 100% positive.
Have you tried Right clicking or Control+click on the eMail link & choose Copy? Works on some, not others.

  • Can't send email through Apple mail

I suddenly am not able to send email through Apple mail on my MacBookPro.  ipad and iphone still working.  I can also send email through att online.  My email is @att.net, and the message says "The server cannot be contacted on port 465".  (That is the proper port)

    Hi,
    Here are some suggestions,
    1. Try downloading another free email client to see if it works from there, just to eliminate other possibilities.
    2. Try removing the account in mail settings, and adding it again with the correct settings.
Let me know what you find!

  • Error response through Apple mail exchange

After I completed the iCloud transition, I am getting the following response in the Apple mail exchange "The connection to the server "p99-imap.mail.me.com" on port 993 timed out. Then it will ask me to submit the password and also a check box for "do you want keychain to remember". I typed the password in a thousand times and it still comes up. Apparently after talking to MobileMe it's an internal error and we have to wait on a fix? Anyone hear anything like this?

I have a similar problem. Neither imac or ipad will work on home wireless internet, however they work fine at my work. Been through 3 Mac techs to no avail. Error msg is p99-imap.mail.me.com” on port 993 timed out.

  • Setting up yahoo mail through apple mail

I am trying to get my yahoo mail account to run through my apple mail program, but to no avail. Any ideas on how to make it happen? Thanks

Actually, I am now reading about this site: http://www.e-link.it/macfreepops/
Apparently the Ypop for macs isn't very good, acroding to this guy: http://forums.ypopsemail.com/finally-super-easy-pop-yahoo-mail-on-your-mac-free- t3328.html.... But what do I know?!

  • Can no longer send mail through Apple Mail

Starting yesterday morning, I can no longer send mail via Apple Mail. I can receive it just fine, but when I try to send, it struggles for a minute, then leaves the message in my Outbox. When I open Mail's "Connection Doctor," it says "Could not connect to this SMTP server"; it says this for all three SMTP servers I routinely use, including smtp.mac.com.
No other computer in my house has this problem. In fact, if I switch to a different account on my Mac and use Apple Mail with these same smtp servers, it works fine.
Needless to say, this is completely mystifying to me. Does anyone have any idea what's happening, or how to correct the problem?
    Thanks.

Do my eyes deceive me? Am I dreaming? Could it really be true? Looks like Apple (finally) fixed this issue! Simply update your Mac to 10.5.5. It might reboot several times. That is normal. When it finally reaches the desktop open your Mail app and try sending. It should now work for you. I couldn't be any happier, after over a year without Mail it's finally working again! This is the update that everyone's been waiting for

  • Isp email through Apple Mail on iMac?

I am in Cleveland, Ohio and have ATT-uverse bundled service. It takes hours to find a person to talk with vs. the ATT computers. Several day ago my @sbcglobal.net email quit connecting to my Apple Mail app. Apple tech told me I needed specific info from ATT and gave me a set of questions to enable configuring after ATT changed settings on ATT.mail. ATT techs do not know seem to have the info needed. Does someone else with an iMac using ATT-uverse including Internet? Terry

Check the AT&T Support page for email server settings:
Email server settings (POP and SMTP)
It has all you need to know to set a mail client (any mail client) for POP/SMTP, assuming here that is what is being used.
FWIW, while I don't think it makes a difference, somewhere, sometime, AT&T quietly changed the documented POP/SMTP server names.  Where it was once pop.att.yahoo.com/smtp.att.yahoo.com, it is now inbound.att.net/outbound.att.net.  I still think the yahoo servers work though.
Note, I also have AT&T U-verse and never have any problems with their mail servers.  Full disclosure though.  I don't use Mail.app as my mail client except to answer questions in these forums like this.  But Mail.app works every time I fire it up.

  • Email frozen, connection doctor say ok but can't send or receive through apple mail. Works ok when opened using safari

My apple e-mail has suddenly stopped working. Connection doctor say everything is fine (no connection problems) If accessed through safari account works fine. Also have had to "force quit" on a number of occassions. Any help much appreciated.
Am a bit miffed with apple wanting payment to fix something that appears to be a bug on a machine that is less than 1 yr old

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • Setting up Gmail to work through Apple Mail

I already have a number of mail accounts on my iMac, Macbook and iPhone. For various reasons I need to use POP3-type accounts with my ISP, MobileMe accounts and Hotmail. Everything works just as I want it, with all accounts accessible through Mail (4.4) on all devices.
Now, to access some business emails, I need to add a GMail account. I've tried adding the account but get no further than the outgoing server part, because the setup cannot find it. I've searched online for how to complete the setup and, so far, I haven't found the definitive way, but have found much discussion about many problems others have been having.
Does anyone have the Definitive Method of how to setup GMail to operate through Mail?
    Help please!

What's the last step you do before receiving an error message?
Could you do a simple email alias instead?
    http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2009/12/14665/
Simply do this in Account Information: [email protected], [email protected]

  • Gmail IMAP through Apple Mail 6.0

I have been using POP for several years, have decided to use IMAP as it's supposed to give you much more flexability with use va gmail.com or mail.app
In order to switch over, I had to create a new IMAP acct, and delete the POP acct.
Everything worked fine, except, I would actually like to have "ALL Mail" load into my acct's inbox. It does show up under the Gmail tab on bottom.
Anyone iron this minor issue out?
    Thanks!

The Inbox in Mail.app automatically reflects the inbox of the IMAP account to which it is connected. You need to get all the messages into Gmail's actual Inbox. If you visit gmail.com in a browser, you can go into "All Mail", select all the messages, and click "Move to Inbox".
