Hidden dialog box locks up iTunes

In iTunes 7.5.x and 7.6.x, an Alert dialog box can be hidden resulting in a total loss of control of iTunes. To reproduce the problem:
- Open iTunes
- Under Preferences/Playback, select "Play Movies and TV shows in a separate window"
- Ensure that you have a video in a format that can be played by iTunes but not by iPhone (an audio file might work too)
- Connect an iphone (any other iPod might work too)
- Launch ANY video within iTunes and make the separate window large enough to cover most of the display.
- Move the video window just enough so that you can select the iPhone, open the Video tab and check the box to sync the "video in a format that can be played by iTunes but not by iPhone"
- Click on Apply then move the video window OVER the iTunes window.
- A dialog box will pop up stating that the video cannot be played by the iPhone. However, it will be BEHIND the Video window and cannot be seen nor dismissed. iTunes will then be locked up as you cannot dismiss the dialog box and you cannot do anything else either.

The Call Library Function is set to run in the UI Thread. Therefore, no front panel updates can be performed while the function is running (ie, the dialog box is showing).

A belated reply, as the problems itunes has have discouraged me from using it much. If you uncheck the "read only" box, it doesn't stay that way! Next time you use it, the box comes up checked.
I'm still having that problem, even when I open iTunes as administrator.
I've yet to see the answer to this problem. I use itunes mostly to download audiobooks, and I'm ready to download more, and want to save them!

TS4036 icloud backup dialog box locks up ipad

icloud backup dialog box displays and my ipad is locked up. Message reads:"Because your Ipad has not been backed up for seven weeks you must plug it in, connect to wi-fi and lock the computer." I have done this and still cannot use the ipad. The dialog box will not go away. Any help?

Reset:

While doing a "Save As", and while the "Save As" dialog box is showing, a second dialog box "unresponsive script" shows up. I can't deal with the "unresponsive script" box as it doesn't have focus, and I can't complete the "Save As" operation because its script has become unresponsive. I end up having to Force-Quit Firefox via the Activity Monitor.
Any less brutal suggestions?

figured it out:
- power off mac and turn back on while holding down Command + R (dont do it on an external keyboard just to be safe)
- choose the re-install Lion option (I'm sure there is another way to re-install Lion, this is just the way I did it, not saying its the best or only method)
- DO NOT INSTALL MACBOOK (Mid 2012) Software Update 1.0 - THIS SCREWS ADOBE UP!

I didn't know that iTunes had a 64bit download. I have Windows 7 Home Premium with 64bit operation system. I downloaded the iTunes for 64bit and it seems to have corrected the problem. I haven't received the message yet since I did this.

Finding hidden dialog boxes (aka alert boxes)

(note: most commonly the issue I describe below happens when the coding application CODA looses contact with one of my servers and an alert box informs me of this. I cannot continue using CODA until I click ok in the dialogue.)
I use spaces a lot but when one of the applications I am using throws an alert while I am in a different "space" the alert ends up behind other windows that I am currently viewing (like Firefox or finder). Normally expose would make it easy for me to find these dialogue boxes, but it seems that not all modal windows appear when using expose. I thought that making the application responsible for the dialogue box active might bring the alert to the foreground but that is not true either. I have resorted to going space-by-space and moving windows out of the way until I find the alert box - highly annoying and time consuming.
Is there a quick way to find these alert boxes and/or restrict them to the space that the parent application is living in? Anything to make this less tedious?

@baltwo ... my question is not about why I am getting the alert (I know why and it happens at appropriate times (ex. when I have no internet connection)) but rather how can I more easily find the alert box when it does appear. It's terrible to go space-by-space moving windows around just to find a dialogue box...

When, oh, when will these get fixed? It is, IMHO, the most embarrassing OSx issue in that it seems fixable yet it keeps happening release after release. People who don't use Spaces, ignore the following, but everyone else...
An app wants to tell you something. The app icon is, perhaps, bobbing around in the Dock. You're in, say, Space 2 and you left the itinerant app running in Space 4. You bop over to #4 and, as you're moving there, you briefly see a dialog box demanding some choice.
But when you arrive in the Space, the box has flown. And, typically, the application is semi-frozen in that you can't Quit or summon the briefly-seen dialog into existence. It is acting as if the box is staring you in the face but it can only be seen when sliding between Spaces.
At first, I thought this was a Microsoft crapware issue. It happened most often when Microsoft Messenger encountered a problem (common with this company-mandated app.) But I've now seen it in other applications including, tonight, iTunes.
Come on...iTunes? On an "upgrade-to-version-9.something-available" advisory caught up in the cogs?
Sometimes, like tonight, be-bopping between Spaces enough times might offer the hidden dialog box up for a click (in this case 10 or more jumps did the trick.) But I've had to force-quit applications more times than I think is righteous because I haven't been able to bring a button to bear.
Come on, Apple, this has been a problem since Leopard in 2008 when I rejoined the fold (I left the Mac world in the late 90s after a decade-long run.) It's happened in every version since on all three of my Macs -- all of which are on 10.6.3.
Heep derision on me if there is some simple fix I've missed. But I think this is an irritant which should be addressed.

This means that the phone you have was software unlocked to use on any carrier, or hacked. When you installed the update it restored the lock that originaly came with your phone. Not much you can do now. Apple will not support hacked phones. You will need to find out the carrier your phone is locked to and see if they offer official unlocking, or start googling to see if you can find a way to unlock 4.2.

I cannot download my cds to my itunes account., the dialog box does not appear

I am trying to download my cds into my itunes account. When I put the cd into the frive, I do not get the dialog box popping up to ask me if I want to import it. I looked in my preferenes and switched it back and forth from automatic to manual, and still no cd importing

If the above doesn’t do the trick entirely, then use the instructions in the following as it applies to the version of Windows you are using:
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
You may be required to boot into safe mode to complete the folder deletion process.

Windows 7 "Shift iTunes" -- NO dialog box???

I am at that point where I must split my iTunes library across hard drives BUT when I follow the instructions I simply cannot get the "Create New Library" dialog box to appear. No matter what I do, iTunes just starts normally (Shift key or no Shift key).
Am I the only one in the world that doesn't get the dialog box? (Don't see anyone with the same problem in the searches I've done.)

_*How to "manually" relocate selected iTunes content to an external drive or a network share*_
1. Move your iTunes folder from the current location C:Users<User>MusiciTunes to C:iTunes. This will make subsequent operations easier.
2. Open iTunes, since the library is "missing" you will be prompted to find it, browse to C:iTunes and select the file *iTunes Library.itl*. Check that content plays properly. In the unlikely event things don't work out simply reverse step 1.
3. Open *Edit > Preferences > Advanced* and change the location of the iTunes Media folder to *X:\iTunes\iTunes Media* where X: is the drive letter of your external/networked drive. If necessary, use the *New Folder* button to create the folders iTunes and *iTunes Media*. When you close the Preferences dialog you may be prompted to move existing files to this new location. If so choose No. If iTunes displays an *Updating library* message leave it to complete.
4. Select one or more files that you want moved to the external/network store, right-click on the selection and then click on *Consolidate Files*. This will copy just these files across, but leaves behind the originals.
5. Right-click on one of the items you've just consolidated and click *Show in Windows Explorer*. Satisfy yourself that file is where it is supposed to be, then edit the address bar replacing X:<Path> with C:<Path> so that you can see the original file. Delete this, then browse to the locations of the other files from your selection and delete them also. Empty the recycle bin to recover the space.
6. When you have finished transferring files to the new location, open *Edit > Preferences > Advanced* and reset the media folder location to *C:\iTunes\iTunes Media*.
7. Repeat steps 3 to 6 any time you want to "archive" more material to your external/network drive.

If that all sounds a little long-winded then it is. The easier way would be to have a script that simply moves selected files to their new location and tells iTunes where they now are. I have a something a bit like that, but it is currently geared up to moving files around to suit my rather specific folder structure. I could create an new version that simply tests to see if the current locations of the selected tracks begins with *X:\iTunes\iTunes Media* and relocates those that don't. No need to move the library or manually delete files. If you would be interested in such a script please let me know the drive letter for your archived files and I'll post up a link to the script.

I have one song from an album that I bought at itunes that won't play. Instead a dialog box comes up saying this computer is not authorized. When I put in my apple id and password, it says this computer is already authorized. How do I get this fixed?

This album is American Idol Top 4 Season 12 - the song that brings up the dialog box is Emotion by Candice Glover.
Is there a way to redown load the album with out repaying? Is that the best fix??

Delete the problem track from the iTunes library, allowing iTunes to move the track file to the Trash. Then download the track again from the iTunes Store via this procedure:

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
