Hidden file on desktop from QT?

I found a file on my desktop using Grand Perspective. It is 622Mb and has the following path/name:
Desktop/.QT-0142-bf812bbb-bffff3a4-00
From what little unix I know, this looks like a hidden file. I cannot actually see it on the desktop. Can I just open a terminal session and rm it?
iBook G4 1.42Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1Gb ram/ 120Gb Hd(swapped myself) / DVDburner

If nothing is currently using that file and it doesn't contain anything you want to keep, it is safe to delete. If the QuickTime Player is open, quit it before attempting to delete the file.

  • Hidden file when converting from raw to jpeg. How to delete this?

    I just found out that when converting raw into jpeg in Photoshop there is a hidden file enclosed starting with ._ Computers don't see them but televisions do. I discovered this because I want to show a batch of my images on a television with a usb of a sd card. It shows my images and after each normal image I get a black image with a questionmark. It says 'cannot read this file' and it shows the name of the image but with a ._ in front of it. For instance garden.jpg and then -_garden.jpg. Computers don't read images starting with ._ but televisions seem to do so. I want to delete these ._ images because I cannot show a slide show of my images on a television. Anyone can help? It seems that this hidden file is incorporated into the jpeg file.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks. I have thought of this solution but these files are not showing when I set it this way. I had a specialist helping me to find this problem and he was very surprised that these hidden files didn't show up in his special program for showing hidden information. Only when going deeper and deeper into this program these files showed on his computer. As they are incorporated into the original file (the jpeg version) you don't seem to be able to delete them. What do people do when they want to show (jpeg converted from raw)images on their tv?
    I have a Mac if that helps.

  • How to recover hidden files and folders from memor...

    When you connect your memory card to a PC or connect your phone as a mass storage device to a PC which is infected by a virus, the virus may hide all your files and folders.
    The virus also changes their attributes to "hidden" and "read only" and may move all memory card content to another hidden folder, though the size of the disk looks unchanged, files are still invisible.
    Steps to recover hidden files and folders:
    First, change the settings in "folder options" so that we can see all hidden files and folders,
    Open any folder > select organise > folder and search options, select view tab and under hidden files and folders setting, select "show hidden files, folders and drives", and uncheck the option "Hide protected operating system files" and click ok, click yes if a prompt appears for confirmation, now you should be able to see all hidden files and folders.
    Second, connect your memory card to PC using a card reader or you can connect your phone as a mass storage device and note down its drive letter. (L) is the drive in my case as shown
    1. If you have autorun.info file, you can manually delete it or use tools like autorun eater(or any other you like).
    If all the folders are moved inside a hidden folder, select all the items inside that folder, cut them and paste them to root directory of your memory card.
    If you select properties of any folder on your memory card, the hidden attribute might be locked as shown:
    To solve these issues, type cmd in the start menu, right click on it and click run as administrator.
    2. In the command prompt window, type the following:
    L: [Press Enter]
    Here, I assume L as your drive letter.
    3. Type the following code to reset the attributes of all the files and folders to their default:
    Attrib *.* -r -h -s /s /d   [Press Enter]
    After few seconds, all the files and folders will be reset to their normal attributes settings.
    Hope you enjoyed reading the post and was helpful.

    Check the formatting of the external hard drive. To do that, right click on the drive icon and select Get Info. (Or click once on the drive and type command +i ) The pane includes information about the drive format.
    The drive should be formatted as Mac OS Extended. If it is not, run Disk Utility (App;ications / Utilities) and format the drive.

  • Open word file in desktop from SAP

    Halo ,
    I have a requirement in which I have got a word file in my desktop . I have the location path . Is there any FM in which I can give this Path so that it opens up the word file by itself.
    Moreover is there any way to execute the file in the application server.
    Regards
    Arshad

    Hello,
    You can use GUI_RUN for desktop. provide the file path in command parameter and execute it to invoke the file on desktop.
    Also, you can use WS_EXECUTE to open file on application server.
    " For desktop:
    CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_RUN'
      EXPORTING
        COMMAND          =
    *   PARAMETER        =
    *   CD               =
    * IMPORTING
    *   RETURNCODE       =
    *For application server:
    CALL FUNCTION 'WS_EXECUTE'
    * EXPORTING
    *   DOCUMENT                 = ' '
    *   CD                       = ' '
    *   COMMANDLINE              = ' '
    *   INFORM                   = ' '
    *   PROGRAM                  = ' '
    *   STAT                     = ' '
    *   WINID                    = ' '
    *   OSMAC_SCRIPT             = ' '
    *   OSMAC_CREATOR            = ' '
    *   WIN16_EXT                = ' '
    *   EXEC_RC                  = ' '
    * IMPORTING
    *   RBUFF                    =
    * EXCEPTIONS
    *   FRONTEND_ERROR           = 1
    *   NO_BATCH                 = 2
    *   PROG_NOT_FOUND           = 3
    *   ILLEGAL_OPTION           = 4
    *   GUI_REFUSE_EXECUTE       = 5
    *   OTHERS                   = 6
    IF SY-SUBRC <> 0.
    * MESSAGE ID SY-MSGID TYPE SY-MSGTY NUMBER SY-MSGNO
    *         WITH SY-MSGV1 SY-MSGV2 SY-MSGV3 SY-MSGV4.
    ENDIF.
    Both the function modules are obsolute!
    Also, check for there alternatives.
    Thanks,
    Augustin.

  • Log File on Desktop From Java HotSpot

    A colleague's PC has a log file on the desktop, created 28th October. Its title: 'hs_err_pid3268.log'
    Initially we were both concerned since Kaspersky had detected some viruses on his machine on it's nightly scan, however, looking at the log file I'm not sure whether to be worried or not! - It looks legitimate, if a bit odd...
    If somebody more knowledgeable could tell me firstly if it's anything sinister and secondly (if not) what may have cause it and whether it's an issue I should investigate on this machine.
    Thanks in advance, below is the contents of the text file. (As you can see I'm brand new to these forums, apologies if this is not the correct section for these kind of questions).

It is a crash file from the Sun/Oracle VM.
    It either got on the desktop because a user manually moved it there or because something is probably misconfigured (at least to me) in the environment.
    If you are creating java applications (programming in the java language) then you would need to figure out why the app crashed.
    If you are using java applications then you need to tell the vendor that it crashed. And you would not do that here.

  • Help, hidden file in desktop !!!

    sometimes, when i save some file on the desktop they seems to disappear. I cannot see them, but when I try to open them with a specific program I can see an open them. what happen?
    Thx in advance.

    Have you tried to view them by clicking on Finder and then to Desktop?
    I have encountered it before , when that happened it did not appear on the background(Desktop) but it appear on Finder and as soon as i clicked it, it appeared on the baackground again.
    You can always avoid this saving it to other locations other than desktop.

  • Show and Restore Hidden Files From The TM Interface.

    Hello All,
    Just wondering if anyone knew how to restore hidden files and folders from the Time Machine interface. For example how to navigate to ~/.bash_login or ~/.profile or get to /etc and restore with TM. Do not think there is a command line interface for TM but that would be very cool. If anyone knows and solutions to this issue, thank you in advance for your help.
    anemic

    Thank you V.K. the menue -> go worked for me and no I do not see the private etc tmp or other in / in finder, always navigated there in terminal.
    The reason I was asking was that I corrupted my sudoers files by editing with TextMate and not vi but fixed now, thanks to your help. Restored, edited with visudo and works great. As far as editing files in /etc there are many that sometimes need to be edited by hand but sure that there are other ways of doing so, just not aware, such as ssh_config, sshd_config, hosts, httpd, apache2, bashrc, and others. All pervious edits have been fine using TextMate -w but seems that sudoers is a different animal.
    Thanks V.K. sudo command restored. Hope this helps others.

  • Hidden files on my desktop

    Hi there - I've just purchased OSX 5.6 (which is the highest OS I can get for a pre Intel machine I believe) but before it comes I was just doing a general tidy up. When linking my computer to an old G4 PowerBook (using OS9 don't ask why), once mounted I noticed some folders on the desktop of my G5 that do not show up normally. (I can only view them after mounting the G5 PPC onto the G4 PowerBook and looking on there). The folder names are all proceeded by a "." +which I think indicates a hidden file+. I know that there normally are very important files that are purposely hidden and are vital to the OS (e.g. ".DS_Store" etc.) but these particular folders do not seem to be in that category after investigation.
    I have a US client and I download lots of very large files via their FTP server using Fetch. When viewing the contents of the strangely named "hidden" folders that I can only see on the G5 once connected to the G4PB I then see very familiar names and enclosed folders from my US client containing around 40Mb of info each that cannot be accessed directly from my G5.
    *My questions are:*
    What are these files and why are they there - are they aborted efforts of previous FTP downloads?
    Are they partial downloads waiting for more info - and if I delete them will it mess everything up?
    Can I delete them directly from the G4 PowerBook, the only place I can I can see them?
    If not can I purchase some software that will allow be to view hidden files on my G5PPC and evaluate and get rid of them?
    Any help would be very much appreciated. Regards - Deano
    +PS: If it helps the hidden folders are named:+
    .BAHmpVUM
    .BAHrDXsQ
    .BAHvWION

    Thanks again Limnos -
    The Fetch people have been back to me already - not bad huh? - and had the following to say:
    "+Hi Deane,+
    +I'm not sure where those folders are coming from, but I can tell you that they aren't created by Fetch - nothing Fetch does would create such folders. So no, we don't think they are partially downloaded files.+
    +I would be a little careful before deleting them. They could just be an artifact of how the Mac OS X file system looks to Mac OS 9; it could be that they are not real copies of files, but just pointers (aliases) to other files on your disk, so deleting the folders and their contents might unexpectedly delete files you really want to keep on your Mac. I would make sure that is not the case before deleting a lot of them; you might want to delete one file you're sure you don't care about first.+
    +And you might want to look at them on your G5 directly. You can display hidden files on your G5 by doing the following:+
    +* Open the Applications folder.+
    +* Open the Utilities folder.+
    +* Open the Terminal application.+
    +* At the prompt, type:+
    +defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES+
    +* And then press the Return key.+
    +* Then go to the Apple menu and Log Out, or Restart your Mac, for the changes to take effect.+
    +Unfortunately showing the hidden folders has a variety of other side effects (such as making all your icons look washed out), so you'll probably only want to do this so you can investigate, and then turn it off again.+
    +You can turn it off by following the exact same steps as above, except type NO instead of YES after "AppleShowAllFiles".+
    +I hope this helps.+
    Thanks,"
    Pretty much backs up what you wrote in your first post but I think I'll try the route you suggest in your second and tuck them away somewhere for a week or so to see what happens. If all goes well I'll be back to credit your answer with a solved.
    Cheers for the help - Deano

  • How do I remove a file to trash from my desktop? when I drag to trash it says I cannot delete

    I'm a seasoned iMac user but forgot from the "old days" how to delete a file to trash from the desktop when it says "The item ......can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted". This is a file I downloaded a few days ago. Can you help, please?

    Thank you for answering- I must have posted the question twice. Another helpful person helped me solve it. I have to shake my head at my dumb self.....all I needed to do was restart the machine and the file disappeared. A total "duh" moment for this "seasoned" Mac user. Again, thanks for answering.

  • How do I stop Windows 7 from searching hidden files and folders

    In XP it was simple with the intuitive Advanced Search Options.
    Even if you enable "Don't show Hidden Files and Folders" in Windows 7, they still show up in the search menu.  A similar post included a suggestion by a support dude to post a question here.  I've searched for every possible solution and yet something so simple appears to be non existent.  Has Microsoft just lost its mind with omitting this feature?  Is this something that will never be solved?  Indexed or not, hidden files and folders still appear in Search.
    Thanks

    what have you setup in Explorer->Organize->Folder & Search Options?
    Don't show hidden and Hide: Empty, Protected, etc. all ticked
    if you have at some stage indexed all those system folders, and subsquently removed those from the index scope, then you may need to rebuild the index so those results are not presented by searches?
    i've assumed that you are getting things like \windows included, and this seems to be typical. perhaps because some common tools like notepad, wordpad etc reside in those folders.
    have you checked out the Indexing Options?
    from memory, "don't show hidden & system" really only obscures the stuff when you're browsing in explorer. the indexing engine doesn't respect that kind of setting. you'll need to get your indexing scope worked out to affect the search results presented.
    I'm not concerned much with indexing, it's just amazing that there is no option to stop "Search" from searching hidden files and folders when "Don't show hidden" is checked - the way it was with XP, etc.  As I understand it whether folder is indexed or not, will not stop "SEARCH" from searching them.  It was quite simple in XP but in Windows 7 it seems it is impossible.

  • Does Air allow file downloads/transfers to desktop from inside app?

    Hello,
    I am looking into writing an air application that I intend to put onto a usb thumb drive. If a Mac or Pc user plugged the said usb drive into their computer, would the user of the app be able to easily download/transfer files directly onto their desktop from the app with a push of a button?
    Secondly, would I be able to display a progress bar showing how much time is left in the download/transfer?
    Lastly, if Air is bad choice for this, does anybody have any other recomendations?
    Thank you all in advance!

    Yes if you build your app with captive runtime you can put it on a thumb drive and copy anything anywhere you want.
    You cannot get the progress of any given file's copyTo(), it does not support that event.  However if you have lots of files, you could simply count them and average.  The progress bar won't be compeltely accurate, but even on the native OS those progress bars are always wrong.  (like windows knows how long that folder copy is really going to take...)  You could also try to do something tricky like use File.download() from a URLRequest built on file://, but I'm not sure it would work.  If you played around with it, you probalby could.
    If you have enough files, just count the files and make the progress bar be a % of the number of files transferred.
    Also remember to copyToAsync() so that it runs in the background and your progress bar is smooth.
    EDIT: please note that a captive runtime will be windows or mac specific (and wont run at all on linux).  As a result if you need to give your thumb drive to people with both OS's you'll have to bulid your application twice.  Also you'll have to have access to both a windows machine and a mac to do that, since you cannot publish for mac on windows and vice-versa.

    how i can reach to my PDF files in my computer's desktop from my Adob Acount ?

    I do not quite understand what you are trying to achieve.
    You can upload your files to the cloud (Acrobat.com), then access these files from anywhere.

    new user...how do you drag or move or copy a file or folder from the desktop to an external drive?  I have tried dragging and copy/pasting.

    My guess the problem you are running into is the drive is formatted for a PC as NTFS. OS X can read files from NTFS however it cannot write to it. Check the formatting on the drive, if it's NTFS then it should be reformatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled), you can use Disk Utility to do this.
    If you still have a PC and want to share the EHD with the PC and Mac please read MacWorld's Share an external drive between a Mac and a PC article.
