Hidden Messages

Hi,
When I go on 'get info' and look at the 'account info' window, it says that I have 60 in drafts, 70 in sent and about 4600 in inbox. The thing is I don't have nearly as many emails as that! I have none in drafts and sent, and about 70 in my inbox. I have found various folders in my library files with all my old drafts, sent and inbox messages which I thought I had deleted ages ago! I have deleted the old drafts and sent ones, but I can't delete the old inbox ones because there are thousands there and some of them are of the 70 that I want to keep.
Does anyone know what to do about it and how to prevent it from happening in the future?

Well, this is relevant information that you should have mentioned in your first post. I don’t know what’s going on in that case. It could be an HTTPMail plug-in issue...

Hi all -
Is anyone able to help me? As part of a scavenger hunt, I have a photo that has a hidden message in it. I will post the photo here. I have played with the contrast, hue and colors, and know the information is thee, I just cant get to it. Does anyone have a few minutes to try and manipulate the photo to find the hidden message for me?

How to find hidden message in photo

I have been given a photo as part of a puzzle. There is a message hidden in the photo. It is most probably GPS coordinates. Is there a way to find the message using photoshop? The image is a .gif.
I would be grateful for some help.

Photoshop was not designed to help with solving puzzles. You can exercise your puzzle solving skills with things like trying to find Waldo in the images from the following link.

Hidden Message Box

Hi all. I would like to pop up an information message saying: "Your data has been saved." after the data has been saved in the data base. So, I try to do this:

Other possibility could be showing a message in the same jsp page (in a group message or something) saying the same text, "Your data has been saved". But if I throw a FacesMessage, it stops executing because it is treated as an exception.

Use an Image Hyperlink component instead of a button. Add an action handler for the component, just like you did for the button. In addition, use Page Navigation to draw a link from the Image Hyperlink to the .jsp with the message.
In the Properties window for the Image Hyperlink, set the target property to New window.
Set the image for the component to an image of a button.

From 10.3 to 10.4 Lost or Hidden Messages

I moved Mail from OS 10.3.8 to OS 10.4.6 and have everything in place and working well except my messages from INBOX and Sent Messages did not transfer.
In Home/Library/Mail/POP Acct - Inside both INBOX.mbox and Sent Messages.mbox I find a Messages folder but the only messages found in these folders are ones that were received or produced since installing the OS 10.4.6 (1 day old).
In OS 10.3 I had more than 4,000 small messages.
I have a cloned copy of my HD/OS 10.3.8 (connect via firewire mounted at the same time for comparison) and when I look in the same place in:
In Library/Mail/POP Acct. xxx/ INBOX.mbox/Messages folder
I can't see any messages but when I boot up to the 10.3 HD all the 4k+ messages appear in Mail.
As outlined in another posting I did as the incomparable Ernie Stamper suggested - I transfered both the com.apple.mail.plist from the Preference folder (Home/Library/Preferences) and the Mail folder?
Perhaps I should try trashing all of Mail in OS 10.4.6 and recopy all of Mail and Prefs from 10.3.8?
What else?
Any help on where my messages are hiding and how I can retrieve them would be very appreciated.

I have to cox.net accounts in Mail. When I switched a few days ago from 10.3 to 10.4, only a few recent emails showed up in my inboxes in 10.4. All of my Sent messages were intact. And of the few emails that showed up in the in boxes, this message appeared in the body area:
"The message from Skye Knotts <[email protected]> concerning “New quarterly access code from Equifax” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
So the message was lost even though the email itself remained. But hundreds of other emails did not transfer to 10.4. I don't know how to retrieve them.
I am receiving and sending emails just fine, however.

A couple of my drafts mailboxes have unread count in the 10s of thousands (but the list of messages is less than 20).

How to remove duplicate POP messages in Mail under Mavericks

I'm having some significant problems with Apple Mail, and despite having researched widely, I haven't been able to find a solution yet. Here is my tale of woe...
My set up is that I use Mail with 5 separate accounts, downloading all messages using POP. I keep ALL my mail (even the trash) so that I have a permanent record of all conversations, going back more than 10 years - this is about 250,000 emails in around 250 subfolders. I'm running the latest version of Mavericks on a 2010 MBP. I have no intention of moving to IMAP - I need to keep a local archive of all my mail.
A few months ago I was having problems with Mail being very slow to load and search emails. I decided to rebuild the mailboxes, but afterwards discovered that thousands of messages in the inbox of one of my accounts (and some of the sub-folders) had disappeared. Once I realised I tried to go back to a recent Time Machine back up, but, for whatever reason, that part of the back up hadn't worked properly and I was unable to recover the previous status. I left it while I decided what to do, and had time to deal with it...
The last 2 years worth of emails on that account were still archived on gmail, so last week I decided to try redownloading the whole lot (something like 72,000 messages), and then planned to use one of the scripts I was aware of to remove the duplicates to the trash, and then remove any duplicates in the trash forever. That ought to mean I at least had an archive of the last two years of missing messages, even if I had no record of which ones had been flagged or replied to, etc.
The downloading took about 24 hours to complete, and I now have almost 70,000 messages in the inbox of that account. I also rebuilt all the folders again, which doesn't seem to have resulted in any further loss of messages as far as I can tell. However, I hadn't figured on two things:
1. Mail 'hides' duplicate messages, meaning that all of the messages I've downloaded are showing as unread, and I can't differentiate the ones I already had in my Inbox, and the new downloads. When I click on those apparently unread messages I can see if they have been replied to or forwarded, etc, but there's no obvious way for me to remove the ones I have already dealt with to the trash, without going through them all manually, which is clearly impossible.
2. The scripts I'd found for removing duplicates don't work. Andreas Amann's Remove Duplicates script doesn't work under Mavericks, and he has abandoned the project. I've also tried the remove-duplicate-messages.scpt made by Jolly Roger (http://jollyroger.kicks-***.org/software/), and while it *sometimes* works on individual subfolders on my Mac (but as far as I can tell removes the duplicate in that folder, rather than the newly downloaded version), mostly it doesn't work at all - it creates a 'Remove Duplicate Messages' folder on my desktop, a log inside it and a folder for removed messages, but nothing appears in the duplicates folder.
So, I'm left in a position where I have 70,000 apparently unread messages in my Inbox, a massively bloated Mail library (which has pretty much doubled in size, because of the 'hidden' messages), a slow and unresponsive Mail program. I've come to the conclusion that there must be some corrupted email somewhere, which probably caused the original email haemorrhage, and may still be causing the inability to remove duplicates. Mail is so slow as to be almost unuseable.
I figure I have a number of options:
1. I could live with the situation and just archive most of the Mail in my inbox, with the side effect that there will be a bunch of messages I have never replied to that are missed.
2. I could abandon the last week's efforts and revert to the version of Mail I was using a week ago, and then redownload the recent emails from my various accounts. That would still leave me without those thousands of emails I lost on my local machine.
3. I could find another way to deal with this. Can I get the remove duplicates script working? Should I revert to the version of Mail from a week ago, download ALL the messages again, but do it in a way that allows me to find the duplicates and remove them? Should I move to another email program altogether (which would presumably be massively disruptive to my work!)
Anyway, apologies for the essay length of this request, and thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer!

thanks for the tip, but I don't think that solves my problem, which is that Mail apparently hides the duplicates, so they're still there, you just can't differentiate or remove them. I actually *need* the duplicates there so I know I've got everything, but then I need to be able to move the ones I know I've dealt with from my inbox to an archive/trash, and/or remove them completely so Mail isn't totally bloated

Create a report program and update the value of field "SELECTION" as above.
Then try to make changes in RSO2 as it needed.

Mail: "Message contains NUL characters," not listed in ANY folder

On occasion, I will hear a new message sound in Mail, and I will see the little progress indicator showing an incoming message, but there is no trace of it in the inbox. If I am there to see the incoming notice and remember the message content, I can search for the message content in Spotlight and it will open the message. But if I then click "Show in Mailbox," it opens a Mail list window that is empty and labeled "No mailbox." If I try to move the message by dragging its title bar icon, nothing happens. If I try to use the Move command, I get "Append failed: Message contains NUL characters." If I command-click the message title bar, it tells me it's inside the inbox, but again it won't list it in the inbox. The physical message file itself resides in the Inbox folder in the Mail folder on the desktop. Rebuilding the mailbox does not make it appear in the list.
I've found various workarounds for shaking Mail into realizing the message exists and listing it, but my real question is this: The above is when I notice that a message has come in but is not listed. But what about messages that come in and are not listed, and I do not know they are there because I wasn't around when they came in?
How can I use a mail rule or other tool to locate messages that are not listed in any mailbox, or contain NUL characters?
I would really like to know if I've missed any important messages because they never appeared in the list, even though they exist somewhere.
Mail will not allow me to set up a mail rule on folders when no folder is specified.

One thing I can suggest you try is to move the Envelope Index files from your User Library>Mail Folder>MailData.
Quit Mail first, navigate to those files and move them to the desktop. Restart Mail. It should give a message that you need to Import your mail. Click continue. That should reindex all your mail messages.
This should help with wrong message counts, ghost messages, and hidden message problems.
Once Mail is running and OK, you can trash those files.

Hidden Excite email and 1 invisible mail still in the In Box

I don't know if anyone can help me but I have an Excite email address which appears to have a hidden email which I can't delete.
The email account was used when I signed up to Google to send me email updates on a science paper I was researching and now when I delete all the mail in the In Box it shows one message still remaining in the index but the box is empty.
I don't use this email address much as it only gets spam now but I would like to know what's going on if the inbox is empty but the index at the side shows one email remaining in the inbox
I'm posting this in OSX Leopard but it happens from any computer as it's something you access via a browser. It does not matter which browser I use the hidden message is still there.

No Excite are pretty out of date with their webmail ~ I tried to contact them but no luck as yet.
It's been there for several months but it's about when the spam started ~ and of course the more you use the block and delete option the more spam you get as it appears to alert the people who send the spam.

Using OS 10.5.8, Apple Mail, new message symbol appears but not the mail

Using OS10.5.8, apple mail, it shows I have a new message but when I go to that mailbox there is no message. Then when a new message comes in, the first hidden message is now gone. What happened to it, was it really there in the first place?

Make a new Smart Mailbox that only includes Unread Mails, do they show in that Smartbox?
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

Sharing Libraries across accounts on one computer

I'd like to know an easy method to share iPhoto libraries across accounts on one computer. It looks like iPhoto is more or less ignoring this topic. I have searched the web for tips, found some, yet the instructions are complicated and what seemed to be the best one didn't work. Anyone in this forum that can help me?

-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

When she purchase iPhone 4S, didnt realised she need to download Find Phone, has she thought it was already in iPhone 4S, system. I approved lots Apple Store in Malaysia, non could help me and all said the same, if you don't download Find Phone, there's no way you can trace it back. No doubt what they all had said is not wrong....but my heart said, am sure there's always a way to track or trace it back even without the Find Phone Apps. Knowing myself don't have such powerful system to find the phone back. Every Poison there's Anti-Dos for it. I know you have the power and system to track & trace the phone back by Apple. If Apple can build such powerful smart phone am sure there's always a way for you there to trace or track it. I had seem movies which even show but not many able to see the hidden message in movie or etc. All my wish was to least Delete or JAM the system by using the serial number or code which you produce in every iPhone 4S or etc. Least the person who took it, would not able to used it at all even if they wannt jail break it or does anything to iPhone 4S. Least they could do is either throw it away or return to Apple Store in individual country. I know what am asking might be impossible to asked, but its the impossible which its not impossible.
1st: Why build a system which so smart with all serial no and codes, but the "Find Phone" its not one of the Apps for iPhone?
2nd: Why must customer need to download "Find Phone" Apps and the rest of the Apple Apps in inside the Phone...? Doesn't make sense....
3rd: In any movie, you watched they will break the phone or throw it away and so they are not able to trace the person but the phone still can be trace or track...unless the person break the chips or put into Fire to destroy it completely, then YES, i believe it can't be trace or track.
Please kindly in your power to help or advice or bring this up to Apple Team Mind before all perfection to make iPhone....Metta
