Hidden metadata ... ?

Hi,
if I search for images (JPEG) with a certain string in "All metadata" I get photos as result that do not contain this string in one of their visible metadata tags ... Thus, I assume that there are hidden metadata, Bridge does not display.
Can I make them anyhow visible and Bridge? And can I edit/overwrite them, even if there are no standard tags?
Thank you!

The problem: In the Preferences Dialog I can only enable metadata that are known by Bridge ... e.g. the common IPTC core metadata.
But if I use the search function of Bridge searching in "All Metadata", Bridge seems to search in much more metadata, than it shows in the Metadata Panel and that is available in the Preferences.
For example, I searched for a string, that was written in the "OwnerName" of the Camera. And the "File Info..." was the only way to see and read this "Owner Name" and the way via scripting was the only way to edit this entry.
And tags are for me the metadata entries - e.g. ISO, fstop, shutterspeed, copyright, location, ... What's the correct name these things?
I don't know if there is a definition of tags, but for me a tag is an item where I have created a field, while metadata are items that the camera sets.  Technically I think it is all metadata, but that is the distinction I make for my own mindset.
I believe that you can not search for something that is not checked or listed in metadata preferences.  But then I could be wrong.   Could not find OwnerName so unsure exactly where you are looking in File Info.   If this is a field there is no way the camera would know this unless your inputted the value to the camera.
There are some fields the camera may have that Bridge does not acknowledge.  There may be ways to add this, but I don't know how.

  • Hidden metadata in jpegs

Is there a version of photoshop that can help me see the hidden metadata (original time/date made) from a jpeg sent to my iphone via a text message? The time/date I transfer the jpegs from text to my phone ends up being the time/date shown. The EXIF is most likely still with the file but I can't see it, but I would like to see if any version of photoshop can expose this hidden data.

  • Editing hidden metadata in MP4?

I've been trying to organize my music collection as of late, and this task includes cleaning up the metadata for more effecient viewing on my iPod.  I've come across a bit of a quandary, though, specifically regarding MP4s purchased directly through iTunes.  It seems to me that there must be hidden metadata associated with these files (searches both here and on Google seem to back this theory up, as well) ... metadata that is not editable by either iTunes itself, nor the third-party program "mp3Tag."
It is proving quite problematic to my organization as a whole.  Specifically, I have been removing album info from most of my collection, and these hidden tags seem to override what I have designated not only for the song in question, but every other song with removed album info when viewed on the iPod.
I have found that I can circumvent this problem by having iTunes create an MP3 version of the song, then deleting the purchased version; however, I am mildly concerned with loss of quality in converting from lossy to lossy in this way.
So... the question.  Is there any way to actually edit these apparently hidden metadata values?  My research into the subject has only found 8-year-old posts that direct me to long discontinued, no longer available software.  If not, is there any way I might convert to MP3 without quality loss?  As I understand it, you can't get lossless formats through iTunes via download.

Fortunatly, I was wise enough to make a backup of my collection before starting in on this process, so hopefully any regrets had will be limited at worst.
The tags in question, though, don't appear to be editable by any program I've yet run across, though they (the tags) clearly exist.
Below is an example of these as viewed in Notepad++, on a song that I (for the purposes of this test) stripped all metadata from in both iTunes and MP3tag.

I hadn't considered giving them a common album title, rather than just removing it outright.
    *tests that*
While it does what I need it to do on the iPod, unfortunately, it would completely wreck usability on iTunes itself.  Back to the drawing board.
A quick recap of my options...
    - Accept the fact that I wont be able to change these tags, and have a slightly more "littered" album cover view on the iPod.
    - Restore my backups and go back to a purely playlist form of organization.
    - Convert all iTunes-purchased songs from M4A to MP3 to "scrub" the hidden tags, and suffer potential quality loss.
Looks to me like the only sensible answer is to go back to playlists.

  • How to edit hidden metadata tags?

Hi, how can I edit the hidden metadata tags used for television (season, episode, etc.) ? I know that iTunes automatically inherits metadata tags from mp4 files, but I am using avi files wrapped in a quicktime media link. Is there a way to do this directly? Alternatively, is there a way to wrap a media link in a mp4 file?

Having looked around, I can only find two programs that support editing these "hidden" tags: Lostify and Atomic Parsley. Lostify is limited to MPEG4 video, and Atomic Parsley is limited to MPEG4 in general (.mp4, .m4a, .m4p, .m4v, .m4b). There doesn't seem to be a tool out there that lets you, say edit the iTunes Music Library.xml file, which would be dang handy.
    http://home.comcast.net/~lowellstewart/lostify/
    http://atomicparsley.sourceforge.net/
Has anyone come across any other options?
What I find particularly exasperating is that "rational" hand-editting of the XML file seems to have no impact (e.g., I have a bunch of podcast episodes that were downloaded individually, since they had fallen off the end of the podcast RSS... and there is no way to seamlessly merge them into a single podcast stream -- or to kick them all into the "Music" section of the library).
For that matter, short of re-encoding files, it seems that I'm stuck with Apple's decision about which of my files are audiobooks and which are music...

  • Editing incorrect video Podcast Metadata / Tag

Anyone have a solution for correcting a Podcast's hidden metadata tags so iTunes will properly identify a Podcast instead of filing it as a Movie?
Besides Lostify and vID_Infiltr8, which do not have the Podcast stik tag, or at least I couldn't find it anywhere.
I have nine TEDTalks video Podcasts that iTunes files as Movies. There are a total of 64 TEDTalks video Podcasts available, but iTMS only offers 55 of them. I downloaded 14 directly from TEDTalks and iTunes recognized 5 of them correctly, it is the remaining 9 that need metadata added or corrected so that iTunes will properly identify them as Podcasts instead of Movies.
I know this should probably be in the Producing Podcasts thread, but this sort of question is sort of beneath that level of technicality, know what I mean?

OK. This is yet another reason why I get frustrated with Apple at times. They INSIST on doing things FOR me without telling me when they do it or why (iTunes gapless playback scan for example).
On that note, IMO it's a bit arrogant of Apple to add proprietary and non-editable tags to the ID3 standard. You can change the Video Type in iTunes, but unless you use some cumbersome 3rd party utility or the import/export method mentioned in other posts, there is NO way to change the podcast flag.
Unfortunately, the iPod itself uses the same tag/database structure as iTunes, so if you use Anapod (as I do) to transfer files, you have no control over how videos and podcasts show up on the pod (Red Chair Software has yet to respond to my inquiries about adding this ability).
Edit the video type in iTunes? Sure. Problem is, it seems Anapod's database structure differs slightly from iTunes... If you mount an Anapod-managed iPod in iTunes, when you unmount and try to play files on the iPod itself, only the ones that were played in iTunes will play!!! All other tracks will get skipped over until you rebuild the database in Anapod.
Now, my wife has my old iPod photo with all my music on it, and she likes iTunes. When she opened the iPod in iTunes, about 1/4 of the tracks were labeled as podcasts (some with explicit content...lol). Of course when she later tried to play music on the iPod itself, everything would skip and I had to rebuild the database (as mentioned above). Now she uses Winamp with no trouble.
So... Does anyone know of a GUI (not command-line) based method of editing these "hidden" tags?
Sorry for ranting but thanks for listening.

  • When trying to load multiple language versions of an ibook onto my iPad only the first document loads

We have a sales tool that we have created for one of our clients in iBooks Author. They need the iBook creating in various languages.
We need to be able to supply the multiple versions of the same document (in the different languages) to our client and they need to be able to install the different versions onto their iPads. And they want the options of having multiple language versions on the same iPads.
We have already created two language versions of the document (a US English and an International English version).
The two documents have different file names, (although they are based on the same document). We have just changed the spelling of some words accordingly. (And we will be producing other language variants based on the master file).
We export the two documents via the File > Export > iBooks option. Then we are using Dropbox to upload the two files. The files are then accessed via the Dropbox App on the iPad.
We can download the first document (International English) onto the iPad and view it as normal, but when we try and then download the other document (US English) it downloads in the Dropbox App, but when you click on view in iBooks it opens the first (International English) document into iBooks.
You can only appear to have one version of the document installed at any one time. If you delete the first one you can then load the second one fine, but not both at the same time. If the file names are different it must be getting the identity of the document from somewhere else.
This has only started happening since using iBooks Author 2.
Can anyone offer any suggestions please. I've tried changing the version number in the option on export, but this doesn't seem to affect the result.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
    John

Further to my earlier post we have now completed a test by saving our original document as a template, then creating a new document from the template, making necessary changes and saving as a new file. We can now upload the two separate versions to our iPad.
You cannot "duplicate" the file in any way, either by the File > Duplicate method from within iBooks Author or by simply Duplicating the original .iba file in the Finder, as this will cause the problem outlined above. By Duplicating you are obviously also duplicating this "hidden metadata" which is stored somewhere within the file which iBooks on the iPad is using to identify the documents. So unless Apple update the software to allow us to change that metadata we are stuck to using the Templates route. (Didn't have this problem on the last version of iBooks Author).
This works for what we are trying to do, which is create different language variants of the same book.
Working from Templates is probably the correct way to do it anyway, but might not necessarily be right for everyone.
Working in iBooks Author is proving to be a rather testing experience. You certainly need the patience of a Saint. Not sure it's of the standard we expect from Apple, but then I guess, as they are giving it away "free", they think they don't have to offer any support for it.
I think I would prefer to pay a fee for it and have a support route from Apple, rather than rely on a community of equally frustrated users who are all playing guinea pig and simply sharing their workarounds for a half baked product.
    Good luck to everyone!!!

  • How do I find the creation date of a pdf file when the user did not enter one (doesn't show up in properties)?

The data is not there at all. My mention of hidden metadata (perhaps confusing) is to emphasise that there IS NO hidden metadata, because that would be a Bad Thing.

  • Idoc scripting in workflow tokens

    Greetings,
A question for developers: up to what extent of Idoc Script calls can be made inside Workflow tokens? Only the function wfAddUser or other Idoc Script functions as well?
I'm trying to develop a dynamic workflow component that involves reading possible user, alias or ad-hoc metadata values from a database table using a custom Idoc Script function, into a token. So basicly, something like this:
    <$wfAddUser(customIdocScriptFunctionToFetchUsers(dDocType),"user")$>
Is anything like this possible at all? Tests done so far result in the content item entering and exiting the workflow automatically due to probably being unable to load the users, the strange thing is that no erros are being output, not even in the content server output with "workflow" or "idocscript" sections being traced...
The point of this mechanism is to avoid having to create large ammounts of (hidden) metadata to serve as support to store users/alias to be loaded into workflow steps as tokens. Feel free to suggest any other alternatives tho :p
    Thanks in advance,
    - Tiago Vidigal

    Hey Tiago,
Typically you try to limit your token script to just wfAddUser. It is possible to use basically any idoc script in a token but any failure at all will result in the behavior you are seeing with the item skipping straight through the step.
Using your current design here is what I would do:
-In the entry script for that step make your call via the custom script function
-Store the result of the lookup into a workflow variable: <$wfSet("usersForStep", getCustomUsers(dDocType))$>
-do your wfAddUser in the token: <$wfAddUser(wfGet("usersForStep"), "user")$>
-Sidenote: You can add multiple users at once in one wfAddUser call if you pass a comma delimited string of the usernames
Reason this works: the Entry script is always evaluated before a token when entering a step, meaning you can put any complex logic there where it is easier to debug and keep your token code clean.

  • Premiere cs6/cc confusing spanned-clips Canon C300

    Hey
    Bit of a strange one...
We have Adobe Creative Cloud installed on 5 suites (resently updated to CC from CS6) when using CS6 we had a problem when ingesting footage from the Canon C300. When ingesting spanned clips CS6 seems to get the order of the clips mixed up, so the start of the clip will be around the middle. There is no jump in the timecode, so it would appear CS6 is just placing the spanned video files around the wrong way, but the metadata (where a assume the timecode is stored) is correct.
I thought upgrading to CC would solve this but it appears it hasn't. I just installed CC on my home machine which has never had CS6 on it and this probelm hasn't occurred, which meant when I opened up an edit that I started at work it had all been shifted around! Very Annoying!!!
Has anyone came across the same issue?? Seems strange it has happen on all our machines. I've tried uninstalling CS6 and then install CC but doesn't seem to work, would appricate any help on this
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi,
just to underline your point: we have had the same issues since CS6 and it persists until today (CC 7.01).
What makes things even stranger is that I had a 55 min+ clip (from a Canon C300), spanned into 11 MXF segments.
When I imported it via the Media Browser from a portable hard drive it came in as a single clip maintaining the correct order of the segments. I then copied the hard drive's contents to our SAN (maintaining the file structure, of course).
Then I imported the clip again, it came as one clip like before - but the order of the segments within the clip was completely random, every 5:15 min there was a visible "cut" within the clip.
So maybe PPro uses some hidden metadata of the files to determine their order and those metadata get lost on their way to the SAN. I can only speculate.
I tried creating new projects, using a windows machine instead of a Mac, but to no avail.
Our temporary (yet annoying) solution is to "destroy" the files structure and then import and concatenate the segments manually.
    Are you on a SAN?

  • BUG: can't download multiple iBooks from same Author, workaround found

    Hello,
    Symptom:
We created ~12 iBooks (files) but the iBooks app in iOS wouldn't accept more than one iBook.  You could download the files via various channels (Google Drive, Safari, etc.) and try to "Open In... iBooks" but only the first iBook you installed would open (and later be visible).  You cannot also download a newer version (same name) of the first iBook.  If you delete the first iBook, you can again download/install/open just file.  This is a bug.
    Root Problem?
We created later iBooks by changing the content of the previous one and then saving it.  We believe there is unique 'project' metadata within each new iBook project you create (from which iBook files comes). This is not visible or configurable within iBooks Author.  We think the iBooks app sees that project metadata, thinks its the same book , and then opens that first iBook.  The file you downloaded is on the device but the iBook database can't accept it not the bookshelf present it.  Its likely orphaned within the device.
    Workaround
Until Apple fixes the bug, the workaround is to always create a 'new' iBooks project in iBook Author for each iBook you wish to publish.  If you need to re-use content, copy-paste it from the old project into the new one.
    Solution
Perhaps iBooks (app) could sense the name, author, and version number when iBooks Author saves the .ibook file and treat that combination (maybe as a hash) as the unique version value.

    Hi KayNeine
Thanks for your post with this workaround. This certainly seems to tally with my experience and the hidden metadata theory does seem to answer why it is happening. Just need Apple to acknowledge and address the problem.
As this Support Community obviously isn't moderated by Apple can I suggest as many people as possible use the iBooks Author Feedback Form to report their issues. Hopefully then, someone at Apple might take note and try and rectify these problems.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ibooks-author.html
This is available from the iBooks Author App in the menu: iBooks Author > Provide iBooks Author Feedback.

  • Difference between mov, m4v and mv4?

I had a "large" mov-file and saved it as H.264 in QuickTime Pro, still with the .mov suffix in the name. The result was a folder with .mov.mov suffix containing among other files a .mov-desktop.m4v file and a .mov-poster.jpg file.
Now I did not want to create a webpage, just send someone the resulting H.264 file. I deleted the desktop-part of the file name ending up with just .mov and tested it. I played in Quicktime, so I sent it.
The recipient could not open it. QuickTime reported "movie could not be opend. It is not a movie file".
Renaming the file .m4v makes it open and play in iTunes. .mv4 does not work. QuickTime reports the same error.
Why is QuickTime so picky about filenames? Or rather: Why doesn't QuickTime object to the .mov file on my disk but rejects the very file after a tour on the internet? Is this the result of hidden metadata in MacOS?
If that is the case, I would prefer QuickTime to display an error when a mismatch between metadata and suffix is detected.

Open the .m4v file with QuickTime Pro and use Save As to place it in a .mov container.
No re-encoding done on the file and very fast. It will also make a "fast start" (progressive download) file.
Upload the file to your server and include just the link in the email. The recipient can then "copy" the link, open the free QuickTime Player, "Open URL" (File menu) and paste the URL. The file will begin playing almost instantly.
Too much work for a louse.

  • Hidden column expecting metadata

When I try to save a doc to a specific doc library Word says that metadata is missing or invalid but according to the DIP nothing is missing. So I go into the content type and unhide a couple of columns (setting them to optional) just to see if they are
    causing an issue.
When I go to the DIP now, one of the previously hidden columns is showing as required.
How can that be? How can a hidden column be expecting a value to be supplied. This column may have been required at some stage but has since been set to hidden. Surely this action would take away the requirement for metadata for that column?
There doesn't seem to be an option (under edit column) to remove the requirement which convinces me that this may be a bug?

  • Custom view metadata hidden from standard check in

I created some views for custom profiles, my problem is that my custom metadata is being displayed on standard check-in also, is there any ways to have this custom metadata displayed only on my custom profile and not in standard check in as well? if i disable the field in user interface in the configuration manager then it'll disappear from both standard check in and my custom metadata.
    any ideas? thanks a lot

When copying you can put any BSP name..normally the practice is to prefix the standard name with a Z.
Secondly when you want to make changes to the individual classes and methods you need to right click and say enhance. Then the AZ class names etc would be generated. The view should appear in the component wherein you copied the original view from.
    I hope this helps.
The cookbook should have details on this. Otherwise also its quite intuitive.
    Award points if it helps.
    Thanks.
