Hidden photos in iPhoto

I worked on an image stored in an event folder in iPhoto and saved it as a newly named jpg file and also as a psd file back to the same event folder, but when I open iPhoto and look through the contents of the event folder, I can't see either of these files.
I see all of the original files in the event folder, just not the ones I saved under a new name after editing in Photoshop.
I can use search in finder and find them OK, and also open them again in Photoshop using the recent files option, but I can't see them in the iPhoto event folder when I am in iPhoto.
Can anyone please tell me how to make these photos appear visible in iPhoto?
Thanks a lot for any advice.

Luis:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

No, not selected photos within one library.
You could create a separate library for your secret photos and put this library on a password prtected sparse bundle, or keep this library in a separate user account.

  • Lost or hidden photos in iPhoto 9.4.2

Recently I lost a small group of photos I downloaded to iPhoto. There was 20 photos and a couple of small video streams. I filled up the 16GB card while shooting. Took the card from the camera and added another card and continued shooting. Later I put the 16 GB card in my MacBook Air which has about 10 GB of space left on the flash drive and downloaded the photos. I am traveling at the moment and did not have a back up external HD with me. I disconnected the card and then reviewed and edited the photos in iPhoto. Later I showed a couple of the photos to family. This morning the photos are gone or hidden. In events there is a thumbnail reflecting the date I downloaded. The thumbnail cover photo is a grey silhouette palm tree with no photos in this event album. I reconnected the card and the photos are no longer on the card. I don't know what happened. Is there any way I can retrieve these photos.

At no point did I download 16 GB of information onto a drive with 10 GB of space. I guess I wasn't clear in my original note and question. There was about 10 GB of space on my MacBook Air. Yesterday I downloaded about 20 photos in JPEG format and a few videos, 30 sec to 1 minute in length, that I took that day, from a card that was full.  What's that, at max a couple of GB.
Later I downloaded another 1 or 2 GB of photos and video from a new unfilled 16 GB card. At that point I had about 6 GB of available space on the flash drive of my MacBook.
Then, after the 2 downloads I edited photos in the 2 event folders. When I was finished I showed my family a few photos from the first download from the full card. At some point the photos from the first download disappeared in iPhoto. The folder from the first download in iPhoto is still there but with a thumbnail grey silhouette palm tree but no photos. This morning I inserted the full memory card which is a Sansdisk Ultra Extreme. The rest of the information on the full 16GB card is still there but the 20 photos from yesterday are missing.
I am looking for a little help here from someone who will read each line of the email thread and give me some suggestions on what may have happened and what I can do in an attempt to recover the photos.
I just looked there is currently 8.25 GB of available space.

  • Restore hidden photos in iPhoto app

I hid some photos in an iPhoto app (IOS 5.1) and when I returned to the album they were gone. The selected hidden photos worked until I left the album and they remain in the Photo app.
Any ideas on getting them back into iPhoto?

Ok, I tested with a synced group of photos, and anything I've hidden I can still see if I click the number of photos in the photo browser. I've included some pictures to make sure we're talking about the same places.

  • Hidden photos in iPhoto not hidden in aperture after import

After importing all of my iPhotos into aperture, my hidden photos are being shown in aperture.  Is there a way to have my photos hidden in aperture as well?

    Not really.
Aperture has a seven-level rating scheme: no rating, 1-5, and "rejected".
I'm pretty sure (I don't know for certain) that photos hidden in iPhoto are assigned a rating of "rejected" when imported into Aperture via the iPhoto importer.
Rejected Images are not shown in the default Browser view of any container.  The purpose, however, is less to hide Images than it is to remove them from view prior to deleting or relocating them.
If you have Images you wish to hide from view of someone who has access to your Aperture Library, you should not include them in that Library.

  • Hidden photos in Photos.

Why aren't my hidden photos in iPhoto Events hidden in Photos anymore? The whole point of hiding them is so people cannot see them anywhere without unhiding them!

    The migration unhides them
    Show or hide photos
You can hide selected photos and show them only when you want to see them. Hiding a photo can be useful if you don’t want to use it, but you’re not sure you want to delete it.
Hide photos: Select the photo or photos, choose Image > Hide [number] Photos, then click Hide Photos. The selected photos disappear from your moments, but are not deleted.
Show hidden photos: Click Albums in the toolbar, then choose View > Show Hidden Photo Album. The Hidden Photos album appears among your other albums. To unhide photos in it, select them, then choose Image > Show Photo.

  • Hidden Photos Bug

I'm having a problem with hidden photos in iPhoto. I have some events where certain photos within the event are hidden, and some events in which every photo is hidden, effectively hiding the whole event. When I enable viewing of hidden photos, the photos within events with other photos show up, but not the hidden events, i.e., if I go into an event I can see the hidden photos within it but no more events show up on my events page, even though they should. If I then rehide the hidden photos and restart iPhoto, the hidden events show up on the Events page, but are empty (as all the photos inside them are hidden). However, under normal circumstances, the events themselves should not show up at all. If I enable hidden photos again, I am able to see the photos within the hidden events as I should, but there is no way to make the whole event disappear off the events page again. Basically, hidden events will not show up the first time I start iPhoto no matter how many times I toggle between showing and not showing hidden photos, and once iPhoto is restarted, the hidden events will not go away.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and then try again.

  • Deleting Hidden Photos

How do I delete my hidden photos from iphoto (without deleting each one individually, since I have a few thousand!)?

    First: Find them
    File -> New Smart Album
    Photo -> Is -> Hidden
Then Flag them and go Opton - command - delete
Which will move them to the trash.
    Then empty the trash.

  • IPhoto - Hidden Photos - Events Thumbnail Display Bug

_*iPhoto - Hidden Photos - Events Thumbnail Display Bug*_
iPhoto 08 contains a bug affecting the display of images that the user has marked as "hidden." Specifically, when the user toggles the View-Hidden Photos menu option, the Library-Events thumbnail view does not refresh quickly or reliably to show or hide Events containing "hidden photos."
Sometimes all "hidden" photos remain visible when they should be hidden.
Sometimes all "hidden" photos remain INvisible when they should be visible.
This affects the Event thumbnail "key photo" if this photo was designated as hidden.
This also affects any hidden Event photos when the user "skims" over an Event thumbnail to preview its contents.
The issue is isolated to Events thumbnails. The problem does not exist:
    a) while browsing thumbnails inside a specific Event.
    b) while browsing photos in Library-Photos.
    c) while browsing photos in an Album.
    _*"Fixes" that do NOT work:*_
Software updates... I have the latest version of OSX 10.5.2 and the latest version of iPhoto 08, including all the recent security and graphics system updates as of 02/16/2008.
Maintenance... The issue is NOT resolved by rebuilding the database, rebuilding icons, or deleting the iPhoto preferences file. The issue can be reproduced in a separate user account after creating a new event in an otherwise empty iPhoto database.
After much tinkering around, the following is the closest I've come to a
    _*TEMPORARY WORKAROUND:*_
To *NOT DISPLAY* hidden images, go to the View menu and make sure Hidden Photos *is not* checked. Restart iPhoto, and the hidden images should now be invisible.
To DISPLAY hidden images, go to the View menu and make sure Hidden Photos is checked. While the hidden images are now visible elsewhere, they may still be invisible in Events thumbnails, so restart iPhoto, and then wait about 10 seconds for the Events view to refresh with all the hidden thumbnail images now visible.
If after carefully reading this you feel you have a definitive solution, please post a reply with your suggestions. Otherwise, please post to confirm if you can reproduce the problem on your computer running iPhoto 08 on Leopard. If so, please also file an official bug report with Apple. The more people report this, the faster we'll get it fix.
    .

My Acrobat Pro 9 has also this bug. I am using XP SP2. I have reported this bug at Adobe web site many times. I wrote to the Adobe customer care. I wrote about this on many different forums and I was hopping an update with this bug fixed. I installed all updates till now bu the problem still exists. I do not know why Adobe is not caring about this stupid bug. It is really, really annoying. In my experience with Adobe Acrobat for about 10 years, Acrobat version 9 is the worst version I ever worked with. There are a lot of glitches and bugs in it, expecially with fonts, web version creation, password protection encryption etc etc.
If you find any fix please post back on this forum.

  • Scrolling through photos, restarting iPhoto: "Hidden Photos" are unhidden!

    Hi,
As you may know, iPhoto has this great feature where you can mouse over an Event to scroll through the photos in it. iPhoto also has another great feature - the possibility to hide photos!
However, here's when they both went wrong: I had a few Hidden Photos in an event, yet when I moused over it - they showed up! Just makes them not so hidden...
Also, when I last closed iPhoto, Hidden Photos were checked to show. As I opened iPhoto up again - they were still unhidden. It would be nice if they automatically hid themselves upon closing. Is there an Apple Script available for this?
In the same scenario, I hid the photos manually. And as I opened up a photo in an event up full screen, and browsed through the event using the arrow keys - a hidden photo appeared! This, as I understand - is a bug. Where would I report this?
    I hope you can help!
    Thank you for your time,
    Rudi

First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Then rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
    Happy Holidays

I have clicked the hidden photos in the view tab & then made a smart folder but the folder is empty?  I still have the hidden photos, but can't see or delete them, I can see them on my iPad & iPhone but can't delete them as they are not the host of the pics. I have deleted all my pics from iPhoto on my MacBook Pro to see if that will get rid of them but all my pics were gone apart from the hidden ones?. Help!

You can play it in a web browser but you must have a Facebook account and play it via that app.

  • How do I transfer photos in iPhoto to Photoshop?

Currently running iMac with Mavericks operating system. Need to transfer all my photos from iPhoto (version 9.5) to Photoshop CS5. Would appreciate any help!

It depends what you mean by "transfer." iPhoto manages photos in its own package while Photoshop doesn't store or manage any files, so "transferring" images from iPhoto to Photoshop doesn't make sense.
Do you mean you want to open iPhoto images in Photoshop? That part is easy, and there's more than one way to do it.
When you're looking at a photo thumbnail in iPhoto, drag it to the Photoshop icon in the dock. The image will open in Photoshop.
In iPhoto Preferences, click Advanced and use the Edit Photos option to choose Photoshop as an external editor. After you do that, pressing Return for a selected photo in iPhoto will pop it open in Photoshop for editing.
With either method, after you edit and save a new version in Photoshop, if you want to manage it in iPhoto you'll probably have to manually drag the new version to iPhoto. (Just don't save new files into the hidden folders iPhoto manages.)
While it's true that iPhoto keeps photos in a hidden package, the methods above let you easily use the photos in other Mac programs. iPhoto also has a File > Reveal in Finder command so you can always reveal the actual location of a file managed by iPhoto. This is useful if you want to copy a photo to a folder outside of the iPhoto Library so you can manage it with Bridge instead.
