Hidden tab won't close, constantly loading.

There's a tab on my Firefox that doesn't show on the window. It seems to be a tab that was previously open, that I thought I'd closed. While it doesn't show on the window, the tab preview when I mouse over it in the windows taskbar shows that the tab is still open. When I click the x in the preview, the tab won't close. Also on mousing over the tab, it shows that the page is blank, but it seems as though it is loading something. It may or may not be causing my computer to run slower than usual, but I can't be sure. Either way, it's annoying and the only way I can get rid of it is by restarting my browser, but even then after using the browser for a while another tab like that shows up and I run the same problem. How do I close a tab like this?
Extra notes:
The tab is not open from the start. It is not a homepage, as my homepage is set to about:blank, and opening a homepage upon starting my browser is disabled.
The tab is not visible on the Firefox window. It is only visible on the windows preview when mousing over the Firefox application in the windows taskbar.

When I click on a tab to close it I can see the red X press down but it won't close. I can open a new tab and I can click from tab to tab and the windows change. My mouse is working on every thing else, just can't close any tabs. There are six tabs open. This has been an ongoing.problem that seems to be getting more frequent. I usually do a restart and the problem goes away, but only for a short time. I don't

  • Loader/DNG Converter won't close after loading photos into Bridge

This is a very recent problem. Previously, after loading photos the loader would close, Bridge would open at the folder I created through the loader and that was it. Now after all shot are loaded, Bridge opens at the last folder I had open previously and the loader remains open. Clicking on the X box won't close it. I have to go into Task Manager to do this. I tried a full re-install to no avail. I've looked at preferences and don't see anything that helps.
I haven't done anything other than what I noted above. I tried re-installing PhotoShop and Bridge and that didn't fix the problem. The only other thing that has happened since I noticed this problem was that Windows updates automatically installed. I'm on Windows XP Pro SP3. The problem is not a show stopper but it is annoying.
Anybody have any ideas why this would happen and how to fix it?

OK, I tried changing the Preference by opening Bridge with the Ctrl key held down but I wasn't presented with the popup noted.
However -- D'OH! -- last night when I inserted my card into the reader and the dialog came up asking what I wanted to use to open I noticed that it was defaulting to Bridge CS3 (I still have some CS3 software on my machine). So I scrolled down, found Bridge CS4 and all is just fine. Thanks for the helps and tips. I do appreciate it. And I hope you can forgive my brain fart.

  • Tabs won't close? even if I click 'x', reverts to blank Firefox screen. android Sii mobile

I've just started using mobile Firefox, but it won't let me close ant tabs - there are 12 tabs item now. help! Even clicking 'x' only makes screen revert to a screen with adj there tabs shown that are active (12) of them.

Did exactly that.. as I mentioned, that got rid of the image of hte page, taking me to an overview of all the pages open, but when I then tap the upper right corner to show all the open pages again, it's still there, and still comes up and still reads '23' (I now have 23 pages open.. ugh)

  • Every other time FF is launched, address bar is static, 1st tab won't close.

This problem only happens every other time I open Firefox. It's two things, first, when I open Firefox my homepage loads, but the address bar is blank. And if I type something in like "google.com" it loads Google, but it doesn't automatically change the address to "http://www.google.com" like usual, it just keeps "google.com". Also when I have other tabs open and try to close the first one, it doesn't close.

    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Download links don't work, tabs won't close, and firefox not responding

Everything was working fine yesterday until I updated my computer with windows update. Aft5er that I wasn't able to download any gaming links from the piratesbay and other gaming sites, I would look to see what is wrong the I look in the url and I see a box with a circle with a line crossed over it like it wouldn't allow me to click the link. When I hover my arrow over it it would give me an option of allowing the blocked pop up, edit it etc. I did everything by clicking 'allow pop up,' 'block pop up,' everything, but it still didn't work. There are times where I would give up on downloading the link and exit the tab but then it wouldn't let me. I tried going to other tabs and it won't let me either. SO I had to restart firefox and it worked normally again.
I could hide firefox web browser but nothing else, yesterday I could exit the browser but when I click on it it won't work until I restarted my computer. Now, today I can't exit of firefox browser, so I had to restart my computer with the browser still active. Only then, did everything worked normally again. However, it would repeat the same process over and over.
What is wrong with firefox? I don't want to keep restarting my computer each time this happens.

  • Firefox 12 doesn't load bookmarks in sidebar, home pages don't open, undo closed tab won't work.

Firefox 11 worked fine. Firefox 12 seemed to install too fast. Now, when opening Firefox, bookmarks don't load in sidebar, even though the top of the sidebar says "bookmarks." Home pages won't load on opening Firefox---only a new tab. Clicking on the little house icon opens the home pages. Display closed tabs icon is dark and Undo closed tabs won't work. Sometimes the toolbar with File, Edit, View etc goes so dark it virtually disappears. I have Vista OS. Reinstalling Firefox 12 didn't help. Is there a fix, or can I go back to Firefox 11?
