Hidden Version Sets

When I have only "landscape" tagged photos (for example) shown in the organizer and try to expand a version set, PSE5 says I need to "go back to all photos". This is fine except that I have version sets that are tagged "hidden". Try to expand these; go back to all photos; of course they're not there. Any work around?
Thanks

I think the only workaround is to make the version set un-hidden. If you have a lot of these, you could create a tag Other > Formerly Hidden, assign that tag to all the hidden photos, remove the Hidden tag.  When you're done, select all photos with the Other > Formerly Hidden tag and make them hidden again.  Pretty klutzy.
This wart was fixed in PSE 6.

  • How to have my Jpg and RAW files in version sets (PSE10)

I take both jpg and RAW files on my camera so that most of the time I am pleased with the jpg and do little editing, but some of the time I need to really work on a photo which is where the RAW file comes in handy. In my photo well I have 2 of each picture displayed ie the jpg and RAW. How can I get it so only the jpg is displayed and the RAW either hidden or as a version set collapsed? Having 2 of each photo makes the photo well look untidy and full of duplicates.
    Help appreciated.

Highlight the two photos (using Ctrl+click), right-click on one of them and select "Stack...Stack Selected Photos".

  • Is there any way to restore version sets files?

About six weeks ago my machine crashed, I reloaded all my software following a restore on my primary hard drive. I was able to recover my catalogue, but instead of Approx. 20,000 photographs, the program showed 41,000+. All the version sets had been separated into individual items. I find that I can stack the photos as cohesive groups, on a one-at-a-time basis. I haven't made much headway (I began last week), but it looks as if I might be at it until the cows come home (or maybe they will die of old age, first). Besides, stacking isn't a very good solution for me. Version seta are very much the way for me to go.
Any help will be gladly and gratefully received.
    Thanks Larry
PS - I'm running Elements 4 on an XP operating system.

There were two drives on my machine when this happened; The C: drive is a 160Gb Seagate, and I also installed a 750Gb seagate. Originally, my photos were on C: but I was running out of room real quick, so I put in the 750, and the machine named it H: I moved the files to the larger drive, and changed the default in PSE to read H: I kept my software on C:
When the machine crashed, it wouldn;t recognize H: although, when Staples plugged it into their machine, all the files were intact. I needed to get an enclosure, and a bigger drive, to transfer again, as my picture files took up 400+Gb; that's when I re-installed all my software, and tried to recover my catalogue. PSE did recover a catalogue, but without the version sets tag, it also lost my category tags, (not as bad a catastrophe s the version sets).
OK, if you were able to "recover" a catalog at all, >> without reimporting every file <<, then the .psa file was probably backed up by Windows, and you dodged a really big bullet.
You can discover the location of the catalog fie by opening PSE, then choosing "Help" > "System Info ". The complete file path will be shown, but as dj_paige has mentioned, you would have to "make hidden files and folders visible" in Windows itself to find it. I have attached a typical PSE system info window, to show you what I mean.
You 750GB drive was originally recognized by Windows as a "Volume". is that correct?
The issue of Windows "not recognizing the 750GB Seagate HDD", is a problem with Windows, not with PSE. Usually all additional HDDs are picked up immediately. In other words they are "plug and play" However, if they are not, it is either an issue of the computer's "BIOS" not being set to the correct "mode", or something a bit simpler, they have to be "added to the system" This is done by choosing the file path; "Control Panel" > "Performance and Maintainence" > "Administrative Tools" > "Computer Management" > "Storage" >"Disc Management". This is in XP, Vista and Win 7 differ slightly.
You did a very smart thing by taking all your photos off "C:/", but since you were forced to do this, you don't get the points. I never build a computer with a large boot (OS) drive. It takes away the temptation of wanting to store anything but transient data on it.
This issue of category tags not being present, is also a slight blunder on your part. Every photo should be given the "File" > "Write Tags and Properties Info to Photos" treatment. If you don't do this, and even a "minor disturbance in the force" occurs, you lose those tags. If you do do it, then you could delete a file from your catalog, and reimport it 6 months later, and the tag will still be attached.
Whatever happens, in the future you need to be aware of the current location of your current catalog (.psa) file, and back it up frequently (manually), to a safe place away from "C:/". Beyond that, if disaster strikes, you should have all you info about the photos, save for anything that was inported after the backup. I do not mean to suggest this a replacment for properly backing up with PSE, but rather an additional safety precaution.

  • Can no longer save edited images in version set with PS 10.

I've been using PS 10 for many months and have been able to save my edited raw images as jpgs in version sets.  I can no longer do this.  The edited images save on the hard drive but not in the PS organizer...thank you for any help you can offer....

Ok, you need to know what you want to do with your image. For example if it's for the web the best way to save to jpg is..  File-Save for Web, then you will see a Box with four pages,,  you can choose: Original which is going to be your original image,... Optimized which is a Lower quality version. 2-Up and 4-Up.
when you click on 4-Up Tab you see your original image in the top left, Also you have your image in 3 different windows with different file size and speed. You can click on each window and inside the Preset in Top right choose JPEG. and you can change the quality from Low to High or Drag the Quality Slider for different quality.
NOTE: when you do File-Save For Web,, you are going to have a flatten Image.. you will loose your Layers.
It is always better if you shoot your images In higher Res, such as 240, or 300 dpi, and later Down-sample the image to a lower quality for the web. If you have the original image at Higher Res, First you should Go to Image Image-size For Example Height 1200 Pixel. If you go ahead and save the file for the web then you don't need to change the Resolution. don't forget to Sharpen your image when you Down-sample

  • Support Photoshop Elements 5 Stacks and Version Sets

I would like to see stacks in Lightroom that work the same way as those in the Photoshop Elements 5 Organizer. PSE5 stacks are far more capable than Lightroom ones. (Can stack across multiple folders, can include version sets in stacks, etc.)
Additionally, I would love to see support for PSE5 Version Sets. These are similar to the "Stack with original" option, but work more smoothly (latest version is always automatically on top, for example).
Since Adobe has already implemented these in PSE5, you would think it would be pretty simple to also include them in Lightroom.

  • PS Elements Version Sets = Duplicate Images in Revel

I am using Elements 12 and Revel. I have a very large library with many version sets containing my master RAW file and an edited JPG copy. Prior to Revel acepting RAW files, I had no problem. Only my JPEGs were uploaded. Now however, I am seeing hundreds of duplicate photo images in my library, ie both the master RAW and my JPEG of the exact same image. While I love the fact that Revel can accept RAW images I am now frustrated over the fact that I have to scroll through so many duplicate images when viewing my photos on my iPad. Is there any way to hide images in Revel? Any suggestions as to how I can fix this (prevent Revel from uploading both the RAW and JPEG images in a version set) or having an option to hide either the RAW or JPEG image after Revel uploads them?
    Mark

PS Elements creates and uploads the JPEG versions for RAW files. As a workaround for this problem, you can create an album under library  in PS Elements and add all the RAW files to this album. This way all the JPEG versions of RAW files would be present in an album and this change would be propagated to iPad as well. So it would help in filtering out duplicate JPEG versions in your library.

  • Photoshop Elements 13 (Mac) Organizer - Can't save file with version sets.

I have spent many hours now trying to get Elements Organizer to save Version Sets when I've edited a photo. I've tried more or less every little thing you can find online without any luck. But just moments ago I found that if I move the file to my desktop everything works just fine. I then tried to edit files in a few other folders (also imported to my Organizer) and found that when ever the folder was named to something with a nordic letter in it (å, ä, ö) then I couldn't save my file with version sets (option greyed out) but if I moved that same file to another folder, well then everything worked as it's suposed to.
I'm using the trial version of PSE 13 for Mac (Yosemite) and the full version is ordered and on it's way. But if this problem can't be fixed, I need to return that order and buy some other photo editing program.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Is there perhaps a solution to this?
Please, any help is much appreciated!

I'm using the English version (as more or less always - Swedish is rarely an option). The thing is that I have never encountered this problem before in any other software I've been using, and certainly not in Aperture that I've been using up until now.
I name my photo folders with a date and a few words, for ex. "2014-12-31 New Years in Stockholm" (but I normally write in Swedish). I use this method so that my folder that contains the original photos will be easy to find in even without any other software than Finder (or Windows Explorer if I connect my external drive to a Windows machine). I could change the name of all of my folders, or at least all of the folders with a name containing one or more of the letters Å, Ä or Ö to "force" PSE to work as it should, but why? This really shouldn't be a problem.
I was hoping that their was a simple option or something like that that could fix this issue, but I guess not.
If this problem lies in the software itself I will have to return it and look elsewhere (but where? Lightroom is certainly not an option if Adobe can't handle "normal" letters and Aperture is discontinued in a few months).
    Thank you for your reply!

  • Version sets in Elements 12

I have just upgraded from 8. I can load my Raw file ok (.NEF) into the raw converter and make adjustments as necessary. However, when I open the image and then save as, although the version sets option is ticked, it does not appear back in the organiser. The file is on the hard disk ok, but does not seem to be accessable from the orhganiser. I've seen some other people are having similar issues with version sets in elements 12 but I can't see what the soluton is.

Thanks for this advice. I killed ElementsAutoanalyzer.exe as described and this has partially solved the problem. Now when I open the image from the raw converter, and then immediately Save As, I get the options for save to organiser and include in version set ticked, the file is saved but doesn't appear in the organiser. If I then Save a second time (the option Save As is disabled), I get only the option to include it in the organiser (the include in version set option is disabled). This time, after checking ok to overwrite the existing file, it is included in the organiser next to the original file. Further editing of this file does save to a version set, so you end up with the original file and then a version set of all the edits. This is ok, although not ideal as it wastes space in the organiser.

  • Problems using version set in Elements 9

    Hi!
I have problems using the version set. When saving files in the Element 9 editor I can not mark the "version set" option, its not highlighted and not possible to mark or use. Is there a basic setting that I´m missing or??? I have the MAC version of Elements.
Also I have noticed that when I have edited a file in the Elements 9 editor and I come back to the Organizer the editor have changed the time of the photo? This means that its rather difficult to find the photo in the Organiser. It often change the time 1 or 2 hours.
As I cant use the version set I can not keep my tags on the edited pictures. Is there a setting for keeping the tags and catalogue belongings to a edited file?
As of today this software makes no sense to me and I can basically not keep working with it as it does not support basic functionality that I´m dependent on.
    Best Re
    A

I’m not seeing this in my own version sets in PSE9; when I expand the set every image has the same date and time under each thumbnail.
I’m wondering if you have used the “save for web” command at some point, which
wipes all EXIF metadata, including the date & time of the original - in order to optimize the image for display on the internet. So if you have imported such an image Elements has to make an estimate. Apart from this known scenario I can’t really explain what’s going on.

  • Edited photos not appearing in the organizer as version sets.

Ever since I upgraded to Photoshop Elements 12 I have experienced one problem after another.  Now I have a new problem.  While editing RAW files in PSE 12, the edits are basically disappearing and are not being tracked in the Organizer in version sets.  However, when I reopen the RAW file it appears that the changes made in the RAW editor are still selected.  I also am still having problems with some of the files disconnecting in the Organizer.  It starts out with a few files disconnecting and eventually they all start disconnecting and then I have to close down the app and then relaunch it.  Sometimes I actually reboot the PC.
I have repaired the catalog and run the optimizer.  I tried optimizing first but got an error so I ran the repair first, no errors but selected repair anyway and then was able to get the catalog optimized.  It worked for about 15 minutes and then the edits started disappearing again.
    VERY FRUSTRATED!!!!

  • PSE 13 version set

I'm unable to view, manage or otherwise use version set options in PSE 13 (Windows 8.1) even though the set is created and the set exists and can be viewed in File Explorer.
It makes no difference if the set is created in the Organizer or manually saved as a copy in a version set in the Editor.
All version set menu options are greyed out.
I converted a catalog from PSE 10...repaired and optimized that...created a new catalog in PSE 13...no difference.
    Any clues....?

View>Details and you should be able to work with version sets. The new adaptive grid view doesn't do versions.

  • Versions Set not saving in Organizer 9

Using Organizer and PSE 9 on a Mac, about 13,000 photos in single catalog.
Had been using Versions Sets with no problem, but now the edited image is not being added to the version set.  It works okay if I do the edit in Organizer - the edited version saves in version set.  But if I go out to PSE for edits and save edited version, a version set is not created.  Using Save command in PSE and the "Save as Version Set with Original" box is checked.  Have  closed Organizer and reopened, also ran the repair catalog in Organizer, but no change.
    Thanks,

Same issue here. Some files it works, some not. I cannot find any elements that would be causing this. I thought the file name could be too long, or contain special characters, but I have been able to make it work in some cases.
I'm not sure forums are monitored so I guess we're just out waiting for an update that would miraculously correct this...
In the mean time, when you do edit within an album, the edited files gets added to the catalog but not to the album, which is left with just the original. Very unuseful...
In the hope that someone will find a solution to this.

  • PSE 12.1 not saving in version set

I have been successfully using PSE 12.1 on Windows 7 since last August.  However I've started having problems in the last 2 or 3 days.  I start the Organizer and select a photo to edit.  When I "save as" I get one of two results.  In the first case it saves the photo in the proper folder but it does not create a version set with the original.  In the second case, the editor locks up and eventually I get a message saying the editor is not responding and windows is looking for a solution.  Usually it saves one photo as in case one above, and then fails to respond on the second photo and I shut it down.  Over the past 2 days I have uninstalled PSE 12 and reinstalled 3 times, upgrading to 12.1 each time., but I get the same result.  Any ideas what is causing this?
Update:  I've given up.  Uninstalled for the last time; purchased PSE 13; everything working with new version.

Today's state of the problem seems to be that this happens not only with saving in version sets in PSE12, but also on simple saves with 'include in the organizer' checked.
It happens on previously converted catalogs, not on new ones.
It happens when the process 'elementsautoanalyzer.exe' is running (you can 'kill' it from the Windows task bar, but you must do it every time you start the organizer. Deleting or renaming this file seems to work.)
This seems also to be a problem for people using the 'watched folders'.
So, to prevent the problem : kill the elementsautoanalyzer.exe every time you start the organizer.
To recover the edited files not included in the catalog, do a manual 'get photos and videos' from the already gotten files.
It's important to do so, otherwise the edited files won't be catalogued and be missing if you do a backup.
If necessary, use the automatic stacking feature by visual similarity to stack your originals with your edited versions, since you can't create version sets.
If you can share your experience on the above feedback link, please do it and add your vote.
