I'm using a hidden WLAN, i.e. WLAN which doesn't advertise its name to the air. On laptops, I manually set this WLAN as default (I type its name when connecting for the first time), and that works just fine.
How can I setup WLAN manually on E71 to connect to a hidden WLAN?

  • Hidden WLAN Missing in N95

Web Browser (or any other App) is unable to find the Hidden WLAN whose Access Point has been alaready saved in the settings of N95.
When I turn OFF the broadcasting of the SSID, the WLAN wizard shows Hidden WLAN from which I created an AP and the phone prompted that AP is valid.
Internet Phone didn't list that in WLAN section but gave an option to use Hidden Lan, if I used the option and got connected to my SIP provider, WLAN connected icon came on main screen along with internet phone. And then when I started browsing it showed me an AP of hidden wlan.
But when I disconnected the Internet Phone, browser didnt list that AP.
This seems to be a bug, I am using Nokia N95(01.01) at v12.
Please help me out as I am bound to use office's hidden WLAN which I cannot change to broadcasting.

When you have your WLAN hidden and configured as an AP.
Are you able to see it in the list of available APs presented by Web Browser or any other Application ?
I can only see it as HIDDEN WLAN in WLAN Wizard, none my Apps pick it up even if its properly saved as AP.

  • E65 - Hidden WLAN

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone has the same problem, and preferrably a solution to the hidden WLAN problem I'am currently having.
I have at home a WLAN that does not send out its SSID.
The E65 can perfectly be configuered to this with the setting "hidden" WLAN and giving the exact name in the settings.
I manually setup everything, but even when using the WLAN wizzard, I cannot get connected to my network, unless I turn again SSID BROADCASTING on, on the WLAN router.
This of course makes my WLAN visible to every neighbour.
I haven't found any wrong settings so far, I am using it now with the SSID broadcast on, but I would prefer to turn it off again.
    Regards,

    hello be,
I'm no WLAN expert, but managed to get my WLAN and E65 working without SSID broadcasting.
The thing I did was, set SSID to broadcasting, configured E65, browsed the web in E65 over WLAN connection (as it detects the access point it asked me to "store it", I accepted), then, and only after get it working, I set the SSID broadcast off (and of course I turn WLAN scan off when I'm not using it).
So far I can always access WLAN, never had a problem.
    Give it a try.
    Hope this helps

  • Airport looses SSID and Password from hidden WLAN

    Hello Folks,
hopefully someone can help me to figure out what happens with my setup. I have the following situation.
I bought a brand new Apple Airport Extreme Station and configured it with a hidden SSID and a WEP2 Personal Password. Then I connected my MacBook Pro to the Airport Station by clicking the Airport Symbol in the Menu Bar, then connect to network. I entered my hidden SSID and the appropriate WEP2 Password. Everything works fine. But if I reboot the Machine all settings are forgotten by the MBP Airport. I checked the Keyring and there are still all settings there(Pass and SSID). So I tried to delete the Keyring, the Airport Network and create it new but it doesn't work. I have no idea what i could do else.
    Please could anyone help me?
    Thanks!!!
Merry christmas form germany to all Apple geeks

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in the second message of this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10695921
They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.
By the way, a hidden SSID doesn't give you much security. Unless there's a reason you can't use WPA security, you'd be much better off with WPA/WPA2 than with WEP and a hidden SSID.

  • N95 Wifi, home network and hidden access points

    Hello-
Just picked up a N95 and having some problems. First, my home network doesn't broadcast a SSID. I stumbled across the home network option and was able to configure it. However, it's never an option when I need an internet connection; e.g., it never shows up in the wlan list.
So, how do I congigure a hidden access point so I can use it? The user guide says you should be able to do it manually, but doesn't go into any details.
Secondly, exactly what is the home network setting for and why is it separate from the other wlan settings?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Jay,
I too have a hidden network (SSID not broadcast), the N95 seems to have a problem with this. It may or may not show up on the active standby screen (on my Voda N95, it shows up when I take my sim out!).
To configure your accesss point :-
Tools / Settings / Connection / Access Points
then Options / New access point
    Connection name
(enter a name, whatever you want to call it)
    Data bearer
    =wireless LAN
    WLAN network name
    (enter your SSID here)
    Network Status
    (public or hidden)
    WLAN network mode
(Infrastructure or ad-hoc. If you're using a router, infracstructure should be the one you want)
    WLAN security mode
(Open, WEP, 802.1x or WPA2. Check your router)
    WLAN security settings
    WPA/WPA2
EAP or Pre-shared key (consult your router)
EAP plug-in settings or Pre-shared key
(which one you get depends on what you set above)
    WPA2 only mode
    (leave alone)
Having done all this it still won't show on the active-standy screen (at least it doesn't on mine) in the WLAN section BUT if you know try and surf the web it should ask which access point you want to use - assuming you've got it set to 'always ask'. What this seems to do is only list the connections that it can find (i.e if you've got a 'Starbucks' and a 'home' connection defined, it'll only show 'home' at home and 'Starbucks' when you're getting your latte. The standby screen may show, how to decribe it, a four leaf clover near to the battery level indicator, this is the indication that it's either found or connected to your wireless lan.
I think the 'Home netw.' option is for use with the Home Media Server application supplied on the CD. I haven't tried it so can't confirm for sure.
    Hope this helps,
    Simon

Update to my Network Connectivity Dilemma.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
It seems I can use 802.1x WI-FI Security mode authentication to connect to WLANs that are configured for WPA2 Enterprise  since both authentication methods use the same security settings in a WLan Infrastructure.
They both have EAP with similar EAP Plug-in settings.
If this theory is correct, then I can use my Nokia 5800 to access a WPA2 Enterprise authentication Wlan with the 802.1x WI-FI Security mode.

  • Can't delete WLAN, missing anchor config...

    Using WLC v7.6.100.0
(Cisco Controller) >config wlan delete <n>
This WLAN is used in AP groups.
Are you sure you want to continue? (y/n) y
Anchors configured on WLAN - unable to delete WLAN entry.
There are no anchors configured on the WLAN... I think this is seen when an IP address changes in the mobility group, but the anchor for a WLAN isn't removed prior to the change.  This is an old bug from 4.2
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCsy94911
Anyone got a workaround other than resetting the WLC?  That would be very annoying...

    Hi Rasika,
    Yes I tried that .
One thing to note is that when you add the problem anchor it no longer appears on the list of selectable anchors but it doesn't appear above in the configured anchors...
I then tried removing all WLAN anchor configs, then changing the mobility group entry for the anchor WLC to the previous (original) IP entry, then adding and removing that.
So I assume that there is hidden WLAN config mapping anchor wlc by MAC to IP...  If there is a mobility group change this config goes into limbo.... It's still there but is removed from GUI and console running config somehow

  • N91 connection to WLAN

I have just purchased a N91. I cant connect it to the internet via my home Wireless Linksys Router. I have turned all security off and have broadcast the SSID, but every time I try to connect via the access point the connection task bar just hangs and nothing connects. My laptop connects fine. Please help

If your company WLAN is also part of a VPN network then you may need to install a VPN client (you can find it in the Software for N80 it works with N91).
Also, I recommend you get an IT person to help with the settings for the WLAN.
Set up an Access Point in. Tools-> Settings-> Connection -> Access Point
    Then use Options->New Access Point
It's important to set the correct settings here for security:
    Network Status: Public or Hidden
    WLAN NEtw. Mode: Infrastructure
WLAN Security Mode: WEP, WPA, Open, 802.1x
WLAN security settings (you must expand this selection, settings will change depending if it's WEP, WPA or other)
For WEP security it's important to set the "key in use" to match your WLAN router.
Also the "Authentication type" has to match the settings of your WLAN router.
And of course the keys have to match also.
Once you set-up the access point you can use it to connect to the web or email or other things.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When the phone says "Hidden WLAN", that generally means it didn't find any WLAN networks.  When was the last time you used WiFi successfully on your E75?  If you are sure one or more WiFi networks are available but the phone isn't finding them, I am concerned the WiFi antenna or electronics could be faulty.
Suggestion: can you visit a friend, Internet Cafe, or elsewhere where a knowledgeable person can give you all the settings to configure a WiFi connection manually and also possibly some technical support?  Try a manual setup once, and if that still fails, consider either hard resetting your phone (*#7370# , default password 12345 ...but back up all important data first!) or having the phone serviced.  I hope that helps!

  • E90 cannot find WLAN

We have a WLAN with hidden SSID. Nokia 90E cannot find the ALAN and therefore cannot connect. How can I connect to hidden WLAN with Nokia E90? I cannot ask network manager to reveal WLAN to anybody every time I go to office...Or can I?

you are in the same boat as me. I think you need these information to set up the Hidden WLAN
SSID(network name) - name given by your network team, this you can ask.
Wireless standard - WPA2 (there are 4 different types available with E90 check out which one)
Encryption - AES ( this is not needed but you should have the certificate or nokia should support the encryption model used in your wifi security settings)
Authentication - EAP-TTLS ( you have around 6 different types supported by Nokia)
If you have these details then you need to figure how it authorises you either with userid or certificate.
So let me know if this helps

  • E52: WLAN network found

It would only show Hidden WLAN in the scanned networks. I am certain that there are no WLAN networks around when I experimented on it. Anyone having this same glitch?

  • WRVS4400N Problem Wlan

    Hi Community
I am new to the forum but really desparate.
My first Cisco product and trouble trouble trouble.
    I bought a WRVS4400N with the actual Firmware V2.008.ETSI
I am connected to the Internet by cable, cablemodem is plugged into my new Cisco router then goes to a Gigabit Switch (3Com), House ist equipped with cat. 7 Gigabit cable.
    My Problem:
Modem and router up an running on a 7/24 hour basis.
    Problem 1:
I am using Wlan functionality but every other day, the Wlan loses internet connectivity meaning I have contact to LAN bot WAN (internet) is dead, all W7 clients show me the "!" in the internet connection. If I switch to cable (gigabit) connection, everything works fine. Log into the router (via LaN), do a reset of the router and everything (cable and Wlan) is up an running again.
    Problem 2:
Sometimes (not often) also cable shows the "!", no log in to the router is possible, have to reset the router and up an running again.
I am very confused, I switched the cable modem (from a 100mb to a gigabit lan) but the problem persists.
As Wlan and Lan can be affected, I think there must be a problem with the router, I am using the standard setup with a hidden wlan name, changed the wlan connection types from all to G only no luck.
It seems that the router "loses" connectivity to internet on purpose.
Can someone give me a tip?
If you need more specification feel free to ask.
Thank you very much for your time.
    Best
    Andreas

I have had similar problems - more relating to the Access Policy rather than the IP rules. Try rebooting. That has fixed it for me. I suspect that some form of CRON or timer stops after a while. This, BTW is a security issue as the router will not stop Internet Access at the correct time once this happens.
If that does not work try turning all the Access Policies off, save setting then turn just one on.
Don't forget that the Access Policies will only work for the first machine macth. ie. If a system matches in the List of PCs no other Access Policies will be matched.
Let us know how this goes...,

plz my humble request to answer my querry and help me in this matter asap i would be very grateful...
alsoo.. can i claim warranty for this? ( i have around 11 months left)

    Hi there!
To fix the problem, you can try the following:
Check that your device has SIM card properly inserted and that the device is not in the offline mode. When in offline mode, the device has limited WLAN functionality and may not find e.g. the hidden WLAN networks.
Check that you are under the coverage of the WLAN network. Enable 'Show WLAN availability' in the Wireless LAN settings of the device. When this setting is enabled, you should be able to see an indication when a WLAN network is available. You can also use the Connection mgr. or WLAN tool in your device to check which WLAN networks your device is currently seeing.
Check that the WLAN access point is properly configured in the connectivity settings of your device and that the WLAN security settings match with the settings of your WLAN network. The WLAN networks are typically configured with some sort of security enabled (WEP, 802.1x, WPA/WPA2) and it is important that the corresponding security settings are defined in your mobile device.
If you have other devices already successfully connecting through WLAN, check and compare that the same WLAN security settings are used in your mobile device.
Check that the correct access point is used when trying to connect to WLAN. Go to the web browser settings and select the WLAN access point or destination which has been defined in your device. Try to connect to a web site and check with the Connection mgr. tool if the WLAN connection becomes active.
If your device is using destinations (groups of access points) instead of single access points in the connectivity settings, check that the WLAN access point is at the top of the list in the destination settings (otherwise the device will try to connect through an access point which is higher up in the priority list).
If you are not able to connect to WLAN even though the WLAN settings are properly configured, reset the WLAN access point (WLAN router) to default (factory) settings and begin defining the wireless network again so that there are no security features, no hidden ssid, no mac filtering, etc. This way you can troubleshoot at which point the gateway error appears.
Disable Bluetooth connectivity in your device while being connected to WLAN. Bluetooth and WLAN operate on the same frequency range and may interfere with each other.
Restore(reset) your mobile device back to original (factory) settings. You can do this from general settings of your device. Please see more detailed instructions from your device user guide. Note: It is recommended to backup the device before resetting it.
Check that your WLAN network is configured to deliver IP address automatically via DHCP to the connected devices. The mobile devices are by default configured for automatic IP and DNS address retrieval from DHCP server. This is the default mode in most WLAN environments but if using fixed IP addresses, you need to configure the addresses manually in the advanced level settings of your phone (phone IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS addresses).
Check that there are free IP addresses in the address pool of your WLAN DHCP server. If there are other devices already connected to your WLAN (e.g. PCs), all the available IP addresses may already be reserved and the phone doesn't get an IP address allocated to it. Add more IP addresses in your DHCP server settings or release an IP address from another WLAN connected device. Note that switching off the device doesn't yet release the IP address, you should release the address manually (e.g with "ipconfig /release" command in Windows PC) or wait for the IP address lease to expire (which can typically take a few hours).
Check that your WLAN environment is not configured to filter the access based on the device MAC address. If using MAC based filtering, the MAC address of your mobile device must be added in the filter list. The WLAN MAC address of your phone can be checked by typing command *#62209526#.
    Hope tis' help!
