Hide articles from the TOC menu

Hi!
I'm making an iPad magazine and have a question about the TOC menu.
One of the TOC pictures, is gonna go to an index page for one of the sections in the magazine.
Therefore I would NOT like the other articles in that sections to show in the TOC menu.
How can I do that? The only way I know to leave articles out of the TOC menu is to mark them as ads.
Is that the way to do it or is there any other way to fix my problem?
Another question about the metadata you have to enter. What does "Tags" mean? What to I write there?

"tags" are just keywords to describe the content. Its much like tagging is in the sense of Photos, where for example an image of a woman in a wedding dress could have a variety of "tags" including "wedding" "woman" "flowers" "bouquet" "model" etc. In the context of articles an example could be an article on a San Fransico resturant experience could have a variety of tags like "food" "travel" "city" etc.
The metadata Tags you add will be visable when the app is in "browse mode".

Is there a way to hide compilations from the artist menu when appearing on an iPod?

I remember a few years ago, I couldn't find some artists on my iPod because they were hidden when part of a compilation. iTunes has updated numerous times and now that I'm trying to make my artist list easier to search through on my iPod, every artist synced (whether on a compilation or not) is in there. It makes it really hard to search through quickly. Haven't found any help for this in the current iTunes version.

Turn off:
Settings > Main Menu > Compilations
Settings > Music Menu > Compilations

Before Mavericks, I was able to go from the Finder to the top menu "Go" -> "Utilities", or Applications or Home… and a new window would open.
Now I have to manually open a new window to avoid loosing my existing window.

First, as others have already stated.....make sure the checkbox is deselected for "open folders in tabs instead of windows" in Finder Preferences.
If you're like me and don't like tabs very much, there is a way to make folders always open in windows with a simple click (I'm using Mavericks 10.9.5). Go to a root folder (for example, the Documents Folder), open it, and select View > Hide Toolbar, then all folders within that root folder will open in a new window.
As an alternative method, any folder can be opened in a new window by holding down either Command Key while clicking the folder. But sooner or later you will forget to hold down that key, and then clicking on a folder will open in a tab (which will automatically resize the window and cause much aggravation).
The Hide Toolbar trick will also work with any folder present on the Desktop. It will make all folders inside that folder open in new windows.
To make the Applications Folder open in a new window when opening it from the menu bar at the top of the screen, you will have to open the main hard drive folder and use the Hide Toolbar trick. This will cause all folders inside it to open in new windows.

HT1725 When I click on a Movie I get the following "You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu." Then get err = 11111

iTunes quit unexpectedly during the download of a movie. When I click on that movie now I get the following message: "You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu."
I follow the instructions, but the download still doesn't resume - err = 11111
Any advice?

Yeah, I am going to blast my iPhone for the 4th time today and pray this goes away. I had 6 apps showing updates, the 6 badge icon shows on the App Store on my iPhone and, having run them all, the 6 apps have two copies each on my iPhone: one that is the old version of the app and will not run and the other is a faded version of the app with an empty progress bar on the icon. Click those and you get an error message about connecting to iTunes, etc. as described in the article I linked to above.
It gets stranger than this. If I install a completely NEW app, the 6 that are stuck mid-update heal themselves and appear with the new version only, however now completely different apps (Hold Em for instance - which I did not update and didn't need an update) will not launch "app name Cannot Launch" message comes up.

I have a Power MAC G5 dual 2ghz that has a peculiar problem. The monitor will not report until the machine is stopped and started 5 or 6 times. Once booted it will restart without problem if done so from the apple menu. Swapped out all hardware

Once it has booted it can be restarted without incident from the Apple menu. I have swapped out all of the hardware. Monitor, Memmory,Video Card and reset the PRAM. After resetting the PRAM it booted on the first attempt and I thought it was solved. But the next day it was back to starting and stopping until the Monitor came on. Does anyone have a suggestion? It could be a bad PRAM battery corrupting your PRAM. Typically when I have monitor issues on startup it is a bad PRAM battery.

If you have a digital multimeter you can check the condition of your present battery. It should read at least 3.2V if it is the 3.6V half-AA battery type. A new battery provides 3.67 Volts DC. A bad battery provides under 3.2 Volts DC. Ideally this should be measured while the battery is under load; added recommendation from Hans777:

Alternatively, test the battery while it is still in the computer.

Hide refresh from UWL tray menu

How can I hide the "Refresh" link from the UWL inbox tray menu? The refresh link that I'm referring to is along with other links like "manage substitution rules, personalize view, Display connection status".

I found solution, I had to put "refresh" in the UWL iView property "List of UWL Actions to exclude". This would remove refresh item from the tray menu.

When I open Add-ons, from the Tools menu, I get an unresponsive script error: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623.

When I try to click on Add-ons, from the Tools menu, I get this error message of an unresponsive script: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js:623. This is to say the least about the unresponsive script errors at other times. However, at all times, it won't go away - even by clicking on the 'stop script' option; even with checking the 'don't ask again' option. This is typically caused by a problem with the Personas Plus 1.6 add-on and it conflicting with the Google toolbar.
Try disabling the Personas Plus add-on. To do this open the add-ons manager by selecting the Tools menu, then Add-ons. In the list of installed extensions click on Personas Plus, then click on either disable or uninstall.
If you can not access the add-ons manager, follow the instructions in the [[safe mode]] article to start Firefox in safe mode. You should then be able to disable or uninstall Personas Plus. You can find more information on this procedure in the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article.

Blur Gallery tools from the Filters menu in PsCC

When I try to use the Blur Gallery tools from the Filters menu in PsCC the control overlays which should display on the image do not appear. How do I get them?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden, so you need to hide the Menu bar via View > Toolbars, also accessible via Firefox > Options.<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You can place the Tab Bar on top.

To import bookmarks from Safari, Help says to select Import from the File menu, but there is no Import option there. What then is the first step to import Safari bookmarks?.

I was reading from the Help menu which does provide the warning that the material may be outdated since it is not supported.

The Import option has been moved from the File menu to the Library window; that article needs to be revised.

Remove the time duration from the TOC

Hi,
I am using Captivate 4.
We are adding TOC to our movies and would like to remove the duration from the TOC as shown below:
I tried to unselect the "Show Duration" checkbox located in the "Skin TOC settings" dialog but it didn't work.
Can anyone help?

I need to be able to extract all values from the dropdown menu; I know how to get all those values as a string, but I need to be able to access each item; (the value in a dropdown menu will change dynamically)
How do I get number of item is selection dropdown?

The findElement method allows various attributes to be used to search. Take the following two examples for the element below:

I can find the element based on its name or any other attribute, I just need to specify what I am looking for. To find it by name I would do the following:
Set x = RSWApp.om.FindElement("ProdType","SELECT","Name")
If I want to search by id I could do the following:
Set x = RSWApp.om.FindElement("testProd","SELECT","ID")
Usually you will use whatever is available. Since the select element has no name or ID on the Empirix home page, I used the onChange attribute. You can use any attribute as long as you specify which one you are using (last argument in these examples)
You can use the FindElement to grab links, text boxes, etc.
The next example grabs from a link on a page

You can download the trial version (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html) to convert the PDF back to WORD if you do not have the original. The conversion may not be perfect, but it is typically better than starting from scratch. You may be lucky and get a good result. You might check the settings (in the save screen) to try retain format versus retain text flow. The format version can be a pain to edit since it creates a bunch of text boxes. The flow version may require you to reformat in WORD, but you likely would want to do that anyway.

I keep getting the message, "Windows cannot find 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." I get it when I either try to open it from the Start menu or from the desktop icon.

If you use Windows Explorer (My Computer) to check that path, is the Mozilla Firefox folder there? That is the normal installation location, but I think it's worth checking.
If the folder isn't there or firefox.exe is not in it, I wonder whether some other software might be interfering. You might want to run some supplemental security scans. These two tools are highly regarded:

In Firefox v4.0.1, custom toolbars disappear from the toolbar menu when I open a "New Window".

I created a new toolbar in Customize... / Add New Toolbar. It's on the list of toolbars and opens up '''most times''' I start Firefox, but not ''always''. I have tested it and it is completely random.

Same type of problem as 1., but '''''everytime''''' I use the 'New Window' feature the custom toolbar disappears from the toolbar menu and if I need to use it, I have to '''save all tabs as bookmark''' then close and reopen FireFox so I get my original window [where the toolbar shows up]. AARRRGHH.
I've been using FF for 7 years now, so I know enough to rule out corrupted localstore.rdf, new or updated add-ons (I could be wrong though, as I often am...).
Has this come up with other users? Am I being cursed? [lol] any help would be appreciated.

Not other than parental oversight. On the computer you can implement Parental Controls on a separate user account that they would use. You can then block certain websites. But you cannot do that on the iPad.
You could change your iTunes account such that they cannot access it in order to buy or download apps.
