Hide characters when typing password?

I cant find any option in my Nokia Lumia where I would be able to turn off character showing during entering a password (for signing on to appstore or any other app). I cant believe that Nokia, has yet to implement this!? Especially when you are sharing screen/streaming and it is so elementary and important...
Anyone knows about some app that can disable it?
thanks for tips !

Hmmmmm,.... where are you seeing this?  Everywhere on my Lumia 930, the password is 'critick'ed' (by displaying bullets instead of characters, although you can see the actual typed in character for a second or two while you are actually typing it in).
If on a website, I believe this is the responsibility of the website code, not the browser.  Apps should NEVER display complete passwords while they are being input.

  • Revolve 810 G1 Keyboard skips characters when typing

Hi all, Just got a brand new HP Revolve 810 G1 tablet/laptop (12GB memory 256GB SDD). Things are otherwise smooth, but there is extremely annoying problem of keyboard dropping / skipping / losing some of the characters when typing. It appears randomly, not any specific keys or combos. Up till now in this post it has skipped about 10 characters. It doesn't require fast typing, even in the Win 8 start-menu, when searching for an app and then hitting enter to start the app, it might not react on the enter press. This is just an example, letters are missing from anywhere where I type. I type quite fast and know that I am hitting the correct keys. Disabling the touchpad does not help, so it is not that I would accidentally touching it during typing. I have updated BIOS, restored OS to factory state (HP Full Recovery), switching to English OS localization, installed all Windows Updates - no help. This makes working a pain, it's not feasible to chat or type document when you have to backspace all the time to fix the mistakes that you did not make. HP Support Assistant is not finding any more updates, product number is H5F12EA#AK8,WIn 8 Pro 64-bit. I have installed a 8GB SODIMM under the back cover, replacing the included 4GB chip. Will run a memtest overnight. Anybody seeing the same?? tonttuz

Welcome to the HP forum, Tonttuz. If you have adjusted the keyboard speed properties, updated the drivers, and done all the usual, thenIt could be keylogger malware - run a deep scan and make sure you are the only watching what you typeIt could be another program slowing down the system and interfering with your input - check the Task Manager and look for "hogs" -- programs that are running with a high cpu / network / disk consumption and stealing resources. It could be hardware - the system is new, but its construction may not be flawless -- Call HP=====================================================================================It could be that the drivers, though updated, are not being read from disk - instead they may be tangled in the memory and not being read properly. You might consider, without any grand hopes of success, applying a Forced Reset: Forced Reset flushes out the persistant boot-to-boot software and driver instructions from memory and forces the system to go back to the disk to read the software and drivers from the disk Operating System. Forced Power Reset Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset The Power Reset cannot tell the difference between drivers - it does not analyze a driver or software program before applying it.  It assumes all the drivers and software on your computer belong there. This is a Driver Reset; this is NOT the Windows 8 Reset that installs the Operating System.  This procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows setup in any way. EXAMPLE:If the driver software on disk is incorrect or if the driver software is corrupt, it will still be incorrect or corrupted after the Reset. If the driver INSTRUCTIONS are tangled, messed up, or there are bits missing from those instructions, then the Reset may fix the problem. Why a Power Reset works to fix some issues: The Power Reset does not install anything on your computer, the Power / Hard Reset does not remove programs or personal data from your computer, and the Power Reset does not change the settings on your computer.  Your data and programs remain as they were before the reset was applied.  The Reset drains out the old program instructions from the memory and forces the computer go to the on disk Operating System to get new instructions. Why a Power Reset might Not Work:If the issue is more than just entanglement, if the "good instructions" on the computer are not good enough -- that is, you need an update, a new driver, or there is a problem that cannot be "untangled", then the Reset will not work. If there is a hardware problem the Power Reset will not work.==================================================================================== If you want to contact HP directly, you may use the following: Contact HP - Worldwide Contact HP – USA - Phone Assistance  Warranty Required – USA and CanadaUSA – Contact HP // Self-Help – Email - Chat  Good Luck!

    it states clearly in the forum rules;
No posts shall include instructions or directions intended to subvert security measures, including passwords, locking mechanisms, fingerprint scans, etc, nor shall any posts provide descriptions to the location of, nor direct links to content related to these topics.
BIOS passwords are set for security reasons; they can in some cases render a notebook useless should it be lost or stolen preventing others from accessing what may be important sensitive or private information which they shouldn't have.
All that can be offered here is a link to the Hardware Maintainance Manual, which explains about passwords, and suggest that you speak to service in your country.
You can continue to use a system when you are locked out of BIOS, but you may run across some restrictions at some point in the future.
The subject is therefore not permitted to be discussed here.
Thanks for understanding - thread locked.

  • Doubling of characters when typing

    Hey all!
I'm new to Mac's and I have really appreciated all of the tips and advice I have gotten here in the discussion forums.
Here's my delima. I have had my 12" iBook for a couple of months now and I can't figure out any reason for this problem. Alot of times when I am typing I get some of the characters twice. I have gone to keyboard preferences and the repeat rates are fine, this doesn't seem to have anything to do with that...it's just a random doubling of characters sometimes.
    Anyone else had this problem??

    Hi REM Hou,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
What version of OS X are you using? What did you last download/install before you noticed this problem? Heres what I have heard:
Some people in the past have said that it is caused by a corrupt system folder. To fix that you will need to create a new folder. First go to System Preferences - Accounts - Click the plus sign - Add info w/password - Log out and log into with new system folder. Hopefully that should do the trick.
Try that and we can go from there,
    Jon

  • Reminders showing weird characters when typing

When I type in a new reminder on icloud.com (I am using WIndows 7) all of the sudden I am seeing gibberish characters.  They become fine when I hit enter or details or when reading something typed.. But as I am typing, they are just weird chaarcters.,. Anyone else have this issue? How can I fix?

I'll tell you whatever you want to hear but wouldn't you prefer hearing the truth?
Personally, I'd be more concerned about someone seeing what keys my finger depressed while entering the PW. The text on the keys is much larger and much easier to see than the text on the entry area. Bottom line is that I'd never enter any PW under any circumstances while someone else is watching.

  • Show '*' when typing password

Probably been asked many time before but how do I make it that when I'm typing a passwrod at the console it shows and asterisk for each letter I type.
I'm having a few problems with my wireless keyboard and I have no idea how many key presses the PC has picked up.

    Take a look at /etc/login.defs
I don't know if it afects terminals under X too, but i suspect that it does.

  • Spurious characters when typing [PROBLEM]

Hello, as i reported in the title i'm having a really big problem with my 2010 Macbook Pro 13".
Almost every time i type something on skype, on forums, or even in a text document, on the beginning of the first line a strange character is added.
The way it looks depends on the platform from which the text is read: it may look like a little square, full, with a little dot inside, with four numbers inside... however, i just CAN'T see it from my mac: i notice this only when reviewing posts/files from my pc, or when somebody else looks at my files/posts.
This is getting more and more nasty with time, and is really embarassing when it happens in an important document.
All keyboard and language settings look ok, so i hope somebody can enlighten me.
    Greetings

It could be the problem is at the other end. But in any case, I doubt anyone can help you without being able to see what you are talking about. Could you send a screen shot with details on the app/platform being used (tom at bluesky dot org).
Well, i don't think it's a problem at the other end because i see this problem from every other terminal (i.e. when looking my posts on facebook from a cellphone, when looking my posts on forums from my linux system, and my contacts on skype keep complaining about this).
    http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4874/charl.png
This is a screen of how a post of mine on a forum, made from my mac, looks like on the ubuntu system on the other side of this desk
As far as i've noticed, it's replaced by a black square with a white dot inside when read on windows.
I've finished right now a scan with Kaspersky and it didn't find anything suspicious.
It's also worth noting that i don't remember failing logins due to this, so the "extra" character don't mess with passwords or user-ids when sent over the web, or at least it looks like so.

  • Double characters when typing in Safari Browse

I'm using the Safari browser, but when i type f.ex an A it responds with AA.
I only have this problem in the Safari Browser. Is there a fix for this ?
    The Safari Version is 5.1.1
Hope there is a fix for this problem.

    Hi,
The problem you described sounds reminiscent of a problem many MacBook, MacBook Pro and even PowerBook G4 users have been experiencing. If you do a Discussions-wide search for the phrase "first key" in quotation marks, you'll get an idea of how wide-spread the problem is. Apple recently released a firmware update for the MacBook and MacBook Pros, but reports of first-key-unrecognition persists.
While I hope your problem isn't of this variety, the point I'm trying to illustrate is that if it is, Apple has yet to pin down a proper fix for it. Until they do though, perhaps some workarounds you can try are banging on a modifier key before typing anything, or clicking twice to ensure focus has been given to a window element and not just the window.

  • Missing key preview when typing characters in IPad After iOS7 upgrade

How can I enable the key preview when typing characters in Ipad?
After I upgraded my Ipad mini to IOS 7, the preview when hitting keys are not showing anymore.
Its so difficult especially when typing passwords wherein you wouldnt be able to know if you are hitting the right character.

Two things that might help. Reset all your settings and reset the phone.  Use the Settings app to reset all settings. Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings  Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that helps.
The update to iOS 7 added several new features and turned them all on. There are numerous suggestions for reducing battery life by turning off unneeded features. Go through Settings and turn off things you do not need or use. Especially look at Notifications, Push notices, Background App Refresh.

  • Anyone with a MBP that doesn't skip first character when typing?.....

Following up on a discussion on another thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5930108&#5930108 about disfunctional keyboards on some MBP, just want to see how many MBP owners have no problems with either missing 1st characters when typing or any keyboard malfunctions. (These could be as simple as having to repeat a save /copy/etc.....command or having to press the spacebar again in some audio applications or any similar situation.)
    Thanks

In my case the backlit keyboard feature was already disabled in the preferences and the problem still existed. I noted that if you disable it through the F keys it also disables it in the prefs, even if the prefs are open. Given that, I can't imagine it'd make a difference whether you disable it via clicking the box or using the F keys, but I'll try it out.
Also, I can't view the thread that you posted due to not having permission. But it's nice to know that the issue is being examined and a fix may be available in the near future.
Although you are right about the pref settings and the F keys relationships the opposite is not true.....if you disable the backlighting thru the system prefs you cannot reinstate them thru the Fkeys while the reverse can be done...still its now been 4hrs since I did this and I have yet to note a missed 1st key...as I use pro audio apps for show playback, I had a few instances where I would miss a cue when using the spacebar, but today, all seems fine after disabling thru system prefs. As I said this may be far fetched and may be nothing more than just coincidence. Please report back after testing on your system....

You could just try changing your Input Sources under System Preferences>Language & Text:
But I kind of doubt that's going to work. It may be a hardware problem or a system problem. If you take it into Apple they might be able to determine which and might advise a reinstallation of System software. I would take it to an Apple Store or an AASP but, first, make sure that you have a backup just in case they suggest a clean install of the system.

  • Hide mouse cursor when typing is not working in IE11 Windows7

Hide mouse cursor when typing is not working in IE11 Windows7 - I saw a post that devs were looking at this in 2011? Slow progress huh?
This is really annoying when you have to move the cursor to see what you are typing...

    Hi,
Please first make sure that Mouse Properties\Pointer options\Hide pointer while typing is ticked.
If this option is already ticked, then try following steps to troubleshoot:
Update the driver for the mouse to get the best performance.
Choose a different cursor as Rob said for a test.
If this issue occurred recently, check if you have any newly installed programs or IE add-ons which cause this issue, you can test this in no add-ons mode, click start button, type "internet" in the search box, choose "internet explorer (No add-on)".
    * I test in My IE, I have Hide pointer while typing checked, and in some typing boxes in IE the cursor will hide automatically, while some are not, but I think it's not an annoying issue for me.*
