Hide Colored Labeled folders from 'All My Files' search criteria

Okay so I use my MBP (running Mac OS X 10.8.2) for both work and at home. I don't like my work files showing up in the "all my files" area (drives me crazy because i'm constantly using them at work so that's all it shows) and I am trying to figure out a way to hide them from the search criteria. I have labeled all my work files with a 'Green Label' and I was curious if there is a way to hide only the items marked with Green.
Any help would be nice.

'All My Files' doen't even show pdf and doc files that I know are on my machine.
Maybe should be called 'Barely Some of My Files.'
I went into 'Search Criteria' and put in only one criteria line, searching for "any" file of "any" type.
This seemed to work.

How can I modify the "All My files" search criteria?

Heres my issue: I LOVE the new "All My Files" feature in 10.7... however.. I would like to limit some of the search criteria (which I know goes against its purpose to some degree)... "All My Files" shows every file by kind on my computer, unfortunately it also shows erroneous files in the /Developer folder that I do not care about at all nor are they "mine".
So I have noticed that I can "edit" the "All My Files" property and that it simply seems to be a "saved search" that they put into the Finder side bar... but how do I then say dont include this folder?

My iPhone 4 will now sync with iTunes both in its USB-connected mini dock and over Wi-Fi. I am having the same issue....Same address for years - same as USPS - I tried 5 times (3 macs and 2 iPhones) and now i have 5 CHARGES for 1.00 each on my credit card. I took the credit card info off so they don't charge me anymore. How can they charge me yet still not allow me to download free updates and say I have an invalid address? I'm sure I will spend weeks or months trying to get a credit out of these incompetent idiots.

How do I remove padlock icon from all my files?

On one of my drives, every single file has a little padlock icon superimposed over the file icon. I recall when I did a clean install of windows 7 RC over my Vista install, I wasn't getting write access to the drive so I had to take ownership of the drive and mess with the security settings before it started working normally.
I have to admit, I find the security settings in all versions of NT mystifying... For instance, although my account is in the administrators group, having full access to administrators never seems to work. I always have to add my individual user account and explicitly give it full access.
In any case, I can't remember exactly what it took, but after messing around with the security settings for a while, I eventually was able to have full access to the drive and have no problems reading/writing/deleting files and folders, but there's the padlock icon still on everything.
Can anyone explain how to get rid of it, and/or maybe point me to a good, clear, understandable guide on how to properly set NTFS permissions.

If I move documents from 'All My Files' to 'Documents' should they still appear in 'All My Files'? Why are they in both places, that seems like doubling the documents?

Of course. "All my Files" look in all your folders for documents, pictures... and it shows all of them there even if you have them in Documents folder. Don't worry about it

Try a hard reset:- hold the home button AND the power switch - ignore the red "Slide to power off" and wait ubntil the iPhone powers down, and then restarts - at the Apple logo, release all the buttons and see if your contacts reappear.

I did a backup from all my files saved in old external hd to time capsule. After that double checked and recover one file from TC to mac air and it worked just perfect. Today went through TC to recover another file and none of them were there?

You can do that (see below), but how are you going to back them up? If your only copies are on the TC, when (not if) it fails, you risk losing your only copy of the data.

No, but there are some workarounds, including making a fixed-size disk image on it to "reserve" some space. See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.
But you still won't have backups of the stuff you put there.
You don't say what kind of Mac you have. If it's a desktop model, just keep the external HD connected to it, and let Time Machine back it up along with your internal HD.
However, it sounds like you may have a laptop, where that's not going to be convenient. In that case, your best bet might be to copy the external HD to a disk image on the TC as above, then keep the HD in a safe place.
To finish, when i enter the TC and go through the Time line how can I get a file from there and move it back to Mac hd.

Hide a library object from all but selected users

Perhaps I just missed this in the documentation, but is there a way to hide
a library object from all but selected users who will have access to the
docs in that library. I know I can uncheck access rights and assign them
only for selected users who can access the documents, but I would like to
hide the ibrary object as well, best that only those who have access even
know the library exisits in this case. Thanks.

Close all folders in Mail? Color Label folders? Find folder? And More!

Hi all.
I have a LOT of mail. They're all very organized, though. Heaps of Mailboxes (Folders) and Sub-folders.
I also have heaps of rules dutifully sending incoming mail to their appropriate mailboxes.
However...
It has reached a point where one of of the major bottlenecks in my daily workflow is sorting through all these mailboxes.
There are 5 primary mailboxes with perhaps 100-ish subfolders or sub-subfolders. Maybe more.
When they are all open, or a lot of them are open, it is difficult to find the a specific folder when I need it. It would help if I could close all open folder with a shortcut.
Is this possible?
It would also help if I could visually distinguish each level. Can I color label the mailboxes(not the messages themselves)?
Another help would be if I could run a search for a folder Mailbox name. Is this possible?
Lastly when I create a rule I would love it if there was an option to 'Create new Mailbox' in the rule dialog box rather than having to create the mailbox first. Am I just missing this? See link for illustration:

I just had a look and you need to create the mailbox PRIOR to asking the rules to move it into that.
Now, automator lets you create a new workflow, but not sure as to how to set that one up (might be possible; however, my mathematical brain tells what you want to achieve is flawed:
1) IF new mail equals "tangerine", create new mailbox tangerine, then move message to mailbox "tangerine. (FINE so far!)
2) the second "tangerine" message arrives, and the workflow should FAIL (because it cannot create a "new" mailbox "tangerine", as there is ALREADY a mailbox named "tangerine")
3) if automator cannot execute "If" and "and" and the "sort by" all together, then distinguish (a "tangerine" message might actually need to go to "pear" but refers to "pears and tangerines", so it ends up in the wrong mailbox), you may have to start and restart mail, until all stages of the script have been executed.

How can I PRINT folders from FCE project files?

Over five years of underwater videography I have accumulated several TB of footage, organized into FCE project files by ocean locale and further sorted by subject matter in "clips" folders in the project files. I use the "log note" field for descriptions, eg scenery, vertebrates, invertebrates, divers.
I understand the product incompatibilities that make my FCE project files unreadable by other software, and I am also beginning to doubt that I can keep my late 2007 MBP running indefinitely. So I want to generate a hard-copy directory to my media drives by printing out the contents of my "clips" folders. While I still can...

Meg, do you happen to know which versions of FCP will import FCE 3.5 projects? Apparently Adobe Premiere Pro will import FCP projects but not FCE - the format needs to be XML, which FCE does not generate.
There's some old FCP software available from 3rd party sellers but I know there are incompatibilities between versions of FCP & FCE of different ages, and would like to avoid them.
If I can make my projects accessible to another editing program, even if it's a lot of work, I'd be happy to leave FCE behind at this point...

Color label folders are not showing up when I do a "find"

On my iMac 10.3 OS my colored folders show up but in my macbook pro 10.4.11 they do not. The images show up colored if I have put a color to them. I have selected "color label" in the "kind" box when I do a find but that doesn't help. I am REALLY used to making my more important folders a certain color so they are easier to spot when I do a "find". Is there a way to do this on a MacBook Pro 10.4.11 OS ?????????

Why does Pro CC suddenly remove audio from all imported files regardless of format? Was working perfectly before.

This problem happened overnight with no changes to settings, etc. I've tried importing every format available and the audio is removed from all. Thanks for any help...

Okay, then I suspect it's a source patching issue. Make sure that an audio track is selected for source patching.

As to the audio waveform icon, or 'badge,' I'm guessing you have the Project panel in the icon view, in which case the audio badge indicates that the clip has linked audio. I should have been more specific and asked about the icon in the list view. That's where you should see the combo badge for a clip with video and audio.

Creating list of folders from filenames with files organized in subfolders within

Hi all. This is my first post in the Apple Support Community and I really hope that someone can help me as I'm using apple script for the first time.
I have a list of hundreds of items that are each .jpg, .cr2, or .mov. Certain filenames have multiple extensions, ex: Q95A7170.CR2 & Q95A7170.jpg.
I'm looking for an applescript or automator action that will allow me to create a folder out of each filename with 5 subfolders in it
I need the subfolders to be called:
AUDIO
COLOR
METADATA
PICTURE
PROXY
In this instance I need all the .mov, .cr2, and .jpgs to be routed to the PICTURE folder. In later instances I'll need to route .mxf to PICTURE AND .xml .sif & .thm to METADATA.
So for example I have a list of that looks like this
and I want a script that will make it look like this (i did all of this manually: creating the folders, renaming them, and putting the specific files into the picture folder)
(not nearly a fraction of the list -- there are hundreds and hundreds of files)
I've been researching applescripts for hours but the only script that i could make work and was very useful was this one to create the folders out of the names of the files:

Even with this script I had to manually copy all of the duplicate file named .jpgs out of the folder before it would properly run.
Also I've found these scripts but I'm not sure what information to change. Like I said, I don't know much about code at all and I'm finding more research about it is just digging me deeper in a hole that I'm not entirely ready for.
Here are the other two scripts that CLAIM they can do what I'm looking for, but I haven't gotten them to work.

I tried using both of these codes but to no avail.
Overall, this process is incredibly time-consuming and this is the first time I am using apple script so I know almost nothing about code.
Also I don't know if this changes anything, but all of these files are on an external and I'm trying to save them back on this external.
PLEASE HELP! I am a night assistant editor doing very tedious work at 3:00 AM or later and anything that would expedite this process would be so unbelievably appreciated. Please, someone who's more experience with code and who's smarter than I am on this topic, help me! I know there must be a way to automate this process!
Please and so many thank yous! Really, this code would save me 40+ hours of eye-tiring work.

Color swatch lost from client's file

A client submitted an indesign file which she converted from cs7 (pc) so I could open in cs6 (mac). She insists she created a certain color swatch in her palette but when I opened her file, the color was not in the palette.
