Hide / display conditionally export links and export options
Hi all,
Is there a way to hide / display conditionally export links in a dashboard. Also, is there a way to limit the export options to display only Export to Excel, and not all the other options such as pdf, etc.

Difference between Export QT and Export Using QT Conversion?
I am exporting video from FCE4 into iDVD, and can't understand the difference between Export QuickTime Movie and Export Using QuickTime Conversion.
The first is much faster, but the video seems to suffer in quality. Am I missing something?

(and many more ways of making mistakes); and it always recompresses.
Using "Export QuickTime Movie" gives you the option to uncheck
the "Recompress" box, which should produce a better result,
if you're not changing codecs. -
Working with links and exporting to Quicktime
When i create a Quicktime and play it on a Windows PC, it gets confused with internal lnks. I build in some links that refer to another page into the Quicktime file. When i click them on a PC, they start up Explorer instead of going to that page. CAn't seem to figure it out...

the uploading to .mac usually uses a sorenson codec in a .mov container.
That can be watched on PC just when the free Quicktime Player for Windows is installed. does your friends have done that...?
It tells them they're missing some compressor. Downloading the newest version of QT does not help either. newest version for PC or on your Mac's side?
QT7 offers now the brandnew h.264 compression codec... this isn't supported on the Windows side yet (just experimental/beta)... so using the "latest" is maybe the wrong way...
in the iM export dialog you'll find the option ".avi" (PC container + sorenson codec) try that for a mail (big files!) and your friends should see your movie...
and tell them, they shall buy a Mac, hey, c'mon!
you can offer downloads of your project on .mac, but not as convenient as the "upload to" function. ... but that is another cup of tea...... -
Firefox 19 won't display my pdf links and images
I have a pdf uploaded to the site, when opening in Firefox 19, my buttons with hyperlinks don't show up, some images are showing either.
I use simple buttons with rollover stage and a hyperlink, the buttons were made with text and background color, they show fine in pdf when using other browsers and older versions of Firefox.

ThanksThanks for your response, the thing is I don't want the end user to have to go through these steps in order to be able to see my pdf file as it renders in older versions of Firefox.
What I've noticed is the use of buttons and interactivity is not been rendered, so it doesn't even show up in the page. The drop shadows applied within InDesign are also not been properly render by the browser, making the background of the image surrounded by dark background.
I have temporarily fixed the problem by getting rid of my drop shadows and using regular hyperlinks on text instead of interactive buttons.
Hope this issue gets fixed, since interactive pdfs is widely used today.

Firefox crashes every time I do any of the following. Then I have to force quit Fire fox.
If i click a download link on a web page, Firefox freezes the instant I click the link
...but Firefox does not freeze if I click a web link on a web page or page navigation link.
If i go to the Menu bar > Tools > Options, Firefox freezes the instant I select Options from the Tools menu.
...but Firefox does not freeze if select any other item from the Tools menu.
If I go to the Menu bar > File, Firefox instantly freezes the instant I select either "Save Page as..." or "Open file..."
...but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other option from the File menu such as: New Tab, New Window, Send Link, page Setup, Print, Exit etc
If I go the Menu Bar > Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup, Firefox instantly freezes the second I select "Import" or "Export"
... but Firefox does not freeze if I select any other command in the Bookmarks sub menus, nor does it freeze if I back out of the menu entirely.
Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
...so I have isolated the problem to a limited number of commands in Firefox that cause Firefox to freeze... described above. Everything else in Firefox works fine.
HERE IS A SUMMARY OF WHAT CAUSES THE FREEZING:
• Clicking a download link on a webpage
• Going to the Menu Bar > File and selecting "save as" or "Open File"
• Going to the Menu bar > Tools and selecting Options.
• Going to Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks > Import and Backup and selecting either "Import" or "Export"
• Same as above for History if I select "Import" or "Export"
Everything else in Firefox works fine. I went through every menu command and checked for freezes. Only the commands I mentioned above cause the freezing.
I tried the following to try to fix it:
• Reset my modem and router (Problem still exists)
• Uninstalled FF. Deleted folders, profiles (Downloads.sqlite), Registry entries. Reinstalled. (Problem still exists)
• Restarted FF in Firefox safe mode. (Problem still exists)
• Restarted in Windows Safe mode and then started FF in Firefox safe mode (Problem still exists)
• Disabled Window firewall. Disabled ZoneAlarm firewall, Shutdown ZoneAlarm firewall. Set Internel Options to default settings. (Problem still exists)
• I reset the config option: browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone to false
What does work?
• Firefox does not crash when I click a link an go a website, navigate a page, use a menu item command.
• Firefox works fine on my other computer.
• Internet Explorer works fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
• My other applications work fine on the computer that Firefox is having a problem on.
I want to add that, I just overcame the XP Recovery Virus by following a post that suggested running the following software to fix the virus. Everything seems back to normal except Firefox.
The software I ran to fix the problem are listed below:
• malwarebytes
• superantispyware
• ccleaner
• combofix.
• smart defrag
• then load a good anti-virus. (I ran Zone Alarm virus scan)Hi.

Did you ever fix the problem where Firefox freezes or hangs, when clicking a download link or using (File menu) "save as" or "open file"? Or when going to the Firefox (Tools) menu and clicking Options ? Or trying to Import or Export bookmarks?

Jon, how do I re-compress the Snapz data for dvd playback?
That depends on your specific work flow strategy. I normally perform the processing in two stages if editing is involved or in a single stage if I don't plan to trim, title, add a narration track, add special effects, and/or add filters to the Snapz Pro X captured screen data.
In the two-stage process you export the captured data to an intermediate low-compression, high-quality fomat. (This can be the default settings for Snaps Pro X or a more modern editing specific format like ProRes 422/Linear PCM depending on the codec components for which your system is configured and your personal editing preferences.) The Snapz Pro X intermediate file is then edited in the application of your choice and the results are re-compressed to your final target compression format.
In any case, whether you are re-compressing the data using QT 7 Pro, iMovie, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, Snapz Pro X, or similar third-party app that accesses the built-in OS X QT routines, the export process is essentially the same. Whether you use a "Movie to MPEG-4" or "Movie to QT Movie" export, you must export to a data rate limited, multi-pass H.264/AAC compression combination to take advantage of the "Optimize of CD/DVD" option. Specific data rate limits depend on the playback dimensions of the file you are creating, the minimum level of quality you will accept, and the playback speed of the hardware to be used. (I normally target 4X-8X settings for SD content but if you know the recipient has a higher rated optical drive and your content is HD, then you can use higher encode settings for improved quality.)
I captured the slideshow again in Snapz, and saved it as H264/AAC. Is this good enough?
If you did not specifically use the "Optimize for..." feature, then the file is automatically targeted for "Computer" playback which assumes playback is from an hard drive which has greater bandwidth/faster throughput than an optical media player. If the target display dimensions are resonably small, the the contextual nature of the H.264 video encoder may or may not be within the playback limitations of an optical drive usually depending on the encode matrix dimensions, graphic complexity of the source data, overall brightness of the scenes, and limitations you may have place on the target file—i.e., the larger the encoding dimensions, the faster the data date and the less likely the file will be compatible with optical drive playback without having to constantly interrupt playback to cache/rebuffer additional data. However, you can always tell the recipient that if this happens, he or she should simply copy the movie file from the CD/DVD to their hard drive for playback.
What now? Do I open it in Quicktime and use the "share for mac and pc", then right-click on it in the finder and "burn to disc?"
What you do next depends on how you plan to burn the file. The steps explained above allows you to create a file that is compatible with playback from an optical drive in a QT Player app but is not authored for playback from a commercial DVD Player. Your next step is to burn that file to an optical disc that can be read by your recipient's computer. I my case, I normally burn the disc using a hybrid (HFS Plus/ISO 9660) format which supports HFS Plus, ISO-9660, Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge file systems. How you do this is up to you. You can, for instance, use a third-party app like Toast or Dragon Burn to create a data disc; create/burn an image file with your Disk Utility app (this is a good option if you plan to burn several discs now and/or in the future); create a named "Burn" folder, drop the file to it, and press the burn button; or simply insert a blank optical media disc into you optical drive, change the default disc name to whatever you want, drop your file to the blank media's Finder window, and press the "Burn" button. (NOTE: Burn options may differ depending on the software installed on your system and/or the version of OS X under which you may be operating.)
Dont see any specs re playback from an optical disc drive? The slideshow is only 3 min long, and I want to avoid turning it into a video DVD using iDVD, iMovie etc, as the quality of the pictures and type degrades badly. Thanks for the help. Been struggling with this for weeks.
As noted above, this is an encode setting that only becomes active when you are targeting your H.264/AAC encode for multi-pass/data rate limited compression. When active, the "Optimize for..." pop-up allows you to select "computer" (targets playback from a hard drive), "CD/DVD" (targets playback from optical media), or "Streaming" (targets playback from a realtime streaming server) options. This option prevents data rate excursions from exceeding limits normally associated with each of the named types of playback. This option has nothing to do with the file system used to burn the media disc which determines which platforms/OS can read the disc and the file it contains. -
[11g] Edit- and Export links not available
Hi folks,
i noticed the following: If i open an analysis normally, there are links like Edit, Export etc. at the end of the table. If i open it via a Folder on a dashboard, the table shows, but these links are missing. How can i get these in this situation?
I'd like to have the dashboard as an entry point to get to the analysises quickly, but i want to export the data via this quick link?

My question is the following: I want to provide the user with a Dashboard, which contains a Folder with the Analyses, which he needs for his work. From this folder, the user can go directly to the analyse, he wants to view. This works fine, but the analyse doesn't have the Export link, so if the user decides, he wants to export the data, he has to find the analyse in the catalog and to open it from the catalog, because by opening the analyse from the folder view, the links are missing.
So my question is: Can i change the viewing options of the folder view or the analyse, so that the Export link is shown, or is this a bug, or ???

Help! I can't save to disc OR backup my iTunes Library! iTunes support instructions are to simply select 'File', then 'Library', then select 'Back Up to Disc', but when I try to the only options that appear are 'Organize Library...', 'Export Library...' then below those are 'Import Playlist...' and 'Export Playlist...' (which appears in the list, but I cannot select). No option to save my library appears at all. Just those four. I've had no problems syncing, playing, adding or purchasing with my account and my iTunes version is up to date. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and what I should do so I can save my library?

I go to file and export then a window appears with file export, webpage,quicktime and slideshow. On my mini I have shutterfly as an option and don't remember how to do it. What do I do to input this info so that shutterfly becomes an option

Are your photos in iPhoto or are you using some other Photo Software?
The latest version of iPhoto is a lot different than iPhoto 6 for example. In iPhoto 06 you could burn the Originals from your User Picture Folder using Finder, while in iPhoto 11 it is best to burn them from within the iPhoto Application.
Open iPhoto and select the Event(s) that you want to burn onto the CD, then select Share on the menu bar and click Burn in the drop down.

Bridge cs6 export - only hard drive option is present. I want ftp and social network module
I want to export my images right from the bridge. Uploading them to different social sites and ftps is a bit of a hassle and it is easy to forget something in the process. It would be so much better if I could just drag files to desired locations/presets.
I've seen something like that in the blogs (but with lower version of CS) where people have facebook and other options. But I can see only hard drive module.
Is it possible? If so - why don't I have this option? What can I do?If you don’t see the four modules, click the flyout menu and choose “Manage Modules.”
Make sure all four are checked. If you don’t see the four listed, click the little gear, and from ITS flyout menu, choose “Check for Updates.” When you’re through, click the small “Done” button at the bottom to return to the Export Panel main window.
You can start using the export modules directly, but every time you use them you’ll have to go through a long export process. Use presets to streamline this operation, by saving all the work for re-use. You can create multiple presets; for example, you might have several presets for Facebook depending on whether you want to send the images to your wall, or a specific album. We’ll step through the Facebook setup first.
In the Export Panel, highlight “Facebook” and click on the “+” icon at the bottom to Add a new Preset.
The “Add Preset” dialog appears, and the first thing you will need to do is authenticate with Facebook. Note that you will need to authenticate every time you create a new preset, even with the same service, but you won’t need to authenticate when you actually export your images. Click on “Sign In.”
Two things happen: Your browser will be launched, and you’ll see the authentication page from Facebook. You’ll need to enter your credentials, and you can check “Keep me logged in to Adobe Bridge Export Panel.”

HELP! Exporting pdf issues - no email links and gray boxes around text
I'm a newbie to indesign, and trying to learn the program as I go. I need to export my pdf for onscreen viewing. When I "print" it works, but I get no email links, and those annoying white lines here and there. I read that exporting would solve the email link issue, but it opened another can of worms for my project. Now all my graphics have black or gray boxes across them, almost like censor boxes. But my email links work.
Learning Adobe is like learning a new language, and I have far from mastered it. So when I exported, I used the lowest resolution presets, assuming it knew what worked better than I did. After dozens of unsuccessful exports, can someone please help??
Also, I've been reading posts that say to convert all spots to color to resolve the white line issue. But it's grayed out in the ink manager. What is the secret to unlock it?

I have CS5.5, running on windows 7. It is up to date as of 1 month ago. Here's a sample of my problem pages. Also, a screen shot of what it should look like. My guess is it has something to do with the transparencies, since it's 2+ layers of embossed objects. If I export in Acrobat 4 (1.3) these boxes don't happen. But then I get the thin white lines across my graphics, and no email links. As for spot colors, I confess complete ignorance on all color issues, but I'm trying to learn as I go. How can I export this correctly? -
I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?
Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.
